RJ is incredibly humble in this interview. He is one of the most dominant athletes in the last 40 years. Very much the Shaq of baseball
Randy’s a legend. I could listen to him talk ball all day.
I don't know the guy but he really look interesting and very invested in the interview.
It's nice to hear his approach and work ethics. 👍
For those of you who aren’t into baseball, this man was probably the most intimidating pitcher to ever live… and not just that, he was ELITE; he’s in most people’s all-time starting rotation. A league where the men played this sport at the absolute highest level in the world, he was a king amongst men.
Randy is an all-time great, but anyone who doesn't know how intimidating Bob Gibson probably should go back and do some more research.🤷
@@atm1919 love Gibson was, (you can out Nolan Ryan up there too for intimidating) but RJ was a 6’10 lefty that could hit 100 mph if he needed too, wild af when he was young and then got his control as he aged… Gibson was intimidating, but no one was scarier than RJ.
@Realdrlipschitz ur jusr wrong and that's okay. #sorrynotsorry
@@atm1919 lol. Have a good one kid 👍
@@Realdrlipschitzcool come back... I mean fuck Ryan was more intimidated cuz he was as wild n threw harder
Randy looks unrecognizable!! Not necessarily in a bad way but just different! I think it’s the beard and glasses
I might guess he used to be an athlete by his size, but I would have walked past him and never recognized him 1000/1000 times
This man made the steroid era hitters shake in their boots.
He sure did however, pitchers juiced too.
He was like 12 ft tall, he didn’t need to.
He was one of my favorite pitchers growing up. ❤
Randy is my GOAT. Dude upped his game halfway through his career and became one of the scariest pitchers in history
Great interview. As a Braves fan, would love to see Chipper or Maddox on the show. Would be a good time.
"Baseball is the greatest game ever invented" Babe Ruth
My all time favorite player of ALL TIME!!! The big unit!…Mr. Randy Johnson!!! Hells yeah!!!
Wish he touched on the two guys that really turned his career around, Tom House & Nolan Ryan. They set him on the path to greatness.
Bro crazy I been watching Randy highlights since I been playing MLB the show recently, and first interview I’ve ever seen him in like a week later. Crazy
This guy was the scariest pitcher to live. He struck down a bird with his thunder once. I don’t think everyone realizes just how improbable that was😂❤
Favorite player of all time! Absolutely LOVE RJ
One of the best signature
Randy’s voice sounds like Bill Walton.
We dont need exploding birds and 4,000 strikeouts just to broach the topic of baseball on ESPN
There's for sure been a shift in the last decade, but i appreciate segments like this. Guys are trying to bring baseball back in the spotlight. No other league is trying to bring their sport center stage as much as baseball.
Now get rid of the goddamn blackouts and we're rolling
@@austin8783 Your assertion that no sport is doing more to grow the sport is laughable. This Week In Baseball (TWIB) AND Baseball Tonight are off the air. USA Today Baseball Weekly is GONE. There is literally NOWHERE to watch nightly game highlights.
Wtf is broach

Absolutely love this guy. Hard to say he’s underrated given his stats and his HOF status. But I think with his occasional wildness makes some think he’s not as good as he is. He’s phenomenal. I absolutely love this guy.
I also love his personality. I remember after he hit the bird, he was not amused. He was pissed at everyone laughing because he felt so badly. I mean, it’s not his fault, and it’s incredible, so I’m glad he can laugh at it now, but still… I love his compassion for animals. Not at all surprised that he’s doing safari photographs and the like now. So on brand. I haven’t a clue what his politics is, but he SEEMS like a compassionate, caring, loving guy.
…on top of his phenomenal career. Love everything about him. One of my top five favorites of all time who didn’t play for my own team.
One of the best! Now Randy is a photographer for the NFL
Thank you for covering a sport and legend that adults still care about. Unfortunately, folks find it easy to say “baseball is boring” because it’s become cool to have the attention span of a 4 year old.
One of my top 3 favorite pitcher's
Lifetime Mariners fan! Big Unit is the dude! Unstoppable freak and the bird moment is 1 in a 1,000,000,000
"I AM RANDY JOHNSON" is all i heard and im satisfied
Great interview, yea the last era of pitchers that could go the whole nine if needed (Randy, Clemens, Maddux, Glavine). Which had happened for over a hundred years. And what an incredible nick name "The Big Unit."
Awesome interview.
They show the Kruk one but the one with Larry Walker in the ASG is even better.
