    I was born with the congenital heart condition Tetrology of Fallots and after having 4 heart surgeries in August 2014 I decided to conduct an experiment and stop eating all animal products/by products to see if it would improve my cholesterol levels. Previous to this I had been on cholesterol meds for years, which didn't help with my high cholesterol levels. Within about 6 weeks of this experiment I had another cholesterol test and was amazed, my level had dropped 1.5 points. Fast foward to 2023 and it's been 9 years since I have had any animal products and feel that it was the best thing I could have done, only wish I had done it sooner.

    July 21 2023 was the last day I ate an animal product so I guess I’m in the transition phase and I don’t crave animal products at all. BUT…I’m still dealing with GERD and I was hoping this would help. 😪 It’s only been 3 weeks so I know I need to be patient and consistent but I’m really hoping I can experience some of the positive health changes others have experienced.

      I used to have reflux before I went vegan but haven't got it since and that's been almost 13 years now. I like to reference nutritionfacts.org whenever I have something I'm curious about. But if it's more serious you probably should consult with a plant-based doctor. The six pillars of lifestyle medicine, only one is nutrition. So it could be something else like stress or something else in your diet or who knows what... But I can literally drink insane amounts of coffee now and not get any reflux. And 3 weeks isn't very long. You still probably have a lot to learn about getting a proper routine for a well-planned vegan diet. Remember vegan is a philosophy of nonviolence not a diet. So if you're truly trying to be vegan then you will find a way to make the day at work and there's tens of thousands of options out there to tailor your diet to your specific individualized needs ❤️. But there is a learning curve and the learning can be fun because good health is true wealth. So be ready for a long journey of learning the recipes and fine-tuning your eating times and finding other ways to optimize your lifestyle! But keep the ethics at the core so you have the drive to endure whatever learning needs to take place. For me it was relatively easy to transition because I had already acclimated to predominantly eating plant-based prior to even going vegan. But some people may need time to transition and systematically introduce these new foods and learn proper serving sizes. For me the trick, because I enjoy eating and the things I prepare so much, is not overeating which I have a tendency to do when I'm not super busy and spending too much time in the kitchen :-) prior to that it was not eating too late, etc.

      I've had the same experience. I hardly use deodorant anymore since I've gone vegan, and shower only every 3 days (even doing Yoga in between). I hardly smell ever. This would have been impossible before. I also think this is logical, because in nature, no animal needs to use deodorant. So if we were living naturally, our bodies would just regulate their smell when we're healthy. Plants don't make you smell, whereas meat does (there are even studies about meat / dairy consumption and body odour).

      I mean, I understand it is the one of the few nutrients of concern, maybe fear of not getting a proper amount and how to get it since we don't drink milk where it's used as a disinfectant. And a lot of us don't eat salt because we may be no salt, oil or sugar. I use kelp granules most days. That with whole foods and hope for the best. When I interviewed Brenda Davis she mentioned iodine, and I've heard Fuhrman mention it and he includes it in his supplement. You're right, I'll definitely try to go there a little more.

Whereas it makes sense we could lack b12 from a lack of bacteria, or even vitamin d without sufficient sunshine, It just seems strange to me that a whole foods plant based diet grown in good quality soils wouldn't have sufficient iodine. • @VeganLinked

      I can't speak for Martica, and I'm not qualified in any sort of significant way beyond a very deep passionate exploration into this world and way, but I'd be more than happy to share and hopefully this will help.
      What I found is first you need to know why you're going vegan. Why would you go vegan? It is a philosophy, and it has a very specific meaning, that is you don't exploit or hurt animals needlessly or reduce exploitation as much as practicable. So if you truly don't want to hurt animals and want to actualize your utmost potential as a healthy vegan then learn how to purchase and prepare whole plant food such as legumes, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices and a variety of each.
      All taste is acquired so you can learn how to love these things that love back. And between these categories there's tens if not hundreds of thousands of edible plant options to tailor a diet specific to your individualized desires and needs.
      There are countless RUclipsrs and websites out there with recipes totally free and easily accessible. Just learn the basics and keep things as simple as possible. For example, this morning I prepared enough lentils and groat oats to last me three or four days as well as my wife. This makes it easy to eat breakfast and lunch as healthy as possible. We keep fresh produce on hand for snacks and sides. We buy lots of vegetables and berries Frozen. A lot of it's making soups, salads, dressings, and learning how to integrate as much variety into your bowls. I think it's general understood that getting the bulk of your calories early in the morning is best so consider eating breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. Try to give yourself enough space after eating dinner too digest properly several hours before you go to bed. Things like that may help as well as other lifestyle behaviors like getting plenty of sleep, exercise, social support, not doing drugs, stress management, etc. And when food is fuel to do great things you eat to live instead of living to eat.
      So if I know I want to eat lentils as many times as possible throughout the week I may keep some black, green, and red lentils readily available dry and in bulk, like I do my whole grains and other legumes like black beans and groat oats. Then when I want to make a recipe A lot of them are basically the same bringing the water to a boil and then let simmer for however much time. If you're making legumes a lot of times you can saute vegetables before you start cooking the legumes.. The bigger the grain the longer it takes to cook. Keep can legumes and grains available for days when you're in a rush. I like Amy frozen meals for quick and in a hurry days but I can always add fresh greens to that quick as well. Try to keep things diverse, don't just eat spinach, try to do more dark lettuces and cruciferous like kale and arugula. Maybe add vinegar and lemon or lime to as many meals as possible if you're a woman and want to get a little more iron. Try to include fats with your meals to absorb fat soluble nutrients so things like walnuts, sunflower seeds, pepitas, sesame seeds, hemp seeds, and especially flaxseed daily that's fresh ground.
      So if I have some split peas on hand I might just Google a quick recipe, and qualify a search saying "whole Food plant-based vegan instant pot split peas". Easy peasy :-) you might want to get some big bowls, maybe get a food processor, and instant pot, some people like using air fryers, a Vitamix is always fun, but you can get by making all of the essentials with just a pot.
      You may also like checking out things such as food for life by Physicians Committee for responsible Medicine, you can get like certified in that. Or t colon Campbell's nutrition certification. But just making a whole plant foods delicious is super easy and you can absolutely learn the basics checking out some of these incredible vegan RUclipsrs like Chef Gaz Oakly, or the plant-based cooking show, or cooking for peanuts, etc...

