There is actually a good quote by Chesterton about fairy and dragon type interactions. Paraphrasing a little- "fairy tales don't tell children that dragons exist. They know that already. Fairy tales tell children dragons CAN BE KILLED."
Lockstin has made a couple of good videos dedicated to the fairy and dragon type. The idea is that dragons bend the arcane magic (infinity energy) and nature through their own means, in a sort of unnatural way, but fairies ARE arcane magic and nature in and of itself, and therefore have absolute control over it
9:23 I think that “Ground Beats Poison” has more to do with Japan’s experience with nuclear weapons and the old belief that being in an underground bunker would protect you from nuclear fallout. Therefore, ground beats pollution and poison.
I always thought it was because 1. you can't poison the ground (duh) 2. Dangerous materials (such as spent nuclear fuel or toxins) can sealed away in the earth
so how does that explain Poison resisting Fighting? that literally goes against what Tyson said, it would be valid if Fighting was super effective on Poison
Poison being weak to ground actually makes sense; polluted water that flows through layers of soil will be cleaned, since different particles in the soil bind to all kinds of toxins and other compounds. You can even make a waterpurifier by using several connected bottles, each with multiple layers of earth of different grain sizes in it. If you let polluted water flow through it, itll filter out many to most harmfull substances. This is even part of how we clean ground water into drinking water and purify waste water before releasing it back into rivers or ground water reservoirs (at least in Europe, don't know how you do that in the US ;) ). So ground does neutralize poison.
nope, similar purification: sifted through finer and finer sediments until it’s clarified enough to add fluoride. and the clarifying only removes heavy material, it doesn’t remove everything toxic…hence why it still has to be tested it’s also not immune to organic materials gathering, which is why emergency open reservoirs require boiling(know this from 2011 boil order that hit millions in my area)
The reason why Fighting is effective against Steel is more about how a person (or a fighter) can use metal weapons for their own purposes, being able to break them, modify them or even just handle them.
I always imagine it as a strongman bending a piece of metal with their bare hands, like those bodybuilders that bend horseshoes but that’s better than what I have 😂
My own justification, I always thought that it took an extreme amount of discipline (a mind of steel) to become fit and hard hitting like fighters. Hence the ability to overcome.
I've always interpreted the "Bug is strong against Psychic" match-up under a different rationale: the buzzing of a bug is incredibly distracting, and you can't really think straight / concentrate in those conditions.
Have you ever tried punching a fly and failing at it so miserably that the flys still make fun of you for doing that and are now moving away because they were just mean because I have they still find me pls help lol

