The fact that she finished the whole game and didn’t just give up and switch to a different one earns all my respect cuz I got a headache just imagining playing that
You are damm right! I tried to play digimon world 4 (i guess it was?) with my 2 cousins for like 3 years before we gave up! AND WE DIDN'T EVN GOT THE CHANCE TO EVOLVE ONE DIGIMON NEITHER GET TRHOUGHT THE FIRST ACT OF THE MAIN STORY! The only good memories I got from a digimon game is fightng one wich name I can't recall... rumble arena maybe? I don't know and I don't want to bothr google with that
as someone who grew up with this game, i went from “oh she didn’t like it?” to “yeah i remember that…oh yeah i remember that too…” amazing what the child brain puts up with
Seriously! I 100%ed my file of Digimon World Dusk and I look back on it with nostalgia glasses as my favorite game ever but if I tried playing it again today I think I would put my head through a woodchipper
Yeah... I could even forgive the use cheat codes, with the me now, for Dawn and/or Dusk. The grind is much more maddening now that I'm an adult, compared to when I was a kid.
I think a lot why we put up with this kind of shit a kids, is that (if you were lucky, like me) we just had soooo much time to kill, and it didn't matter that much if the game wasted a lot of it with grinding or pointless fetch quests. I played a lot of Runescape, WoW, early Pokemon games, etc growing up, but I wouldn't consider touching those as an adult with a full time job - my free time is more valuable than that now. I still occasionally play Pokemon Showdown, though, because I can just do the actually fun parts for me: build teams, then fight strangers with them!
Lol yeah if you liked a particular franchise even if the game was terrible you somehow found things to like and look back on with nostalgia.....just dont replay it lol
I am a Digimon ANIME fan, not a digimon game fan. The games can go swimming. The shows are mostly good and the characters AGE! Development! Aaaangst! You would absolutely love the baddies of the first two seasons. Highly recommend. Heard the card game was better than the video games, but haven’t tried myself yet. Glad you like the designs! Have fun coming up with your own Digimon and its stages.
yeah i tried both Dw1 and 3 (skipped 2 because not into the gameplay) and neither are really that good mechanically. on 1 it was basically guesswork on criteria to evolve your digimon and on 3? it was pretty generic rpg but it forces you to backtrack constantly and even with "vehicle" it only save at most 4 screens vs you going to places without one.
fun fact: The card game we have now has actually been revamped pretty recently (If you count recently being a few years ago). They're completely different from the ones that were released in the 2000's
I feel the reason it was so difficult to find a game people unanimously liked is because Digimon has a record of changing up the formula with almost every new game. So you'll get people that love the tamagotchi like experience of Digimon World or those that like the traditional JRPG style of Cyber Sleuth. While some variety is nice in a franchise on occasion, the level Digimon has taken it to fans don't know what to expect so there are many folks with strong opinions on what makes a good Digimon game.
That's why it's hard to get in on the fandom, it's hard to find a game as is but the learning curve is even greater. For example she didn't mention digiconvertion and digievolution. Which has many a branching paths. etc
Street Fighter series kinda has a similar problem but to a lesser extent. 2 is a game balanced around extremely powerful tools that check each other (mostly), 3 is all about parry, 4 is dominated by setplay and option selects, 5 is mostly a frame trap game. They’re all 2D fighting games but all feel radically different
she said "bitch lasagna" in Japan Trip outro (I think it was that one), and has been known to swear frequently in collabs. I'm glad she feels more comfortable doing it
At the beginning of the video, when I was trying to think of what the best Digimon game would be, having played Digimon World 2, 3, Championship, Dawn and Dusk and knowing stuff about 1, I was thinking that Dawn/Dusk would be the best choice, because they don’t get out of control as easily as 1 and Championship do, and they’re more fun than 2, and they’re not a hellscape like 3. I remember really enjoying playing through both Dawn and Dusk-I played Dusk with an Action Replay when I was a kid, and then I played through Dawn without any hacking just a couple of years ago-so I was really surprised that someone who seems so much more experienced with gaming than me would have such a bad reaction to it...
@@autumnphillips151 you also have to remember Dawn and Dusk were made with Digimon fans in mind. If you know how evolution works in a general sense in the franchise(as an example) then the evolution trees and stat requirements might not be as daunting as to a new player, but if your new then without a proper tutorial it could come off as tedious since it could get very confusing.
You've learned the real lesson of Digimon games: You don't *find* a Digimon game you like playing, you *allow* a Digimon game to rewire your sense of fun until you're the kind of person who likes the game that's been driving you mad for hours.
@@thelittlestkovo yeah that’s one thing about this game grinding feels rewarding when you get to evolve your digimon although one thing that I hated was when my digimon didn’t have enough IQ so I had to devolve it again to then evolved again to then grand more XP to finally get the evolution I wanted to evolve it into but couldn’t because it didn’t have enough IQ or whatever is called what you needed for your digimon to reach higher levels.
as a digimon fan who’s been wanting to play a digimon game , the feeling of spending days and days researching which one is good to start with is 100% accurate 😭
I think an important initial step in the research is if you are looking to have limited party members you keep the whole time like the Digimon World games or if you want pokemon with extra steps (and guns) where you can grab yourself a whole zoo of monsters which Cyber Sleuth and Dusk/Dawn find themselves in.
Cyber Sleuth has given me the closest pokemon experience. I played pkmn since gen 1 and only found Sleuth to be more pkmn than the others. I spent hours getting all the mons due to my pokemon habbit and keep forgetting what to do next. I actually love the game enough that I got both the digital and physical copies for switch.
I love how Jaiden came out of this being like "I hated this so much, it was agony! But Digimon's kinda cool." which apparently is every Digimon fan's opinion on it.
