Just bought a 63 plate CBR 600 F with only 1k on it. Fan bloody tastic! However, I don’t agree this is only for starters, I’ve been riding for a while and ride a blood bike and this is all I need and want so don’t be put off I’d say. Give one a go and you, like me I’m sure will be blown away.

I too hate the horn. You have to hit 8000 rpm for the fun to start. Below that the bike is incredibly mellow and quiet. Above that it's fast and sounds great. I downshifted too far the other day to 1st, revs above 10k and wheelied into 2nd. The power is there. The clutch is incredibly forgiving. I agree with the review. It's a very good starter bike with no compromises. The manual throttle will keep you out of trouble. The gauges and brakes are top-notch. It's also a beautiful bike. I genuinely love the bike.
If you want OMG fast get a used R6. It's the most comfortable in its class. It is never mellow. Not ever.
also 4k for me to insure but TBH its my dream bike and even if moving from the R125 to R6 is a bit extreme so be it. Was tempted for the CBR tho really was looks great and is actually comfortable
R6 the most comfortable? Has the highest seat and lowest bars. And it does 0 to 60 the same as this one only real difference is that it has a higher top speed but beyond that it doesn’t wheelie or pull out of 90% of turns any faster
Just change the front sprocket to a 1 size smaller one and you got way more power down low.
With some mods it will be a great bike.

Meanwhile next steep for higher cost is over 399cc as "luxury" motorcycle in the sense of over necessary big and powerfull, like for family economical status (for tax/refunds/fees cuting) motorcycle under 500cc are not considered :D
Sweet ride! While it doesn't have a boatload of torque, ~94 horsepower seems like a lot for a 650! I'm guessing that it's the lower torque numbers that make it good for beginners/A2 licensed drivers. Good info re; with a 30" inseam, one can be flat footed on it given an almost 32" published seat height.
As an aside - I think the A2 requirement is a great idea. In the states, one can take a written test, without ever having ridden a bike before, and then hop on any bike of their choice. Not a great idea!
We have two full motorcycle licences.. the A2 licence restricts 19 year olds to 45hp for two years, hence why being able to restrict these bikes is important for new riders. As soon as they have been riding two years they can then de-restrict them and ride them full power. For the over twenty one year olds they can ride anything straight away after completing a full motorcycle test. 17 to 19 year olds can only ride 125cc bikes maximum

Ride a derestricted cbr650r in Australia and heat is not noticeable even in summer.
As an American the concept of paying a dealer....to restrict the bike to be less powerful.......absolutely non sense.

If I change the restriction engine to 35kw can affect on fuel consumption? Who much is fuel consumption in 100km? As I know in normal engine is 20.4km/L .

Ahh, the good old Honda horn beep. I do this at least one a week on my VFR1200F. If I had to personally choose, I think I would take the CB650R over the CBR version of this bike. Better looks, less serious, and it just suits the engines attitude better.

You can feel it's not the same as early Honda's... 93hp compared to the 600RR 115hp claimed back in 2003, it's cheap yes and definitely aimed at the new rider market.
Mid 50`s guy here, thought I better get around to passing bike test before I was too old! Passed in March and went and bought this bike straight away and agree with everything in Kaisers review, got away with a few rider errors that would have probably seen me in a brick wall if I had gone straight to a litre so within reason this bike will forgive you [up to a point]. Really struggled to find someone to insure me but finally got fully comp for £700 but hopefully the hit will get a little lighter every year. Gradually adding mods [tint screen, seat cowl and eventually Akro exhaust].
Nice one.. welcome to the biking community. Good choice of first bike.. that litre "sports" class is in a different world especially with the current crop of 200hp missiles... The retro 1200cc bikes might be a good next bike, such as BMWs R9t or Triumphs speed twin. All the torque but sensible BHP.

I love this bike and I want to get it but I’m 6.3ft and I’m scared will be to small for me maybe. I have to choose between cbr500r 2020 and this one. To bad I live in EU and have the money for my dream bike s1000rr and can’t buy it until 24😭😭.
Years of development have made bikes smaller and lighter.. perhaps find an early really tidy CBR 600RR.. they feel bigger and if I'm really honest they are better built... then when you get to 24 sell the Honda, if you buy the right one you'll probably sell it for more money than you paid for it and get the S1000RR, which I'll add is an incredible machine!
Right now I have a Gsxr600 but it’s tiring for everyday. I don’t use all the power anyways but I just want a more comfortable bike that’s cool as well. The only concern I have is whether the 650 is too much of a compromise on power in comparison to a 110bhp supersports?

