2019-2020 Finally can afford these. Now I have two 128 GB surface 3s and a 256 GB Surface Pro 3 so I can keep my desktop just for gaming. Also easier to take with me to my moms than my laptops.
I think who wants more mobility Surface 3 is best for this. And for me, I need a device just for e-mailing, office programs mainly excel (I don't use big datas just simple excel files) and web browsing, watching videos time to time (and 1080p is fair enough for me), sometimes little gaming. And the crucial thing is having Micro USB charging on Surface 3, that is awesome, you can feed it anytime, anywhere with a powerbank, not need to find a wall plug in an airport or bus or in a park etc...
I bought the surface 3 but returned it for the surface pro 3 as I wanted a bigger screen. Beautiful screen. Great back lit key board as well. Very happy with the pro 3. The surface 3 was great as well but the screen is a little small. Overall microsoft has made a great product. Hopefully they can up their game on their phone in the future.
I've been researching both the surface 3 and pro 3 recently trying to figure out the best fit for me. My current laptop is slowly dying and I will need a replacement for my last year of university. I don't use my laptop for anything too heavy besides research. Other than that it's videos and light browsing. I'm sending between the upgraded surface 3 or spending $100 more and getting the entry level pro 3. Both are intriguing but money is always a key factor. Ooh decisions, decisions. Thanks for the comparison!
Thunder E you guys over at Bored at work are awesome!!! I actually purchased the surface 3 after watching several review videos and doing some research and truthfully I didn't last two days with it before I returned it for the surface pro 3 which i am EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH!!! Here's a few things to consider when deciding between these two devices. 1. eMMC vs SSD the benchmarks on the surface 3 were pretty bad. The entry level surface pro 3 houses a solid state hard drive that is fast and reliable to say the least. eMMC storage is essentially an sd card built to be used as a hard drive. yes it's the same type of storage card you'd use in your cell phone. 2. charge times...I thought i'd get a kick out of being able to use any of the various chargers I have laying around at work and home to charge my S3 but truthfully waiting for the surface to charge while using it was RIDICULOUSLY SLOW. The proprietary charger of the pro3 is excellent!!! Quickly charges the device even while in use and when the pro3 is in sleep mode it's almost unreal how quickly this device charges. 3 screen real estate...the surface 3 is "cute" but the screen and usability of the PRO3 is outstanding!!! i'm not saying that the surface 3 is unusable but by comparison the screen on the pro3 allows for a much more immersive(did i spell that right?) and more accurate touch screen experience. 4. CPU/processors ....Microsoft stated that the surface 3's processor could accomplish around 80% of the speed of the core I3 on the entry level pro3. truthfully that has not been my experience. There are clear performance differences in these two devices that definitely reflect their price differences. I had the surface 3 with 4gb of ram but because the processor doesn't change between the 2gb version and the 4gb version the performance isn't that much improved(multitasking is a bit improved with the 4gb version but not by much) Well that's my two cents hope it helps.
biggo75 Thanks!!. You are right on all those points. I see the Surface 3 as the entry netbook class. that allows you to do more work and not break the bank.
PLEASE READ Hello 1st off i believe you have done a fantastic review, cover some questions I've had. But being an artist, my MAIN concern is the pen. Today i went to the Microsoft store and tested out both of these devices when it came to writing, and drawing. It was nothing fancy, just a few strokes, writing a name, and drawing a line pretty slowly. But i realized that the Surface 3 did a better job with the pen than the Surface PRO 3. So i hope you don't mind me asking, but could you test it out again, pay close attention and then tell me if there really is a difference or not? Because the answer to this question will effect my entire purchase.
I have the surface 3 and its pretty good. High memory games like minecraft are laggy . Very portable and very light. One problem is it heats up very quickly. No fan so you can only get a hour or two at a time until it overheats. Overall I like the surface 3, has everything u need.
