While serving in the Marine Corps a black marine named Red with red hair and freckles dubbed a cassette for me of "The Righteous. Brothers" someone appropriated this cassette because I would play it whenever I got the chance; whilst on leave from Jerusalem I went to a shopping mall in South Seattle and went into a music store to replace the cassette. A young salesgirl gave me a cassette with twowhite guys on the cover; I stated I didn't think this was the right cassette; she said that I could listen to it and set me up in a booth with a cassette player and headphones. It was the right one, but I told her for the longest time I thought "The Righteous Brothers" were a black group. God Bless Red for introducing me to this phenomenal duet; "See That Girl" is one of my all time favorites. Sorry to be so long winded, but you guys gave me back a great memory. Love to you both 💖
Thanks for the memories 💞 it was just a few minutes of the time of my older sister.... She's gone now and I thank you for reminding me of a time long gone... 😌
I was there when the Righteous Brothers came on the scene in High School. They was right up there with Motown, Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions and many other greats. Man, does that take me back and I get a kick out of seeing you youngster reacting to them as we did in 1964 and 65. We'll never have this talent again.
This was way before vocoders, pitch correction, auto-tune and all the snazzy stuff the industry uses now. Just think, people ACTUALLY REALLY HAD TO BE ABLE TO SING back then. Maybe they would do some re-takes if their voice wasn't up to it on a recording day, but you at least would know it really was their actual voices because their sound was repeatable when they were LIVE on stage!
This was the studio version synced up to the video of a live performance. They could definitely sing live, though, as evidenced by Bobby's performance of unchained Melody on The Andy Williams show. It's the one reactors usually do with the pink jacket and red tie.
The Righteous Bros. were before my time. As a teen I did get into 60s and 70s rock. But the older I've gotten, the more I appreciate these two men also. Amazing vocals.
Been my Wife and my Song for almost 43 years. I Grew up in Anaheim and My Father lived on the same street as Bobby Hatfield. They played as kids and Graduated from Anaheim High with him. My Wife and I saw them many times. They played the Orange 🍊 County Fair for years. 🎤🎼🤙🏽👍🏽😎
Man, Bobby Hatfield... he's a beautiful man with a beautiful voice! And speaking of beautiful!!! ASIA! WHOO! YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL!!! And that laugh and smile...❤❤❤ Absolutely gorgeous!
This is called blue-eyed soul. These guys were the best. Bobby Hatfield with his beautiful tenor voice & Bill Medley with his deeper voice. They were magic together. And remember this is done live. No auto-tuning crap like today. And the songs had meaningful beautiful lyrics.
Bobby's vocal control-(and all the rest he did w/his voice)-made my toes curl and gave me the same chills everyone else gets when he hit his high notes! What a treasure to the ears AND soul!
The Righteous Brothers (who are not really brothers) performed for some "brothers" in the marines in the early 60s.....before they had a name....and afterwards some of them said "you guys are some righteous brothers!".....and so their epic journey began!
There best song .it doesn't get any better than this.the back up,is outstanding.the great Bobby Hatfield who is the tenor and bill medley the baritone who still performs.bobby is gone but not forgotten.blue eyed soul.
I've been listening to these guys for 60 years and they never grow old. They had so many hits. My favorites are "Go Ahead and Cry", "Rock and Roll Heaven", "Just Once in my Life", "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" and of course "Unchained Melody". Thank you for reacting to this music. RIP Bobby
This was my late brother's favorite song...he passed when he was 20, 54 years ago. So hearing it dredges up some emotion. This is the pinnacle of blue-eyed soul.
I think the big difference about music today and back then is the respect that was given to women. The songs were heartfelt emotions that made a woman feel important and special. It was men being man enough to speak from the heart without fearing a backlash from their male friends. There were so many beautiful love songs that had the words all women wanted to hear. It was like each song was meant especially for them .
There's a reason these songs are timeless classics. The Righteous Brothers were such a great duo because of the baritone of Bill Medley and the gorgeous tenor of Bobby Hatfield. They used to call this kind of music used to be called "blue-eyed soul". I'm so happy that you two are continuing on your journey into different genres of music.
After sixty years, Bill & Bobby's songs still melt women's hearts, and they will still be melting women's hearts sixty years from now. Romantic, heartfelt love is timeless.
There are spots in time that define life and defy hate. You cannot listen to these 'brother's' and feel any sort of hate . Listening to them gives a feel of life, happiness and pure love. Easy listening. Thank you for playing this.
@@catwhisperer9489 They were performing in the south, could not decide on what to call themselves....they were singing in a joint and some black guys stood up and said "Brothers!! Absolute pure talent and phenomenal vocals with NO GIMMICKS & NO AUTO-TUNE!!! Shout out to The Righteous Brothers & to you guys for this reaction!!! Much love & respect!!!
“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 73 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’’ was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965 Andy Williams Show . Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby’s use of “Runs” is masterful. He created the style and set the table that all others have fed off of for decades. 7 notes just to say the word “I” is melodic brilliance. Their name came from doing a show near a marine base in So Calif and a black marine said to them…. You two guys are Righteous Brothers. In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......
I’ve seen many reactions to this song and others from the Righteous Brothers, and there is a common thread. The guy will be thinking, wow nice song. While the woman is having her insides microwaved into mush. They somehow had a knack for knowing exactly how to melt women; with the lyrics, but also with perfect delivery. They knew exactly when and how to either go soft-spoken or to add a little growl. How to add just a little catch in the their voice, bite their lip. It’s uncanny, and it’s unfair to the rest of us mortal men.
I can't begin to tell you just how incredibly good the music was in the 60s and 70s. And there was so much of it being cranked out by the artists and the record companies in those days. I'm 65 now, and when this song was on the charts, I was only 9 or 10 years old. And it wasn't just Rock, it was all genres that were just tearing it up in the 60s. R&B, Country Western, Pop, Blues, and on and on. What great memories from my youth. I wish the young people today, had the same experience we had with such great music. The well has run dry, I guess.
I'm 68 yrs old and couldn't agree w/you more about the quality of the music starting then through the 80's. WHAT GIFTS to have lived and been young in that era!
These were my parent's musical idols! I grew up hearing their songs and have been numbed to how amazing they were! Thank you for reacting to this amazing duo!
Righteous Brothers are just absolute musical perfection and joy. Their music just makes you feel good. Definitely react to Unchained Melody, this is the song that gave Bobby Hatfield iconic status. Although the Righteous Brothers didn't write it, the way Bobby sang it he made it his own. If you are a vocalist and want to cover Unchained Melody, you have to sing it the way Bobby did because that is considered standard now. The song is a challenge for vocalists that attempt this song, Bobby raised the bar on this one.

I get in bed and start watching your videos and don't get to sleep until 1am or so! This song is my favorite Righteous Bros song...even more than You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling. But I have to say my favorite video of yours, by FAR, is "Paradise By the Dashboard Light". First of all that song, to me, is one of the greatest songs ever written. It has always been one of my all time favorite songs. But your video is priceless! The reactions both of you had had me laughing so hard!
