I'm a simple man, I see Adam I click
the sound of someone singing while smiling is just magic
This. It's why I can't stop listening to Raveena.
I usually don't like it, but this is an exception.
It's crazy alchemy. I was working with a singer in a vocal booth so couldn't see her, but there was this wonderful joy in her voice. I said "You have a huge smile on your face right now, don't you?". She asked "How could you tell???"
Right. Des'ree was able to do that, too.
I thought her vibe smiling and dancing made the song too
Lucy Schwartz is amazing here! That voice is superb, and she has so much joyful energy in the way she moves while singing. Excellent performance!
She sings very well, nice voice. Smiling while singing gives her some extra points also!
can we appreciate the duo vocals in the back keeping it classy?
They are hands down amazing...
And look like they are having the best time ever.
Coordinating the offbeats like that takes serious skills. Rhythmically one of the hardest things to do in music
I like this thread.
Adam Neely plays bass at scary pockets! This is perfect!
Adam Neely has the Joe dart head bangin' down
It must be an essential element of getting that sweet sweet Joe Dart sound.
He also has the half unbuttoned Joe Dart shirt look. He's lacking the stubble though.
I actually thought it was Joe Dart for a minute
It's a crucial part of bass guitar. You get assessed on it at grade 8
@@nathanksimpson Some sunglasses, too
As a Tulsan as well as a fan of Adam Neely, Pomplamoose, and Vulfpeck, I feel like the RUclips algorithm is just messing with me at this point and making its own videos.
Lol
(Sighing) yes but what are we to do?
the algorythm suggested them all to eachother TOO HAHA
If RUclips can deepfake music this good, I for one welcome our incredibly groovy machine overlords.

This video makes it worth it.
But Twitter is still a tool of Satan.
@Just some weeb got a silveraydo! Susan Wojcicki (long-ago connections from a lost time). Don't forget Cheryl Sandberg, responsible for hoovering up your data and selling it.
It's a lot like humanity: it can come off as a swirling cesspool of misery and horror and people don't take it seriously as they should, but there is good in it if you just look for it.
Yes
No kidding, I watched this video hundreds of times! More songs with Lucy PLEASE I'm in love with her voice.
Agree! I like some of the others, but she is amazing.
I watched it dozen times too!
Really...you watched it HUNDREDS of times. You must have a pretty fucking boring life.
@@tc1817 wtf
I've listened to it roughly twice a day for about a month, as part of a playlist of mine. That's 60 listens, and my life is no more boring than that of those who find the time to insult others in the comments of RUclips videos.
@@escalierdudiable watching the video is different than listening to the song on a playlist while doing other things you fucking dolt.
Who would've thought we'd get to see Adam Neely and Jack Conte play together one day?
It's a beautiful time we are in.
I know right
Esp for this song. Day made!!
I thought he looked familiar. I was thinking, "isn't that keyboard player the guy from Pomplamoose?"
I knew it, all my heroes know each other!
Vocalist is pretty, but the backing singer is beautiful (the female one btw)
I love the super clean, non-nonsense singer with the perfect pitch. Perfect example of not overdoing it, because you don't have to. 100 % on point.
Some Scary Pockets songs have been completely ruined because I think of this. Vocalists just overdoing it and I just can't listen to them such as Creep, Killing me Softly, somebody that I used to know.
Looking at it, it's India Carney. Completely over sings everything.
@@louisenicholls8370 I have had this thought also, although I love the version of Creep (but i also like Hayley Reinhardt (and Casey Abrams) in general)). Not too big a fan of I Will Survive and some other stuff too. Big fan of som of their other stuff though.
@@louisenicholls8370 Be nice
Not liking a style is fine. Calling what india does “over singing” just shows ignorance
Clean no nonsense singers are so much better than the filler bullshittery a la Mariah Carey etc
This is a pretty solid take on Vulfpeck, but Adam isn't bopping his head NEARLY enough and the video quality is way too high, needs to be grainier for that authentic experience
Also needs more silly text on the screen. Maybe play a lamp instead of drumkit?
just watch it in 144p :D
And none of these songs are named after vullfpeck tunes.
Needs more hiss and worse camera work.
I dunno. If the guitarists hands aren't blurry from 16th notes, is it Vulfpeck?
That lead singer, her shirt, Adam Neely, that vocal arrangement in the chorus, my God this is flawless
Are you a real doctor?? :D
I thought the cinematography was especially good too. Lots of slow movements punctuated by the song, even following the lead artists gestures a few time, all very cool and restrained!
kudo's... they actually managed to make one of the worst songs of the 90s listenable.
@@willritter4076 Yeah, the original was saccharine sweet.
Add the cameraman of the MSG concert on the clean guitar ;)
Props to whoever mic’d and mixed the drummer. Perfecto 👍!
Me: Hmm... Vulfpeck-izing a song huh? You better have a good bassist.
*clicks and sees Adam Neely*
This will be good.
Much respect to the guitarist for not trying to be Cory Wong. Liable to break a wrist like that.
Still needs more bass, but they nailed the sound!
@@r12895 Ryan Lerman is a serial Vulfpeck member & writes some of their tunes, he's a cool dude in his own right. Check him out playing guitar on Vulf's cover of Half Of The Way, which he wrote.
@@mosesramirez6330 How about some more cowbell
@@mosesramirez6330 Agreed, not enough bass and it really needs to groove more instead of just doubling the keys and/or guitar.
Congrats to me for my 100th view of this video!