I love that youre making this video. Your original video on type matchups from like 8 years ago was the first video from you was the video that put me onto you
I always thought Ground was effective against Poison because you use ground (rocks, sand, coal, etc) as a filtration medium to clean water, i.e. take out the poison. EDIT: And I suppose Fighting vs Steel because strong men can bend metal bars and pans. And Fairy vs Dragon as good magic vs evil magic.
11:24 I am SO tired of people saying water is weak to electric because it conducts electricity. If that were the case steel would be weak to electric but not water. Water is weak to electricity because of electrolysis, the process that literally breaks down water.
It's not the water that's weak to electric, as almost no water Pokémon is actually MADE of water. It's that the water dwellers are vulnerable to the electricity conducted through the water. With Steel it's different because the creature is either made of metal or has it function as body armour. Incidentally, if you were struck by lightning while wearing a suit of armour, you will likely suffer burns but most of the current will actually flow around you and into the ground rather than through you. You're kind of creating a false equivalence here. And it's also the same faulty logic that has people say steel is weak to fire because heat can melt metal. Of course electrolysis can break water and heat can melt metal, but the energy involved in that could take out most living creatures anyway, yet they aren't weak to these types in the same way. Really, steel is weak to fire because most steel Pokémon have the metal as an outer shell or a kind of armour, and if you've ever worn armour in hot conditions you'd know that it wouldn't take much extra heat before you're feeling properly uncomfortable in there 😅
Steel should be weak to Ice, a big part of why the Titanic sunk was actually because many steels become catastrophically brittle in extreme cold. Not to mention that the ice type needs all the help it can get…
Ice is already such a strong offensive type tho I think a better buff would be that it should resist water, make water/ice another bug/fighting type matchup
Rock should really be weak to ice… erosion by ice is a major source of rocks breaking down in colder climates. Only problem is that rock already has the same amount of weaknesses as grass! But ice could sure use the buff.
mikey: "the fact that the only type to resist every type it's super effective against and no others, is flying and it has the ground immunity" me: so thats why he made team sky because it's very VERY strong
Pretty sure it's just cuz he wanted to give Rayquaza an associated evil team like Kyogre and Groudon have. Also, Flying is not "very Very" strong. It is okay at best, unfortunately.
Mikey? Be a teacher some day. You have that level of dorky and good vibes that would make for an excellent educator. I would’ve personally loved someone like you as a teacher.
For fairy's immunity to dragon, Lockstin had a good analogy to use. Fae manipulate magic in a flow, Dragons force pure arcane energy out, so faries can move the magic around them
25:20 Actually, you can remember that Fire resists Fairy due to wildfires burning forests, where fairies tend to live. Their magic can't do much against fire.
I personally think it makes more sense to rationalize fire being resistant to fairy because the fairy type has an association with nature and purity -- their powers are not only drawn from nature, but generally tend to be controlled -- fire can't easily be controlled. Similarly, I hear a LOT of people complaining that fairy being resistant to bug is another bad match-up the bug type doesn't need, but I think the reason why this is the case has to do with the magical nature of the fairy type: not only are bugs simple-minded (generally speaking, this also explains their capability to hit dark super-effectively), and therefore not good against magical creatures, but the connection to nature could also help to justify this match-up to a degree
I think that the "alien-ness" of bugs, how truly different their minds and lives are from ours, is a factor in the bug/dark matchup. As dark types are massive users of fear tactics, intimidation, trickery and cheating... And they just can't fathom bugs out enough to fight them.
12:20 Consider that Shrek was the only knight who successfully rescued Fionna from the dragon, and Ogres are a type of fairy (just ones with more strength than magic). Fionna was not fairy/normal, she had a form changing ability that meant she was not always immune to the dragon.
Pokemon type concept: Sound type Superefectives: Psychic, Normal Resistances: Sound, Ghost Immunitys: Fighting Explanations: Psychic - sound can interupt meditating and consentrating. Normal - blast a full volume radio at a person's ear and see what happens Immuntity explanation: Fighting - you cannot use techniques at sound as it isn't a material Ressistances: Sound - do i have to explain? Ghost - Ghosts are also known for making loud screams, And sound can make louder noises so ghost cannot competete Supereffectives against sound: Eletric - Shockwaves can literally negate soundwaves Ice - BUFF ICE🗣🗣🗣🗣
For 11:40, I think that water is weak to electricity because electrifying water can cause electrolysis of water, which breaks apart the water pretty much
The "Fighting vs. Steel" matchup makes sense to me as if you're thinking of physical strength to bend a spoon, like the fighting power bends the metal.
12:35 another reason for fairy being immune to dragon is because fairy magic is seen more like light magic while dragon is kinda a darker magic, so the pure hearts of the fairies can’t be harmed by the “evil” of the dragon magic. Kinda like the anime hero just negating the big bad guy’s final attack through the power of friendship and love, then using that to blast them away.
I will ALWAYS maintain that electric should be super effective against steel. The same logic used for water being weak to electric should be applied to steel
@@theamazingspooderman2697Perfect proof as to why the fans shouldn't be allowed to design the type chart. If Poison were super effective on Water and Ground, in addition to Grass and Fairy, it'd be overpowered.
REMINDER TO NOT RESPOND TO BOTS, THEY WANT ATTENTION. If you see any sexualised profile pictures report it, either it copies another comment or its just something basic like "Your videos make the day better", often with heart emojis. Also, DONT CLICK ON THEIR PROFILES. This is especially for reply bots as they sometimes have very illegal content on their channels or just messed up videos in general.
It's funny you mentioned Spider-Man for bug vs dark because I always thought that matchup was a Kamen Rider reference which inspired some like Lokix and Ledian
It most likely is a Kamen Rider reference, but he used Spider-Man as a reference point since Spider-Man is definitely more well known and culturally relevant to a Western audience
For the Fairy weakness thing i have another theory: Maybe in this case steel and poisen are representing the Industrialization, destroying the untouched Nature Fairys live in. This is strongly shown in films anf fairytales too
Poison type's weakness to Ground types can be a bit more abstract, but it can be understood through the concept of contamination. Ground types often represent the earth and soil, which can be affected by pollution or toxins. In the Pokémon world, Ground types might represent a clean or purifying force that neutralizes poison, symbolizing how natural earth can absorb or mitigate toxins and pollutants.
Ngl i had some weird head canon that if a type resisted a certain type, it’d typically wouldn’t be effective but doing it excessively then it can eventually out do the type that’s resisting it Netural being types that do the base amount of damage to said opposing type but wouldn’t be affective
The original video is what helped me the most when first learning type matchups. To this day I still think of the examples used in that video when remembering my type weaknesses
I saw the dark-type advantages as “Why wouldn’t this type be afraid of the dark?” Fighting types are brave warriors, Fairy types are magical and often “light based”, bug types are very simple creatures that aren’t really afraid of anything.
Another reason why Bug works vs Dark is that many Fairy's in folklore, Fairy Tales and media are described and depicted with Insect Wings. So before the Fairy type existed those could have been lumped into the Bug Type for good measure :P

