and not just new truckers, old truckers (like all long term professionals) have a tendency to get complacent at times and forget or overlook things that they should and do know.
I'm not a trucker, but I recognise that in myself and try to guard against it, but I know I sometimes slip up as does everyone.
Saw another video showing that such things aren't always even deliberate lately. Truck was overheight, not because they deliberately overloaded it but because the tarp covering the top had come loose while driving and was flapping, load started shifting slightly and piled up a bit.
Driver didn't notice until he passed an overheight detector on the approach to a tunnel, stopped and the police pulled up (which is standard practice here).
I think he got an escort to a safe parking spot, fixed the problem, and went on his way. He might also have been fined, not sure, guess it'd depend on whether the cops had met their quota for fines for the month yet.

I picked the scattered mess up and returned to my truck. Nope. I hadn’t broken any laws or been rude. The lady said my logbook should be “open to the current day” when I hand it to her. This needs to be a part of the curriculum in training schools since they are mandated now for new CDL drivers.
With my relatively vast spread of experience with auto and truck repair/maintainence and currently in my last days in CDL training, I see a lot of people they have absolutely no clue as to why they’re doing a pre-trip other than just to memorize enough to get through and pass a CDL Exam, even after the week of in-class education. They have no idea to ACTUALLY LOOK OVER the truck and trailer to identify potentials for catastrophe in the other vital systems or how to interpret the gauges in the instrument cluster. They’re not getting taught the safety aspect or as to why each component does what it does and what function it serves and how important that function is when you’re hauling multiple thousands of pounds of weight, keeping it under control, operational, at the proper temperatures, proper levels, and hermetic. There simply is no time to condense all of that relevant matter into the curriculum.
I really believe it should be mandatory elementary education for ALL drivers when they recieve class C training (automobile) considering the equipment being ran by all of us on the road is DEADLY. But thats my $.10.
I advise everyone who wishes to become a truck driver or to hold a (drivers license) CDL, to educate yourself on how these vehicles work, all of the integral parts and their functions, and how they relate to the truck far before you put yourself into the mix of Training. I feel then and only then would you get the true benefit of what the instructors have to offer you, and will give you a great benefit in an advantage in your studies. Trust me the whole time you were there you had better be studying your ass off during class and when you get home. Plan on it and you will be planning for success.
Especially if you’re coming out of pocket, not everybody who gets in a truck in training school gets a CDL remember that!!!!
Work HARD on it, and you will succeed!
Good luck out there! Be safe!

He just doing his job and seems to me he is a honest cop. Thats what i like about him he points out what needs to be done with the driver. Its common knowledge to check your truck every weekend to make sure u have every thing in place. If u spend 3 hours looking at football games u could spend at least an hour to make sure your breaks or in place and check for leaks. The thing about a pre trip it gives u a list of what the DOT checks and all u have to do is check off on the list. Its not rocket science people, all u have to do is take out some time and put some work in your truck. You do that and it will go well with you and u will be on your way to your destination. A lot of people say its about the money but looking at the news they need officers to keep people in check because i seen some trucks that i would have put out of service if i was an officer. I dont blame them for being out here doing there job. If u are doing your part then u dont have to worry about the blitzzzzz.

I’ve never been a fan of DOT . But the things I’ve been seeing on the road I understand. It’s good to see the Point of view of the other side. If truck drivers can be on RUclips reporting the bad DOT then the DOT Should do the same with lazy truck drivers! DOT / State troopers some state is different

So basically he checks everything a new trucker has to identify in there pre trip before moving onto the backing and then drive test.

Now this guy was not an asshole. I know we need a check system for safety, i get that. The rub is getting the company and customers to fully cooperate that when repairs are needed and delays are created, not to kill the drivers for it. Correct when we say " yeah but their are companies and drivers that refuse to pay for repairs." Thats true. I believe the punishment needs to be applied to the real cause of the problem. Be the companies or drivers. That being said, do drivers carrers need to be destroyed?

Respect to the DOT for educating the driver's doing his job honestly. Mack Colorado Port of entry got me for 5 warped fifth wheel bolts on rails. There's 12 to 15 and a small section in the FMCSR that says it's a out of service event after they do a math equation. The small scale inspection lady that sounded like a drill Sargent put me on a conditional out of service so I could go to her cousin at the Peterbilt dealership next to the Ambest to repair. We learn something new every day and I have mad respect for the DOT officer you featured.

Pre trip and post trip inspections is a must. Keeping a DVIR up to date and also keeping your ELD up to date are always first priority.

Only once had to restrap a lumber load I had received during a steady rain...just threw an extra strap through middle of center to match how I had it on the front and back...tighten tarp...back on the road again. Oh, and I also had to spread my tandems apart after coming from BC where spread tandems are not permitted.

The reason your subs are scared to death about this blitz is plain and simple.......
    THEY DON'T PRETRIP, POST-TRIP‼️
Everynight while I am preparing for my day, including pre trip, I see drivers stirring around in their truck getting dressed what have ya. Then they start the truck and leave. MANY drivers don't pre-trip‼️‼️‼️
Do your shit and do it right there is nothing to worry about. Been stopped twice. Both time, in & out with an "atta boy" once and a "good job driver" the second. Its a cake walk if you do what you're suppose to do.

If that trailer is RATED FOR 10,400 LBS you have to have a class A CDL. Doesn't matter is you are towing it with a 1500 or F150 or if it empty. It goes by what it could potentially haul, . I took my pre trip and diving test with am 05 F-550 flat bed with an 18ft bumper pull and got my class A. I had to go back and get my air brake endorsements but i did have a class A non airbrakes license...