I finally can understand these lyrics. Never knew what those guys were talking about.

Plant a seed, plant a flower, plant a rose.
You can plant any one of those.
Keep planting to find out which one grows.

That actually sounds really good when you can understand the lyrics. Also a good metaphor for love.
Strange. Never had a problem understanding the lyrics.

Fell in love with her vocal and the groovy arrangement. Can't stop playing it.
Totally agree
This lady’s performance is a total masterpiece of humanity, musicality, and femininity. The talented and tight delivery of the other musicians gives the sense of a group of highly capable people coming together to create something truly exceptional. I also love the way the two backing singers perform, so clearly enjoying themselves. The whole thing is just a joy to behold.
Wow! I was going to make a comment like: I like this or this is good. :);)
Well spoken, mate!
Lucy Swartz I love you
I keep coming back to this one. It's so special! The joy experienced is real and comes through the screen!!
Never thought I’d see Adam Neely and Vsauce in the same video.
Aaaaaaahhhhh 🔥🔥😂

Hey vsauce! Michael here. *pause* Mmmm. Bop.

I love how much fun it looks like everyone's having - the backup singer on the right doesn't stop smiling the whole time!
I don't mean to sound dramatic but i had to say this. I'm going through one of the worst 2 psychological challenges or experiences of my life to date, in this instance having just come out of a stay in hospital with COVID that has really affected me deeply. I came across this little video, and its one of very few things thats actually been able to touch me, in the corners of my mind, and make me smile and feel something like happy for a few minutes. Music heals.
Speedy recovery. This is a great, happy little song... The Bob Ross of music :)
Fellow Covid recoverer here. Totally know the feel. Stay strong, friend. We'll make it through this.
Fellow Covid fellow, made it through it and am having the greatest week I've had in the past year. It gets better, and life will again be beautiful for you.
Same here, this video should be prescribed by physicians :)
Watch Yoyoka, she is making people smile across the world. She has the gift. Stay strong.
Y’all I absolutely LOVE this rendition. Makes me happy every single time I watch it…I listened on repeat while stress-writing my thesis. You’re super!
I love her confidence and over all energy. Positively lovely.
The singer really did a wonderful job... easing into it all, having fun with it and moving fluidly with the song. Made me smile!
I thought the bass player went rogue and was smashing out 1612 at first