I personally never really played any Digimon game ( I guess except for Digimon rumble Arena 2, basically a smash bros version, which was really fun) but most of them looked rather boring to me. But I really enjoyed the TV series of them. I would guess that's from where most the Digimon enjoyers come from, not from the games.
Lizards, and Salamanders, becoming legless is actually very common in Evolution. See Snakes and Cieciliains(likely misspelled but look up legless Amphibians). Still This Video is Cute and ADORABLE! Great Job and also Thank You for the English Subtitles too! :)
Yeah if you're coming from a Pokemon background I think Cyber Sleuth is a good starting point, it's easy to wrap your head around with a Pokemon mindset. Digimon World Next Order is a good example of what I consider a more "traditional" Digimon game, where the focus is more on raising and bonding with your Digimon and the fighting is kind of secondary, but it's a very specific type of game that if you aren't sure what you're getting into will probably be frustrating until you get the hang of it.
As a brand new fan, I just want to say that animating an entire game review like this is really impressive. The amount of effort YOU AND YOUR TEAM are putting into your content is not going unnoticed.
I knew it seemed rather quick that a new video was out! At first I just thought I was late to the last video and didn't realize it when I watched it, but naaah, two whole videos in a month! Jaidon's on a roll!
Recently rewatched this video and couldn't help but think you did a real good job at drawing some of the Digimon especially one of my favorites Dorugamon. Good job Jaiden.
True. I remember getting a Digimon game for PS1 as a kid and I hated it. Really wanted to like it because I loved the show so much but it wasn't for me
It's really interesting how Jaiden's experience shows that digimon is not a videogame franchise. It's a tamagochi franchise that has a lot of anime adaptation, most of them completly independent from each other, and sometimes gets some games, most of them in different genres.
Well the one she is playing is a part of the Digimon story series a long chain of loosely connected games. Typically connected by character cameos or the plots of Yggdrasil/king drasil and are all rpg style games. The World games are traditionally an open world breeder game closer to a console tamagotchi. Then you have rumble games which are the fighting game of the franchise. Then you got survive the first visual novel. Trouble is these games are not like Pokémon and usually can’t be beaten without grinding and planned and raising for certain evolution paths. You will have maxed out Digimon by the end.
@@loganjoyce5045 The Digimon Story games are connected. But yeah, the problem with Digimon games is how it's VERY varied. That being said, that is thankfully being (somewhat) managed now in terms of consistency. EX: Story games are traditional rpgs, while the current World games (Re:Digitize, Next Order) are related to the original Digimon World. As for Survive, it was supposed to be a side project. *Also, the Digimon lore will continue to be insane with or without the Digimon games. Even in the first series, the lore is a lot, especially if you go through the Adventure Light Novel.*
i seriously love digimon and every one of their games but they definitely aren't for everyone😭if anyone wanted to get into digimon id recommend watching the anime first and foremost
TBH at this point I know I ONLY like World 1 and Redigitize, the others are either generic JRPGs, or experiment with the gamedesign so hard, they are riddled with waaaaay too much bs. Also the combat in World1 and Redigitize are exactly what I always wanted to combat in pokemon to be
@@onlineskitty watching this video made me really wonder if Pokémon fans really have it all THAT bad when you take a look at Digimon games lol! Only game there that sounded appealing was cyber sleuth
@@animationdude9 honestly yeah. i see pokemon fans complaining about their games and then looking at digimon and going "this is the innovation the franchise needs!!" but honestly that just isnt true. i think pokemon fans need to realize that no matter what GF does there's never really going to be the "perfect game", someone's always gonna be unhappy. i'm just an optimist who happens to like everything. pokemon has it's faults but there are good things about it too, same with digimon.
I just found out about your nuzlocke videos and have spent my work day watching a bunch. Saw this video, and as someone who played both Digimon World Dawn and Dusk a few times, I laughed sooooo much.
@@joemitchell1796 It's the only way I can play these games anymore... quite literally because my cartridges keep crashing lol. at least it makes the grinding in the late game less painful, especially in World DS- like why is Chronomon so beefed up compared to everything else beforehand?
The most real thing about being a digimon fan is honestly just enjoying the designs. It's a very cool concept with some of the coolest looking creatures in the genre. But we have just come to accept that there will be no perfect game. Every iteration has some great things about it, but there's always a part of it that'll drag it down. (Usually the confusing/grindy story progression)
I was only exposed through the shows (which are surprisingly great, better than pokemon shows imo), but I got the feeling no one really understands how digimon are supposed to work, and everyone, fans and creators, are just in it for the cool monsters.
At least for the time being, I've seen basically nothing but praise for the TCG. That said, it's still new compared to MTG, Yugioh or Pokemon. So, there's still plenty of time for it to take the same path of power creep that those did.
Ya my personality problem with the digimon game is that most have a good concept, but they always add that one mechanique that makes game way to over the top grindy and drags it down way to much.
I normaly dont coment on youtube but, I saw this video as a pokemon and digimon lover. Watched all the animes, played pretty much every game that come out since digimon world (the bad ones I at least... Tried) so when I saw the game you choose I kinda saw what was coming. I dont know why people +/- agree that this is a good game but, well... Seeing this video omg you're a hero, a true warrior, I never completed this game in the 3 times I tried and I was cheating! What an awesome video, what a piece of art. I hope one day you'll be able to apreciate digimon and bring more content about it. Thank you for your work and to every people that helps you on youtube.
As a ginormous Digimon fan, this video was pretty eye opening. She’s right, there is no one perfect Digimon game to jump into. I can only conclude that maybe the reason we love the games stems from our love for the show.
