In answer to your questioning the interaction between steel/water and electric, I think I have an answer. The water type isn't just water itself. Much like the flying type, it also represents the creatures living within it. If a body of water is electrified, most fish living within that body of water will die. So it's not just that water is an excellent conductor, it's that the fish inside the water are vulnerable to it as well
That or when an electrical current is passed through mineral-dense water, the water molecules break down into hydrogen and oxygen gas while the metal cables stay intact.
I have another idea of why rock is weak to ground: Sand (ground) blows up against rocks and slowly changes the shape, or in other words wearing them away (abrasion)
Something to add to Fighting types resisting Dark attacks: I remember someone saying that martial artists are often taught techniques that counter underhanded tricks.

If psychic is the type of the mind, it makes intuitive sense to think that a common phobia, bugs, are a weakness of it. Not because psychics are afraid of bugs xd
Psychics are afraid of bugs because even with powerful intelligence, psychics cannot read the thinking of bugs so they cannot predict their actions and that makes bugs an exceptional fear to psychics.
Hence why I can't stand Fighting and Fairy types. Bug types are more of an annoyance. (They are the literal definition of the phrase, "useless insect".)
I think that electric type being super effective against water and not to steel makes sense because water type pokemon are made of flesh and they are just covered by water, so they would get hurt if an electric discharge hits them, while steel type pokemon are made of iron, they don't have flesh, so a discharge would only pass through their body without damaging them
Plus people working with electricity wear full-body mail suits. The electricity conducts through the metal better than flesh, and it’d rather go through the suit rather than the worker. Allen Pan has a video where he messes with a Tesla coil and he’s in full-body mail.

TVTropes explained Fairy a bit better. Copypasting from their Fridge Logic page on the types: 'Dazzling Gleam'? 'Charm'? 'Play Rough'? 'Disarming Voice'? What is this nonsense? Well, Fairy-type attacks involve the Pokémon using its beauty, charm, and feminine wiles to throw the opponent off guard. It's about being able to attack the opponent while giving off the guise of being harmless and innocent. Hell, 'Play Rough' is essentially beating the crap out of the opponent under the facade of 'playing' with them. So when you think about it... the Fairy type and the Dark type are two sides of the same coin. Both use manipulative tactics to their advantage, but the Fairy type is more subtle about it. Fairy beating Dark isn't just a matter of light driving out darkness... it's a matter of using one's charisma and guile to beat the dirty thugs at their own game. This also explains why the Fairy type is strong against Fighting. Martial artists are often taught to only use their strength for self-defense, and not to victimize innocent people. Thus, they'd naturally be inclined to hold back against the seemingly innocent Fairy type.
@@hammerstix5791 An explanation for Moonblast: Certain Pokemon types can have multiple origins. In the case of Fairy type, some of its moves utilize light magic.
The water and steel interactions with electric make sense when you think about their attacks. Water attacks or maybe even water pokemon would leave the battlefield wet allowing for a more direct path to the water pokemon, steel attacks most likely wouldn't have this issue.
Ghost and Normal can't affect each other: In my mind, normal types are the pokemon which most closely resemble humans, which can't interact with ghosts. Therefore, Normal types too, cannot interact with ghosts. Dragon Ghost, because ghosts can touch each other, so a ghost slapping another ghost would hurt them. Rock > Flying. You can kill two birds with one stone. Dark > Ghost, good spirits can become evil spirits. Steel > Fairy. In many stories, metal can harm or even burn fairies at the touch. Dragon resists Fire, Water, Grass, and Electric, yet is weak to Ice because dragons are reptilian and cold-blooded. Poison is not very effective against ghost because spirits have no body to poison. Water drowns out Fire, Rock and even solid Ground. Fire can be extinguished by throwing water, sand or rocks on it. Water type weaknesses electric, grass. * Plants absorb water * Electricity flows through water and kills everything in it Grass's weaknesses: fire, ice, bug, flying, poison. * What are the things that can hurt a plant? Plants are weak to extreme weather conditions (fire, ice), bugs and birds eating them, and poison. Ice's weaknesses: fire, rock, steel, fighting. Fighting weaknesses: psychic, flying, fairy. * If you rely on pure strength only, you can be easily outsmarted (psychic) * A fighter can't throw punches at a flying target, while the bird can pick it's moment and strike (flying) * Fairy represents the forces of nature and ageing has the most detrimental effect on a fighter's abilities (fairy) Poison's weaknesses: Ground, Psychic. * The earth absorbs the poison. * While the body can be poisoned, the mind is something meta-physical and has the upper hand over poison. Ground's weaknesses: Grass, Water, Ice. Dragon's weaknesses: Dragon, Fairy, Ice.
By the ghost logic, everything should be super effective against themselves. Ghosts can hurt ghosts Bugs can eat other bugs Animals(normal types) can hurt/eat other animals Master martial artists can do serious damage to other martial artists Birds can hurt other birds And a lot other than that I see what you are trying to say but I don't think ghost should be super effective against ghosts. The moves doing neutral damage to eachother would make the most sense.
I think another reason bugs are strong against dark is because of the religious and folklore significance a lot of bugs have in Japanese culture and how they’re seen as protecting against evil and dark spirits. Especially given the whole dark type being evil type in Japan thing.

