Edits and Errors:
1. Sorry for the sloppy nature of this chapter, things have been hectic around here and it's been harder and harder to find good time to record audio so recording the footage beforehand and commentating over it has proven to be the best bet
2. The audio for the Sephiroth fight is a few seconds off, sorry about that, hopefully it isn't too confusing
3. At 9:38 I meant to say Counterstance not Steadfast Block
4. So a few commenters have ran into the situation where Tifa and Barret are the ones who join, I'm still not sure why this happens but here's my suggestion if it does. Set Barret up in his healer/tank hybrid form (so Healing Carcanet, Chakra, Steadfast Block, etc). Set Cloud up how Aerith is set up in this video and set Tifa up how she is in this video but give her Gotterdammerung. When Barret arrives switch to him and start tanking Sephiroth's hits while using Cloud to counter the infusions, save Tifa's Limit for his final form and you should be good to go. This has worked for a couple people who commented below, Barret should be able to handle this fight fine, just gotta make a few adjustments.
Could you make a video going up against Top Secret without the accessory? Baphamut always gets me. And the fury rings just makes me too squishy.
I have a video on fighting the top secret, its my chapter 17 hard mode video. I dont think I used Fury ring and I def didn't use Goterdamurung. It's a bit on the sloppy side but I complete it, hopefully it helps!
Edit: So apparently I did use Fury Ring, if that approach doesnt work for you there is another accessory that buffs Str iirc (been a few months since I played so I forget what its called) just try it with that!

This guide was both extremely entertaining and brilliant in how helpful it was. I followed each chapter along with my Hard mode playthrough and had a great time, where it could have been a nightmarish slog. It's been over a year since you posted this, but I dug out my copy of the game this past week and these videos were super helpful! I remember from my first playthrough doing fire elemental + triple slash getting me through the game and it was nice to see more advanced versions of that strat. Figured out a few off branch strategies of my own (compared to yours) to get through some of the end chapters, but this was such a great walkthrough. No filler, easy to follow. Great stuff dude!

I have never or maybe once written a thank you note to a guide, but. this one finally did it. Checked my playing record any prior to using your build i have wasted over 12 hours on those 3 amigos, never even made it to Sephiroth. Fantastic guide, where the three dudes were actually done in 1 try. Sephiroth afterwards took like 10 attempts getting through the second stage, and i almost didn't kill him in the finale on my first try, but Barrett gave him some last juicy salat from the distance.
I think my issue was the lack of HP up materias. I only had 2, so making Cloud a complete tank was the right build.

I normally don't comment on anybody's stuff but I just wanted to say that I've been following this guide since chapter one and I pretty much mirrored your build through the whole 18 chapters and thank you for getting me through the hard mode because until I got that piece from pride and joy, it was hard as hell LOL but your build wasn't all super powerful and maxed out like most the other guides out there so I knew that I didn't have to go and Max everything out and spend hours of grinding before starting hard mode so I thank you for that. And I love the commentary 👍

Thank you for the tips! My game trolled me hard and first gave me Tifa then Aerith, so I had no real way of healing Cloud. When I died it accidentally hit start from beginning of series so I had to fight the whispers again! Then to top it off the last Sephiroth fight I got Aerith and then Barrett 😂 I managed to beat him in the end though lmao thanks for the help!

There is influence in the game, same as the original (i.e Golden Saucer date) but the way it is influenced is by whose side missions you do such as Chapter 3 for Tifa affection and Chapter 8 for Aerith affection but if you skip doing any of their side mission you get Barret affection. This also affects whose secret cutscene you get in Chapter 14 at Aeriths house.

On Sephiroth, i usually only go with Punisher / parry / Counterstance, while Tifa keeps using Starshower ... Aerith i only have her on healing / buffing duties, and i try to only control Cloud so that Sephiroth doesn't attack the girls. I also always only get Tifa and Aerith, heard it depends only on whoever kills more whispers during the previous fights.

