I mention that it's necessary to set the hook timing prior to the feed timing and that's technically not true. The feed and hook timings are related to the needle bar position, therefore the feed timing can be set prior to hook timing.
I appreciate this. Lots of these get thrown away because it seems impossible to fix. This is a solution. How Singer could go from my 401A, the best they ever made and all metal, honed gears to...these... in only a few years is tragic.
I read it was a cost cutting decision, however, how much they were saving would seem to have been very little, but the one given to me worked for fifty years and the original owner thought it did not owe her anything, but she did not want to spend $250 for new gears but would have if the fix it guy had attended to business.
Thank you so much for these videos. I can't tell you enough how helpful they are. I have a singer 750 that I am playing around with. I have successfully changed the gears however, the timing belt is frayed. I have removed the belt and purchased another one. Now I have to figure out how to put the new belt on. Please, can you do a video or give me tips on how to do this. Seems that there no videos to be found on this problem. Thanks so much for your help.
Interest in replacing gears in a Singer 457 sewing machine to return it back to working again. I was given the machine to take a look at its internal parts. The owner who gave it to me had had it at a professional fix-it shop for 6 months and the owner had not time to get around to repairing it. The estimate for replacing the faulty gear was $250 She decided to purchase a new machine. Am going to be ordering the gears and give it a try. This video was very helpful
Perkenalkan, saya Sukarman, Singer sewing machine mechanic from Indonesia. I have been working in singer company in Indonesia since 1977 until now. I can solve almost all problem of sewing machine especially singer.. not only replace broken gears, but I am able to repair broken gears.
Great video. I've just been given a Singer 427 unfortunately the shaft which connects to the bobbin is not meeting the cog at the top, how I get to it I have no idea, I can see that it's physically not meeting the vertical cog though
U explain it to good and I was wondering if the gear has sizes mine is singer sewing machine millennium what size do u think is the gears of my sewing machine do they have a universal gears.
Thank you for all your videos. I am enjoying them very much. I am wondering when plastic gears were introduced? The machine in this video looks quite early.
I have a Polish-made 834, and that has imperial size socket heads also. Maybe because the gears were supplied from Singer in the US? (other parts have metric threads).
At 23.39 of the video you can see a plastic tail on the feed gear. My new replacement part has that also. This appears to be causing a bind in the machine. Any suggestions as to what to check or should it be removed? Is it there for a purpose?
Salom. Men singer1425 oldim, u ishlatilgan. Lekin, ip o'raydidigan noychalari singan ekan. Ulardan topiladimi? Hozirgi mashinkalarni noychasiga o'xshamaydi? Yana uni orqaga qanday yurg'izishni bilolmadim. Javobingiz uchun oldindan rahmat.
i have a singer 513 in front of me with disintegrated freed dog gears. I have new gears to install . But I have one screw that refuses to budge. I have tried everything the internet suggested. What kind of shop should I take it to to remove it. I can do the rest. I'm in canada so I don't have access to BlueCreeper penetrating oil which is the only option I have left. can you give me any help
Thank you very much for this video. I have a 543 with much less space inside and only a tiny amount of slack on the wire to the motor. Do you know how I can move the switch out of the way on this model to make room for the long gear shaft to slide out? (ref time 7:30)
Thanks. You'll need to remove the two screws holding the switch block in. Then you'll need to remove the white panel attached to the back of the switch block. It's tight but it can be done. You can then wiggle the switch block down. Be sure to note where the wires are.
Who was the bright engineer who thought plastic gears would be a good idea??! Ayiyiyi! Got a 514 with broken gear there and it was replaced 15 years ago and already broke again

Hi. As far as I know they were introduced in around the 1960's. Thanks.

Thank you very helpful. I wonder how much it would cost to get this job done at a sewing machine company with a tech? Gears included Thanks again
Hi. The gears are relatively inexpensive and the whole job takes around 30-60 minutes. Thanks.
@@InStitches Thank you for your quick reply Have fun with your machines :-)

Can anyone tell me what is the name of the screwdriver he is using at 9:47 in replacing the gears.
3/23 Allen key maybe goes by Allen Wrench where you live. They can be purchased at a hardware ( many sizes grouped together)