+alpharunner3268 I've used fanless metal devices before(the iPhone 5S, HTC One M8, IPad mini 4,) and when doing a heavy workload on those, they can get almost top hot for the touch. Like one time in had my 5S plugged in, was listening to music, and was simultaneously texting browsing Facebook, and browsing a forum and after about an hour it was almost too hot to hold. my surface 3 never gets more than warm even when the CPU is at 100%.
you can find manufacture and certified refurbished base models of the base surface pro 3 for $530 - $600. For its versatility and superior power, the pro 3 would be the better value if you can find it at that price.
i really hope they will move the windows button to the left sometime cuz u can just swipe in from the right to have the windows button on the left. i had a toshiba encore and it was kinda annoying
Question. It's 12/12/2016. So I was perusing ebay and noticed that, in general, a used surface 3 goes for about the same as a used surface pro 3 even though it has less ram, less memory, and less power. Even some pro 1's and 2's go for cheaper than the surface 3 even though they are the same size and more powerful. While I do expect the surface 3 to be more expensive than the preceding RT's, why is it THIS much more expensive? And these are the used models. The new ones are even more expensive. Is there some reason for this that I'm not seeing?
what if you already have a pro 4 but want a smaller, lighter tab for travel - for basic use - reading, watching movies, etc.? would you recommend getting the surface 3 or another device?
Hi. I'm looking into a surface device for animation and drawing... Which would you prefer. I will do typing too, but keyboard doesn't matter because my hands are really small. Thanks!
So the internet app that came with the SP3 isnt their anymore and so I'm using chrome but it has to many ads and popups. Anyway to get the internet app that came with it or how can i block popups on chrome? Also I tried adding an extension to chrome bur crashes every time ad tired looking up the internet app in the windows store but no luck.
I just bought the Pro 3 and I love it but have you experienced problems with the latest update? After the update, the Pro 3 wouldn't wake from sleep (only fixable by doing a hard shut down), would randomly freeze and finally wouldn't turn on. I had to refresh it to get it to work again. I was wondering what everyone was doing re: the latest update - just don't install it I suppose?
hi..I have question please.can I download program like office word 2010 .exe on the surface 3 pro from dvd drive...thank you and forgive my bad english
Hey. Can the devices differ between Hand and pen? Looking for a convertible or 2 und 1 device where handwriting notes would be very important for university
I'm thinking about getting the regular Surface 3 for school, and maybe some light gaming on the side (Minecraft, older game system emulators, etc.) and I was wondering how powerful this thing would be. I'm not expecting the regular one to be super great, but would it run a GameCube emulator without any problems?
I want a Surface just on the basis of being able to comfortably edit videos on a tablet-like device so I guess the Surface Pro 3 is for me. I wonder how well it performs with Sony Vegas and if the render times are good.
I plan on getting either the pro 3 or surface 3 and my parents want to get the surface 3 cause it's more affordable but the thing I want to know is which one will do me better? I am a freshmen in high school.
I'm a sophomore and I went with the surface 3. It's cheaper. Very nice. Since its smaller it is more portable so I can bring it to school. I like it a lot, but that's my opinion.
if you are a high school student you should be going with surface 3 instead of pro, look at both the sides of the coin, your budget plus requirements and when you have you own money you can chip $1000 on a better option
Hey Thunder E! Thanks for making this video, I've been thinking about getting a Surface. I heard you mention it briefly but I'd thought I'd ask, would you recommend the regular Surface 3 over the Pro for someone running a small business?
Alex Hernandez i would say it depends on the business you're running. To be quite honest the surface pro 3 has been a major workhorse for me at my regular job(Technology coordinator at an elementary school) and translates well into any of my side jobs as a consultant. I'd actually purchased the surface 3 initially and when i started working with it I quickly realized that i would need more horsepower, screen real estate, and functionality and returned it for the entry level surface pro 3. I have not been disappointed!!! Since you're going to spend some money you might as well get the better of the two products and I would say that's the SP3.
biggo75 Do you find that the the Sp3 is manageable as a tablet? Or is the weight/size to much for just the "media consumption" that tablets are primarily meant for. I like the idea of the horsepower behind the SP3 as as size for work stuff, but I'm wondering if the smaller size might be more ideal for normal tablet functions? (also having the mini-usb port to charge is a bonus.. I would like to the SP4 in both the 12" and 10.8" sizes, or have better upgrade options for the S3.
