I'm surprised you left out Jane's WWII Fighters. That was a classic for me.
and Janes ATF and USNF
Jane's Longbow2
Jane's USNF 97 and USAF or IAF
It was a classic for everyone that liked WWII sim.
Great video but lot of the greats from back in the day are absent: Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Red Baron, Aces of the Pacific, Commanche, AH64 Attack Helicopter, to name a few. 😀
Chuck Yeager was my absolute favorite for several years. I also went on several Military ride in simulators, but on very easy modes.
@@T_bone "It's a great day for flying" 🙂
Also Wings, Knights of the Sky and F/18 Interceptor. :)
@@davidknowles2491 I forgot Knights of the sky! 👍
TOP 1 NOW IS IL2.....CHUCK. AND HELLCATS OVER THE PACIFIC...THE BEGINING OF THE DREAM.....
Some of important games missing:
Fighter Pilot (ZX Sectrum)
Solo Flight (C=64)
Jet (MS DOS)
Wings (Amiga)
F/a 18 Interceptor (Amiga)
Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe (PC)
Fighter Pilot was also available for the C64 😊
F-16 combat pilot 1989’ was so good game
And also "Pro Pilot 99" was also a good flight simu. (sur PC).
"Fighter Bomber" both on Amiga and PC, and F-29 Retaliator were iconic as well at the time. My Amiga came with F/A-18 Interceptor, I loved it. I also loved how Wings! was hard drive installable on the Amiga
@@davidewhite69 Fighter Bomber, was a real Master Piece...
Red Baron 3D and some Janes USAF/US Navy Fighters were pretty influential in the day, sad to see them not included
Agreed 100%.
Agreed, I remember them better than half of what was shown here. As a kid, I dreamed of playing Red Baron 3D
Janes F18 and F15E were gems. And FA18 3.0 as well.
a few more for the list:
ZX Spectrum: Tomahawk (AH-64 sim) [DI],
Atari ST: MiG-29 Fulcrum, MiG-29M Super Fulcrum, F-16 Combat Pilot [DI] and HiSoft ProFlight (Tornado sim),
PC: Tornado [DI], Ah-64 Apache [DI], Hind [DI], F/A-18 Hornet [DI],EF-2000, F-22 ADF, F-22 Total Air War, A-10 Cuba, F/A-18 Korea and Take On Helicopters
One company releasing on all these platforms: Digital integration [DI]
The most obscure is probably HiSoft Proflight as they are better known for their ZX Spectrum and Atari ST programming tools/Dev environments
How have flight simulations evolved since 1979? If you know of any other games not on this list, please feel free to list them in the comments. What is the best simulation?
A series of games: IL-2 Sturmovik - The Best!
Afterburner
TFX
Falcon, Falcon AT, F-19, Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer, Jet Fighter series, Eurofighter, LHX and Jane's series of flight sims. I'm sure there are a lot more than what you have.
Ace combat
I think falcon 4.0 still to this day is one beautiful game it’s the best looking for 1998 and still holds up in 2023 with bms updates
Gunship 2000 is from 1991.
Did you just missed out NES Top Gun? And War Thunder?
They’re not simulators unfortunately.
@@ekram1v135 If you noticed some games in this video are also not simulators.
War thunder has simulation mode that's almost as realistic and sim as DCS.
War thunder? Lmfao
Birds of Steel, in realistic and simulator mode is good
Missing:
F-117
BoB
2 games, that I was playing on my dad's PC around 30 years ago.
YES. You never disappoint. Probably my new favorite vid of yours seeing as "Ace of Aces" (best game ever) as well as Microsoft Flight Sim for the C64 and MS-Dos are probably my earliest memories of "video games"
I talked my grandfather into buying a beefy PC he didn't need just so I could upgrade to the DOS version. Prerequisite for every kid was to fly into the Twin Towers in NYC (too soon?)
I don't know man this list is full of inaccuracies
SUPER VIDÉO 👍 MERCI ET QUE DE BEAUX SOUVENIRS 👌
Pacific fighters (it was called Pearlharbor locally) and X-Plane 7 was my first interaction with flying in general. Landing B-25 on carrier or flying around world with SR-71 - teens were "eventfull" despite living in rural area without any access to internet (except short periods at school ) - only in late 00s area got "up to modern standards".
