  • A beginners guide to ILS (Instrument Landing System) in the Leonardo "Mad Dog" MD-82 in Microsoft Flight Simulator. We do two circuits of Stansted, London - first performing a manual approach to show symbology changes on the CDI and glideslope, then using VOR LOC mode, and ILS mode on the autopilot.

    Thanks for this video, it really helped as some other videos over explain things outside of the actual flying (ramble on) and often miss what this video really shows, flying with the system and how/why without going off topic. Appreciate it!

    Thanks for your videos, it’s a great plane but your videos help bring the learning process to life. We don’t all learn from reading manuals, so thanks!

    Brilliant video, very informative, I haven't flown the md82 yet, but I will now, thanks from all us simmers

    I love this aircraft. I first flew it a couple of days ago and although it takes some getting used to coming from an Airbus it's great to hand fly

      Yes - the flight model is very, very good.

    Excellent Jon, well done ! I've just downloaded EGSS and will practice same thing as you did

      I don't have any custom scenery for Stansted. I'll have to look into that.

      @@jonbeckett let me give you an idea for future videos. I struggle to find easy and straight to the point tutorials on how to configure flight plans (just the from/to and ils data without all the other optional information), and all i can find are long videos with lots of commentaries. I love your style and maybe this would help people like me who dont have thay much time to enjoy the sim in such depth.
      For example, im right now looking for an easy 5 to 10 min video on how to enter the ils radio freq in the A320NX and how to properly use the AP to intercept the feather and glide slope. Someone to tell me click here, enter this from littlenavmap, flip this switch and you are good to go.
      Does it make sense? I bet a series like this will get you lots of views! Cheers!

    Thank you very much Jonathan, very informative video, no wonder why I only catch half of my ILS approaches I was expecting the LOC to do everything for me, just one question, I haven't use this airplane in Heading mode but I also haven't seen a Heading mode button, do you click the heading selector knob to activate the Heading mode in the autopilot?

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  2 года назад +1

      yes - click on the heading knob.

    Can it do RNAV approaches? Any walk-throughs on that? Thanks!

      Yes, and when I can invent a few more days a week I'll get around to it :)

    What about RNAV, will MD82 catch glide scope and guide the aircraft down, like in ILS. Or do I need to descend and land manually ?

      @jonbeckett  Год назад

      Good question. I should take a look at that too.

    Great tutorial, helps a lot, what is the squealing noise throughout the first part of the flight? Sounds like Morse code. I just did a flight and it was make the noise the whole time, seemed to disappear when you switched off auto throttle, it’s an expected noise then ATS fine but I was worried I that something set wrong

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  2 года назад +1

      It's the trim.

    • @gcookscotland7085

      @@jonbeckett thought the trim was the barking noise

    • @EpseLepse

      Can also be the autothrottle, it's noisy as heck

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  2 года назад

      @@EpseLepse well... the auto-throttle causes the trim to adjust itself.

    If the plane doesn't have autoland what is the AUTO LAND button for, just under the ILS?

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  2 года назад

      Well... it DOES have autoland, but it's very, very firm :)

    Autoland should work, I'll test it later.