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  6 месяцев назад

      There's got to be a zillion ways to make incredible vegan soups, tacos, burritos, Buddha bowls, pizzas, even lasagna, anything can be made vegan :-) but the healthiest meals are the most simple really. And getting used to keeping it simple can be very flavorful at the same time, rewarding, and a little challenging as there may be a learning curve or times when it's easier just to acquiesce to more processed foods.

      Eating animal is eating something process because the animal you're eating acquired their nutrients from plants and then their body metabolized those nutrients for that animal's body's specific needs. An animal's you most likely have gone through the domestication process, concentrated animal feeding operations process, slaughtering process, cleaning process, packaging process, refrigeration process, until finally through transportation process it gets to you. Then you cook it because you don't want to eat it like that and you wanted to taste good so you seasoned it with whole plant foods.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  Год назад

      Does the animal you eat take supplements? Because the majority of supplements go to non-vegans and the animals that Nan vegans eat. But yeah instead of licking dirt I take a B12 supplement what about you? Necrotic rotting animal flesh cross contaminated with feces during the soldering process? Do those water soluble nutrients survive the cooking process. Do you drive, live in a house, wear clothes, and use devices?

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  Год назад

      Since only bacteria synthesize B12 I guess it's fair to say that doesn't count. So it's irrelevant. Therefore no I don't take supplements in relation to not eating animals. Carnivores don’t have to measure and balance like vegetarians. They just eat until satiated. They don’t have to have 3-4 meals with 3-4 snacks throughout the day, because their blood sugars stay steady and are not on a roller coaster constantly going up and down. It’s amazingly freeing and the way our ancestors ate. They eat one- two meals a day and don’t need to snack because they are getting 1-1/2 grams of healthy animal fat per gram of protein. Humans are not meant to graze all day like monkeys and cows. We are meant to eat the cow 🐄 that had the 4 stomachs, that processes the grass for us. This is why carnivores only defecate every 3-4 days. They get the urge, they sit, they poop, they stand, and often don’t need toilet paper. The entire process takes 10 seconds. They absorb just about all of the nutrient dense animal. Nothing to waste. Why do you think people poop out corn whole? Because it’s not human food. We are not suppose to eat it.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  8 месяцев назад +1

      No one here is vegetarian so I don't know why you're bringing that up. As a healthy vegan we eat until satiated. There are a lot of vegans who do intermittent fasting effortlessly so everything about your preconceived ideas is based on faulty premises.
      What you are saying is why people eating animals have increased risk for things like colon cancer prostate cancer breast cancer and so on. You don't want to live like your ancestors did because that means you'll die like they did.
      You should try to learn a lot more before you comment

      @letitiacipolla2765 8 месяцев назад

      Humans cannot process vegetation. That is the point that you missed. We have the correct stomach ph to process meat. We aren’t suppose to eat plants. Plants are carbohydrates that have poisonous defenses for humans and we should not eat them. Name one essential carbohydrate for humans? In fact the sugars and their natural defenses hurt us and create inflammation and all the chronic diseases over time. Why are all our cancer meds made out of plants? Because they kill cells in humans. Why are cashews never sold with the shell on? Because it is poisonous for us and is from the poison ivy family., along with mangos. Why if you eat uncooked kidney beans you could die? Or a large amount of almonds you could die? and people have. Apple seeds and Lima beans have cyanide in them, in It’s because plants have built up their defenses over millions of years and that’s why they are still here because they can not run from a predator like animals and humans can. We are suppose to eat the animal that eats the plant. They process it for us, and we get the nutrition from their meat and fat. I hope that makes it easier for you to understand.

      But yeah just because other people do something doesn't mean it's best or even intelligent for that matter. Especially when it's something as deeply embedded in cultural habituation as our diets have become. The fact that millions of people or even billions eat animals means absolutely nothing significant or relevant when it comes to justifying it. If anything it just makes what we're doing even exponentially worse The fact that so many are doing it.

