  • A first look at the Leonardo McDonnell Douglas MD-82 "Mad Dog" in Microsoft Flight Simulator - flying a circuit around Stansted Airport. I cause all manner of alarms to go off on landing, and obviously have a LOT to learn - but the scope for education and associated satisfaction with this aircraft is HUGE.
    It's one of the first proper "study level" aircraft in the simulator - along with the BAE-146, and will no doubt be the focus of many, many videos going forwards.

      I had to create a throttle profile specifically for it, use the 0-100 axis, and change the sensitivity to move the centre position of the throttle throws to +50% in order to make the reverser bite point kick in at the right point for the Airbus quadrant.

      @@mro9466 it's not game breaking. It freezes for 10 to 15 seconds, once and only once when you fly the first time after loading the application. I agree the price is a bit steep for MSFS, especially with those terrible sounds and not the best visuals, but it is the most complex and finished airliner available. The 146 doesn´t even have a custom FMC yet and not everything is simulated.

  • @jeeps7er
    @jeeps7er 2 года назад +3

    Having had a spate of CTD on final approach, the benefit of such a complex aircraft is that the time it will take me to get it in the air means it's more likely to crash shortly after take-off.

  • @donbuller3643
    @donbuller3643 2 года назад +1

    Mounting the magnetic compass away from the panel provided more accurate headings. Obviously, the mirror is so you can see it without turning around. Search for images of a magnetic compass in airliners or GA aircraft. They will have a card showing the corrected heading to fly because of the interference caused by instruments in the panel.

      I haven't actually checked that - but if you think about it, if this is study level, who would it let you do something automatically that wasn't possible in the real aircraft? In this aircraft, the fun is in programming the FMC by hand.

      @@jonbeckett Whether it's "study level" is debatable. Only a real simulator can provide study level models. The EFBs that we see in all modern flight sims, including the MD-80, also are not realistic but they are implemented on all so called "study level" models and I'm sure you are using that EFB on the Maddog.

It happens with any device that uses batteries, and is sent a wakeup signal, for some reason msfs blocks that wakeup signal, and freezes everything. I was hoping that would help ya, because that sucked. I knew it would always come back up eventually so it wasn't game breaking, but I've had it happen on approach.