You are absolutely right that last phase will absolutely fucking destroy you.
If you guys have another materia slot on Tifa's weapon, I would put pray in there. Other than Barret getting smacked around by the Harbinger super attacks, I never got too low with my health because of the combination of Steadfast Block + Pray

I’ve been struggling on this for a couple of months and I still can’t do it, this is my last chapter and I really can’t do it even with the guide :( so I’m stuck 1 trophy away from the platinum
29:18 “His last phase... is fucking horrifying”. 😂 Tifa and Aerith joined the fight inversely for me so equipping Magnify=Healing to Tifa instead was the only tweak I needed to see it through. Beating this got me the Hardened Veteran Trophy and triggered the Platinum so many thanks for the video!
lol, yeah man. He party wiped me twice while I was practicing the fight for the video and both times were the same thing. Got to his last phase and died within 2 minutes or so hahaha. After that I realized it was best to just hold on to the limit and throw the kitchen sink at him as soon as that phase started. Interesting you got Tifa before Aerith, I'm still not sure how the game determines who shows up tbh, never found a concrete answer. Glad the video helped and thanks for watching!

i used the baseball bat to beat the game. its a gimicky weapon, but if you fully upgrade it, you get a lot of crit bonuses which helps
I can’t go back to Sephiroth battle it’s keeps putting me back to the portal
I just finished hard mode a couple days ago. I thought Bahamut was easier than the separate whispers because of how often they interrupt you with magic attacks. So frustrating. I surprisingly survived megaflare with all 3 with no barrier or anything and immediately magnify-curagad with Aerith to get immediately back to full health on everyone. I always have heal and revive on everyone though and prayer on everyone but Aerith and spam the heck out of Pray with everyone... I didn't have Aerith with Sephiroth at all. Cloud Barret and Tifa at the end for me and came so close to dying so many times... Had no plans with any of the fights, really, just clawed my way to the finish. lol. Man I love this game...

Well because...my "last attack" that "killed" Sephirot was literally FAT CHOCOBO´S ASS (Its final attack) I didn´t even plan it or anything, I just summoned it because literally Tifa was the only one with BTC at that moment, the fight continue with Fat Chocobo with us but then Sephirot f·c&%ng lose it and killed Cloud, and Aerith was just about to die and was cornered (my only healer), but then I managed to run and dodge with Tifa enough time and It just happened xD
Except Chapter 18 begins way before this, with an impossible motorcycle boss battle with a 1-hit or 2-hit beam attack that is IMPOSSIBLE to block and difficult to dodge, as the motorcycle brakes are insanely disabled if you are within 10 yards of the enemy in Hard Mode (to dodge it in Normal mode you would just brake). Not to mention it's random how frequently he does the simple machine gun attack that you can't block and can only dodge 50% of its duration if you are God (meaning it alone can kill you through RNG if he does it often enough, even if you perfectly dodge all other moves and are perfect at maximally dealing damage to him). But we'll just pretend that's not part of the game's Ch 18...

I tried to be as clear as I could, sorry if you felt like I went too fast. Funny enough the criticism I usually receive on my videos is I talk too slow lol. Try reducing the playback speed and see if that helps.
I had a harder time beating the whispers on normal than i did hard mode 🤔🤣 and braver is boss, it can stagger rufus in 1 hit.
Lol yeah that's odd. I suppose you were just used to the fight by the hard mode runthrough? And Braver is def boss, in retrospect I didn't use it quite enough while making this guide and I wish I had of. I just smacked Rufus with Ascension and called it a day but if/when I go back and play through it again I'll probably try to get the insta-stagger. Thanks for watching!

Sorry, I tried to be as clear as I could but I know I was a bit all over the place in some spots. I beat the game 3 times and never had Barrett in the final fight so I'm still not sure how that happens, glad you got passed it though and hopefully the guide was of some use.

i just can't get past this chapter bro like this is my fourth try i just did it again and i got killed after the bahamut thing where they split again i clapped every damn boss in the last 17 chapter like everyone i just cant get past this one

Triple Slash will really mess their day up when theyre split, and when they turn into Bahamut you NEED to have a limit ready. Be it Ascension or Dolphin Flurry. Make sure to start dropping Thundaga on him from Aerith as soon as they merge together too. His health is pretty low compared to normal Bahamut but you can't let up at all because you have way less time before it mega flares.

Why come tifa and barret
I'm not sure why this happens, my recommendation if you find yourself in this situation would be to set Barret up as a tank/healer and either Cloud or Tifa (probably Cloud) as the mage. Same strategy applies only you'll be tanking the hits with Barret and using Cloud to counter-cast his elemental infusions. If you go this route MAYBE give Tifa Gotterdammerung and have her be the one to drop the Limit on Sephiroth in his final phase. Hope that helps and good luck!