alternative explanation for water being weak to electric: the process called "electrolysis" is a process consisting of passing an electrical current in water, breaking the bonds between the hydrogen and oxygen atoms, basically breaking the water molecules
You could use the actual darkness argument for both psychic and ghost weaknesses. A lot of people are actually scared of the darkness too and ghost are usually limited to only appearing at night so it has control over ghosts.
Darkness is actually represented by Ghost type. Since night and darkness is where ghosts can mainly appear and act, it makes no sense they’re weak to darkness. It’s more likely the explaination is the one said in the video
4:10 I think I have a better explanation for flying: Electricity is wild and unpredictable in movement, and is hard to avoid midair. In fact, in the air you are quit open to electric attack for its speeds could catch you off guard. Not my best explanation, but I think this also is an applicable reason
These explanations are so bad. Even the one for why ice beats flying "because frozen wings wouldn't work well" wtf. Birds literally migrate in winter, they can't handle the cold and flee from it. Bird eggs must be kept warm or the baby dies.
I always thought Psychic’s superiority to Poison as of our ability to learn of various poisons and toxins and how we can not only build a tolerance or immunity, like Michael said, but also how we have studied and learned from them so much to the point we created vaccines and medications/antibodies (like in antivenom) and treatment to diseases.
I myself thought it was because of famous mind games involving poisoned drinks, like that one scene from The Princess Bride where the main protagonist challenges an opponent to a battle of the wits: Two drinks, one is poisoned.
@@OhCrapI_He that the one when they were both actually poisoned but the protagonist lived only because he exposed himself to it to the point he built up a tolerance to it?