I would honestly say to a pokemon fan that Dusk and Dawn are the most pokemon like of the games. Definitely pick up and put down type games, similar to how pokemon could end up being a grind fest before exp share was a thing. However, I'd reccomend the Switch bundle of Cyber Sleuth and Hackers Memory. I'd bought the latter on ps4 because it looked like a 3d Dusk (and was on sale). But the pick up and put down part makes it more palatable than, say, a full blown video game (if saying that even makes sense, they're not a six hour session, more a, couple of hours before work the next day, kinda pace.) Cyber sleuth takes the DS game and makes a lot of it better. Sure it can get repetitive, but at least it's far less frustrating. Hackers Memory gives new side quest mechanics too. I watched most of the first run on TV, quite a lot of the second, and some of tamers. Had the clip on digivice with renamon on it in high-school, it went off a few times at almost the worse times haha. But like, I honestly prefer the games after playing them. I think the translation of the anime was aimed at younger kids and the age demographic never went up. Tried to watch the ghosts season and couldn't get past three episodes. Probably why my mother couldn't stand digimon as a whole and always changed the channel xD
I disagree, I love the games and only watched the show after playing them. So many options and so many cool stories... sure it's not as kiddie friendly as pokemon and deciding where to start isn't as easy as picking up ANY game but that's part of the fun to me.
I grew up with both and honestly, I always thought that Digimon excelled at the show, but was poor with games- and Pokémon was meh in the show but excelled with its games.
Digimon dusk was my first digimon game as a kid and Jesus christ playing that as a kid changed me, the hours I spent playing it trying to finish it I can feel deep within my soul to this very day. I remember being stuck in the Macro sea as well and ended up drawing a map of it when I first played. Lord help us.
Yeah, buth dusk/dawn and digimon world ...dats? I believe was the other ds one, have both that really anoying, really dificult wather maze, I remember losing miself while playing it and just doing all other missions just because I didn't want to go there again... wich is a shame because I actually love digimon and like both games a lot T-T
I only played Digimon DS as a kid but had so many fond memories of it that I replayed DS and played throw Dusk and Dawn about a year ago. And yes, Marco sea was a nightmare the first time, but it was way easier the second time.
What's really funny is that I think she still chose the best Digimon game. Once you get used to the idea that your Digimon can, with the right work, turn into literally any other Digimon...it's fun.
I also played world DS, but I only got to play Dawn. What I loved is that my first born digiscaned was a pagumon and I made him go threw the Demidevimon route I was so hyped to get a Lilithmon but when I evolved to Myotismon I saw that I needed another Lilithmon. So I went backwards to use the impmon route and boy when I made Mummy boy that he was broken, he literally had the highest stats I ever saw in my team and his skills were amazing everything I had in his roster went from high AoE damage, or effects like HP, MP drain or paralyze.
As an actual fan of both franchises, I 100% recommend Cyber Sleuth, even if you're just going to play it for yourself. It's really fun and the story is pretty neat. You're like a digi detective in modern Tokyo and it's kind of noir in a fun way.
Omg I love Cyber Sleuth. It’s honestly great. The story is good but the battles are what really make me love it. They are so immersive and not even that easy all the time. The only thing is, it’s a long ass game… like I am at over 120 hours and just finished the first one. I’m now on Hacker’s memory and already spent hours upon hours on it.
Well she did point out how iy wasn't the channel content. Then again, maybe she can make a seperate video and play that, from what I hear it's really fun.
Jaiden should play cyber sleuth. Its has two different stories and unlike other games you can call digimon to you or keep them away with certain hacking skills. Its a lot of fun.
Cyber sleuth, cs hacker's memory, next order, rumble arena 1 and 2 are the only ones worth playing and I say this as a Digimon fan since I was a child. I guess Survive is ok too if you're into visual novels, although it's a hard sell. Bandai doesn't seem to know what direction to give Digimon games which is unfortunate. I think Cyber Sleuth was in the right direction imo.
I only watched a few let's plays of different digimon games and decided to get cyber sleuth without really knowing what kind of game it was Because I really got to love digimons regardless
And it is a bit better than shy-nervous-person storytime. You sort of need a lot of interesting stories for something like that which are harder to come by when you don't interact with people a ton. This is a lot more sustainable, stories are on demand.
as a digimon fan, your description of how the fandom seems like it's grasping to hope after being hurt over and over is 100% accurate. I love digimon but instead of having any consistency they rebuild everything from the ground up and I'm convinced kBandai Namco doesn't give a shit about the western side of the fanbase at all
It's the Bandai side of things that's the issue. They're basically Japanese LJN - sometimes they'll put out a great game, but they'd just as happily create three terrible or just painfully mediocre games instead. Seriously, trying to get into their work is designed to be as confusing as possible to anyone outside of a hardcore fanbase.
Nah don't worry, they don't give a shit about the japanese side either. China has the best exclusive shit but that's the thing, because of chinese legislation they probably don't get a lot of the console games either. (I don't actually know tho I haven't looked into it)
Digimon is like Marvel and DC in terms of how big their Verse is. It. Every verse and version is Canon and their worlds connect in a large multiverse. Every experience isn't meant to be exactly the same and expands a bit more and more.
@@fjorigg the grind is SO real, but is it more of a grind than any other pokemon game? Genuine question since I never finished a single pokemon game because I get bored of it pretty quick.
@@fjorigg so the grind comes from post-game and doing PvP then? Guess that makes sense since it's for kids on the playground. But as far as a game to stream/let's play, I think Cyber Sleuth would be an awesome Janimation choice for her. 🤞
As someone who has been with both Pokemon and Digimon since the very beginning I would confidently say the Cyber Sleuth games definitely would have been your best bet and I hope you play them in the future. The gameplay wouldn't be alien to a Pokemon player and the stories aren't bad at all with some nice funny moments. Also Digimon World 3, but only if you can tolerate old games like that.
