- A first flight in the BAe 146 in Microsoft Flight Simulator - doing a circuit of Stansted airport in London, and talking through some of the features and functions along the way.
Expect many more videos as I explore the avionics, procuedures, and flight management computer.

Really like your approach to explain things - a great overview of the BAE146. And this calm BBC voice... Thank you! 💙☀
Thankyou!
That is a gorgeous model (and aircraft)! I know a bit about 3D modelling and texturing, and they've done a truly excellent job. The metal textures on the engines are superb, tremendous level of detail throughout, and highly immersive given all the operational systems and extras, like the doors and stairs. The mind boggles at the number of hours that have gone into it - sure, it's a serious amount of money, but you're getting the product of an immense amount of work. It definitely has the British aircraft industry look and feel to it, with a hint of the future. Gotta love those big old rocker switches! Definitely sits between GA aircraft and Airbus/Boeing product, and would make a nice transition stage.
And expertly demonstrated and flown, as ever - nice to see some hands-on flying rather than a course in FMC programming! Time and effort spent very much appreciated.
One very minor point though.... there seems to be a mismatch between the voice of the copilot and the physical appearance!
You're welcome - glad you liked the video :)
Been wanting this for ages and I've held off... watched videos... and held off... and watched videos... and wanting to wait for the RJ release - but this review has me sold! :D
Fantastic
@@jonbeckett Spent 2 hours on the ground with it, let alone flying - it's just gorgeous!
I love the BAe 146 😍 Fantastic video ✈ 👍 I fly this aircraft on X-Plane 11.
As a child, I had to lie on the top floor of the Bern University Hospital for a long time because of a lung disease. During this terribly difficult time, the BAe 146-100 of DAN-AIR was a welcome sight! The aircraft often flew between London Gatwick and Bern. The approach and departure route passed near the hospital. Since I was on the top floor of the hospital, I could easily spot the aircraft. The DAN-AIR BAe 146 was such an encouraging highlight for me 🙂 It meant the world to me - and still does!
Great story. The Dan Air livery in MSFS is very, very nice.
This was actually a really enjoyable video, I smashed that subscribe button. I am on the fence between buying the PMDG 737 or the BAe 146 but I think the 146 is where my heart is. I was toying with this thought last night and I checked Flightradar as a plane flew overhead, it turned out to be a BAe 146 on it's usual Sydney to Melbourne route ... It was a literal sign from above.
Good choice!
Great airliner. Just Flight did a really good job on this one. I will be flying this as Qantaslink around Australia heaps. It's got me even more excited for the 737.
Sounds great! I love flying around Australia - the cities on the coast are perfect for short hops in the big jets.
As someone who's used flight sims since Fs98, I've only ever been interested in GA and at s stretch turboprops etc. Never been interested in airliners, but I've always loved 146's - especially going to Woodford for airshows as a kid. Would you recommend this to someone in that situation, or is it too in depth to start with etc? I was looking at either this or the pmdg 737.
I think it's brilliant - and it flies wonderfully without the autopilot, so if you just want to hand-fly it, it's great too.
Nice video, Jon! I also am enamored by the look and handling of the 146 so I look forward to learning it over the next few weeks (as time allows). I'm also looking forward to joining another VO group flight. :)
Looking forward to seeing you!
Thank you. I have the FSX version of this aircraft. Can't wait to get this one. Nicely done vid... Thanks.
Thankyou!
Love this video made me go and buy this little jet. If only I could get the hang of the vor nav systems. Thanks
You can do it!
@@jonbeckett thanks been watching your nav video over and over.
nice job !!!
Very nice airplane. Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for doing this. Can you do one on the FMS and incorporating a simbrief flight plan? Cheers
Done :) Check the newer videos in my channel :)
Hello, great video! Would you mind sharing your 4 engine settings for your throttle, cheers.
Yes, me too please. I'd like to see the "4 engine" setup for this. I have those same Airbus controls.
Yo también tengo el mismo thrustmaster tca y no consigo que me funcione en este avión, me gustaría saber la configuración de los 4 motores. Gracias
I believe it's just mapping your left hardware throttle to 1 & 2, and right hardware throttle to 3 & 4. Different to mapping twins.
On the Airbus controller, L Axis X to engines 1 and 2 (0 to 100%), L Axis Y to engines 3 and 4 (0 to 100%). Reset all the sensitivity curves so they are straight lines, and don't use the reverser levers (lock them out).
Amazing video. Is it the FMS the real one? Or are they planning to upgrade it with the newer one? Thank you.
I do know the FMC was retro fitted into the BAE146 quite late in it's life - I *think* it's accurate - it's essentially a downgraded version of the same system you find in the Boeing aircraft of the era. Prior to them having the FMC, the pilots just relied on VOR/DME navigation.
Looks fab this. What specs are you running it on out of curiosity?
i7, NVIDIA 3080, 16Gb RAM, NVME + SSD. It's worth noting - it hardly touches system RAM, and the CPU is only perhaps 30% used. The GPU on the other hand is somewhat stressed :) I frame limit to 30FPS with V-Sync on.
@@jonbeckett that’s really useful to know thank you. My card is a 1650 and I thought that could be a bottle neck for this module. sounds like it might struggle
nice video by the way
Thanks!
Where do I download/buy this plane?
justflight - it costs about €60
@@jonbeckett okay thanks. Is it worth €60?
@@mattludick8204 Absolutely. Everybody I know that has bought it loves it.
If I flew with a lady copilot who sounded like that - ha, I’d don my parachute and bail out licketty split. Lol!!
I think you'll find that's the computer :)
What a chunky cute plane
This plane gives me a headache every time 😅
I love it :)
PMDG. said they hoped for a release the next weekend, but nothing certain. It is on the forum.
Fingers crossed it doesn't cost a small fortune :)
Doesn't have VNAV unfortunately, wonder if it will later? This is the only plane that kills my fps in VR so that I'm struggling to fly it. Great video though Jonathan, thanks.
Yeah - the FMC is a cut-down version of the Working Title one seen in the CJ4. I wonder if JustFlight might replace it at some point.
