Randy is such a cool dude, and you'd never know he had this personality just following him on the field. Nobody nastier on the mound than Randy in his day.
Grew up a die-hard Mariners fan... absolutely loved Randy Johnson when I was a kid. Might love him even more now. His interviews with Dan are just the best, and hearing about his passion for photography recently was really awesome... he takes some amazing shots. Just a super interesting guy.
I love this. It’s so wonderful to see how Randy Johnson is a warm and interesting person. He was so fiercely intense on the ballfield. I could’ve never imagined him having a fun and playful conversation. Thanks Dan, for showing me Randy Johnson’s humanity.
Randy walking in from the bullpen in the 10th inning of game 5 in 95. Welcome to the jungle playing. The kingdom was shaking. Incredible. Second row behind the M’s dugout. Owners were in front of us. Then Edgar hit the double. Junior scores. Chaos. Having been present for that I realized I’ve lived a complete life. Everything has been a bonus after that....
Long time Mariners fan, as in since day one. Those days of Randy, Jr, Bruhner, Edgar, Moyer and Lou Piniella were magical. Sadly, they couldn't get it done. Randy was such a beast! Those were halcyon days!
Without a doubt! You can definitely tell that Randy is from & was raised around the Bay Area. I'd love to hear a podcast with him & Walton talking music & life
This reminds me of my uncle who is tall and kinda looks like randy, we would not go into certain areas of the house, and we were terrified of him, because of the rules, and he seemed so mean. Then I got older, he had grandkids and we talked for hours and he’s such a cool guy lol.
Definitely agree that he's a little underrated. Having watched baseball from the mid-90s on, he's the most intimidating pitcher I ever saw. Plus, was dominant in Arizona's championship run and I think he's still the oldest pitcher to throw a perfect game.
I can't argue with you. Steve Carlton was my hero growing up, and one of the greats, but he didn't have quite the "stuff" that RJ had. I imagine the old timers might make a case for Sandy Koufax. Wish I could have seen him play, but that was before my time.
I had a conversation with him on the phone once decades ago...talking music... i wasn't aware it was him i was talking to...at the end he said if I'd like him to send me a signed card and i told him it wasn't necessary... after the call finished the guy who gave me the phone to talk to him started laughing... he knew who it was since he was a good customer of his... he just handed me the phone ... i told him he offered me a card and i declined... that set him off in hysterics ... he said he had never offered him one in all the time he had been doing business with him... btw... our conversation was about beatles bootleg cds that were just starting to happen big time
Randy Johnson was so great. I think his career gets a little lost today from playing on the West Coast and not pitching for either the Dodgers or Giants for any real duration. As the ace for the Seattle Mariners and the Arizona Diamondbacks when he played, he never got the full credit he deserved. Even when winning 3 games in the 2001 World Series against the favored Yankees, Curt Schilling got more credit than Johnson and was given a co-MVP award that should have gone just to the "Big Unit." I'm a geezer who grew up watching the likes of Ford, Koufax, Spahn, Marichal, Gibson and saw Nolan Ryan in 1969 at Dodger Stadium with the Mets come in late in the game and throw 100+ mph white lines for a couple of innings against over-matched Dodgers hitters. There are only two pitchers who rival Johnson in my lifetime of watching- Sandy Koufax and Steve Carlton. Thanks for the great segment!! Glad to see Randy in top form, even if coming off the surgery. The man deserves all the kudos.
Great interview. Randy "The Big Unit" Johnson is truly a cool guy. He knows his music.
It’s interviews like this that make my sports day, bravo 👏

This interview was awesome , made my afternoon.
love RJ!
Always love the interviews with Randy Johnson

Great interview, really enjoyed this ! Keep up the great work Dan ❤

This was gold!
I absolutely love Randy Johnson. What a great guy
Great to see in hear from a legend my top 5 pitcher ever
Some Bill Walton vibes here from Randy.
Without a doubt! You can definitely tell that Randy is from & was raised around the Bay Area. I'd love to hear a podcast with him & Walton talking music & life
Nailed it! Was trying to figure out the regional accent.
was going to comment same thing - you beat me to it!
lol. Nah: way more of a bad ass then that dude
That was more interesting than I thought possible
Awesome guy and interview
Just saw the Lofton video 😂
I was there at the game with family when Randy hit the bird. Craziest thing ever. It really shook him up.
Icon. Legend. The GOAT!!
He’s an old goat you’re correct

Big Unit great guest. Good points about pitchers today not getting opportunities to pitch stressful pitches and situations.
They won't learn resilience, which is how a pitcher develops and can achieve greatness.
John Kruk's reaction to batting against Randy in the MLB AllStar game was the most understandable reaction I've ever seen
can you guys do a monthly Randy Johnson record segment? He's fantastic!
Randy named my five best drummers, wow!!!
Greatest left handed pitcher ever yeah I said it! 👍🏻⚾️

Most dominant (his “stuff”) lefthander I’ve ever seen pitch

The bird just adds to his legend…🕊️
Great interview

Hal Blaine, Jim Gordon, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich J Keltner
One of the last of the great fire throwing guys. Randy was very intimidating and was the man.

What a character this guy is
Unimaginable dominance. What a treat it was to watch the Big Unit scare the f*ck out of batters for years!
His home run pitch was a fastball. I watched the video just now.
He's the 6'10 version of Gary McCord 😂
That's an insane comparison 👎
Fun interview
The man
He has a quality music collection! o
Greatest
Dude was an intense, pissed off, monster on the field.
no brUford Unit? you had his LP during the interview...
Not even a baseball fan but man randy is the man, awesome stuff. Good job fritzy
vida blue was amazing
He was funny as hell on mcafee talked about the "bird"
He looks like Phil Jackson.
What about RINGO on drums? He's underrated in my humble opinion!
Overrated haha. Are you a drummer?
Part of the reason the Arizona Coyotes are leaving….former Dback and no question about how RJ felt about them leaving the Valley…
Randy much more talkative in retirement compared to his playing years
Dan - you selling your collection was a mistake. You and Randy could have had a weekly segment on the vinyl you acquired over the years.
Looking at RJ makes me feel old..
And most intimidating
Killing a bird could have been anyone. It does overshadow his career
Pitchers today over train.
Always at least one jackass who leaves a negative thought smoke get paid do something 😮
Art Blakey the best drummer ever...Jazz
This doesn’t even look like him, I didn’t even believe it was him at first until I heard his voice.
Should have had 6, if not for roid boy.
What a crappy interview 👎
