Gotye never wanted the latter. The success of STIUTK was completely coincidental, it made him uncomfortable, so he decided to step out of the spotlight afterwards. He's still a musician and plays with his old band and lives a normal life in Melbourne, Australia. That's exactly what he wants and I love that for him.

Without kimbra its gotye just crying into his beer and that shit gets old quick instead of ppl still listening what 13 years later. Kimbra i had hoped would build on those quirky solo performances of settle down but ended up a particular brand of pop i find easily forgettable unfortunately.
Almost 15 years later and this song is still so fucking good. So original, emotional and the depth of instrumental expertise is just….the best.

This is the first time ever that I'm happy that the algorithm bring me many many many links related and specially this to see so many different scenes of them.
It was a second time I see a video since the "official" one. And now this is an incredible higher emotion when I see her moving as well him and the group. Their body language is so powerful. She is so empowered. All together it's like a cake, all the perfect ingredients suddenly waking up all your deepest senses. Now I dream to see them on very big screen unless live.

I am almost 59 years old and the words in this song are so profound. This happens with so many people as you travel through life for both good and ill. I try and think of all the people who I used to know and I truly wish I could see most of them again and just catch up. yes, the contrast is heightened here, because the whole thing almost has such a childlike quality to it. all the staccato sounds and the super simple chords. the little xylophone picking out the melody is like something you'd find in a kid's classroom. marry all that with the sad, heartfelt lyrics and it's instant melancholy.

Hey Edward, i'm 76 too but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy what was used to be called "pop" music mainly intended for a young audience at the time. What the hell, we've both heard thousands of songs in our time so we know when we hear something special - like this. Reckon the lyrics will have an uncomfortable familiarity for many.

I have never heard of Kimbra before, but she absolutely crushes that verse and makes the song that much better. I also really love that when she comes in, she's looking at him, and he's looking away, and then when he starts to sing again, he looks to her but she turns away. It helps me kind of deal with unresolved anger and resentment from a break-up that occurred nearly 20 years ago now. While I certainly was no angel, I was so mentally and emotionally abused in that relationship, blamed for everything, yet codependently hanging on his every word and feeling hoping to make things better. I just couldn't live that way anymore. We tried being friends for a little while after the break-up, but after a while, I just couldn't. So, it's now been 17 years since I've seen or spoken to him. He's literally somebody that I used to know.
Love it at the end when Kimbra gives him a knowing look like we smashed it or maybe something more. All in the eyes. That lovely verse she gives it her all, eyes mouth and facial expression. Pure class. The pure talent in that room.. all the band, drummer, guitarists , and the film crew. Never see that again. Kimbra and Gotye absolute legends... Not forgetting the best bloke on the xylophone.
“Now you’re just somebody that I used to know” stays so relevant of a line because we’ve all been there. We had someone that was the center of our being turn into a stranger. I could write a thousand words on that but that’s why this song is so perfect. It explains the entire situation, simply and accurately.
I remember where I was when I heard the towers fall, and when I first heard this song. It’s crazy how much impact it has.

I remember when this song came out. I was flying from Orlando to Sacramento with a layover in Las Vegas, and I listened to this on repeat during both flights. Never got sick of it, still not sick of it.