Saddly, the Cyber Sleuth gales weren't translated into other language that English, deeply lowering the spreading of those games in Europe, it's a bit sad, futhermore in France where Digimon was rather popular in the 90/2000 and in a big nostalgia mood TwT
Speaking as a fan of the anime but never played any of the games before Cyber Sleuth, yeah, CS was the best game to start out for me. It satisfied what I was looking for in a Digimon game without any unnecessary complications.
Man, as a Digimon fan this was fun to watch. I love the franchise and it is definitely hard to get hyped for a lot of things in it, but it was really great seeing stuff from Jaidens perspective. I hope she gets to enjoy all the digimon she ended up liking more in Cyber Sleuth.
@sirgabrielofcandel smark She doesn't want to play it for the channel since it wasn't what she was looking for for the content, but would be interested for casual playing
This game only came out in the US and Japan, and not in Europe but I wanted it so desperately. My grandma was going on holiday to the US, so I asked her for one thing- if she could find it at a used games store over there could she get it for me. She found it on the last day, after calling around several stores, and driving all over Florida to find it. That was the best birthday gift ever and I played it for MONTHS SOLID. I loved it. I loved the art style, I loved the story, even the little fetch quests. I got so good at memorizing the maps out of muscle memory. Now that she's no longer with me, I hold this game, box, manual very dear to my heart... partly for the countless hours of joy it gave me, and partly for the effort my grandma went through to get me a copy. It holds a very very special place in my heart...
The easiest thing I can say for "getting into Digimon games" is the Anime is your gateway. From that point, the games just become "build a team of your favorites because very few Digimon are outright bad." And you go from there. Even in games like Cyber Sleuth where the Digimon-ing is a backdrop for the story to run wild against.
Glad to hear you're considering Cyber Sleuth (And Hacker's memory), both are amazing experiences that I'd say are pretty comparable to Pokemon, but with some detective work thrown in. Also, I'd say the thing that really divides Pokemon and Digimon fans is the media. Pokemon fans seem to be more into the games, whereas Digimon fans are more into the anime. Adventure 01, 02, Tamers, and maybe 2020 are great animes, with Adventure Tri and Kizuna being amazing movies that I'd recommend if you wanna get more into Digimon.
Frontier is also great. It had some weird Power- and Hight- Scaling here and there but overall was very consistent in bringing out enjoyable episodes. Also Lucemon and Koichi are top tier. Tamers to be honest has the most of my favourite moments but can get very boring for a few episodes untill they get a top scene out again. Adventure 01 and 02 great even for beginners. Never got into Data Squad. Making it Edgy doesn't equal more adult. And all this human drama was just annoying. Cross Wars/Fusion. Had the most annoying and useless main cast. (Sadly had to stop watching) But so cool side and enemy digimon. I think MC ditched his useless friends after halfway in the series because they weren't in the intro anymore and the 2 rivals looked interesting. (But I didn't wanted to fight myself to get to that point) Ghost Game, is good but has no story. All these filler non fight episodes get frustrating. Oh look another ultimate digimon while angoramon is still just a Rookie, I wonder if they win in a fight or do some other shenanigens. Oh 10 episodes were we didn't mention the plot, time for Black Tailmon to stand somewhere at the end of the episode. Adventure Reboot overall good but too fast at the start and put filler between the last two big boss fights for no reason. Taichi is in his friends episodes for no reason and the crests get no explaination and are pretty unimportant.
@@QueenOfDarknes5 Yeah I feel pretty similarly about the anime franchise. Love Adventure 1 & 2 despite their flaws, though I like Tamers just a bit more for introducing some darker moments and having them fit into the anime in a non-intrusive manner. I saw Frontier recently and while I enjoyed it more than I thought I would have, it's a hard recommend for anyone who's strapped for time. Naemon is a bean though
@@hunterkeps9058 my opinion is different by a wide margin. Adventure is fine, but it's massively overrated by the fandom. Tamers is the peak quality-wise and even though most agree, it ends up looking underrated because of how overrated Adventure is. Frontier was... okay. They tried something different, it didn't end up working too well. Savers is amazing, it's my personal favourite and I'd say it's just slightly behind Tamers quality-wise. While Tamers is more consistently good, Savers has higher highs and lower lows. Xros Wars... exists. Like, it isn't bad per se, but it gets questionable a lot. I've watched 23 episodes thus far and I've had two long breaks from it already. Tri I really dislike. The first two movies were fine, but the rest got consecutively worse and worse. They had cool ideas, but completely botched the execution. Appmon and Adventure: I haven't watched yet. Ghost Game had a really strong start, but quite a few of the later episodes are mediocre and forgettable, which hurts an episodic series far more than a serialized one.
@@growasowa3444 Appmon turned out to be FAR more enjoyable than I'd expected going into it. (The Adventure remake turned out to be far LESS enjoyable than I'd expected, even without the endless feelings of "why is this an Adventure remake? Like, just make a new series. You've changed it too much to rely on the nostalgia any more". It really felt like they'd learnt nothing from the reception to Tri.)
Jaiden and her team must really be going to their limits, I mean 2 videos a month is absolutely insane. Animation and all that is not an easy job so I’m so impressed and grateful that they’ve somehow managed to pull this off. Keep up the good work you guys. :)
The digimon fanbase is very divisive because almost every digimon game is completely different than the last. Like you said, every iteration of Digimon World is a different style of rpg. This is good in a way, because it means people with different tastes can enjoy a digimon game they enjoy, but bad because there is little to no cohesive formula in the series overall. Unlike pokemon, which has only just started to change it's formula within the last few years. Cyber Sleuths is widely considered the best overall, which means a lot in such a divisive fanbase.
@@poopikins nah, she had like 5 million subscribers at least before the nuzlockes. Obviously the nuzlocke videos are massive but if you look at any of her other storytime videos they have like 20-30 million views too which is insanely good

