They sure did! He had women so shook they would throw their panties and phone numbers on the stage. That song was written for him. He was married for over 57 years but in his heyday it's said, by him, that he slept with over 250 women. Once his wife found out she stood by him. She had a don't ask, don't tell" policy. She didn't go on the road with him either.

This version of the song still sends chills thru me. Tom is one of the greatest singers of our time. This was a live performance with his natural talent and voice. This was decades before there was such a thing as auto tune, or any computerized special effects that they routinely add to the vocals these days. I also love to see the natural reactions of women as they are twitterpated by this man and his raw talent.

Tom had many hit songs, but this one is my favorite. This is a live performance from his TV Show in 1967. Tom is the definition of a "crooner". At his concerts, some of the women on the front rows would remove their panties and toss them on the stage. He and Elvis were very good friends, and Elvis called Tom "The Voice". Coincidentally, Tom can be seen today (at 81) on "The Voice UK". And he can still belt them out. His signature song is Delilah: ruclips.net/video/MIIU9xkGAMs/видео.html This is from the Ed Sullivan Show and it's in color. In this one Asia, you can see just how pretty he is, and how great his hair is. He was knighted by the Queen in 2006, so he is now Sir Tom Jones.

1969 I was visiting family in Los Angeles with my family. My aunt told me and my sisters that Tom Jones was appearing at the Greek theater in Los Angeles while we were there. My uncle who had a lot of connections because the concert was sold out, got us three tickets! Oh my God talk about heaven.
About 15,000 people there he basically did all his hits for two hours in every song was better than the last nobody sat down and all the women were swooning because Tom had it! I was 20 years old, one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen and I’ve been to a lot of concerts. It’s a story I tell my family now and the memories are very vivid of that performance. Tom had it all.

@@nazeemconner1553 What does that prove? The one drop rule- is STUPID, RACIST, and very incorrect! I never heard he had any black ancestors, which does not matter! I could have a black or Chinese ancestor, in my family tree, does that make me black or Chinese- no it does not! It just means I have some other race/ethnicity in my family tree- that is all! Not all black people have rythem, or sing skilfully- I can sing soulful, without being black! Do I need to be Chinese, or Japanese, to be good in the martial arts- I don't think so☺

The incredible Tom Jones, perhaps the greatest solo blue eyed soul singer of all time. Tom had a lot of great songs, "It's Not Unusual", "Delila", "What's New Pussycat" etc. But my favorite from him was his cover of "I Who Have Nothing". Another passionate song of heartbreak. I had the pleasure of seeing Tom Jones in his NYC debut in the middle sixties. I still remember him doing "It's Not Unusual" that day.

"Suave"--yet a man from a solidly working class background born the son of a coal miner. Everything he has was earned through hard work and talent. Although a notorious womaniser, he was married at 16 and remained married for nearly 60 years until his wife's death.
Tom was one of the biggest names in the industry in the late 60s. His television show ran in the UK, US and around the world earning him some $9 million over three years--worth an awful lot more in today's terms. He became a close friend of Elvis Presley sharing a lot of time together in Vegas where both were in residencies.
Tom's biggest hits include Delilah and The Green Green Grass of Home.
He is still performing and recording new material as well as appearing as judge/coach on the UK edition of 'The Voice'. He was also knighted by Queen Elizabeth so is actually Sir Tom Jones now!

And...this is a live performance...no lip synching, no auto tune, no mistakes, just a man that knows how to sing!

A legend who still keeps giving today. This was in the 1960s and he sounds as good in the 2021s! Back in the 60s we didn't label the type of songs; they were either popular and in the Charts or not. Tom married his childhood sweetheart when he was only 16 years old - and despite numerous affairs (including one with Miss USA when she was briefly Miss World) he stayed with his wife until her death a few years ago.

I hate it when the reviewers try to put music they play into a category when that is not how it was presented at the time...it was all in the same genre or it was opera.

Tom can be seen today (at 82) on "The Voice UK" as a judge. Coincidentally he sings the same song on the show with the son of the man who wrote it.

That's the best performance in every aspect that I've ever seen.

You have to react to his song I Who Have Nothing. Sir Tom Jones was knighted by the queen in 2006. 81 years old and he can still blow and he is a coach on the Voice UK.

He has many TV shows, about 10 years worth, that you can see. Sir Tom Jones is a judge on "Britons got Talent" show. There are times he stand at his judge booth and sings with the contestants. He is amazing.

He's the souliest black sounding white welsh person in the world - 80 odd and can still sing.
I'm Welsh and proud of Tom, but we are the joke of the UK because the English are over powering, my godfather is a Jamaican black guy, sadly passed away, but Cardiff where I am from is massively diverse and multi cultural, London could probably claim for more multiculturalism.
We had sailors from all over the world come here and settle - a large Somali population, lots of North Africans, and we had a large Jewish contingent along with a ton of mosques - just proud to have all cultures around me.
    Sorry for rambling, nice vid.

Tom Jones (by the actions of Queen of England his legal name is now Sir Tom Jones) is 82 years old now and yet he still does concerts every once in a while including in Las Vegas and he has been and is the lead judge on The Voice UK and at times sings while waiting on another contestant and the entire crowd and all the other judges go absolutely crazy good listening to him.

He does a full load of concerts, not just once in a while, but he stopped playing Las Vegas maybe 20 years ago. He felt it was ruining his recording career and diminishing his vocal reputation with the panty throwing.

The song is a soul ballad. Brilliantly sung by Tom Jones. I was hoping for a more in depth view on the song. The length he held some of those notes. His amazing range and easy voice power. Then there is that orchestra in the background providing beautiful transitions. In trying to think of who else has the capability of singing that song.

He belongs to a lonnnng list of people, in a genre all to themselves: "Blue-Eyed Soul" (that doesn't mean they had blue eyes; just, that they're white). The list, pretty much, started with the Righteous Bros., Tom, Elvis, Janis Joplin---all the way up to Adele, Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, and now Angelina Jordan (who, if you don't know, was singin' Soul and the Blues, at 6-years old), just to name a few.

I'd say this song is early r&b/soul/pop music. The genres evolve and over time, modern versions now have little in common with the way it sounded before.

Tom and Elvis were great friends watching each other at Vegas. Elvis still wins performer all around looks, talent, charisma costume, ............need I go on?