To be quite honest I'd still say the SP3 is the better of the two options. I've found that it's not nearly as cumbersome as I initially feared it might be by comparison to the S3. The mini port is an advantage in terms of providing OTG connectivity but the slow battery charging of that mini absolutely killed me, especially charging it while in use. It still comes down to comfort levels and purpose of purchase. Ultimately I'd endure the larger SP3 knowing that it can handle pretty much anything I used to throw at my Mac book pro and high end heavy weight laptops.
Hi there! Nice vid! I wonder if there is a big difference with the pen experience. I would like to use a surface for drawing (sketchbook pro) but I don't know if the pro version is necessary or not. what do u think?
Nice job dude! I've been stuck between the 2. I can get the Surface for 319 or the pro for 379 and I was worried about the bulkiness of the pro and I really think I'm going to go with the regular surface. Thanks
Great comparison review. Though I still need some help in pick the right Surface for me. Program wise I look to use Visual Studio, along with Photoshop and Illustrator that I need some opinions on how well the Surface 3 may be able to handle these programs. As I really like the thought of charging the 3 via a portable power bank. It is my first choice, though I can be change my mind base on performance. Thanks
As a soon to be college student. Would the surface pro 3 i3 be good for networking administration it's a total of 28 credits each 3 credits a class so I don't believe it will be hardcore complicated computer work, but the reason Im asking about this specific product is because I would like to have a tablet to play around with like reading books and watching Netflix and Hulu but still be able to do what I need in school including the pen that works with onenote. Any help here
The surface 3 is a great tablet 4 sure. But why dont get a lenovo yoga tablet 2 with Windows? Offers same functionality with keyboard for 370$! Microsoft has to bundle the keyboard to justify the price.
thanks man. perfect review. helped a lot, I am going to university soon and was thinking of upgrading to surface 3. have you noticed if there is good autocorrect on the surface 3? I hate it on this computer, in google docs it does capitalize I's or the start of sentences. any comments on the autocorrect abilities on the surface 3??
nice review!! I own my surface 3 128gb for AT&T with unlimited data and I love it. I have a question: do you think surface pro 3 is more vulnerable to dust and overheating since it has cooling fan vents?
Loved the video but wanted to know can you use a surface pro 3 keyboard on a usual surface 3? And also is there any videos youve done on it? People say you can use it but there is a size difference so i really wanna know
I was going toward the surface 3 until one simple function. The kick stand. I am disappointed that the surface 3 only has 3 adjustable levels compared to the very movable stand on the surface pro 3. Also the fact that you don't have to buy the pen separately with the surface pro. I will be waiting to see what the surface pro 4 has in store for us.
Benchmark tests show that there is little difference between the core i5 and i3 of the surface pro 3's. If anything the i5 produces more heat when encoding with less battery life during demanding applications. The i3 in most tasks was shown equal in power.
Psh! I like the surface pro 3 I'm still in the beginning of the video but does it have to be that color key board? This is a very silly question but my favorite color is red :)
Paolo Bonaccorso I'm not sure if Best buy still has this deal, but I saw that the surface 3 type cover (not the pro 3) was like 59.99 and not 129.99 like the pro 3. might wanna check it out soon. hope that helps
I know I want the surface 3 for sure but now that surface pro 4 was announced it looks amazing and I figure since I need the 128gb and 4ram model with both wifi and 4g LTE that's $700 plus the $129 keyboard and a pen that is $59.99 in total for all that is 888.98 so pretty much almost $900 and for a surface pro 4 you only need to buy whatever model you need cause it includes the pen in the box and then a keyboard and then your set which in total it's like $1030 or around that. I have heard that for sure the surface 3 is better than the pro 3 and I've heard jag the pro 4 is very similar to the pro 3 and he only difference is the new keyboard and the pen. So I don't know which I should get the pro 4 or the surface 3?