I wheezed when Jaiden was surprised with how Digivolution works. There's plenty like that in Digimon. My favourite has to be where an Ice Bear digimon evolves into a Giant Penguin Digimon with two huge popsicles that act as magnets (Daipenmon)

Possible hot take: it's understandable she tried to get into Digimon via the games because, in the case of Pokemon, people love it because of the games and tolerate the lukewarm anime. It's sadly the other way around with Digimon: we love Digimon because of the anime and tolerate the lukewarm games.

This video made me realize how important the path I took in the franchise was for me to enjoy it. I played dawn after watching the show and playing digimon world ds and I didn't realize how they didn't give you any proper introduction to the digimon franchise. Props for hanging in there!!!
Jaiden, I can't tell you how humbling and delighted I am to see a spreadsheet (The evolution guide at 10:40) I spent 3 days making in your video. I hope it was somewhat helpful in your journey x'D Us Digimon fans truly do torture ourselves haha
ngl as a digimon fan since childhood, i've just kind of accepted over the years that sometimes, its best to just experience some franchises as only the anime. and sometimes, digimon really feels like one of those.
As both a digimon and pokemon fan born and raised I can say I'm sorry that jaiden had to suffer the pain of digimon world dawn, but I'm proud that jaiden is attempting to make a try at enjoying the franchise
Should have played Digimon Rumble Arena imo. Easy mechanics, simple game with simple rules, and since it's just Smash with Digimon instead it's also relatively fun
As someone who absolutely loves this franchise, I think many of us still recognize that, game by game, season by season, the quality can vary wildly. Like, "Swing from A- to D+ in a year" wildly. Thanks for giving it a shot!
I was like, "She didn't mention cybersleuth, she didn't mention cybersleuth," then she mentioned it and that the community agreed it's good. Then she said it wasn't what she was looking for and a figurative table flipped in my brain
I'm not an animator, but I imagine that there are some games that just don't have the type of playthrough that lends itself to Jaiden's style of animated storytelling. Like there's a lot less Pokémon Colloseum content around than a lot of other games that are objectively worse/less loved, and there's probably a reason for that. She did say that she would probably enjoy playing cybersleuth for fun in her free time.
@@Jeshiae Yeah I agree like cyberslueth even if you do the bare minimum is still a big time investment. My first playthrough was like 55ish hours but it was even longer in real time because i decided to do the whole “tactician usb” save scumming because even that would have been shorter than just flat out grinding. Granted if you dont really care too much about what team you take to the end game you can probably cut it down to 30-40 hours because there is just so many cutscenes. But honestly the story and twists including hackers memory I really didnt expect to be so damn good like most games dont have that good of story telling and characters you end up caring about damn sure not a monster collector game. I remember after finishing it my first time I just sat there like…damn pokemon will never come close to this level of story or gameplay/building which is sad i love pokemon but the closest they have gotten to cyberslueth good was arceus which is honestly the direction i wished they continued in.
Seeing certain Digimon like Guilmon and Growlmon in Jaidens animation style just makes me really happy And her loving Digimon in the end makes me even more happy!
Should have played Cyber Sleuth. It's about as story oriented as XD and you played that for the channel. Although it does have a lot of side quest, the digimon collecting and evolution system is great and really gets you invested in raising your digimon. I actually spent so much time raising my guys that before I knew it I had all the most powerful digimon in the game before I was even halfway done with the main story. And this was my first Digimon game.
the dungeon is still horribly designed. there's barely any map anywhere and if you lost your way and stopped playing for a while you can be really lost
@Brambl if you get lost you can just talk to the chick in the digilab and she'll literally tell you what to do. It's way more friendly to returning to after a long break than most JRPGs.
I think the second Cyber Sleuth really fixed a lot of the issues with the first. But if you play the second you'll be slightly lost in the story since it's the alt side of the first.
I know right? I've been with digimon from the beginning, never stopped loving it...except Xros wars...that annoyed me, and Frontier was..well..Frontier. but the games are usually ok. Dawn was a bad choice to begin though
Digimon world Dawn/Dusk was a blast for me. The series as a whole is very grindy if you wanna get very cool endgame digimon though. If you're cool with that definitely give them a try
I consider myself to be a digimon fan, and in my 2 decades of playing their games and watching their series, I only finished 2 series and not a single game. This video resonates with me in ways I didn't think possible. Great video as always, Jaiden.
@@WolfieboyMachi For me it was only Digimon Adventure 2 and Digimon 3 Tamers, those were my favorite animes of the franchise. Now I want to watch the others. Maybe I can find out what a Digimon is :V
Cyber Sleuth was the first Digimon game I ever played and I really enjoyed it, it's basically Pokemon with more complicated breeding and only 3 types, and you have 3 on the field at once.
@@IncubiAkster I dont think we played the same game. Sure it was easy but it wasnt any grindier than any other JRPG, and after playing on both difficulties I can safely say there was no discernable difference
Im so impressed that Jaiden and her team were able to get this kinda quality out in only 2 weeks after the last episode. Mad pops thats just insane! Keep it up Jaiden!
I like how the evolution lines in digimon can cross over each other. I dug into the internet and found multiple digimon can turn into angewoman, and it blew my mind.
You can't really know what it will be except the fact they'll be Digimon, and Digimon are very cool. I'm one of those that got back to the franchise that got back to the franchise with Cyber Sleuth, and apparently I am also a Digifan now? I liked Survive, so I guess? Digimon are really cool.
Especially for someone who is coming from Pokémon games, I think Cyber Sleuth would definitely have been the choice to make. It’s got a charming story, and while not a masterpiece it’s pretty damn fun
Hacker's Memory is really good too. I've beaten it a few times and had almost gotten all the digimon in the "dex" before the disc player in my PS4 stopped taking discs. 😅
I get why she likely didn't though. A lot of the games she covers on her channel are games with more basic stories. Probably because she has to draw a summary for it.
God I hate cybersleuth so bad, haven't been able to go past the 15th chapter because the story and interactions are so cringe for me . Only good part is digivolving
It's decently fun but most of it's a drag and fluffy gameplay with lots of backtracking. I'd say I like hackers memory more fore game play, but cyber sleuth had a better story.