so was adam neely just never gonna talk about his recording session with scary pockets?? was I supposed to just stuble on this gem??
I think he did in one of his Q n A videos! In this video: ruclips.net/video/MPRpac5A_fg/видео.html , which was the very last question.
I've watched this video a buncha times and I just realized that was him and came to the comments to see if I was right.
I stuble evry tay.
Cuz Adam is a real musician who plays with hundreds of bands and doesn't make a scene about each one. Adam Neely > Scary Pockets imo.
@@SonicSeraphim heyo man that's super cool. I think like every musician in a scene of positive people that work hard to uplift each other as performers and artists would probably disagree tho! I'm not sure why you chose to hate on one of the most treasured aspects of musicianship and collaboration to make a meaningless comparison between a project band that pulls a bunch of cool people together to make awesome things and a musician that makes great educational videos while simultaneously working as a bassist, but whatever rocks your groove my dude
Was 11 when the original came out, love this version, nostalgia overload lol x
I can hear Theo Katzman singing this, its right up his alley.
It's kinda crazy, I watched them cover this live at Red Rocks (Vulfpeck) so I didn't know that they didn't do this normally. You're exactly right, it literally sounds like one of their songs.
Yes, but up an octave. hahaha
@@Maccaroney exactly. Bust out that patented falsetto
I love it. You've added some warmth and funkiness to the song without losing its innocent and cheerful vibe. And best of all, we can actually understand the lyrics now!
I agree - very well put - it's better than the original and to see them perform sparks fun!
It's good, not sure it's better than the original.@@schischyphusch

still hands down my favorite cover you guys have done to this day (although kimbras is a close second) something about how much fun shes having is so infectious and it doesnt hurt that the song and arrangement is amazing!
This is the first time I have understood roughly 85% of the lyrics to this song.
The arrangement, groove, and performance were on point!
Yeah! This song is my guilty pleasure.. Now with this version, I can play it loud 🔊 📢🎵 Fabulous 🙃🎸🎙️
I think I've listened to this song twenty times in less than five days. This whole setup is perfect and expertly put together. I love all the appreciation going on here, Ryan looks so happy with the take. There's so much going on in this video. God fucking bless Jack Conte and Ryan Lerman.
This is how Scary Pockets shines. Everyone crammed into a corner and funkin' up some old dance tune. The talent always rocks.
Adam Neely and Jack Conte? My whole world is suddenly coming together
In an alternate reality, MmmBop is an old Jackson 5 tune merely covered by Hanson.
Neely channeling the joe dart neck movements gives me life
Incredibly lovely! You have captured perfectly the often-commented-on Jackson 5 flavor “MmmBop” has!
Amazing how this little ‘90s pop-rock gem stands the test of time. Bravo! 🥰
Came for the fact I love Vulfpeck, stayed for the fact that Adam Neely was just chilling back there
gutted not see a go pro on the end of adam’s bass for a gig vlog on his channel!
😂😂😂
I trying to see if Adam was filming for a video too 😂. Not really a gig tho, just a recording sesh
BASS!!
I was thinking the same thing!
Guys, I think it's time we accept that it was a good song in the first place. Also, those drums are so crisp sounding.
Connor Davis was it ever otherwise?
People got turned off that the original was a pop-tune made over a christian hymn. Funny thing about this is that Lucy sings one note b-ed down, which made it necessary to change the following chord, so this is in essence no longer the same piece... ;)
(btw to the hear the difference, pay attention to the "doodle-yah" bit of the chorus)
Sheesh, the thing I wanted to say to begin with was actually that Caleb is just adding on with every upload. If he keeps it up, he's gonna be a standard by which sound engineers set the bar.
I can't for the life of me understand why people didn't get that it was a good song in the first place!! Like... guys, it was inspired by *doowop* ! It wasn't a "nonsense song" just because the chorus uses doowop haha. And I'd probably have less respect for it if it was some song that adults had written for them, but nope, then Hansons wrote it all on their own as young kids (Taylor wrote the verses when he was all of 11 or 12 years old), so like... why is it that they got so insanely mocked for something that was really freaking impressive!?
The girl singing is making the song for me. Her bubbly vibe is great.
Keep coming back to this. It's great.
I don't know who this Lucy Schwartz is, but she is adorbs. So cute. She totally fits the song.
at 1:55, when she goes "shhh!". aaaah, I'm dying.
I just discovered this channel. I am blown away by the musicianship :-). And a big shout out to your recording engineer/mixer.
This video lifts my spirit every time I watch it...and lately, I have to watch it everyday to avoid the yawning pit of despair. Thanks to Scary Pockets and Lucy Schwartz!
Its like falling in Love with her just because of her joyful energy by singing!
Thank you for this amazing performance guys! 🥰
They all look genuinely so happy that I get happy watching them💜
Yeaaaaa Adam layin down that low end!
Yeah boiiiii
Stellar! A singer who's doing both melody and rhythm at the same time. And both are riding on top of the underpinning underneath. She's hanging ten on this ride.
I love scary pockets 1) for their groove obvs 2) for introducing me to new amazing musicians constantly. Keep it up! And Lucy is a wonder! I’ve already subscribed to her channel
Man, this band just restored my faith in music. Thank you all for the greatest versions I have heard of all the songs.

