Hello everyone. My son is a former employee of Western Express. Yesterday, he received a letter about the litigation and it is true, the amount is $50.00, but the gag is this: it cost $16+ for the taxes, and $16+ for the filing of the paperwork and the grand total is less than $20!! He said," Mom its not worth it." Its pitiful. Also, my son has a tee shirt from your show so shout to you and all that you do for ALL truckers out here in the world. SALUTE😊

Heck, every trucking company pays their company drivers under minimum wage if you figure the hours worked and money earned. When I drove it turned out to be around $5.50 hr.

some local stuff that pays straight hourly, like food service, is okish. I work just down the road from Western Express and got paid $27.13/hr for two weeks of orientation (they redesigned orientation and made me and the other person hired at the same time as me take orientation again. It was identical, just on a different app. Lol)
But food service sucks!

Pam transport had a similar lawsuit i got close to 4000 backpay
So the orientation for W.E. is 2.5 days long, and its full room and board with fully provided transportation. The thing that IS a major issue is people who have to go on a training truck dont always get onto a truck in a timely manner, and while you get room and board, you dont get paid until you get on a truck. They have made pretty significant changes though in the last few years towards bettering the company operations and standards, to include going through and weeding out the individuals who are problematic or unsafe.
Yeah it's like 2 and a half to 3 days. You get a room to share with another driver and breakfast bars for breakfast, pizza for lunch and a sandwich for dinner for the first 3 to 5 days. I was stuck waiting for a "trainer" for pretty much 2 weeks. The second week they didn't give you anything to eat because "you finished your orientation".
The company makes Swift look like a dream driving job!!

I just received that email yesterday. They are settling because they don't want to have to pay more. It's 50 bucks minus like 16 dollars and change for the lawyers. It says it will come in 2 checks. The first check will have taxes taken out from it and the second check will not.

I've worked for Western Express for 3 yrs and no I didn't get paid for orientation. I was told that by the recruiter, which is why I chose to come to Western. Believe it or not my recruiter didn't lie to me. Western drivers are some of the biggest cry babies that want to make millions, but don't want to work for it. They lie to give a reason for crying. The drivers are what kills this company. I've been treated very well by Western for the past 3 yrs which is why I'm still here. I have a clean mvr and clean criminal record just to point that out. I don't wear flip flops or pajamas either

That's because they lie and say they are paying by the mile, when they are actually paying by the hour. So to make sure you are getting paid at western you need to stay on duty and never try to save your clock.

I started orientation with Western at Richmond in May 2023 and left April this year. Funny that I got the email in my spam folder lol. I got paid for the week of orientation and started training the very next week. I am appreciative of them for taking me in with no questions asked fresh out of cdl school. Driving flatbed at western certainly has been an experience
This reminds me, I just had a convo with Knight and what I understood, was that you're supposed to spend a whole Monday & Tuesday (8am-5pm), UNPAID at a "pre-qualification", which includes orientation-type activities (hair follicle test, etc.,) BEFORE they even consider you. If you make it through all of their unpaid hoops in those 2 days & join them, THEN they throw you a few pennies as an employee. Perhaps some Knight folks can verify or clarify.

Actually it’s $50 per day in orientation minus $16 something dollars for attorney fees so you’re actually getting $33 (orientation can last 1 to 30 days)

I did get this email and they owe me $1000 plus in reimbursements and let me go on poor work performance because I went to their former hr. I still need to appeal on getting reimbursements and the fact they said I had safety incidents.
I worked for Western Express for 3 years and it wasn’t that bad. It was back in 2006 when i was coming off of active duty. I learned a lot back then but I also learned that being known only by my driver number wasn’t for me

Western xpress make me sing a contract saying if I quite before 6 month I have to pay $2500, I drove to the orientation 2 day, I didn’t use hotel, I drove 2 days for wester express, when I realized the training time mean I drive 10 hours and the trainer sleep in the back, basically team partners, drive 10 for $91 a day was crazy!! I left they send a collection agency to colect the $2500! That company is the worst of the worst! NO ONE MENTIONED THAT CONTACT BEFORE OR DURING ORIENTATION.

Should be a law to pay employees at least minimum wage for that particular state you have orientation in. Why isn’t it a law anyways? Why do they allow companies to pay truck drivers anything less? Same with detention pay. Should be a law.