I actually enjoy digimon cyberslueth, it’s my first actual digimon game on consoles technically, so i naturally loved it, idk If there’s any other game that’s better, my first digimon was the one that’s a sentient cog and it’s now hiandromon ^^
"It seemed like I walked in on a fandom that has just been hurt over and over, and they're really trying to hang on to something and believe in the good of the franchise... but they've just been put through a lot." Excellent summary of the Digimon fandom. We are constantly looking for any scrap of content we can find, but a lot of the games we're given are confusing at best and deeply flawed at worst.
agreed. For now the most fun I have been having with Digimon is the VB and other vpet stuff. The anime is like the games too, they try some new gimmick and that could be a hit or miss.
Heh. I've been contemplating doing the same here lately. I vaguely remember the show from when I was a kid, and have always wanted to try a game... But yeah... This is why I haven't. XD
Would recommend cyber sleuth if you want to play a digimon game that is not going to make you want to kick a puppy. One of the few good digimon games for sure
I like that this is starting to become a gaming channel with a fun animated twist to it in order to make the content unique. Props to the team for making yet another masterpiece
@@ravimaithreyregulagedda2158 Pretty much any animator who has anything resembling a decent upload rate while maintaining a high quality of animation has a team. Jaiden may be talented, but there's no way that she could create animations of this quality, write all her scripts, and do all the editing by herself while uploading multiple videos a month.
I do love the slice of life stuff but the game stuff I can show to my friends that know nothing of JaidenAnimations and trick them into swimming in this pool of content! Most of the time they laugh even the nuzlockes though that is a different type of laughter.
Ok so, I’m not much of a Digimon fan since I’ve started thanks to my boyfriend, I started with Cyber Sleuth, and yeah, it has a Persona vibe, focusing on most of the characters, but gameplay wise, from my bf and personal experience, I believe it’s the easiest to understand and play, and the story is rather enjoyable. Hope someday you do play it. I recommend it, it’s fun. Also love your content, you’re awesome!
I had this game as a child. It was the only digimon game I have ever owned and I completely forgot about it until I saw the purple skull thing. I distinctly remember getting hard stuck (multiple times) in the first maze area and never gotten past that point. Glad to know what this game was actually absurdly hard and unintuitive to play and I wasn’t just really dumb.
I played this game as a kid too. I always remember specifically getting to like the 3rd or 4th map with the 2nd boss that was the metal lion thingy in digimon world: dusk. I beat it but literally cannot remember getting any farther.
The Digimon show is where it's really at. Idk much bout the game, but the Digimon series took over 5 years of my life growing up. I used to rewatch it regularly, as in rewatch the entirety of the first 2 seasons every month just for fun. Whilst I no longer do that, I still hype the greatness of the show
I would say the video games Cyber Sleuth and Survive are on par with the anime. World 1, ReDigitize, and Next Order too if you can get into the V-Pet RPG mechanics. And the under appreciated V-Tamer manga and Xros Wars manga. But the anime are good, especially the Japanese cuts. Sadly the American dubs of Digimon Adventure, 02, and Fusion, remove too much character depth and development.
We joke about how Pokemon has better games while Digimon has a better anime, but honestly, this video just cements how true that really is, at least in regard to the games.
I absolutely adore Digimon World Dusk, but I can 100% understand this take. I basically turn my pokemon games into Meat Grinder Simulator 2.0 every time I play, so it's not a surprise.
It might be too late for this, but like how the Pokemon anime is more of an afterthought to the game, the Digimon games are more of an afterthought to the anime. I recommend watching the original show and Digimon tamers, if you have the time. Those two are the best this franchise has to offer in my opinion, and a great entry point into this beautiful mess.
I respecfully disagree. Watch the original and the second show and MAYBE give tamers a try. I believe some people like the fourth thingy, but I'd just stop watching at that point.
I agree. Jaiden might have been looking for only a game, but Digimon was popular because of the series. So I'd also recommend watching the series to see just why people who like Digimon would put up with such games. Also, while Jaiden is trying things other than Pokemon, she should also look into the final of 90's trifecta of "children save the world via battling with a battle 'pet' like thing" Metabots.
@@Error_-ct2vp okay, that's an opinion to have, but that isn't even what they're talking about. They're talking about Digimon games to recommend, not to debate which of the franchises is better. And hey you're entitled to that opinion and to fight for it, but you're swinging your fists in the wrong direction.
Honestly they were right cyberslueth is probably the best digimon games ever created imo, it's very rare for me to get into a game like that, but I absolutely adored that game from start to finish
This could have been a completely different video if Jaiden had gone with Digimon World 1, and no I'm not saying that because I think it's better, but because I would have adored seeing her animate some of the undeniable bizarreness contained within that game.
“really trying to hang on to something and believe in the good of the franchise but they’ve just been put through a lot,” ”you know kind of like the Sonic fandom” Damn, she got us there guys, well,
Despite all the sheer agony Jaiden went through, anyone else at least want more Digi-animations? They just look so good in her style. And just glad that game didn’t poison her outlook on Digimon as a whole tbh. 😅
@@Xlllth Given the size of the games, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect some quality from them. These don't look like cheap tie-in shovelware, they seem like games designed to stand up in their own right but just... aren't very good.
As someone who grew up liking Pokemon and Digimon, the Digimon anime got fans interested and hooked on the franchise. Dubbed or subbed, the animes for both franchises were the gateway to a mystical fantasy world filled with cool monsters that kids loved. Pokemon found a formula that their fans liked and the company rewrapped future games into oblivion, with minor but largely successful spin-offs here and there. Digimon games were a trying testament to the fans' faith in the franchise - either balls-to-the-walls challenging or endless grinding for smiggets of story. I've never heard ONE objectively good Digimon game (other than Digislueth) that captured some of the magic from its show besides the character designs.
there was one called Re Digitize, but it never left Japan. (though there is a fan translation) in any case, I feel like capturing the "magic" of the show would be near impossible in game format.
As a Digimon fan, you have no idea how right you are about the "fandom that has been hurt over and over, trying to hang on to something good"