Also for electric being super effective on flying types, birds when they fly are more elevated in the air and lightning likes to strike more elevated objects
Lightning wants to move to ground. A bird in the air is not a path to ground, but rather a freak accident. Taller objects get hit because air is actually not a great conductor relative to things sticking up out of the ground so the fastest and easiest path to ground is through those objects.
@@dominiquediva If they’re only touching one line, most of the electricity will flow through the line and bypass the bird as the resistance of the wires is much lower than that of the bird’s body. I’m not sure off hand if this small amount is ever enough to harm the birds or not. Now, if it touches two lines at once, it now becomes a path between those two and extra crispy.
@@lq7777 the ground has nothing to do with it, lightning is a flow of electrons and lightning doesn’t choose where it strikes, it is drawn to its striking point by positive charge, this can be any object, most often the ground but if there are any objects closer to the Lightning’s origin (closer to the sky) they can possibly have a stronger Coloumbian attraction, thus, the point of the type effectiveness being that birds are more prone to lightning strikes being higher in the air
Steel isn’t weak to Electric because while metal is a great conductor of electricity, it wouldn’t really get damaged by the electricity passing through it. Whereas, with Water type, if you were to use an Electro Ball on an animal that is almost always soaking wet, it’s gonna take some damage. If anything, Steel should be more likely to get paralyzed, since the electricity passes all around the body of the Pokémon. Similar to how Water types are more likely to get frozen
If anything steel should be immune to electric cause it's great conductor. Also lightning rods exist. Too bad it isn't.. And water is weak because electrolysis.. And lightning being very hot so water just evaporates if struck by one.
@@enoraltheoutcast I see what you mean, but Lighting Rod is already an ability, so clearly it’s been established that that logic only applies to *some* cases. Plus, lightning rods in real life only really work when grounded, which is why Ground is immune to Electric. The only things that make sense is to make Steel weak to Electric or be paralyzed more often from Electric, and having Steel be weak to Electric would be boring.
Then if possible, what do people think about when Hawlucha was added with the Flying/Fighting type combo plus the move Flying Press which does damage to Flying and fighting. ?
Ghost seems like a natural typing to add to the fairy type's weaknesses. negative energy against their positive, or even more precise, death taking away life.
And it works really well. Its only weaknesses are then Ghost and Steel, and the only Pokemon that can resist both are Normal types with a secondary type that resists Fairy, which is only Grafaiai and Pyroar.
Dark also represents literal darkness. It's weak to Bug and Fairy as both bugs and fairies glow... In the dark. It's also works better for Psychic's weakness to it as fear of the dark is far more common than fear of evil. Usually people just hate evil people. Dragon's resistances can all be reasoned that it is the end boss type. How do you make the end boss strong? Make it resist the 4 starter Pokemon.
Dark is called the Evil Type in Japan, where Pokémon originates from. It does not represent literal darkness, it represents what it was originally called, evilness.
@@abrahamlincoln9160 I think you're forgetting one of the key features of Pokemon: everything has multiple origins. Likewise, Grass isn't just mons that are grass. There are plants and fungi of all kinds. Also the same as Fairy being more than just fairies. It more represents nature magic and 'fairy' is the closest, catchiest way to describe it in one word. Dark and Evil both equate to the things that go bump in the night, which are revealed when Bugs and Fairies shed their light on them.
@@PieaterProducts But hardly any Dark types look like they'd hide in actual darkness. Most of them do however look evil or at the very least mischievous. And most Bug pokémon don't shed any light at all, there's only like a couple of them where that's part of their design. And for that matter, most Fairies don't naturally shed light either. I guess they could with a moonblast... But by that logic, both Fire and Electric should be super effective against Dark, too.
@@antoniomolinatorres3873 If we're bringing up everything that should be, but isn't, a type interaction, Ghost would be very weak. Ghosts should be weak to Water and Fire as those are well-known weaknesses of the undead. As for not all members of a type following the exact standard, I suppose Fire types are incredibly rare, seeing as very few are actually on fire.
Fun fact: Back in Gen 1, Bug and Poison were supereffective against each other. Poison beating Bug would make sense, insecticides are a common way to kill bugs after all. It's also odd that Poison doesn't beat Water, since pollution can be very toxic to fish and other sea creatures. Steel should be super effective against Dragon due to stories of knights in shining armor defeating Dragons with swords, lances, or arrows.
Water can dilute poison so that’s why it resists it. If you get a cut on your finger, you usually run water through it to wash away the poison/infect ants.

Ironically, it is literally called the Evil Type back in Japan. Not to mention most of the moves consist of underhanded tactics, doing cruel things, or bullying the opponent.
@@extremeboss5282 Or maybe it’s that Japanese is not a very well-rounded language. The only word that means “dark” in Japanese refers to the literal lack of light. “Dark” can be seen as more of a slang for “evil” in English, and not all English slang has slang Japanese translation, only literal.

Fu Tiffany or it’s because apparently game freak likes to think of dragons as the dark side and negativity, and should be completely useless against good fairy’s even though fairy’s can be a corrupt fairy. At least make Dragon effective or not very effective.
That's because Dragons are seen as evil, corrupted creatures in mythology while Fairies were seen as semi-divine creatures. This also would explain why they're immune to dragon type attacks. Dragons were also seen as indestructible to anything other than magic for what I've seen, so Fairy being a magic type makes it strong against dragon types.
"Fairy is immune to dragon, because they are both magical creatures and it is clear that dragon magic is far outclassed by fairy magic" "Logical explanations for all of them" ...hmmm ok.
He could have done a better job explaining it but the logic does hold up. In classic mythology Fae creatures can be among the most powerful while dragons (at least in western myth) are just big brutes who wouldn't really effect a fairy much if at all.