      I'm interviewing lifelong vegans and vegan parents and those who can speak on it like midwives, pediatricians, obstetricians, etc and I will be transitioning into releasing content predominantly if not almost exclusively on this. In fact I just got back from a 2 and 1/2 week long road trip from North Carolina to Kansas, Iowa, Chicago, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky doing interviews predominantly on this. And I already have enough content on this topic for most of the rest of the year. But I'm releasing all the other content not related to that before I start releasing that. However I already have a lot of content mixed in my existing content that's already published. About 2 weeks prior to my recent run of interviews I started a website in anticipation of all of this to complement future content called raisingchildrenvegan.com. I would love for you to go there and join! I'm going to be switching out the ai images for real pictures soon. I still have to get caught up with all I've shot editing wise. But I've been getting vegan families to send me pictures and taking some here and there. The site has some great content in it already. By becoming a member you can simply just add a picture and banner and your story, but then you can also if you want take it further by posting a recipe, adding a topic to the forum or responding there, adding a listing and so on. But just being a member is awesome if you want to join 🙂

      @@VeganLinked I think unnatural vegan has a good point when it comes to this; for a lot of us, just whole foods don’t provide all the stuff we need when it comes to minerals and protein, since we don’t know or don’t want to eat precisely the foods that we need for each thing (I love my beans but I ain’t eating 3 servings a day, the same with greens), so it makes sense to eat mock meats since those provide a lot of those things we lack with the other foods we eat. So long as we don’t over do it, it can be a win/win to incorporate these, even everyday, since we don’t consume enough saturated fats and sodium with the rest of our diets to make these foods super dangerous. But not enough people say this, other than Unnatural Vegan. I think it can be good to spread this message since it’d make remaining vegan easier for folks.

      I prefer whole plant foods as often as I can. If I want something that resembles a burger I would rather it having been made from whole plant foods. I have zero reason to believe it is advantageous to crowd out the healthiest, whole foods for processed foods. Lentils, black beans, kale, quinoa, sweet potatoes, edamame, peas, chickpeas, romaine, nuts, seeds, etc burgers made from whole foods like these and topped with destroy beyond, impossible, etc. a perfect distribution of all the nutrients. If you're worried about calcium cut down on salt, worried about sodium shake some kelp granules, want iodine add hemp seed, want selenium add brazil nut, vitamin E sunflower seeds, omega 3's flax and chia, more fatty acids add in some walnuts, vitamin D get some mushrooms in the mix... zero need to eat mock meats and the legends in the movement don't eat them but my wife loves them so I do occasionally lol.

    • @hugomarquez3189
      @hugomarquez3189 Год назад

      @@VeganLinked sure, but you must understand that not everyone likes all these plant foods or wants to eat them everyday, and not everyone is vegan for health reasons. I agree that the healthiest way is doing it the way you are, but there are other ways that even if they fall short of that, can also be healthy. I would prefer giving people options, there’s not just one way of doing it, now if you want to be the healthiest possible, then sure, do it entirely whole foods. My guess is not a lot of people can keep that up tho, but maybe I’m wrong. Trust me, I eat 85 to 90% whole food everyday, I breeze the fiber requirements and the number of diverse plants in my diet. I still feel like I need to add some of the artificial stuff (a taco just doesn’t taste as good to me without it, pasta with red sauce doesn’t taste as good without the meatballs, and I’ll just have two meatballs, but that makes all the difference, and so forth).

    Thank you for yet another great interview.🌱
    To be honest,that has been my story too, more or less. It seems that it takes about 30+/_ yrs on vegetarian food for the body to start rejecting animal products and naturally lean more and more towards purely vegan food...
    Yet, on behalf of all my fellow vegetarians:
    1) I do not accept the blame coming from our fellow vegans for the horrors of factory farming- especially if we consume some organic dairy/ eggs taken from small-farm-bred animals that are well taken care of.
    2) I do not consider myself / my fellow vegetarians responsible for animal slaughtering either- if people did not eat flesh, would farming industry be killing animals at that ferocious rate long before their natural lifespan was over?! No way.
    Also,
    3) it is quite unacceptable to me that some newly-bred vegan influencers (who were still munching their bacon/ steak a few years ago) would now proudly lecture battle-proven long-term vegetarians on animal welfare... only to go back to the famous : " I'm no longer vegan and here is why I now eat meat again" with the same bravado and uber-confidence with which they were preaching the opposite just a month earlier...
    And no, like many other vegetarians, I have not worn leather for those long 30 yrs (except for some occasional footwear simply because sneakers are not a year-round-cure-all...😄).
    Cheers, be good and stay healthy.🍅

      Here and now and moving forward is what matters and vegetarianism is horrific. It normalizes the exploitation of animals that ultimately inevitably results in the most abusive and horrific circumstances. It isn't sustainable and completely unnecessary for everyone to do as you say and respect to getting humane sources of free-range yada yada. So pretending like it's doing something good only enablea others to think it's okay and ultimately perpetuates the abuse...