Agreed. I have that game and I had to take a week-long break from just the first hour of playing!

as someone who grew up with this game, i went from “oh she didn’t like it?” to “yeah i remember that…oh yeah i remember that too…” amazing what the child brain puts up with
Most kids never had the chance to explore lots of options cus money.
Pokemon doesn't change the formula enough while Digimon doesn't have enough consistency to stick. Figures.
@@mollywantshugs5944 Whereas the Digimon games are like if Street Fighter 3 was a turn-based tactics game and 4 was a dating simulator.

2. The game broke her so much, she actually cursed in an animation.
Surprised me too

But the pick up and put down part makes it more palatable than, say, a full blown video game (if saying that even makes sense, they're not a six hour session, more a, couple of hours before work the next day, kinda pace.)
Cyber sleuth takes the DS game and makes a lot of it better.
@@zz7073 interesting perspective, what was your first entry then, and do you think that’s the best one?
I grew up with both and honestly, I always thought that Digimon excelled at the show, but was poor with games- and Pokémon was meh in the show but excelled with its games.
Nope, I started with the games and only tolerate the shows because of the games.

Personally i found it boring pretty quickly

@@mariustan9275 She did say it was a great casual playthrough, so there's that.
Jaiden should play cyber sleuth. Its has two different stories and unlike other games you can call digimon to you or keep them away with certain hacking skills. Its a lot of fun.
The minute she said she was going to avoid the Cyber Sleuths and dive into World game of any kind, I felt nothing but pity.