Don't know why they don't have this available in black or dark gray color. Since these tablets are quite portable and one lugs it around everytime, it will be prone to smudges, dirt and stains, so a darker color would have been more practical. Also on a marketing standpoint, why didn't they use their MS colors (red, blue, green, and yellow-orange) for the keyboards? 4.bp.blogspot.com/-VFSFFWLeEU4/UcK1rvzp9SI/AAAAAAAAAx0/l8k7ASYuycc/s1600/Microsof.png
I bought another Galaxy Tablet like a idiot lol:/ Didn't learn my lesson, nevertheless I have no regrets having both the Tab S 10.5 and Tab Pro 8.4. But can't stand the bugs Android/ Samsung is known for. That being said I would like to give Surface a GO! Think imma wait and see what Surface 4 has to offer... even though I'm super tempted to buy one NOW:D (Great review as usual by the way!)
Aarushi Vatsa Oh I have no regrets buying the Tab S 10.5 mainly because I purchased it for the Super Amoled Display! I also Rooted it so I have all the features of a Note Pro 12.2 with 4way split screen etc. But thanks for the recommendation:)
+Aarushi Vatsa I have the Note 10.1 2014 and I regret it :/ I have some bug (battery shut down fast after 35%, interferences between bluetooth and wifi , it's impossible to use a bluetooth keyboard and internet in the same time, I have an AZERTY keyboard but on the tablet it's QWERTY..). In add, multi tasking isn't soo easy as on Windows. I'm waiting for price reduction and I will buy a SP3 :)
Since rt was dropped the S3 is quite tempting. It's got a top notch Atom X7 quad core CPU. It's a pleasant size and a very fair price. SP3 will be faster but if you already have a super fast laptop/desktop, I'd point people to the S3 actually.
David Cooltions is RT no longer around? But still SP3 ;) I saw reviews from people with them and most took them straight back in store and got the SP3 instead. I'm assuming price wise its a cheaper alternative?
+Shark Babe I'm getting the surface 3 for several reasons. It is smaller and lighter making it more preferable for traveling, it is fanless making it quieter (the pro can get a little noisey), because the surface 3 uses a atom chip it saves a lot more power meaning up to another 2 hours battery life on what the pro has. I already have a powerful pc so the surface 3 seems like the sensible option.
Guys I need you to help me , I want a surface that I can watch 1080p anime in it and some light gaming and as a student I want the office experience to be smooth and I need portability and most importantly I'm gonna be staying with lots of people who have macbooks so I kinda wanna be a show off .
This thing sucks because Android has better devices for far less then the crappy I3 for less money and for the i5 or i7 you can build dual socket i5 desktop or just get a i7 extream addition.
2019-2020 Finally can afford these. Now I have two 128 GB surface 3s and a 256 GB Surface Pro 3 so I can keep my desktop just for gaming. Also easier to take with me to my moms than my laptops.
Surface pro 3 still holds up probably going to upgrade to 'surface pro 8' moment it comes out
THIS VIDEO IS SO CLOSE TO PERFECT
this is the perfect time to get one too

Yup

I think who wants more mobility Surface 3 is best for this.

Hello
1st off i believe you have done a fantastic review, cover some questions I've had.
So i hope you don't mind me asking, but could you test it out again, pay close attention and then tell me if there really is a difference or not?

never been to this channel before but just wanted to say I loved this review and also your style is great! 😂
Will the blue keyboard fit the surface 3 or not
Are you able to download things outside the app store? Like nodding tools, games, iTunes, etc.
The Pro 3 has a 5mp rear camera not 8
you can find manufacture and certified refurbished base models of the base surface pro 3 for $530 - $600. For its versatility and superior power, the pro 3 would be the better value if you can find it at that price.
does it come with a keyboard???
which is best for online school?
Is it really that I can not be focused software applications and games only by the store if I have Surface 3 ?

