- On today’s episode of The Meat Show: New Orleans, host and professional carnivore Nick Solares stopped by St. Roch’s Market, a 140 year-old market-turned-food hall, to sample the menu at Fritai, a couple-run stand drawing parallels between Creole and Haitian cuisine.

To my Haitian fellow who owns that that restaurant. You have chosen the best name (for me) for an Haitian restaurant. Because the Image of fritay matches perfectly with the idea of spreading our food all around the world. Our « bak fritay » is widely spread in our country. Hope this could be the name for an Haitian « restaurant franchise »
Congratulations fellow! God bless you
Damn that plantain and pork Sandwich looked incredible.
I am Haitian and I approve this message.
Where my Haitians at. 😍

it's nice to see the meat show and eater in general supporting small local businesses
I need some Haitian food now 🇭🇹
So much wonderful passion here for cooking. Love to see people do their own thing and be excited about it!
I'm so glad he corrected him how to say New Orleans ppl say it wrong so often
He's British, we say things different. We laugh at Americans trying to pronounce Worcestershire sauce 😂
Nick Jones its easy to pronounce, I say that not because he is British but because many ppl not from New Orleans say it wrong
+frazzled pots75 I've been pronouncing it wrong obviously, I'd prefer to blame the English tongue and not my stupidity 😏
Well it's still wrong. Kinda silly to be pedantic about something you mispronounce in the first place. The S should be silent in New Orléans
In French it would be pronounced Nouvelle ‘Or-Leonz’ so pronouncing as he did is not entirely incorrect and locals jump to correct people it’s pronounced New ‘Orleens’ instead of New ‘Orlinz’ when in fact plenty of born and raised New Orleanians pronounce it New ‘Orleenz’. All 3 are correct.
I need some haitian food in my life right now
look so good
I have to try that sandwich. I've always made a makeshift sandwich with my fried plantains, griot, and pikliz. But that looked waaayyy better.
Give me some of that Haitian fritai!😛😳
As soon as the word "slavery" gets brought up. Let me take a sip of ma drink.
Peter Bañuelos they get so uncomfortable when slavery is mentioned
I noticed it too but it's only those with the decency to be embarrassed by it.
Don't be butthurt
We love this!! And we want to welcome everyone also to come to Haiti and try our daily creole specials at Jojo Restaurant ;)
im so happy u tried our food
Awesomeness! Keep up the great work!
sin7wu video was posted 10 minutes ago. Your comment was posted 9 minutes ago. The video itself is 5 minutes long, how do you know the video is good? You haven't watched it yet.
Awesome! If I ever make my way down to La again, I definitely want to eat there.
Reminds me of the great food I ate in Haïti. I loved the street food!
I lived in St Marc for a year. 🇲🇶🇲🇶🇲🇶
Romanians, represent. Is this the first Romanian on the show?
Andrei Simionescu romanians worst than filipinos
Paul To appreciated
Classiest comeback ever
My culture's food was represented, but I would have loved to see the lady's cultural dishes also. Maybe as they expand.
Mom makes them every Saturday nights.
Loves this episode
I want to try Haitian Food but i live in Orange County, California. No Haitian Food around me 😔.
wowowow looks delicious!!! damn damn damn. keep it up
Homeboy trying extra hard to cover that hairline
Something wrong about Americans, always trying to put down others by focusing on their appearances rather than their knowledge.
HSM! ikr, they're always so negative
HSM! is caring about looks and appearance a particularly American thing?? I feel ya though... he is knowledgeable... I think dude was just trying to make a joke , but it wasn't needed, you're right
looks so good!
No Maillard reaction? jks, but great series...
In the Haitian Creole, we say Fritay. And duri kole or diri kole simply means in the Haitian Creole rice and beans or rice and peas, NOT sticky rice.
You know he wasnt raised in Haiti 😁
If you think about the literal translation he is kind of correct bc kole means stuck. Some ppl say diri avec pwa kole which is more like rice and beans
@@nicolenunya984, there's a BIG difference between "stuck" and sticky. Where I'm from in Haiti, we say duri ak pwa or duri avèk pwa.
That’s smart! That meat sandwich with the plaintains as bread kudos to him! Make a vegan version so I can come try 🙏🏾
He corrected you 😂 I’m dying 😂💀
Damn this looks so good.
that Yammy haitian foods are so delicious
Thank you for correcting him on how to say New Orleans
food looks delicious
Looks Delicious.
They are still doing good. Worth it just covered them too
Just started watching the video, but the greatest thing was the correction of the pronunciation of New Orleans. As a life long Louisianian, nothing bothers me more than when people say the name of this amazing city incorrectly!
Me looking at my future business, tho, congrats guys
I was just in New Orleans and didn’t know this was there 😳
I needcto visit this place
Love the resto's name Fritai/ Fritay. Hope to get to new orleans for a pwason woz en suace ou fri 👍🏼
They look great
Wow that looks tasty.
Haiti represent!!!😍😍😍🙏🏽
so profounding...
In Maracaibo, north-west Venezuela; that kind of "sandwitch" (between to sheets of fried mashed refried plantains) are called patacon.
Hillel Poliszuk diasporic connections! or maybe coincidence... but still cool
@@SankofaNYC Haiti and Venezuela aren't too far from each other. A lot of Haitians have migrated to Venezuela.
@@geminiqueen3754 I know where they are located... Lol... Had no idea there were a lot of Haitians in Venezuela though... Cool
I am haitian and I approve this good quality food
How can someone dislike a video like that
Where the fuck is lucas
"So profoundly porky" lol
Louisiana has the best food in America and its not even close
Not all is greasy by any stretch of the imagination. You control the portions. Such a pretentious idiotic post. If you ever lived in louisiana you would know this isn't close to most of what they eat there. I like your name though.
trey092001 it's definitely in the top 5 depending on your tastes... maybe a few other southern, BBQ, Mexican/asian influenced, or melting pots can compete
Yummy
give this man his beard back!
One Step Beyond
Mmmmmmmm griot 🇭🇹
Dang... That did indeed look good.
Tastes even better.