Eee?
Magnifico trabajo, gracias.
Looking at the PC ones, it seems most of them would have required a beasty PC for the year they were released.
It's amazing that FlightGear is still kicking! I hear they adapt to Vulkan now.
1:11 top landing advanced for its time.
Well said! F-14 tomcat and TFX also!
My uncle had the Flight Simulator 1984. I remember I thought it was so amazing. I would visit him just for chance to play the game.
Didn't see Secret Weapons Over Normandy 2003 Playstation 2. Great game if you get a chance. Awesome content, great channel!
Nice list but some mandatory milestones are missing: F-15 Strike Eagle II and III, TFX, DID Tornado and EF2000.. also Apache longbow / AH-64D Longbow (wich came out almost together in time).. even LHX going back
So the Chuck Yeager genre of sims wasn't worth mentioning, despite flight model characteristics years ahead of its time??? And F-117? And a couple of amazing helicopter sims? And Falcon BMS?
Pretty nice that you also included Ace Combat games as well, even though I only played X and Joint Assault
Wow! Thank you.
I almost got my Dad to buy us a Lynx for Warbirds alone. He had his PPL when younger, and had to let it go later as it became too expensive of hobby to upkeep, but we was always fascinated by flight simulators. When I showed him Warbirds running on a Lynx at a display unit in some game store, he was blown away...but not quite enough. He made a deal where if I save up half the money, my parents would kick in the second half, but...money burns holes in the pockets of a young teenager.
Great video but I'm missing TFX, US Navy fighters, Eurofighter, Overlord, Pacific airwar.
Don't think I saw A-10 Tank Killer in that
So many games are missing here .. Jetfighter, F29 Retaliator, UFO, F15, Su-25 stormovik, Red Baron and I bet many, many more.
Fighter Ace II and III was my first experiences with online combat and I was pretty good at it, esp chewing up the rookies with the BF-110. I also remember when FA 3 had free events and sometimes for a time free servers with basic aircraft. That was a fun time. Otherwise most of my flying has been done Single Player up to DCS :P
Was Hornet 3.0 in there or did I miss it? Also missing the Strike Fighter series with TK trying to keep the spirit of the easily accessable and moddable flight sim alive :)
Instead of adding an arcade like Thunder Blade,...add F-19, F-117 and Chuck Yeager Air Combat ...
I was there from the beginning.1979 Atarrii Commadore...Radio shack floppy disk... Yaba daba DOOOO!!! And now in 2023??? WOW!!!
You missed a whole boatload of flight sim games dude but good video
what a great video ...I'd mention "Knights of The Sky" ...and "Ace's High"
I thought Pilotwings (1990 SNES) would be included.
Just came here to say exactly the same thing. Surprising omission.
Falcon 4 campaign still unbeaten
You could have dropped the Arcade games for things like: Red Baron, Aces over Europe, Aces over the Pacific and Microsoft Combat Flight Sim.
How to tell the editor plays Ace Combat and IL2, but cant handle DCS. (shakes head in pathos)
Great compilation but missed some essentials giving to much space to IL-2.
I played a great combat simulation: TFX (Eurofighter EF-2000, F-22 Raptor and AWACS)
A very important evolution indeed !
1:40 - those two screenshots of Air Warrior are the best!
Que de souvenir dont j'ai encore les disquettes et CD… Mais il en manque des bons... Novalogic Virgin Did Janes etc...
Wheres the Janes Combat Simulations love at ): great list though.
HAWX, mig alley, aerofighters Assault, Top Gun, f-14...
Missing the Sierra/Dynamix games. A-10 Tank Killer, Red Barron, Aces of the Pacific, Aces over Europe. And some other Microprose games namely the B-17 games. Also the Janes series of sims. And DCS did not come out in 2022, it came out in 2008 it's simply still updated and maintained. But then again so are many of these other games. The IL2 Great Battles games, Flying Circus...
As someone else's Chuck Yeager flight simulator as the best. But while it might be impossible for the Creator to find, the KayPro my friend Sander had had an excellent Flight Simulator, although a little unrealistic in that you could switch planes mid-flight if I recall. Imagine going at Mach 2 in an SR-71 and then going into a Sopwith Camel. It did indicate that the plane was literally torn apart.