Alex Duey that sounds awesome thanks for the info. I went to the showroom to try and the 650 was sold out even the demo bike was sold so I ended up testing the cbr1000rr instead.

Alex Duey surprisingly it felt very similar to my gixxer. yes it was smooth, definitely lighter to turn, more power (duh), better brakes, more comfy than my 2008 gixxer but not as comfy as bmw s1000rr standards though, that level of suspension is out of this world.

No.. performance you can start carefully and ride safely but you need to understand the way a bike steers at speed, it is completely different and you need to be ready to understand the gyroscopic affects. It's why big bikes lean and you do not steer around bends. It catches new riders out all the time. Search motorcycle counter steering, It's a pro method we all use but new riders don't know about it. It's easy to crash a big bike steering in the direction you want to go. Doesn't make sense but trust me. I recommend starting on something smaller learn how to ride at speed then move up. Remember, Counter steering, learn and understand that and you'll be the next Marc Marquez.
I know about many of those facts due to knowing peaple that have driven bikes for over 20 years and riding with them. Though I have of course never driven one myself. But here in switzerland I need to drive the bike on 35kw anyways due to the regulations and I would take lessons and of course the mandatory courses as well. Considering that but not wanting to contradict you, would you consider it? I am aware that it probably would be a better idea to start smaller, so only out of interest.

It's really hard for me to say because everyone is different, I for example took to big bikes very quickly but I have a friend who crashed less than a week of ownership because he didn't make a corner for exactly the reason I said earlier.. personally, (not many agree with me) I think you can ride any bike out there but you must keep a sensible head. This bike is a good all round starter bike. You will hate 35kw within a week but unfortunately it's something you have to go through. Listen to the people with experience you know, buy the bike you want and enjoy.

Hate the restriction laws, if I had this bike on a A2 I just woudnt get it restricted, the amount of other bikers out there on machines over 45hp on a a2 licence is crazy

It does depend on the individual Hunter, I've discovered people aren't as sensible these days judging by some of the comments I've had.. this is what I started on 30 years ago and these days you have all the traction control and ABS plus it can be restricted to 45 hp by your local dealer if you have that god awful A2 license, so yeah I'd recommend it. Just give yourself time to learn to ride a bike properly. 600's in my opinion are the perfect starter bike, nothing will prepare you better for when you want to move up to a 1000cc hyper bike, you'll be grateful you learned the respect and gained the experience on 600 before you ever throw a leg over a BMW S1000rr.. because those things are mental fast 😉

You realize that multiplying the gear ratio (which you can look up based on the gear indicated) by a couple constants and the RPM will get you the bike's speed. Unless you can do the math in your head while you're riding the only person who doesn't know how fast you are going is you (ie. the rider).
This bike is a lot cheaper in Australia. Almost £1000 cheaper. I am surprised.

I’m fifty; 6’ 235 lbs, haven’t ridden in twenty years; have tons of minor medical problems that cause pains in shoulders, knees, hips, and back; want to get a bike again... do you think in the 650 class I should be going for this the CB or something else???

Tricky to answer Rick.. so many good bikes these days, and so many different classes.. I don't think this bike is what you're looking for personally, I definitely think something sit up like BMWs brand new F900XR, perhaps the Yamaha MT09.. I'm afraid the 600/650 market isn't as fun as it was twenty years ago, it's been strangled by emission rules.. the 900cc parallel twin market is growing because that's the new fun zone... but then again most big capacity machines have ride modes on them now.. you can buy a Honda CB1000R or Yamahas MT10 or even KTMs mental 1290 super Duke R, put the electronics in rain mode and ride around like that until you get used to it's performance, then whack it in normal or sports mode and it'll be like riding a completely new machine.. be sure to test ride a few before you decide, good luck finding the one 👍
This bike is alot faster then you think it’s so smooth your over a 100 mph before you realize it when you give it the beens tops out around 150 mph look it up.Not thinking it’s a good first bike

Why do people keep comparing this to the cbr600 and other 600s instead of the cbr650f which is what it's replacing. It's not a 600 supersport 🙄 just a normal sport bike
I don't think I did compare it to the CBR6 I just said I've ridden them all from the 80's.. anyway it's model evolution it started with the 600 and now we have the 650 same line. If I did compare them I'd say buy an old CBR600 115hp compared to this 94hp and they had better build quality 🙄

