    They started performing at a club called John's Black Derby in Santa Ana, CA. According to Medley, they adopted the name "The Righteous Brothers" for the duo because black Marines from the El Toro Marine base started calling them "righteous brothers". At the end of a performance, a black U.S. Marine in the audience would shout, "That was righteous, brothers!"

      Yes, some of them just freak out, but i dont blame them..Music from the 60's 70's and 80's, they never heard of it! All they get is rap, hip hop and kpop!..So when they hear real music with instrumentaion and performers who can actually sing..They never heard it before!..And 'soul' being done by white guys?..Stun! Shock Amaze!..And have you noticed, probably have, that the main percussion instrument here, is not drums or base, but a tamborine!..But, all these young people hearing actual music and live performance, will start a possible revolution as they demand more and more of it!...Rapcrappers beware!

    People wonder why there's so very few groups around that sound like this.
    There's lots of reasons.
    But one of them is how guy's like this were willing to do the work, take the risk.
    The amount of small venues and low paying gigs they did before they got signed is something most people don't understand.
    And so many on their own before they finally got discovered as a pair.
    And the amount of equally talented guys and gals we'll never know about, but who did the work as well and just didn't have that timing and plain luck.
    It's a huge risk.
    And you'll only do it if you love what you're doing, so even if you don't 'make it' you enjoyed the hell out of the ride anyway.
    That's what doesn't exist anymore.
    People just want the fame.
    The thrill of performing for even a few people is no longer felt.
    It's become only about the money and fame.

    Righteous Brothers were Bill Medley (deep voice) and Bobby Hatfield (high voice). Great blue-eyed soul singers of the 1960s. Another popular tune they (Bobby Hatfield) sing is "Unchained Melody". Ndisa, if you want to continue to listen to this type of music, I recommend Boz Scaggs' "Look What You've Done to Me".

    Nobody would believe it now, but this music popular on the am car radio channels. You couldn't find a freeway entrance without hearing it, like a probe from the outer limits. Science fiction was so big in those days, and this was contrapuntal and discordant, in a subtle way. Imagine listening to this, while you were watching the X Files.

      @@rosiered3403 ....Additionally, Cher actually performed in a number Phil Spector's biggest hit songs as a back up singer. Of course, these were the days before "Sonny and Cher"

    • @Emperor-Wild-Man
      @Emperor-Wild-Man 4 года назад +2

      @Dan Thomas ...I do remember the story that Cher was a teenager when she met Sonny who was many years her senior. Your question intrigued me so I have to google. Your comment that Sonny was working for Spector as he was making all those hits is true. Sonny first met Cher in a LA "coffee shop" when Cher was 16 in 1962. So Sonny did not meet Cher as they both worked for Spector. Base on dated events, it may have been Sonny that got Cher the gig to be a backup singer for Spector.

    • @laminage
      @laminage 4 года назад +2

      Yes. She and Sonny Bono made their Bones working under Phil Spector. They got their name when they were performing at a Naval Base in San Francisco, Ca, and the Audience that had most Black Soldiers clapped and aid "That's Righteous Brothers!" and that's rest is History. In reality a Philadelphia DJ coined the Phrase "Blue Eyed Soul" that is a State that has alot of Singers of their genre. Len Barry (123) Vickie Sue Robinson (Turn The Beat Around) (RIP), Karen Young (Hot Shot). They are not Brothers, The Tall On is Bill Medley and the Blond is Bobby Hatfield. It was one of the first Songs That Phil Spector Produced after the British Invasion and it is next to River Deep Mountain High by Ike & Tina Turner one of his greatest achievements. It is also next to Stairway To Heaven one of the most played songs in the History of The Radio in North America. It was later covered by Hall & Oates. If you can listen to "Soul & Inspiration". Bill admitted he was heavily influenced by Ray Charles. The Show you see them on is Shindig a Popular Rock & Roll Show fro the 1960's. The Ladies on The Left were The Blossoms and the Fellows on the Right were The Wellingtons while the "Other" Ladies were the Dancers. They alos made History be being on the very first Cover of The Teen Magazine Tiger Beat in 1965, and in 1970 it created the First African American Teen Magazine Right On. The Co-Owner Lloyd Thaxton also had a Show that a lot of R & B Singers performed on.

    “The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 88 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary.
    “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin” was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century.
    "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965. Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby's use of "Runs" is brilliant. He is the master of the technique and started the trend. 7 notes just to say the word "I".... Their name came when they did a show in a smaller venue and a black man told them…. You two Brothers are Righteous. They created the sound and set the table that all Soul Music fed from for decades to come.
    In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin’ Feelin‘" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......

    *Rick Astley " Never Gonna Give You Up" is another GREAT 80s singer with a voice that YOU WOULD NOT expect to come from him. Do a video on him. You will enjoy it*
    *And" Take on Me" by Tears for Fears*
    Both classic 80s hits
    *Also BEST NATIONAL ANTHEM ever sung was in 1996 when Whitney Houston sang it* MY WORD she sings like no other and she was stunning.. RIP Whitney!
    This is what us Gen X and older generation mean when we say they don't make and sing songs like they used to. They were just as good live as they are recorded. It's becoming a lost art... i would personally say it's still found in more country music these days then any other genre of music, although you can still find it in all if you search. Also you could/can listen to it with the whole family with out worrying what word is going to come next

    Hello! In those days most of the songs especially the slow ones were about Love, falling in Love, the first time in Love etc. It is Great music to listen to. If you have time listen to "Lover's Concierto" I think you will enjoy it. Thank You for the Video!😁😎😷😀

    Excellent reaction. You should react to Pentatonix. They’re an acapella group and have fantastic music.

    React to "The sound of silence" by Simon and Garfunkel and "The sound of silence" by Disturbed. Back to back.

    My comment is this Not only is this a fun video , but this may have a defusing effect on some people as regards black white relations in America, All the best, Like Michael Jackson said " Everybody singin Its beautiful!"

    Romantic music, somerhing today's youth lack by far. That makes it for a tragic and failed relationship wit anyone. Besides, these songs don't degrade women but hold them in a special place.
