    fun fact the forest badge is based on the kanji for forest which makes since the tree kanji look like a tree and forest kanji is made of 3 tree kanji

    I also think that Giovanni’s badge looking like a feather is a holdover from when Giovanni wasn’t meant to be Viridian City’s gym leader. Viridian was originally meant to be the first gym, and the leader was a boy about the age of a youngster and he would have been a flying type specialist.

      ^^^ 100%
      im glad they went with giovanni though because it's AWESOME looping back around back to Pallet and later Viridian to geet to the last gym

      @@UserNameHere-yb5fu Yeah, I guess so. Wouldn’t surprise me if that scrapped idea is what led them to making the first gym in the next games flying type.

    A cool fact about the iceberg Badge. The lower part of the batch that is blue surrounding what looks like an icy mountain is it actually water and you can see it moving if you look closely at the Badge in game.
    So it’s really an iceberg floating in water I always thought this was really cool and it’s probably my favourite badge because of this

    The badge fall-off really started with Kalos for me. There are so many creative ways to reference a type other than simply using its name. I hope we get a proper Dark type gym bade with a worthy name in the future - I always imagined the Silhouette Badge.

      @shonkyhonker9347 21 день назад +6

      The names of the kalos badges are notoriously bad. you’re telling me the first fairy badge is jsut called the fairy badge? I will say the designs are amazing, aside from the fairy badge being way too long

    After those years i see Unova bagdes as the best ones. All fitting one idea with beeeing slim and long. Like someone in Pokemon League gave all the Gym Leaders specific shape to follow.

    I think the implication of Arven and the Team Star badges is that they're using designs from official league badges that aren't in use, that's why they're so similar.

    • @nullpoint3346

      Either that, or ALL those badges don't exist in-universe.

    I Remember I was so dissapointed by the Galar Gym Badges just using the Type names in Galar I renamed them all
    Here were the names I came up with and my reasons for them
    Grass Badge: Meadow Badge
    (Herding Wooloo in a grassy meadow area for the gym challange)
    Water Badge: Seaspray Badge
    (Hulbury is by the sea and badge looked like water droplets to me)
    Fire Badge: Ignition Badge
    (I admit this one had no real reason, I just thought it sounded cool)
    Fighting Badge: Body Badge / Ghost Badge: Spirit Badge
    (Names connect the gyms chosen types as opposites)
    Fairy Badge: Folktale Badge
    (Balloonlea feels like a town out of a fairytale or Folklore)
    Rock Badge: Quarry Badge / Ice Badge: Flurry Badge
    (Matching "rr" connect the 2 gyms run by mother and son while having unique names )
    Dark Badge: Punk Badge
    (Piers... Team Yell)
    Dragon Badge: Scale Badge
    (dragons have scale but also Pokemon in Galar "scale" up via Dynamax/Giagantamax)

    The Galar gym badges are actually pretty cool. The gym badges may have simple designs but the way they assemble together has a meaning. And that meaning is that the british coins form a coat of arms when arranged together.
    Which is what the gym badges from Galar are making reference (but instead of a coat of arms they use the symbol of the galar gym challenge).

    I always thought Paldea's badges were unnamed because the characters that hand them to you just refer to them as "a badge" or "the badge", they go like: "Alright, here's your badge" or "I'll give you this badge to commemorate your victory" or something like that.

    As people have already pointed out the Galar badges fitting together is to me a really nice touch. But it's not the only thing worth noting, since if you want more interesting designs, the Galar gyms all have their own icons (which look great) too.

    I disagree with what you think about the Hoenn badges. I think they're better than the other badges- not "boring". They kinda had to be reminiscent of the other badges, considering that they kinda had to reuse types since- counting Kanto- they had a gym for every type in Gen 2. (excluding Dark because racism ig). Even if they had a Dark type gym in gen 3- that's only one new badge. The Stone badge as you said is more elaborate- but by the looks of it it seems to be a stone cut in half. What are you gonna make a Fighting type gym? Best you can do is like, a punching bag or something. I think the Heat Badge looks better than the Volcano Badge- though that can be attributed to all of the gen 1 badges being symmetrical and very- how do I put this... Plump? Like they all look like they could fit in a circle very well (minus the Earth badge). The best they could do is maybe a wind gust or something for Winona, and a stormcloud for Wallace/Juan (which doesn't fit their elegance imo). I HEAVILY disagree with the "three cascade badges stuck together" thing- because it isn't? Two of them are not filled in, and I think represents how rain showers can be on and off.

    • @pentagonyx
      @pentagonyx 21 день назад

      Also, IMO pretty much ALL of the Gen 4 gyms are boring and unmemorable. It's just this generation of kids' bias towards Gen 4.

    • @pentagonyx
      @pentagonyx 21 день назад

      One more thing; No clue what you're on at 9:03. There are VERY VERY clear differences between the three sets of badges. The official ones are the base, the Team Star badges have their logo plastered all over it, and Arven's badges are the same as Gym Badges but without the gold/brass/whatever on the real ones- showing how they aren't legit.
      And if you want to explain why they look similar to the Gym badges to begin with- 1: game design consistency, and 2: Lore-wise- Well I got nothing except for a crackhead theory; In case you didn't read the dialogue (which Pokemon fans HATE reading for some reason), there's a Galar Minor Gym league. We know this because of Klara/Avery in the SwSh DLC. Who's to say Paldea doesn't also have a minor gym league- and that's where these other badge designs come from? These could be reproductions of those, and it just so happens that the Titans/Team Star badges don't share types with the main gyms.

    Maaaaan, the fact that the newest badges are so basic and soulless is really disappointing. The badge-polishing minigame from gen 4 was so cool as a kid, I would open the badge container all the time just to make sure they were all shiny. Need more stuff like that, not a nondescript "water badge" or whatever.
    My favorite has always been the Thunder Badge from Lt. Surge. The design isn't crazy or anything, but It's just really pretty.
    Also, a "Zephyr" is a word for a small breeze in addition to a Greek God. just a fun fact, I think the former definition is used much more widely.

    2:15 Wow, it's so pretty! :o
    Worth noting that Viridian Gym's badge being called the Green Badge in Japanese matches Blue (the Gen 1 rival)'s Japanese name. Makes sense, since he takes over the gym in Gen 2.