11:24 I am SO tired of people saying water is weak to electric because it conducts electricity. If that were the case steel would be weak to electric but not water. Water is weak to electricity because of electrolysis, the process that literally breaks down water.
Omg ur right!
Really, steel is weak to fire because most steel Pokémon have the metal as an outer shell or a kind of armour, and if you've ever worn armour in hot conditions you'd know that it wouldn't take much extra heat before you're feeling properly uncomfortable in there 😅
@@thecrispymaster yeah, water dwellers are vulnerable to electricity, so are land dwellers, and normal types aren't weak to electric
@@Exile29yeah you are right
@@Exile29bug should do normal damage to fairys in my opinion
Rock should really be weak to ice… erosion by ice is a major source of rocks breaking down in colder climates. Only problem is that rock already has the same amount of weaknesses as grass! But ice could sure use the buff.
Ice should be super effective against water and also resist it
mikey: "the fact that the only type to resist every type it's super effective against and no others, is flying and it has the ground immunity"
me: so thats why he made team sky because it's very VERY strong
Pretty sure it's just cuz he wanted to give Rayquaza an associated evil team like Kyogre and Groudon have. Also, Flying is not "very Very" strong. It is okay at best, unfortunately.
Mikey? Be a teacher some day. You have that level of dorky and good vibes that would make for an excellent educator. I would’ve personally loved someone like you as a teacher.
For fairy's immunity to dragon, Lockstin had a good analogy to use. Fae manipulate magic in a flow, Dragons force pure arcane energy out, so faries can move the magic around them
That's my go to when it comes to explaining type interactions. Yes.
I’m surprised Grunty Boy wasn’t more offended especially after the Knife incident.

Just got to that part and I saw this comment at the top besides the pinned comment-
Came to make my first time stamp comment to see I was not alone.
That was a huge missed opportunity for him to put that there! Since he was talking about bugs😂
After watching this.. I think I might actually understand type match ups even less, but it was very entertaining to watch 🤣
25:20 Actually, you can remember that Fire resists Fairy due to wildfires burning forests, where fairies tend to live. Their magic can't do much against fire.
And plus fire bad and mean and fairies not bad and not mean so they go bye bye
@@Baconator9k actually, depending on the mythology, fairies can be quite cruel!
Or just think of Firey losing Dream Island to some magic mystery crap

Tumblr came up with a great way to remember Fighting’s weakness to Flying:
“Have you ever tried to punch a bird?”
I remember seeing that from Awkward Zombie.

I thought bugs were not afraid of the dark, thats why.
When lights get turned on, most insects run away in search of shade
Oh dear why havent i ever thought of that
I think that the "alien-ness" of bugs, how truly different their minds and lives are from ours, is a factor in the bug/dark matchup.
As dark types are massive users of fear tactics, intimidation, trickery and cheating... And they just can't fathom bugs out enough to fight them.
It's Kamen Rider.

