A comment down below states that Bobby was singing in falsetto. Not so. Bobby was a "counter-tenor," meaning that he could go from a baritone to a G5 0r 6. Just watch him closely, no strain, no sweat. Watch his live performance on the Andy Williams Show, 1965. Falsetto is forced and strained. Bobby's facial expressions are relaxed, no sign of stress, just the beauty of his voice and emotions.

About their voices… Bobby was a first tenor with counter-tenor range. He had 3 and 1/2 Octaves on his recorded songs (B2 to Eb6) but Bill commented they never did figure out how high he could go. Bill is a bass baritone and could sing up into tenor range - around 2 and 1/2 octaves. He had a lyric bass voice - he could sing in that range, not just reach the notes. Their voices were so good together in part because of Bobby’s outstanding ability to harmonize.

Bobby’s high notes are a result of a 4-5 octave voice, not falsetto. There’s no strain when he goes really high, like he does in Unchained Melody.

"Soulful," huh? that is why they are called "Blue-Eyed Soul"! You have got to listen to, react to.. (Your my soul and inspiration) by them! Great reaction to them! I love them, always will. The tall one is Bill Medley, the blond one who passed away is Bobby Hatfield. RIP Bobby!!

Bobby Hatfield is the one that sang Unchained Melody! Bill Medley is the man with the deep voice! They did solo songs throughout their careers as well as singing together! 😁

Bill Medley has deep voice, Bobby Hatfield falsetto voice. The greatest duo ever. Been a big fan since the beginning 1964. Bill is still performing at age 81 with Bucky Heard. Bobby Hatfield passed in 2003. Sadly missed by many!

Not falsetto, Bobby was a counter tenor, the high notes were his natural head voice. Barry Gibb was a falsetto.

@@rubydazzler OH, Stand to be corrected. To me no one can sing Unchained Melody like him. Actually the studio and live versions are somewhat different but magnificent to me..

There's a video (not on the internet thank God) of me, my best friend and her dad lip synching this at Universal Studios Orlando when it first opened... Clair Mel Express!!
The movie Top Gun really brought this song back out.