Nice collection, but I was missing some of my favorites:
- Aces Over Europe
- Wings of Victory 2 Battle of Britain
- European Air War
8:38 Gunship 2000 was released in 1991 ....not in 2000!
mi first was flight simulator 2, time flies! btw you forgot the janes combat simulation games, USNF, ATF, AH64 Longbow ...
We need an evolution of flight combat games
0:33 flash backs
I have spent also hours with Chuck Jager air combat - who remember such game?
One of the best PC air game ever made. Such a overtimed game with amazing mechanics, even damage zones etc. But there were no campaign like in other games.
@@majkz9657 Indeed, this was missing, but even without it I have spent hours with this game. :)
im surpriced they consider world of war planes a sim but not war thunder bruh
No Wings! on the Amiga or any of the Janes PC sims, USNF, ATF etc?
Flight Sim 3 was the start when machines were started getting more powerful and software more complicated - realistic.
ZX Spectrum was my first Computer. Great. Which game is this in your Video?
Forgot Red Baron and Red Baron II
1:44 The best speed ever
It's comedic to me that I could play a flight sim wherein I'm a passenger by the window, maybe getting ready to take a nap. Which pillow should I choose? :-) Sounds like something on The Simpsons.
independence day was a great flight sim dog fight game
Hy, i'm not going to top down, because obviously you did your best for release this video, but honestly, i see this video like a very incomplete, and miss a lot, but when i say a lot, i mean a lot, of very important Master pieces (specially from the 80's) which those were very important step of the flight simulations improvement in the years.
The video is not ugly, but in my opinion, it is too much incomplete. Also included on the list too many titles which have nothing to share with flight simulations, but they were just arcade games for entertainment.
Hahaha super thunder blade I always remember when you input your name there was a little happy panda face in with the letters never knew why
Wow, this skipped an incredible number of flight sims.
gunship 2000 didn't actually come out in the year 2000, it came out in 1991
ProPilot 99 forgotten
Falta el COMBAT FLIGHT SIMULATOR de Microsoft
and these opinions from that time: a super realistic simulator :)
miss Janes IAF & Janes USAF :....(
God I'd forgotten just how terrible the earlier ones were 😭 lol
F/A-18 Interceptor in the year 1988
Right. No SWOTL, No F-19, No Comanche, No Red Baron.
War Thunder simulator mode is missing
Combat Flight Simulador 1Europa, Combat Flight Simulador 2 Pacífico los tengo aún instalados. No los ví en la lista.
Planes 2013 from Disney best
Didn't the Blue Angels make their own game on PS4?
1991 for me. Falcon 3.0
Battle of Midway😢
Se me hace raro ver los Thunder Blade de SEGA en esta lista, ya que no los considero para nada simuladores, son en realidad todo lo contrario 😅
RED BARON 3D??? 😁
2:36 falcon on cga.... fantastic 🤮
Nice overview. Could have stick to proper sims and no arcade games :)
Also, Gunship 2000 is not from the year 2000, I remember playing it around 1994 or so.😊
Gunship 2000 did NOT come out in the year 2000, it was 1991.
Ace Combat has never and will never be a flight simulator
Interceptor for Amiga
Not a real fan of Ubisoft and HAWX series but they didnt even mention about them...
Some of titles are not even close to be a sim - for example WTF is Ace Combat doing on the list? But that aside, not a bad video, it is showing nice progress form 8-bit early days to what a modern 64-bit PC can pull off.
They forgot ace of aces for the Atari
0:32 oh hell nah
Aces Over Europe
Aces of the Pacific
A-10 Tank Killer
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator Series
WTF, how is Aces High 1,2 and 3 not on this list
You also missed Jane's
F/A18 E/F super Hornet
0:30 what wore you gonna do 💀💀
0:31 is that some 9/11 prediction ?
0:31 wait a damm minute
just a little joke 🤠
The first one is not of 1979, it's from 1982 and it's the first Microsoft Flight Simulator
0:31
The best game tbh
amazing😊

US NAVYFighters 97.

Also some like F-18 and F-18 over Korea.
