      If drivers are forced to ahear these regulations the selection of food needs to be regulated at truckstops. The push to give truckers better more affordable options rather then fast food should be included in this rule making. Drivers are forced to comply with rules. We are small businesses. The fact that truckstops are part of the supply chain and this is all part of the supply chain should be the considering factor. Truth in trucking.

      Some are like brand new, clean, wide open, healthy options, and others are like dumps, old, and forgotten. Some are like the one on I-10 Eastbound near Blithe, where you see a sign for a truckstop that says 5 miles ahead, then in a seemingly shorter time you hit an exit with a sign that says, "Truck Stop." It's way under par but they offer massages there. Then, get back on the freeway for another two minutes and there's this humongous one with a deli, Some produce, Subway, and other good food.

    I went to do my physical a few months ago. It was 156/92 in the examiners office. Bought myself a blood pressure monitor and started taking tests every day 4 times a day and i average around 130/85. I don't think it's fair that they go off of one test. If it's high in the office they should let you record your tests in your every day life and report those numbers. Some people get stressed just thinking they might lose their liveyhood.

    • @philsmidwestclassiccars150
      @philsmidwestclassiccars150 3 месяца назад +12

      Thats just it driver, it doesn't make a difference. The blood pressure tester in the Exam room must be certified & current. You can check your blood pressure with 5 different certified blood testing units & you will see 5 different results. All the testers were certified & current. Flip the coin or draw the short straw, either way somebody's fixing to get screwed.

If you revert back to sleeping on your back try something to prevent that like a back pack pillow worn during sleep or sleeping up against a wall or anything that will keep you sleeping on your side. One important fact that caught me off guard, and might save someone a lot of heartache. I am 65 years old, and
    my blood pressure has always been below 130. 2 years ago, I had a tooth that was acting up. It formed an abscess up in the gums, and I needed a root canal. Before that could be done, the infection had to be cleared away, so I was put on Amoxicillin for the infection, and 800mg ibuprofen (twice a day) for pain.
    It took about a week to clear up the infection, and during that time I went to get my every-2-years DOT physical.
    I flunked it because my BP was 177/110.
    I did some checking and found out large doses of Ibuprofen will spike your blood pressure.
    I stopped taking it, and two days later my BP was back to 122/72.
    So if you are close to taking your CDL, DO NOT TAKE IBUPROFEN.

    American Disability Act should be all over this. If the blood pressure is clinically managed during the DOT physical, great.
    We all know blood pressure rises and lowers to stress and there is a lot of it on the road with many variables playing the cause.
    I would like to know what percentage of high blood pressure drivers are a liability and how FMCSA came this scientific conclusion?

    • @michaelhatico7526
      @michaelhatico7526 3 месяца назад +4

      Fact-Checked
      In its recently concluded term, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down four decisions examining whether employees with various impairments were covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In three cases, the Court decided that the law generally does not protect people with impairments that can be easily corrected, such as poor eyesight or high blood pressure. According to the Court, the employees in those cases were not substantially limited in any major life activities, and their employers did not regard them as having substantial limitations. In the fourth case, the Court decided that a worker who applies for disability benefits may still be a qualified individual with a disability protected by the ADA.
      The ADA prohibits employers from discriminating against a "qualified individual with a disability." A "disability" is defined as an impairment that substantially limits an individual in one or more major life activities - such as walking, lifting, talking, seeing, and breathing, among others. A "qualified individual" is one who can perform the essential functions of a job with reasonable accommodation. The ADA also protects workers who are erroneously "regarded as" being disabled. The new Supreme Court decisions will help employers answer the threshold question in dealing with an applicant or employee with a physical or mental impairment - is the person protected by the ADA?

    • @michaelhatico7526
      @michaelhatico7526 3 месяца назад +5

      In short, if the issue can be corrected it is not covered by the ADA per the Supreme Court.
      Furthermore High Blood Pressure can cause temporary blindness which is as bad as seizures by the FMCSA as loss of control of a vehicle.

    How it going Alex,
    This is not new to me I've been seeing my doctor for 30 years for physical , That's right same doctor , I do not bounce all over the country trying to get a Medical card , and I was wondering does my doctor have to turn this into them or do we have to join them like the Clearing house So they can keep an eye on us ????
    My question is what are they going to do about all these overweight drivers, Matter of fact , I have seen 2 of them today they are so heavy , and overweight they have to stop every 10 feet, and then they bend over leaning on something to catch their breath to get another 10 or 15 feet to get to their damn truck , I do not know who is given them a medical card to get behind the Steering whee , l Knock on wood for only being 190 pounds this weight pretty much my whole life , Where I live I have been noticing some companies they will not hire you if you weigh over 210 pounds , In a way that's a good thing I think , and they are cracking down on your age , If you are over 40 they do not want nothing to do with you , they will tell you nothing against you but you are too old to drive for the company , It is all about the insurance companies , They are the ones to let the company know to put somebody in a truck , I think they are the ones pushing all of this