juffurey you can just turn it around in the meantime...
juffurey You can disable it with surface app
mikexhotmail i don't want to disable it, i want the option to switch it to the other side.
I can feel you.
Can feel you m8

I like drawing. Which is the best. Thanks I see accessing internet from surface 3 is better than from surface pro 3. Is it correct. Thanks so much
How much of an overhang is there when using the Pro 3/ Pro 4 keyboard on the 3? Does it look bad?

Patricia Fernandez it’s basically a mini laptop so it has programs not apps:
Hi there! Nice vid! I wonder if there is a big difference with the pen experience. I would like to use a surface for drawing (sketchbook pro) but I don't know if the pro version is necessary or not. what do u think?
Nice head two head Surface 3 vs. Surface Pro 3 review. I am curious about the weight difference.
i'm an animation student and i do a lot of drawing, video editing and short animated videos. which one would be best for me?
artforest probably the pro but if you’re on a budget then the three
Great video, I know you said it runs videos well but how is youtube when your only using touch, Is it easy to move switch vids

Actually more ergonomic typing is with the hands at a downward angle not upward. It is a recipe for carpal tunnel syndrome.
thanks man. perfect review. helped a lot, I am going to university soon and was thinking of upgrading to surface 3. have you noticed if there is good autocorrect on the surface 3? I hate it on this computer, in google docs it does capitalize I's or the start of sentences. any comments on the autocorrect abilities on the surface 3??
please compare between asus t300 chi and surface 3, thanks!
can the surface 3 have programs installed?
The Duo 702 yes
hey thunder great vid! Do you think I could edit videos and use an EL Gato HD60 with a Surface 3 Pro with the i3 core processor?
nice review!! I own my surface 3 128gb for AT&T with unlimited data and I love it. I have a question: do you think surface pro 3 is more vulnerable to dust and overheating since it has cooling fan vents?
probably not but its louder because of the fans
Loved the video but wanted to know can you use a surface pro 3 keyboard on a usual surface 3? And also is there any videos youve done on it? People say you can use it but there is a size difference so i really wanna know
The answer is late and you probably already know, but yes you can.
Omg
I hate it when companies make differences when it comes to screen size. Make them exactly the same in specs and give people the choice
Is the keyboard cover thing backlit?
+shut your face! Yes
Does the surface 3 run well when you use photo editing like photoshop without any lag?
It is Intel atom. And as far as u use it, does it happen?
***** Actually, the Atom in the Surface 3 has 80% of the performance of the i3 in the Surface Pro 3
Would anyone recommend this table for nursing school? If t\yes, then which would be best: the 3 or the pro 3?
Liz Lopez probably the pro if you’re gonna be in an important professional field!
Did you test the 10h battery time on the Surface 3?
FE59FE59 yep its 10 hours
Benchmark tests show that there is little difference between the core i5 and i3 of the surface pro 3's. If anything the i5 produces more heat when encoding with less battery life during demanding applications. The i3 in most tasks was shown equal in power.
Does the Surface 3 keyboard cover come with the loop for the pen?
Nope. That comes with the pen when you
Ah, okay great. :) Would you recommend the Surface 3 or the macbook air for lightweight work and some photoshop editing? :)
It does not but surface pro 3 does
I'll be going with the Pro, thanks :)
+Revillution.com no one uses the pen anyways
Can you edit video on the surface 3 too
yes
Psh! I like the surface pro 3 I'm still in the beginning of the video but does it have to be that color key board? This is a very silly question but my favorite color is red :)
The keyboard is available in many different colors to choose from. :)
Great video. One of the best concise reviews that I have seen on similar devices.
can u get Netflix on the regular 3 not the pro?
Diogo Venade thanks!
Diogo Venade how does it run? is it smooth?:)
is it possible to use the type cover for the pro 3 on the surface 3 ?
yes, it will just look funny with a keyboard bigger than the actual device
are you looking into buying the Surface 3?