This is it. The performance I didn't know I was waiting for. The vibes I really needed today. Thanks!
Thanks for doing a fantastic cover of my favourite band. Excellent job.
Already being perusing this on my spotify since some months ago, lovely to match visual to sound
having so much fun and yet notes are on point, words are clear, technic is class.
Lucy is so adorable! She makes the whole song so much fun with her energy ❤️
Here i am again. I can't get over this. I need more colabs with Lucy Schwartz
Laid-back funk is the best kind. You nailed this one.
I don't know if I'll be able to make that Portland show, but I hope you play this there.
It's all about restraint. Every instrument is perfectly audible. And it's so smooth in the way they can feel themselves without getting too loud.
It's so funky, and it's low volume
There it is. The best cover on the internet period.
Reina Del Cid and Tony Lindgren covering Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released" is mine. This one is close.
I’m a big Hanson fan and I love the cover you did of this song! (Also, love the t-shirt!) Thank you for doing such a cool rendition of the song and sharing it with the world!
My heart hurts. Because when I see some music online a friend of mine would enjoy I would send it. I can’t anymore. He passed away unexpectedly January. We lost an amazing guy who loved musical variety as much as I do. 💔
in love with this girl and this voice
First time I've ever been able to hear the lyrics in the ~20 years I've heard it off and on.
Everyone is spot on both emotionally- feeling the music - and together, as they play, creating a superb rendition. I really get a buzz of this. Thanks guys and gal.
This is so groovy and wholesome I'd expect Muppets to be dancing around.
Lucy should be on the Muppets as the guest musical star.
HECK YES! Thank you for covering this song! LOVE HANSON 😍
I didn't realize till just this moment - nearly 25 years on - how sweet those lyrics are.
EDIT: Not to mention that fucking HOOK by this band. Damn, people.
Did you know that those brothers wrote that song as teenagers? That wasn't record company pablum- it was a song they shopped until someone took it.
@@clarkevanmeter2676 Yeah, I remember the interviews. That's a big part of what made it legitimately great - they wrote and performed it themselves.
Wow, that girl can saaaang!
Lucy is WONDERFUL!!!
To all the people who performed on this track, very nicely done! I grew up rocking to the Wrecking Crew as a child in the 60's and 70's. This performance is 100% on the mark. Every nuance of everyone's effort shines and shimmers in glorious ear candy. The singing is absolutely beautiful, the sound engineering is immaculate, each instrumentalist is gathering nectar from heaven and distilling it into my ears. I avoided the original Hanson version when it bubble-gum-popped on the scene. (Hanson was a hit with my kids.) Now I hear excellent lyrics delivering a positive and uplifting message. Like much of the Scary Pockets repertoire, this tune is glorious. Commercial radio is running so far behind! Corporate think tanks? Focus groups gathering public opinion? Get real.
Focus groups are always backwards-looking, the rear-view mirror. It takes some brilliant guessing and risk-taking to make real progress.
The energy was great! The way Lucy hops around is so joyful!
Impossible not to get happy when looking at y'all. x)
I hope Adam did a gig vlog for this!! I'd love to see how a Scary Pockets production goes!!!
Gregory Allen yeah how dare people like the content somebody makes and enjoy them as an artist! What shills!
What a vocal performance... c'mon so addictive. It screams pure joy, uplifts my day when i'm sad! It's this powerful.
Wow, I love her voice, oh my god. Great arrangement, background singers killing it. NICE!🔥🔥🔥
This song is itself actually really beautiful. I never listened to the lyrics before, they're lovely.
I love how much fun she's having singing
Dang y’all are locked in. Sooooo good!
Sooooo good! Don't know how I missed this the first time around, but man this is such a fantastic cover. Fresh and funky!

They were going a little bit faster but otherwise kinda similar
Just watched a video from that night, can confirm. Similar, but the real Vulfpeck version is superior.
