I like the interesting create-a-monster concept and how the game seems to pull it off surprisingly well despite possible odd-looking designs. Was surprised how you can draw the monster and it comes out pretty accurate to what you drew.
Just have to say that I love Nathans. He just radiates "fren" energy.
My grandma bought this game for me when I was a kid and it frustrated the hell outta me, so much that I ended up selling it. Years later I realized that I actually enjoyed the game so I bought it again off ebay. I'm glad this game is getting some well deserved exposure!

Actually, I played this game. I bought a copy of it, even. As a kid, I didn't get how to make complex and cool creatures, so I just did whatever my imagination would come up with out of the parts I had available. It was a doofy game, but fun in its own way.
Did you struggle as much as Jaiden did for water skip crusher?
@@muffinking6088 I'll say that it was hard to fully understand at first, and learning each additional variation came with a new challenge. Once you get what's going on though, it's not SO hard.
I played it, it was at blockbuster to rent so I had it a few times. Th creative process was fun as hell but I got bored after a bit.

As someone else who bought this game and played it as an adult, I can tell you that it isn't your fault that that water slide game is hard. I restarted the whole game, made my monster to be specifically good at that mini game according to the associated stats, and still couldn't even get close. The flicking portion is just not well coded. Never made it past that point, just put it back in the case and let it collect dust

I love how everything is always perfectly drawn, doesn't matter the franchise or complexity; the Pokemons on the Nuzlocks, the stages on the Mario Kaizo video, even those weird and overwhelmingly complicated-looking creatures on Amazing Island. You don't take shortcuts in animating them on top of drawing them perfectly always. You are the really amazing one here

I remember playing this as a kid. Kinda wish this got a modern sequel with touch screen controls for making the monsters, cause if you thought drawing with a mouse was hard, try drawing with a control stick!
At 0:25 it's the Hylian text from wind waker. When deciphered into Japanese Katakana, it's バテチオ テコヘケホ クカテ ヘコカケ ヘスセネ, which to me sounds like a bunch of nonesense. It could be some obscure reference that I don't understand, it's probably just actual nonesense though. Regardless, I appreciate the Wind Waker reference! It's one of my favorite games!

Thank you for playing my literal childhood! I probably put 100s of hours into this game back in the day.
I loved this game so much as a kid and just kind of assumed I was the only person who ever played it because at no point has anyone talked about it ever. But I literally made some of my creations in this game into actual RP characters that I still use to this day. This game has zero business being as good as it is and I'm glad it still holds up and my opinion of it isn't just nostalgia.
Agreed. The minigames get old after too long, but I kept coming back to the monster maker. The only other gamecube game with that "This is obviously intended for very young children" target audience that I'd come back to after all this time is probably Gotcha Force.

I tried playing this game on an emulator once. Couldn’t get past the first set of trials because Waterskip Slider required me to mash the button faster than I was physically capable of doing *while* managing every other thing you need to do in that minigame. Gave up after 16+ attempts and deleted the ISO.
I feel bad for any kid that got this game and couldn’t progress because of how ludicrously high the skill ceiling is
That's pretty much why I quit back in the day.
If you’ve played sonic forces before you would know that in the end it requires you to press the button multiple times super fast and I could not for the life of me do it so I had to have someone do it fire me :(
so there's this thing, apparently this minigame is straight up broken on emulator.
Emulators are impossible to get timing right in, they’re always slightly slower than the real game/console so your button presses and visuals will never line up. I don’t think you could play this on an emulator.
The button mash is super hard though. There’s no game with faster button pressing.

Jaiden if you didn't know already, fossil fighters has a sequel: Fossile Fighters: Champions! It makes a tiny bit more sense than the original and has new mechanics! It's probably my favourite game of all time and I love it. I would really appreciate if you played it because there is pretty much no playthroughs of it :D

Graffiti Kingdom would be a dope follow up it's got a similar creature creator feature and I've never really seen anyone talk about it.
It's crazy how this game was a part of my childhood, was essentially ripped away from me, and I spent the next decade afterwards with it living rent free in my head and no matter how hard I tried I could not think of what the game was called. Then as easily as I brought it up in conversation to my friend, he figured out what it's called, then in that very year two awesome RUclipsrs make videos on it. Kinda loosing my mind over the now...

I Really Wish That There Were More Games That Started With Personality Quizzes
Amazing Island consumed a majority of my free time when I was a preteen. Absolutely love this game
To those who enjoy the monster drawing/creation mechanic, I'd also like to recommend Magic Pengel: The quest for color, which is the only other game that uses the exact same technology. That game is more of a pokemon-esque RPG where you create your own monsters, but I love it a lot!!
Sorta like Spore? i have never played it, but it has a huge range of customization
@@bruh438 Sure, but Spore gives you a library of parts to stick onto your creature. In Magic pengel, you literally draw the body, head, and each limb all by yourself!
To do it, you angle the body any way you want then draw the part in 2D, which the program converts to a 3d shape. So you choose "arm", make a dot on the body to signify where the the arm stems from, draw an arm shape...or any shape really and poof, it's there and it moves like an arm. There's also options for softer parts like a tail or hair, hard parts for things like horns and you can even draw them a weapon.
And they all affect how the creature battles, it's so cool to me.
Is it anything like Graffiti Kingdom? In that you also have to (essentially) make your creations from scratch by drawing all the individual parts from what I remember of it.