No it wasn’t
Fuckin great surprise to see the big unit on here, nephews should check out this legends highlights
My pops met him at a Hooters in Baltimore when the Mariner’s were playing the O’s…he signed a receipt and has the TINIEST signature I’ve ever seen
“Hittin the bird” sounds like a euphemism😂
Dude so intense
Tucson represent 🙏🏽
Oldest/first IRL MLB memory I have is seeing Randy Johnson and the Diamondbacks at the Reds in 2002. I was only 8. 8IP and 11 Ks for Johnson but honestly I only remember one thing, him hitting a ground rule double.

Being a diamondbacks fan and a raiders fan hearing Pat tell Randy he's like Maxx Crosby is music to my ears. Absolute legends of there sport. Maxx will go down as a hall of gamer and could be the greatest Raider to ever do it. Just like Randy is the best pitcher to suit up for the Dbacks...Brandon Webb a close second tho
Lfg boys 🔥
Wow Randy looks so different now
Yup...looks older obviously but looks great.
The bird thing would be trivially memorable if it happened to anyone else. It is so amazing because of all people to have taken a pitcher's mound, a bird accidentally flew in front of a baseball thrown by one of the greatest, most intimidating pitchers of our time. It is so funny. Not for the bird though.
I feel like Randy is doing the like boomer thing when they yell into their speakerphone.
Try going a day without saying, “like”.
If you weren't blind it looks like he has a hearing aid in his ear
Its the Batters taking time between each pitch that makes the game slow.
The one pitcher I would never want to face if I was in the pros, ever. His hand would feel like it was inches from your face on release. No way..
11:51 i grew up watching guys CG on L's so he right
The Big Unit
He looks so different
He just looks like an older guy that use to be a bad ass lol
The mlb was on the money adding the pitch clock, if you watch highlights from the 90s its not unusual for a player to take a 5 minute at bat🤣
Its both good and bad. Its better for TV but going to the games i hate it. Most of the time you go to talk and BS around or for dollar beer night
The bird was sacrificed so they could win the World Series.
almost happened again when Gallen killed a bird last year
As a Yankees fan I hated him but my god he was ridiculous. He casually threw a first pitch 77 mph like was playing catch in the backyard at the age of 50
mount rushmore
This man was so good the Yankees got him at like age 41 and we all treated it like Christ coming back to earth 😂😂 (he’d go on to be a terrible Yankee lol)
Wrote this before watching the interview, I could watch Randy talk ALL DAY! What a treat!
Huh, this show is talking about baseball? That’s a first.
Randy hits a bird...millions of viewers look up from eating chicken wings and nuggets to talk about how bad they feel for the bird...
🤔
Wow. You must be a blast at the office party
Nobody gave a shit about the bird at the time lol and they still don't. This wasn't in the "offended by everything" era
@@Mikeyjfox1 they still don't... Right, that's why we're still talking about it. The only offensive thing here is your inability to form a coherent thought.
@@wiffleballer28 It's still talked about because of how unlikely it was to happen. Not rocket science, you absolute clahn.
@@viktorstagnetti7491 throwing out insults instead of thinking about the issue? again...inability to form a coherent thought. congrats! you've proven yourself ignorant twice!
Baseball is better than football 🤷🏾♂️😂😂😂
Awful show but Randy can make anything palatable.
How bout you do us all a favor and grow a pair. Just fucking do it already, coward. No one cares about you, no one will miss you, it’ll actually be a good thing..
WARNING
There is literally NOWHERE to watch nightly MLB game highlights. This Week In Baseball (TWIB) AND Baseball Tonight are off the air. USA Today Baseball Weekly is GONE.
There are channels that post mlb network content, but I know what you mean. It sucks
I remember when sportscenter just used to run highlights every morning, each anchor with their own signature catch phrases.
Now it’s just tweets and talking heads.
@@richardcranium5801 that's not at all what I was referencing
@@richardcranium5801 ESPN literally does not cover MLB. At all. You are much more likely to see NCAA baseball and NHL as opposed to MLB.
Mlb covers thr clips and mlb now has a redzone equivalent.
if that bird thing happened in todays space of time... baseball would be banned indefinitely.
Seriously doubt anything would happen lol a billion dollar company isn't gonna shut down because a bunch of blue haired "they/thems" cried on Facebook 🤣
it really goes to show the american mindset; just watch the nba right now. it’s fucking pitiful. and yet nba gets 60x the coverage of mlb.. sad sad sports state the country is in right now.
Its more of wherr YOU are looking. We have the most content out there of all time. There are plenty of big baseball segments and shows.
One of the all-time worst with fans. Screw this guy.
Damn Randy didn’t age well
He 60 .. he looks like he’s in his 60s
What do you mean he looks like a healthy older man. His beard is amazing