It's a little viby above 6000 but nothing bad or annoying and mine doesn't have issues with getting hot
@wobz I've ridden it in 90+ degree weather and didn't feel like the bike was any hotter then when I ride in 60

All the in-line 4's running hot at the leg level, had an yamaha fz08 in-line 4, the same, had an fz 07, never felt a hot coming from engine bay
Ive taken my 650R to the track 8 times this season without a quick shifter. Not a neccessity for beginner/intermediate rider.
First season of track riding and Im the intermediate group more or less. Practically a stock 650R. Develop your skills and dont Dick around with mods

@@rickchardet01 To be fair, that scenario is exceedingly rare here in the U.S. It's true that you can hop straight on whatever you want as soon as you want to, but thankfully in the last decade or so the availability and price of bikes like the SV650, FZ07, etc. has really driven the new rider market into the smaller displacement bikes. What we really lack is proper training before said young guy gets on a bike. The license requirements here are to take a written test and pass a parking lot test at low speed. The lack of practical on-road coaching is the real issue, but since bikes are much less common as modes of transportation (only 3 % of registered vehicles) the government doesn't care enough to make any changes.
Why didn't they give the 600 a similar styling, I think the new 600 is ugly.

People like you need to stick to 125's .. this isn't quick, infact Europe has restricted this bike so much in legislation it only puts out the same performance as a 400 did twenty years ago. It's lost horsepower not gained in that time, and now that this modern generation of little girls riding these things think it's quick. Wait till you grow a pair and get on a 200hp S1000RR you'll shit yourself 😂
And while I'm at it! Because I'm fed up with comments from experts like you, the reason why it only make 94hp and not the 120+ hp 600's should make these days, Is so It can be easily be restricted to 45 hp so that people holding an A2 license (because new riders can't be trusted not to hurt their delicate little selves) can ride the thing "while they learn" so yeah that pretty much makes it a fucking starters bike. Haha 150 mph 3.4 seconds... grown ups have been riding 600's like that for 30+ years and they've always been a starter bike.

@@Noony79 this guy had made various other comments in this video, which you haven't seen so he was doing more than quoting wiki. If you think it's too much, stick to what you feel safe on, I personally couldn't wait to ride something faster. As I grew up 600's were considered the sensible option...and if I'm honest this bike feels quite flat and dull compared to the 600's of twenty or thirty years ago.
But to get this back to the video. I'll explain it again, In England when you pass your motorcycle test at 19 years of age you are restricted to 45hp for two years which this bike can be restricted to, same can be done to your CB650R. This video is for the people considering it as an option. After two years they can de-restrict it and ride it full power. So that makes this bike a first bike option. Personally I think this law is bad for motorcycling.

In my opinion this bike should be so much better than it is, like I said in the video I have ridden all the Honda 600's since the very first one. 30 years later it's actually got slower. The bike reeks of laws, rules and restrictions and if I'm honest it's because people like the guy who commented think 94hp is too much. It isn't.
This bike in 2020 should be smashing 120+hp. If you think it's too fast then buy a 300.
@@KaiserWheelHelm in Australia I am also limited to 45hp unfortunatly for a full three years after passing your full licence despite being over 35. There is no Honda derestriction option available. I had to get custom tune and the air intakes modified.
Less than 4secs to 100km is plenty for me but I do not have your experience.

@@user-vk8yq8oq7p I don't agree with that either I'm afraid William, 600s only a few years ago where putting out 115/120 hp with no rider aids. I myself grew up on full power machines, it's how I learned to respect them. This restricted HP mentality is killing motorcycles (in my opinion) what self respecting kid is going to ride a 125cc for two years and then ride a 45hp when they can go out and buy any car they want and have all their mates with them. It's not going to happen and that's why motorcycling is dying... I think if you pass a test at 17 you should be aloud to ride 45hp and then after two years get on a 600 or anything with 100 hp.... I'm afraid to say Europe is killing bikes with these overly restrictive laws and now it's in the minds of the young generation that think 94hp is too much. It's not, what is mental is you can ride 45hp miss out 94 and get straight on a 200hp bike, now that's too much. 100hp is the perfect learner hp, it prepares you but doesn't scare you, and I'm afraid William that's the truth.

7729 in the UK which is €8539, and in Australia it's $10,000 which is €
5500! On top of that if I ever got insurance the price would be absolutely crazy. I'm hoping to move to Australia soon with my girlfriend who's Australian, better bike culture out there and much nicer riding weather of course and then the insanely cheap bikes.