You sound like you have the experience
I only watched a few let's plays of different digimon games and decided to get cyber sleuth without really knowing what kind of game it was
Because I really got to love digimons regardless
I like the fact that she turned from a storytime animator to a gamer documenting what they played, and I'm kinda fown for it
I, too, am fown for it.
And it is a bit better than shy-nervous-person storytime.
You sort of need a lot of interesting stories for something like that which are harder to come by when you don't interact with people a ton.
This is a lot more sustainable, stories are on demand.
I love it!!!
what SHE played she is a fucking girl
only so much stories to tell
as a digimon fan, your description of how the fandom seems like it's grasping to hope after being hurt over and over is 100% accurate.
(I don't actually know tho I haven't looked into it)
they dont, their bandai
" but instead of having any consistency they rebuild everything from the ground up "
Wow, it's even more like Sonic than i thought
Digimon is like Marvel and DC in terms of how big their Verse is. It. Every verse and version is Canon and their worlds connect in a large multiverse. Every experience isn't meant to be exactly the same and expands a bit more and more.
I hope she returns and plays Cyber Sleuth, it's probably the best Digimon game. It's not amazing, but I think par with any pokemon game that year/gen.
The only bad thing I can think of about cyber sleuth is its length. Great game! But very long.
@@fjorigg the grind is SO real, but is it more of a grind than any other pokemon game? Genuine question since I never finished a single pokemon game because I get bored of it pretty quick.
@@DespicableDemon pokemon games are pretty grindy too, but the story lines tend to be much shorter, from what I've experienced
If jaiden ever played cyber sleuth, she's gonna have some trouble drawing all the mega form digimons. Their designs get complex af
I really hope so it's such a good game too
She did draw Gaioumon lol
The world design is also a little bland.
Imagine drawing the royal knights💀
She'd probably get bored after the first hour. They both REALLY drag on a lot in large segments. And SO MUCH BACK TRACKING

The thousand punches bit was one of the most fun bits of animation I've seen in weeks. :P

Yeah that's how I got into digimon
I only watched the anime but never play the game and I kinda liked it
Glad to hear you're considering Cyber Sleuth (And Hacker's memory), both are amazing experiences that I'd say are pretty comparable to Pokemon, but with some detective work thrown in.
(But I didn't wanted to fight myself to get to that point)
Ghost Game, is good but has no story.
I know digimon for one thing and one thing only, Data Squad. Idc that show was straight FIRE.

I'm fairly certain that what she was looking for didn't exist. But I mean at least there was some positive to it
I'm not an animator, but I imagine that there are some games that just don't have the type of playthrough that lends itself to Jaiden's style of animated storytelling. Like there's a lot less Pokémon Colloseum content around than a lot of other games that are objectively worse/less loved, and there's probably a reason for that. She did say that she would probably enjoy playing cybersleuth for fun in her free time.
It’s understandable from her perspective. No knowledge of Digimon besides that it’s like Pokemon. She expected a game like Pokemon.

This channel has truly been a journey, I’ve only been here for 2 years, but this is an extreme growth! Good job Jaiden.
Pokemon was originally a popular game. Digimon was originally a popular manga. It makes sense that a pokemon game is better than a digimon game.
@@EpicNerdsWithCameras although in terms of graphics Digimon beats out pokemon any day lmao
They remade the 1st season of Digimon
I absolutely adore Digimon World Dusk, but I can 100% understand this take. I basically turn my pokemon games into Meat Grinder Simulator 2.0 every time I play, so it's not a surprise.
The amount of Digimons you drew, you have my utmost respect. Digimons are so hard to draw.
Well I know it’s not the same thing but I’m drawing every single Pokémon in a paper to put it on my wall (separated by gens of course)
@@Poppydoesstuffthat sounds really cool!
@@regfcvbn7424 thx!
@@NahrAlma Every series has its fans, but I do agree it falls off hard after Frontier in a lot of ways.
100% agree
@@angelicmew740 That or beyblade lol.
Digimon World DS wouldn’t have been bad either. I wasn’t a fan of Dawn and Dusk.
No. Pokémon is better
Guys, it’s a bot…
I was thinking of the exact same thing. Digimon cyber sleuth would have definitely been her best bet if she wanted something pokemon-like
Honestly they were right cyberslueth is probably the best digimon games ever created imo, it's very rare for me to get into a game like that, but I absolutely adored that game from start to finish
This could have been a completely different video if Jaiden had gone with Digimon World 1, and no I'm not saying that because I think it's better, but because I would have adored seeing her animate some of the undeniable bizarreness contained within that game.
Ah, yes, the "take your pet to poo at the bathroom otherwise they become poo itself" game.

Despite all the sheer agony Jaiden went through, anyone else at least want more Digi-animations? They just look so good in her style. And just glad that game didn’t poison her outlook on Digimon as a whole tbh. 😅
@@Xlllth what games have you played?
@@Xlllth Given the size of the games, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect some quality from them. These don't look like cheap tie-in shovelware, they seem like games designed to stand up in their own right but just... aren't very good.

I dont care about the topic, i want more of her agony
We need a new episode with her trying digimon world data squad. That game is way better than dawn
(though there is a fan translation)
in any case, I feel like capturing the "magic" of the show would be near impossible in game format.
I wast looking to read an artical