    Thank you for the video. Just getting back in to owning a personal use big rig and was not aware of any changes to the medical exam pertaining to med cards. What doesn't help matters much when it comes to med cards is how the feds made states tie a CDL holder's CDL endorsement to their med cards. I worked fleet maintenance in Alaska so I had a CDL as I needed to test drive the trucks when working on them (just never worked as an OTR driver). When I left that industry I kept the CDL as I was also in to antique semi trucks. Alaska only exempted trucks registered as RV's from needing a CDL, there was no personal use exemption for regular trucks over 26k pounds when it came to licensing requirements in Alaska. I was able to drop the med card though as that was covered by a different state statute and that statute gave an exemption for all trucks that were not used in commerce, regardless of GVWR. In 2009 the Air Force transferred us from Alaska to Florida and I decided to take my 1974 International 4300 Transtar with us. Everything was going smoothly till we got in to Washington state and hit a weigh scale just north of Seattle. The Washington CLEO I was dealing with was telling me I had to have a med card too. So I showed them the Alaskan state statute (I brought a copy with me just in case) that showed I didn't need one as I was not in commerce. They replied with "we don't care what state you're licensed in as the state of Washington requires med cards, therefor you must have one or get a ticket". Fortunately I got a med card before leaving Alaska just in case I ran in to this level of stupidity as this wasn't the first time I drove an antique semi truck cross country on a military move. 🙂 Anyhow, after we got to Florida I had to transfer my CDL over as Florida only exempted personal use cargo trucks from needing a CDL. In Florida if it's a semi tractor with a fifth wheel, a minimum Class B license was needed if the GVWR was over 26k pounds. Even if it was an antique. While there are exemptions from the med card when you go to the DL office, there is not an option in Florida that say "not for hire, personal use only". Florida treats it like you must be commercial if you have a CDL, even though the state requires a CDL for certain non-commercial vehicle use. 😞 A couple of years after we moved to Florida, base housing for the base we were at rewrote the rules for parking and made my International illegal to park at my base housing unit. So I had to sell it off. Last month I bought a 1971 M818 6x6 5 ton semi tractor to restore and take to vehicle shows now that we are no longer living on base. This week I will be reaching out to the DOT people to confirm that I only need a US or state level DOT number if I'm in commerce. I checked in to this over ten years ago and some Florida CLEO's said I needed at least an FL DOT number, even for personal use. I did have a couple of Florida CLEO's say I was exempt if I wasn't in commerce but I never got it in writing. Now I need to track down the Florida statute that covers DOT number requirements and find out whether I need a DOT number or not when I'm not for hire.

But also fast before test day and taking beet root helps!

    Very important to make sure that your ME is taking your BP properly. You have to make sure they're getting the resting bp. You don't want to let them take it immediately after doing any physical stress, and/or flexibility tests. In any case, if it reads too high at first, make sure they have the proper resting rate by allowing you opportunity to lay, or sit still for a few, then retake. I had one walk-in clinic ME that had her nurse take my BP which passed. Then ME came in, had me do the strength and flexibility stuff, then insisted that she retake BP immediately. Turned out to be the only physical I've ever failed. Week later, retook it with a long time family practice doctor that knew what they were doing, and passed with room to spare. (There was a nearly 10 point difference in BP tests between the two docs!)

    In short, yall need to start taking better care of your health. Stop eating all that damn cinnabon and drinking all that soda. The phrase "no load is worth your life" means more than not driving when the roads are bad. It means to take care of your health as well. And stop all that damn cigarette inhalation too. Its 2024. Those smoldering stink sticks should have been played out by now. Just because youre bored doesn't mean you have to snack all the damn time. And clean your damn cabs too. This is probably good. My husband and I drove team until he had a stroke while driving. He had untreated high blood preassure for years. It forced him off the road, reduced his mobility and speech. He was forced to take it seriously and take his medication, which he had all along. I really wished this had been in place to force him to take care of himself before he caused so much injury to his body. My nagging wasn't enough. We were very lucky that he was able to steer to the shoulder and wake me to call an ambulance. I drive solo now, and he has home health care to help him move from his bed. There is no shame in taking care with ourselves and those around us.

    I drove for twenty years with no issues. Went to renew my med card BP was 140/90. Examiner would only issue card for one year instead of two
    Still paid full price for one year instead of two. You also omitted the part of hearing test, which is you stand with your back turned to examiner who is standing a minimum of 10 feet behind and whispers ever so softly and your supposed to unde restand clearly what was said. I quickly figured out with the government regs,insurance companies, medical assoc, and pharma company it's all a racket to penalize drivers. I gave up my CDL and refuse to play their game.

    They really need to address issues that can temporarily raise blood pressure for healthy people while taking the physical, before disqualifing drivers. Things like a full bladder, carrying on a conversation, wrong cuff size, etc.
    They should also have to follow the protocol for diagnosing hypertension that medical professionals are supposed to use, multiple readings at different times of day, or work with your primary care provider. Not only is this not fair, but it not medically sound.

    Dont have to worry about D.O.T physicals any more, retired now. What got me was, that every place I went for physical, did it different. Some checked everything, and would take an hour-- others were short,did not check everything. Knew a guy that had his family doctor give him a D O.T., --- all the doc asked was how he was feeling, and gave him a 2 year card. I thought that these physicals were all supposed to be the same, no matter where you took it.

    In the state of Pennsylvania in order to maintain your class 3 State Inspection License you must have the corresponding license classification

    Blood Pressure is subjective to some degree. Reason being depending on the machine and person giving the test it can vary greatly. I am in recovery from major health issues none of which tho effected my ability to actually operate a CMV however one thing I noticed is how my BP was recorded. It depended on the cuff mainly and if it was too small since I am a big dude. The cuff if it was too small would put 20 points on my pressure and they would use a larger cuff and boom it was normal. If you have a high reading request them to use a larger cuff cuz it will make a huge difference.
