- Absolutely spiffing flight for you today! Join me in the Blériot XI by Wing42 as we attempt to replicate two previously attempted world record flights.
We’ll be first having a crack at the most famous flight of the Blériot XI and the one that put her on the map, Louis Blériot’s flight across the English Channel in 1909. We’ll be flying the original Anzani powered variant of the Blériot which was hopelessly underpowered and incredibly challenging to fly. We’ll be starting Saint-Inglevert (LFIS), which is close to the original starting point of this flight, where we’ll make our way across the channel to Dover where we will try and settle the aircraft down near a field close to where Blériot crash landed!
For the 2nd flight we’ll follow in Jorge Chávez’ footsteps and replicate the first flight across the Alps in 1910! This time we will fly the Gnome engine variant of the Blériot XI which had twice the power of the Anzani and was a little easier to manage. We will take off from Raron Airport (LSTA) which is close to the original start point in Brieg, Switzerland and try to climb as high as possible in the valley to reach sufficient altitude. We need to reach at least 2,000 meters (6500ft) to make it over the peaks and then follow the mountain valleys to Domodossola in Italy, landing at a small strip called Aviosuperficie Chavez/Marini. Tragically, Chávez’s crashed just minutes away on his attempt!
Massive thanks to Wing42 for allowing me to giveaway a free copy of this study-level representation of this iconic 1909 flying machine! I’ll also purchase and giveaway a 2nd copy of the Blériot XI to a lucky winner too. Each giveaway will take part after the respective flight
Let’s see how we fare against the feats of these daredevil early aviators who pushed the boundaries of flight!

technology took off so quickly during the 1900s. it’s incredible. 60 years later we had f15s.
This is something that really stuck with my after I went to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.
And Concordes!
and now everything is stuck in the 60's in aviation xD
@@XouZ88 Because we've had no major global conflicts in a long time. There's no major need for faster and better aircraft.
This is a brilliant stream. Not the first or the last pilot to realise that going up is much simpler than going down.
haha, my wife looked over my shoulder and we both "willed" you into that Dover field... edge of the seat stuff, thank you...
Haha thank you Eric! One of the most rewarding flights I’ve ever completed! Glad you enjoyed it!!

I can imagine back those days it's crazy
That was a bunch of fun! Thanks @flightdeck2sim for the flights and thanks @chat - you were hilarious! :-)
You're most welcome and thank you for kindly giving away a free copy to my viewers! Looking forward to more Bleriot adventures!
This was brilliant. I missed it live due to time difference unfortunately, but I just finished watching the replay and what a blast. I loved the little facts about the flights and planes, the planes themselves and the sounds are so awesome. Thanks for streaming this!
Thanks for your kind words Spath21! It was an absolute blast to take out for a spin, looking forward to trying some more epic adventures in it!

Capt I honestly wasn't going to watch this episode because of the ancient aircraft but I'm glad i did. It was like watching history live and the joking around with the B737ng one liners was a blast.
Looking forward to more "ancient" aircraft episodes.

It was great fun to fly this virtual representation of one of the most important aircraft ever built! Banter comes as standard!

Does Vnav work on this aircraft, captain? 😂 What a legend of an aircraft, thanks for the live!
There is a lovely little Bleriot in the Air Force Museum at Wigram in NZCH or there was Last time I visited
Just bought the bird and I already kissed the ground 2 times without any respect of my pilot skills lol! Such an excellent addon, so hard and so funny to fly in the same way! So far I'm just testing the way she behaves, VFR pattern circuit in the first place with the gnome (the easier one) but I "overstressed the aircraft and caused structural damage" too many times! It's such a hard thing to deal with power/"Vspeed" for the first attempts, it's definitely an oustanding way to bring some realism out to MFS2020 in terms of flight dynamic and history by the same matter!... as a French (grounded) pilot, I'm proud, tks Sir Louis Blériot, un oiseau, un maitre! ;-) Now let's see how to deal with her, and later I'll go on the RIP edition hhh! tks for the video Captain! ;-)
Many of the issues you had was causing by basic aerodynamics that was still a mystery back then, but since this plane doesn't have ailerons and more or less needs to fly leveled all the time, you need to use mainly rudder to steer the plane, and also always turn a little bit to the right because one engine propeller planes tend to steer to the left and this plane is symmetrical so you need to compensate yourself regardless the speed. In calm air it's quite easy to fly this only using the rudder, you will slightly climb with full throttle even if you let go of the stick, slightly throttle back will level the plane even without trimming.
Imagine a mod where some ofthe cities are changed to the way they were tens, hundreds of years ago.
I wish
I'm glad that the take off from a professional pilot looks like mine.
That's fantastic lol!!! Oh how did you open that map in-game?!!
@flightdeck2sim what was the song playing in the intro waiting period???
the RIP version 👏😂
So I’m assuming that there is no actuator yelling “TERRAIN, TERRAIN. PULL UP, PULL UP? OK, fair enough. Does it at least have an FMC
Yes, it does have an FMC. A Fully Manual Control - aka a flightstick. 😁
After 30 minutes it has accelerated to walking speed!
lol 😁 old but good
👍🏻
Can someone please make a video flying the longest route in the world with this aircraft?😂😂
:)
You speak portugues!!
Did I mishear about the Wright Bros machine....oh it was an air bicycle
@@MidwestFarmToys My point is itthis Bleriot was not the first airplane The first airplane was the Wright machine in 1903 built by the Wright Bros who owned a bicycle firm.
@@MidwestFarmToys I note the title did not qualify as this and anyway that is debateable.
Way too much talking
why is the scenery so poor?