12:20 Consider that Shrek was the only knight who successfully rescued Fionna from the dragon, and Ogres are a type of fairy (just ones with more strength than magic). Fionna was not fairy/normal, she had a form changing ability that meant she was not always immune to the dragon.
Makes sense
Pokemon type concept:
Sound type
Superefectives:
Psychic, Normal
Resistances:
Sound, Ghost
Immunitys:
Fighting
Explanations:
Psychic - sound can interupt meditating and consentrating.
Normal - blast a full volume radio at a person's ear and see what happens
Immuntity explanation:
Fighting - you cannot use techniques at sound as it isn't a material
Ressistances:
Sound - do i have to explain?
Ghost - Ghosts are also known for making loud screams, And sound can make louder noises so ghost cannot competete
Supereffectives against sound:
Eletric - Shockwaves can literally negate soundwaves
Ice - BUFF ICE🗣🗣🗣🗣
For 11:40, I think that water is weak to electricity because electrifying water can cause electrolysis of water, which breaks apart the water pretty much

The "Fighting vs. Steel" matchup makes sense to me as if you're thinking of physical strength to bend a spoon, like the fighting power bends the metal.
try bending a giant iron dinosaur that's 6'11

3:51 On the top left you can see how the creature created by nerds defeated an actual physical arm. Good explanation for psychic vs fighting type.
I’m gonna use that as a reminder whenever I play Pokémon, thank you.
4:07 you could have just killed one bird to get your point across. Killing 2 birds with one stone just seems unnecessarily cruel :(
4:53 He's pulling out a watering sprayer (anon connected by the way) like he wanted to discipline him like a pet with an spray bottle.
I will ALWAYS maintain that electric should be super effective against steel. The same logic used for water being weak to electric should be applied to steel
same with Poison being SE on Water and Ground as water and soil pollution, type charts are in a dire need of an upgrade/update
@@theamazingspooderman2697Perfect proof as to why the fans shouldn't be allowed to design the type chart. If Poison were super effective on Water and Ground, in addition to Grass and Fairy, it'd be overpowered.

If you see any sexualised profile pictures report it, either it copies another comment or its just something basic like "Your videos make the day better", often with heart emojis. It's funny you mentioned Spider-Man for bug vs dark because I always thought that matchup was a Kamen Rider reference which inspired some like Lokix and Ledian
That’s probably the logic GameFreak used
he explicitly said Spider-Man was used as an example so Western audience can relate or understand, Kamen Rider is not Western
It most likely is a Kamen Rider reference, but he used Spider-Man as a reference point since Spider-Man is definitely more well known and culturally relevant to a Western audience
@@theamazingspooderman2697 I am aware he said Spider Man to relate to Westerners. I mentioned Kamen Rider because he didn't mention it at all.
For the Fairy weakness thing i have another theory:
Maybe in this case steel and poisen are representing the Industrialization, destroying the untouched Nature Fairys live in.
This is strongly shown in films anf fairytales too
I guess electricity doesnt include here, cause lightning is a Natural accurance
10:53 bend a spoon
Yeah I was gonna say they could probably bend smaller piece of metal very easily
9:18 the ground weakness is most likely be nuclear waste which could be considered under the poison type is stored under the ground
except that contaminates the ground though
Poison type's weakness to Ground types can be a bit more abstract, but it can be understood through the concept of contamination. Ground types often represent the earth and soil, which can be affected by pollution or toxins. In the Pokémon world, Ground types might represent a clean or purifying force that neutralizes poison, symbolizing how natural earth can absorb or mitigate toxins and pollutants.
Ngl i had some weird head canon that if a type resisted a certain type, it’d typically wouldn’t be effective but doing it excessively then it can eventually out do the type that’s resisting it
Netural being types that do the base amount of damage to said opposing type but wouldn’t be affective
As someone who has a horrible phobia of insects having that clip of whatever thing that was as the first clip is a horrible way to start my morning
R.I.P. 💀
that's nice to hear
it was a butterfly!
It's Kamen Rider.
I think Kamen Rider is pretty cool guy. Eh bug types and doesn't afraid of anything.
3:51 definitely remembering that better than the resistances 😂

Another reason why Bug works vs Dark is that many Fairy's in folklore, Fairy Tales and media are described and depicted with Insect Wings. So before the Fairy type existed those could have been lumped into the Bug Type for good measure :P
by that logic some Fairy had bird wings too so why is Flying not super effective on Dark then?

Another reason that fighting is weak to psychic is that psychics can predict the future there for how can you land a punch they know is coming