I'm glad you revisited these videos; they're some of my favorites from back when I first found your channel. I must know, who did all the cute little stick figure drawings? And yeah, Steel not being weak to Electric bothers me, too.
I would say steel conducts electricity too well, too efficiently. Can easily redirect it away to the ground, and unlike most water types, doesn't have fleshy bits to be hurt.
steel: well steel can PROTECT YOU IN THUNDER STORMS cause it a great conductor because it never touches the skin of the Pokemon if it's covered or made out of steel SOOO that's why steel isn't weak to Electric. But it would hurt
I'm still stuck on the reason why fairy is resistant to bug. I guess maybe a bug couldn't do much to hurt a fairy, but that just doesn't seem like a good enough argument. Especially when there are already so many other types that resist bug.
There is no light type because Fairy already exists. Fairies are angels, angels are created by light. Fairies also represents shiny beautiness. You know bugs are attracted by light. They even fall in traps due to light. So I think Fairies should be super effective against Bugs.
In most fantasy stuff, fairies live among bugs and insects because they are small like fairies. Like for example you always see butterflies also associated with fairies. So since fey live in nature with lots of bugs it makes sense that they know how they work and to defend against them. Also another reason is because sometimes fairies are seen as half-bug and half-human like how fairies have butterfly wings for example
This is because faeries have a friendly relationship with bugs in nature and sometimes faeries have the features of bugs as far as their appearance. If you have seen the movie Tinkerbell this would make sense.
Also, the biggest fear of flying in airplanes is associated with thunderstorms. A lightning strike is the most common threat to an airplane. That's why commercial planes fly so high these days. At the altitude in which they fly, so I heard, air is far less dense, and rumors have it that gas in the air may begin to transcend into plasma. At that altitude, airplanes literally fly above all weather conditions.
If anything I think it should be neutral. Yes ice freezes water but it would take too long to completely freeze a massive body of water. When water freezes it's really only the top layer.
No, because on a normal temperature a cube of ice tge exact volume of a body of water would not be able to freeze the water, instead the ice would melt.
I feel like in certain cases water should be weak to ice because it converts into ice in cold enough temperatures but at the same time it's very true that ice would just float above many liquids and melt if left for a long enough time period
What do you think about a new Rubber type which is opposite of steel?? Its a electricity and heat insulator. Also its so flexible and cant be broken. So It will resist Electricity, Steel, Fighting, Rock, Fire and Ice. Rubber is also near to Sponge, Jelly, Spring, Foams. There are some rubberlike pokemons too like Woffbuffet, Grumpig, Jellicent, spoink, Ditto, Swalot etc. Rubberlike things are very common in our life. Rubber will be strong against Electricity, Ground and Sound. Electricity will finally get 2nd weakness. Ground becoz we clean dirts with rubberlike things.
6:46 He says, "If you can kill two birds with one stone, you could probably kill quite a few more with one." Edit: I meant when he was explaining flying weaknesses and resistances
Thinking of slightly changing some resistances for my own project. Truly, it's all in the name of balancing the types in general. These aren't even all my original ideas - I'm not that good - but here are the reasonings behind them. Tell me what you think? Giving Bug resistance to Fairy - implying the two are natural rivals Giving Bug resistance to Psychic - referring to the hivemind nature of bugs Giving Bug immunity to Confusion - same hivemind argument Taking Fairy's resistance to Bug - expounding on the two being rivals Giving Ice resistance to Water - cold can freeze water before it thaws ice Giving Ice resistance to Flying - expounds on ice's existing threat to flying Giving Ice immunity to Burning - ice can melt but ice does not burn Taking Fire's resistance to Ice - ice can douse a fire Giving Grass resistance to Fairy - fairy magic does not harm plants Taking Dragon's resistance to Grass - grass being the most physical of the elemental types Giving Dragon resistance to Normal - pretty self-explanatory Giving Dragon strength against Steel - makes dragon, steel and fairy a type triangle Giving Normal resistance to Dragon - less self-explanatory, idea is dragon magic does not harm regular animals
I had some ideas: Make bug and fairy and bug and grass resist each other (all friends, but bugs still eat grass) Make Ice and water neutral against each other (same reasoning as yours). Steel is weak to electric (conduction) Ice actually can burn. And if you want to be really wild, water's weak to fire (fire evaporates water, like it melts ice. You could also play with dark and fighting.

basically yeah
Yeah but at least you can punch the dark
Think of it this way. You wind up to do a round house kick expecting to hit something then miss completely and hurt yourself
In answer to your questioning the interaction between steel/water and electric, I think I have an answer.
The water type isn't just water itself. Much like the flying type, it also represents the creatures living within it. If a body of water is electrified, most fish living within that body of water will die. So it's not just that water is an excellent conductor, it's that the fish inside the water are vulnerable to it as well
That’s what I was thinking
That or when an electrical current is passed through mineral-dense water, the water molecules break down into hydrogen and oxygen gas while the metal cables stay intact.

