    You sir, are a master! I have not seen one other youtube video where a surface device's screen is removed without breaking it. Hats off to you.

    I watched a couple of other videos that never mention the difficulty of the task, making it seem like a no-brainer. A new battery would be nice, but I'm not willing to risk the computer. After watching this video, I put my Surface back in the docking station and will use it from now on plugged in. End of story. Thanks so much!!

    Can confirm, this is definitely possible. I popped the screen out of a SP3 for a battery replacement and it can be done without breaking it. I think the key is using a hot air rework station to put heat right on the edge of the digitizer vs a heat gun which puts a wider-area heat down on the glass. I put the SP3 face-down on my 3D printer bed and cooked at 80C for about 15 mins. Then I used a thin metal opening tool (iSesamo) to get under a corner. From there, I would advance the tool to the point I would encounter a tiny bit of resistance, stop, and apply heat to the next area until the opener moved, indicating the adhesive released on its own.
    I chased the tool with playing cars to keep the adhesive from sticking back down.took about 15 mins to use heat to release the adhesive and a follow-up test showed the screen and digitizer work perfectly afterward.
    For those wanting to do it, use a hot air rework station and don't be afraid of applying a fair amount of heat right on the edge of the glass. LET THE HEAT DO THE WORK, NOT THE PRY TOOL.

    Sir you are a wizard, honestly you are the only one so far I saw using a professional method to crack it open, all other videos I see them using thick metal objects and rushing around the screen then blame it on how thin it is.

    Bravo sir. While you were in there did you happen to look at the fans or heatsink for excessive dust? I basically use mine like a laptop and the fan is constantly running. I'm not sure if it's because the wimpy video card has to work hard to display more data to 2 additional monitors or if the system is clogged with dust. Trying to figure out the best approach to dealing with it. Cheers

    I used a hair dryer and Pokémon cards and got all the way around until the last corner and the glass broke haha. I think I just rushed a little bit cause I was coming up to the end. I needed to replace the whole screen anyways since it's a faulty Samsung screen on a surface pro 4, I just wanted to see if I could get it off without breaking as well and your guide was really handy thank you.

    the key to this, or any other screen is patience, getting the right amount of heat to melt the glue and the right spudger is key, good job.

    • @azureuscomputerrepairs
      @azureuscomputerrepairs  2 года назад +2

      Exactly. Different batches of glue have different melting temperatures. Start at a corner IMO and find the temperature to lift the corner. Be patient and take much time and care.

    I have not finished watching the video but at ~3:56 when you first touched the screen it looked like the backlight of the display flicker indicating that perhaps the cables underneath where faulty. Watching the rest of the video now....

    • @steveod3198
      @steveod3198 3 года назад +1

      Just fixed one like this screen was coming of because battery was swollen. More then likely need to remove screen replace battery and then reapply adhesive and set the display back down. Shouldn't be to hard with heat patience especially if screen is lifting to give you a starting point. Hardest part is getting started without it cracking

    Mine was working just like so, had the heat cranked up and everything was going well, was under one corner at the start, got all the way across to the other corner just fine and the next corner broke, was being delicate as I could and nothing was being forced and it broke, dang.. just a few cracks went down diagonally across the face of the screen and then now I can’t get it up anymore without the cracks getting worse and it’s still all suck together and I don’t want pieces breaking out of the corner so I guess it’s either new screen or I send this battery back , and use it with low battery capacity or buy new