+Esai Rodriguez yes i have bought it yesterday but not the keyboard
Paolo Bonaccorso I'm not sure if Best buy still has this deal, but I saw that the surface 3 type cover (not the pro 3) was like 59.99 and not 129.99 like the pro 3. might wanna check it out soon. hope that helps
+Esai Rodriguez i live in italy and the prices are very high
Can I download I tunes on this ?
Yes, you can
do you know if you can back up your iphone on this tablet?
Thank you a lot for the review :)
Good job
Can you play minecraft windows 10 really well on the 3
Dude it's Minecraft not GTA 5. That shit is light AF
Kabir Sokhi lol ok
Sapphira Hart why would you play mc on that such a waste
Henalphabet Dont judge my life choices lol
Hahaha
Excellent comparison and presentation!
God bless you.😀
Also surface you can't download iTunes and surface 3 you can so that's something to mention
+Ambassador1988 Yes you can! I have a Surface Pro 3 and it downloaded iTunes same way as a computer would...
Actually the Pro 4 starts at $1179.99 USD and the keyboard it self is around $200 I'm pretty sure
go with sp4.
+madison capalungan Does the pro 4 support 4g LTE I know the pro 3 doesn't and haven't seen anything stating that the pro 4 does either..
+Joey S currently there is no LTE model for sp4
+madison capalungan Right now on the Microsoft Store you can get just the Surface 3 with the keyboard included :)
pro seems more cumbersome to use daily driver as a tablet compared 3
I have the same race pro 3
Never heard of that.
Good comparison
Does Surface 3 run exe.?
All devices other than a Mac run .exe
At least in my experience
well my surface 2 rt doesnt run it D: im so sad
Oh, well then I'm not sure why it doesn't. Surface 3 definitely will, that one of the requirements for computers now (pretty much)
-_- really now i should of bought a surface 3 instead of 2
would microsoft add a update to allow exe programs now?
Excellent review! Gave me the information I needed to make a decision.
You should have gone for note 10.1 2014 edition its fits in your requirement sphere and is affordable
Aarushi Vatsa
Oh I have no regrets buying the Tab S 10.5 mainly because I purchased it for the Super Amoled Display! I also Rooted it so I have all the features of a Note Pro 12.2 with 4way split screen etc. But thanks for the recommendation:)
+Aarushi Vatsa I have the Note 10.1 2014 and I regret it :/
I have some bug (battery shut down fast after 35%, interferences between bluetooth and wifi , it's impossible to use a bluetooth keyboard and internet in the same time, I have an AZERTY keyboard but on the tablet it's QWERTY..).
In add, multi tasking isn't soo easy as on Windows.
I'm waiting for price reduction and I will buy a SP3 :)
I Berfer the service 3 original is smaller and lighter
Yup...
very nice review thanks
+Zahrakordi thank you. Don't forget to subscribe.
surface pro 3 is good for me
Good comparution best video thinking bro
I'm allergic to atom cores
why
+Thomas Hevinga it's underpowered
NHarry Beausang it can run games like minecraft
How is there a point buying ANY surface device? Surface pro all the way :)
Shark Babe Yeah. Price is the main advantage to the S3. I mean, the SP3 is amazing. It produces null heat. You can't improve perfection.
Good reasons but from what I read, you can't hear the fan unless your turbo boost is on and your sitting in silence.
Guys I need you to help me , I want a surface that I can watch 1080p anime in it and some light gaming and as a student I want the office experience to be smooth and I need portability and most importantly I'm gonna be staying with lots of people who have macbooks so I kinda wanna be a show off .
Touka Kirishima YOUR MOM
Get surface pro 3 if u want HD (high definition) vids. And 1080p
of course they run firefox (shit tastic) on the lesser product to make it look worse
do more vids
Oh my. Is it me or does this man have some meaty arms .__.
No, I did not notice that thank you?
This thing sucks because Android has better devices for far less then the crappy I3 for less money and for the i5 or i7 you can build dual socket i5 desktop or just get a i7 extream addition.
Great video! I subscribed! I want to test out the S3 before I decided which to purchase