@@qykolas Well, Marill is a mammal, I don't know the exact inspiration but if Azumarill is a rabbit, Marill has to be a mammal as well, so he is an "animal" and his body is made of flesh like other water type pokemon
@@qykolas ok, but also human skin repels water but an electric strike would kill us. But even if Marill goes against my thesis I think it would be one of the few exceptions
Wait I'm confused so with water conducting electricity if chinchou or Lantern does an electric attack in the water are they hurting themselves?
TVTropes explained Fairy a bit better. Copypasting from their Fridge Logic page on the types:
'Dazzling Gleam'?

Why does Dark resist Ghosts?
doesn’t everyone’s though?
* Plants absorb water
* Electricity flows through water and kills everything in it
Grass's weaknesses: fire, ice, bug, flying, poison.
* What are the things that can hurt a plant? Plants are weak to extreme weather conditions (fire, ice), bugs and birds eating them, and poison.
Ice's weaknesses: fire, rock, steel, fighting.
Fighting weaknesses: psychic, flying, fairy.
* If you rely on pure strength only, you can be easily outsmarted (psychic)
* A fighter can't throw punches at a flying target, while the bird can pick it's moment and strike (flying)
* Fairy represents the forces of nature and ageing has the most detrimental effect on a fighter's abilities (fairy)
Poison's weaknesses: Ground, Psychic.
* The earth absorbs the poison.
* While the body can be poisoned, the mind is something meta-physical and has the upper hand over poison.
Ground's weaknesses: Grass, Water, Ice.
Dragon's weaknesses: Dragon, Fairy, Ice.
also Kamen Rider
“This kid is insane man”-Aaron Burr, Hamilton
WHY IS THIS SO UNDERRATED
By the ghost logic, everything should be super effective against themselves.
Ghosts can hurt ghosts
Bugs can eat other bugs
Animals(normal types) can hurt/eat other animals
Master martial artists can do serious damage to other martial artists
Birds can hurt other birds
And a lot other than that
I see what you are trying to say but I don't think ghost should be super effective against ghosts. The moves doing neutral damage to eachother would make the most sense.

alternative explanation for water being weak to electric: the process called "electrolysis" is a process consisting of passing an electrical current in water, breaking the bonds between the hydrogen and oxygen atoms, basically breaking the water molecules
Makes sense
I did not understand a word you just said.
Adding electricity to water makes it turn into a gas, there fore destroying the water. This does not happen to steel/metal as easily.
Just look up lighting hitting water
completely agree. Chemistry for the win
CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR
I like ghosts
Wait why am I apart of this conversation
4:10 I think I have a better explanation for flying: Electricity is wild and unpredictable in movement, and is hard to avoid midair. In fact, in the air you are quit open to electric attack for its speeds could catch you off guard. Not my best explanation, but I think this also is an applicable reason
I thought of it as a bird getting struck by lightning, lightning tries to find the closest object to hit so a bird who is closer will be hit
Exactly, its wings would get paralyzed. Also, if to wanna associate Flying with air/wind, clouds get struck by sheet lightning.
I thought they like used there kind to push out the poison of the body
"Vaccines cause autism though!" - Some idiot karen
And the fact that mind readers could probably see any poison attempt coming and avoid or plan for it.

Birds fly into power lines & that doesn't go well for them, is how I remember it
@@dominiquediva lmao that too
Lightning wants to move to ground.