I am so sorry, I was born and raised in Haiti and all those look so delicious, but not really what I know as Haitian Fritay
Haitian food bon bagay 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹
Its not Kole because it is sticky its "kole ak pois" which mean rice together with beans or stuck on beans
You all forget cabrit grillé or taso goat/ fry fish

New Orleans and Haiti..New Haiti 🇭🇹
@CreoleLadyMarmalade 😂🤣
Doesn't that guy know we share food :-p
Why do I get the feeling they were actually both born in America? You develop your accent at a young age hence why Nick still sounds British.
PanaMacSpana good comment bruh!
PanaMacSpana I agree. Perhaps they just meant ethnicity-wise. Like an Italian-American from NY would say they’re Italian but of course they they will adamantly say they’re American; like “of course I’m American, but I’m Italian”. Lol
I know a lot of eastern European people about her age that came to America after the fall of the Soviet Union so it's definitely possible she was born there and immigrated with her family as a young child, hence the lack of accent
The couple eating out of the man's plate was unprofessional really but you can't really blame them there food was really good
why do I do this to myself
Miam miam
He said stick rice that's not what it means it's rice and beans
If you gonna give the people fritai, you have to give them the pikliz to go with it
looks good but anything not yellow?
megakill20 Traditionally in Haiti the rice is quite brown, which is deepened by a brown bean sauce. They also like fried goat or chicken legs, but actually I've never even seen a pig in Haiti let alone eaten pork :}
Maybe the north has more?
So yes, a lot of earthy colors, yellows, browns, and greens in Haitian cuisine
These folks are using some elements that aren't Haitian, but that's fine :}
Haitian food is so simple it can get boring to someone used to variety, so these folks are doing great work helping deliver the cuisine to the states
"drawing parallels between Creole and Haitian cuisine"? Haitian food is creole cuisine.
He means New Orleans Creole and Haitian Creole
3:33 o-o
Eva is a looker for sure and damn I want all of that fritai fare
She looks like sasha gray
Brandon Yu lol she kinda does
ur food is like mine lol
Gal Gadot 🤤
When is he going to stop using the word 'profoundly'.
Black dude looks and sounds like TriHex
🇭🇹🇭🇹
Knorrleans? What!?
Haitian pikliz is closer to coleslaw not relish,
Does he always say something positive?
He doesn't just show up somewhere and hope for the best, he goes to places that already have a reputation for having great food. 99 out of 100 times the food is exactly as excellent as he was expecting.
Haitian don't use no mango salsa
The Haitians you know. This is Haitian cuisine in America.
BOOM! Told off immediately for wrong pronunciation!
is he kevin durant?? :-)
Valerio Bettini looks absolutely nothing like him...
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Haitian cooking is based on French and African cultures... as is Louisiana’s. So, no creole and Cajun are not as Haitian based as this dude professes. That is why you see similar attributes between Haitian cooking and Cajun/Creole cooking.
