  • When considering an everyday watch in the tier perhaps not quite at OMEGA or Rolex territory, honestly the list is rather short, and for many I would argue holding out for the Rolex or OMEGA would be best, yet of the infrequent players there is one that answers the call of robustness with one of the most versatile case profiles around, the Tudor Black Bay 36 mm.

I've owned a Rolex Explorer, Datejust, and Oyster Perpetual and an Omega Aqua Terra. But I've sold them all. I prefer the BB36 blue to all of them. It has classic looks, is reasonably priced, and the dial is super legible. Plus, it is running about +1 seconds a day, which is awesome.

  • @MisterMaster4life

Owned many high end watches and believe me when I say, you can do without an in-house movement. Eta and especially a fine tuned eta is just as accurate, a hell of a lot cheaper to service and just as and sometimes even more durable. I would actually choose an Eta over an in-house movement when having the choice.

One thing I hadn’t noticed before owning is that the shield logo extends to the underside of the clasp, so if it’s a hot day and the bracelet presses against your wrist, it leaves a shield impression! Pretty cool.

Thanks for the video, Teddy. This and the comparison between the Hamilton, Sinn, and Explorer 39mm won me over. Great review and photography of the Tudor 36. Agree with the style, color, and versatility of the watch. My reasons for not having it on the watch are that I don’t see the design element need for the extended crown tube and think it just looks like the movement was too big for the case, or that the crown is not screwed in properly. And, as you said in another video, those that just want a Rolex/Omega should wait for that. Please do a review of the 124270. Like the Tudor 36, it wears larger than a traditional 36 but lots of negativity about the reduction back to 36.

I wear my Tudor Black Bay more than I do my Rolex Sub... It's subtle and doesn't draw so much attention while also being a spectacular piece. I'm really falling more and more in love with Tudor. I'm obsessed with the snowflake hands also. After looking at the Mercedes style hands on my Submariner so often, They're refreshingly beautiful to look at. Nothing cheap about the Tudor Heritage Black Bay for sure in build quality I mean.

I have owned the black dial BB36 since May 2018 and has been my daily wearer since. It is an absolute gem; the quality is absolutely top notch and it wears so comfortably on the wrist. I recently bought a new Rolex 116000 and wrote a review/comparison of both; while I absolutely love the Rolex OP36, it has made me realize what a deal the BB36 is.
It wears like a true 36mm watch, it doesn't wear larger than it should at all. Compare that to my Rolex OP36 with its maxi-case, which wears more like a 38mm watch. I love the "oversized" crown on the BB36 too, the signed "Tudor Rose" on it is a welcomed touch too.
I'm actually glad that Tudor kept the ETA movement in this to keep servicing costs down in the future and access to parts is absolutely no issue.

This and the discontinued Ranger are two that have earned my attention lately. The understated design and kind of stripped down aesthetic is a good compliment to the rest of the line. The focus hones in on the dial itself.
I don’t take issue with the snowflake hand here and I do tend to have a love hate relationship with it as a whole. The 36 looks great, I very much wish they then jumped to 38 or 38mm rather than 41.

In that I’m a watch addict I’ve been considering this watch. I’ve never connected with the Explorer. I have a B&M Clifton Baumatic on a black strap and was considering an Aqua Terra but considering my watch addiction I fear that I would want a black one, a green one, the silver one with the blue indices... and I know that over time I’d act on it.
This watch solves three problems if I select a black dial. My Baumatic is reserved as a dress option, this is used as an everyday watch and I never consider entering the Aqua Terra lineup so that one day I can buy my coveted Globemaster, and I can buy a dark brown strap for this and not purchase the new Longines Spirit with a strap. Wait! I think I’ll do that. I am a watch freek after all. 😂

Great review. Beautiful watch and I have one. Word of warning though, I have a 7.25 inch wrist and it is on the max micro adjust(if that makes sense!) I think another link is about £150!! Certainly doesn't wear small though. It's class

HODINKEE have some fantastic write ups on the Tudor Pelagos, which talk about a lot of the history and references to the past like the rotor self-winding text. Worth reading!

Applied Tudor logo looks like a very happy face 😃
I just wish that crown stuck out less. It's an eyesore and I would imagine that it would dig into the back of the hand quite a bit.
Edit: after owning this exact model for just under a year, I can confirm that that crown does NOT dig in. It's the most comfortable watch I own and is my go-to daily.

I actually prefer this watch on the Canvas nato option. It becomes even more of an anti Rolex choice as it’s a more differentiated look.

Teddy what other watches in the 36-38mm range in this price range do you suggest checking out? Love this with the black dial but not 100% on board with the snowflake hour hand. Would love to find something similar. Any thoughts?

"No risk of the jingly jangly here" Ooooppphhhhhhh!!! That made my coffee taste better,Teddy! :DDD It's gotten hella real now! Nuclear codes have been entered, the plastic cover over the red button has been removed. The IMMINENT DANGER led is blinking insistently sending diffuse red accents in the smoky air around the briefcase. The atmosphere is electric, like the feeling of witnessing a pugilist finally go for that uppercut swooshing lightning fast, landing right in the chin sweetspot leaving one splattered and weak in the knees for days!
Shots fired, I repeat, shots have been fired! No more niceguy Teddy! By next installment, all videos gonna end with a "phukerooniess" and a way, way, way, less than polite request to communicate to one's friends about the channel!
The signs have always been there, we got our warnings but we chose not to pay them any heed. The regal stage T.B. youtube channel is over, the "all bets are off, this is war, and we poison wells and set crops on fire" stage is upon us!
All you survivalists, hit the underground vaults, seal yourselves in, it's started, generals have received their orders, mission is beyond the point of no return. It's nuclear guys!
      ...
Teddy B., you're a subtle chaos agent, but if there ever was a declaration of war hidden in plain sight, I think this was it! You got my allegiance sir! :D

If they made this BB in 38, I'd prefer it over the Sinn, probably. I don't think they will ever do this. The 556 is amazing value and can go with any strap.

@@trevbarlow9719 I think they will, in 39mm and 20mm lug width, similar case to the BB'58, and I think they will offer the entire range with the in-house movement. I think the 36mm case is too small for an average wrist size, and the 41mm, too big.

As always, excellent video and great quality shots and descriptions. I would just like to ask you why you chose the blue dial and not the black one, it's probably more popular. I'm waiting for the arrival of this watch in the blue version and not having been able to try it personally, I would like to know what you prefer about the blue dial compared to the black one. Now this watch mounts the Sellita SW200-1 Top grade movement and not Eta 2824. Do you think it’s equally robust and reliable? Thanks Marco

Funny how even a year ago the thought of wearing a 36mm watch was preposterous. The BB36 in blue is absolutely the perfect everyday watch that looks great. Maybe I’m just getting old?