Ghost-Pokemon, even without 'Levitate' should

Charly Omega992 you sure about that bud
That’s explained in fairy tail
For the Ice-Ground thing, I have always considered how glaciers can remove enormous chunks of earth from the ground and form valleys.
"Fairy is immune to dragon, because they are both magical creatures and it is clear that dragon magic is far outclassed by fairy magic"
"Logical explanations for all of them"
...hmmm ok.
He could have done a better job explaining it but the logic does hold up. In classic mythology Fae creatures can be among the most powerful while dragons (at least in western myth) are just big brutes who wouldn't really effect a fairy much if at all.
Dragons are less capable of cognitive thought, therefore they won't be as good with magic.
Any DnD player that has fought an ancient dragon knows this is certainly not the case lol Dragon's in DnD can be smarter than the average human and they have the potential to outclass most wizards with their magical abilities :)
Better explanation: Many kids play Pokémon, good will prevail. Dragons are usually put on the evil side, fairys will be associated with the good side.
@@robertcales8544 DnD is just a game, the REAL history of dragons/fairies proves otherwise, although i respect your input they base the game not on DnD rules

Thank you! And I made them ^-^
I would say steel conducts electricity too well, too efficiently. Can easily redirect it away to the ground, and unlike most water types, doesn't have fleshy bits to be hurt.
steel: well steel can PROTECT YOU IN THUNDER STORMS cause it a great conductor because it never touches the skin of the Pokemon if it's covered or made out of steel SOOO that's why steel isn't weak to

I'm still stuck on the reason why fairy is resistant to bug. I guess maybe a bug couldn't do much to hurt a fairy, but that just doesn't seem like a good enough argument. Especially when there are already so many other types that resist bug.
@@qykolas nope. Thats not
There is no light type because Fairy already exists.
Electric is super effective against flying cuz...
... lightning vs birds
⚡️wins
That is still not a explanation but i agree wit u
Unless you’re Zapdos, tHEN YOU BECOMES STRONGAR
Yes
Also, the biggest fear of flying in airplanes is associated with thunderstorms. A lightning strike is the most common threat to an airplane.
That's why commercial planes fly so high these days. At the altitude in which they fly, so I heard, air is far less dense, and rumors have it that gas in the air may begin to transcend into plasma. At that altitude, airplanes literally fly above all weather conditions.

I always thought Water should have been weak to Ice
Because water gets frozen by ice, thus not being water anymore
If anything I think it should be neutral. Yes ice freezes water but it would take too long to completely freeze a massive body of water. When water freezes it's really only the top layer.
No, because on a normal temperature a cube of ice tge exact volume of a body of water would not be able to freeze the water, instead the ice would melt.
I also think ice and fire should be neutral because fire melts ice but then the ice puts out the fire because it is water jow
Nope . Water gets frozen by the coldness . Not ice .
@@hubertbrownold6527 ...Ice is normally cold. ...You know that, right?
I feel like in certain cases water should be weak to ice because it converts into ice in cold enough temperatures but at the same time it's very true that ice would just float above many liquids and melt if left for a long enough time period

I still find dragon types really weird because of the lack of types it is super effective against
What do you think about a new Rubber type which is opposite of steel??
I know right it is like a normal type clone but the only exception is that dragon is ONLY strong against itself.

With the nature logic, doesn't that mean that fire should be super effective against fairy? 🤔🤔🤔

That is a very good question. Wild fires destroy nature such as animals trees and grass so it would be logical for the fairy type to be weak to fire

I don't know what I was thinking, but I edited it out
Thinking of slightly changing some resistances for my own project. Truly, it's all in the name of balancing the types in general. These aren't even all my original ideas - I'm not that good - but here are the reasonings behind them. Tell me what you think?
Giving Bug resistance to Fairy - implying the two are natural rivals
Giving Bug resistance to Psychic - referring to the hivemind nature of bugs
Giving Bug immunity to Confusion - same hivemind argument
Taking Fairy's resistance to Bug - expounding on the two being rivals
Giving Ice resistance to Water - cold can freeze water before it thaws ice
Giving Ice resistance to Flying - expounds on ice's existing threat to flying
Giving Ice immunity to Burning - ice can melt but ice does not burn
Taking Fire's resistance to Ice - ice can douse a fire
Giving Grass resistance to Fairy - fairy magic does not harm plants
Taking Dragon's resistance to Grass - grass being the most physical of the elemental types
Giving Dragon resistance to Normal - pretty self-explanatory
Giving Dragon strength against Steel - makes dragon, steel and fairy a type triangle
Giving Normal resistance to Dragon - less self-explanatory, idea is dragon magic does not harm regular animals
I had some ideas:
Make bug and fairy and bug and grass resist each other (all friends, but bugs still eat grass)
Make Ice and water neutral against each other (same reasoning as yours).
Steel is weak to electric (conduction)
Ice actually can burn.
And if you want to be really wild, water's weak to fire (fire evaporates water, like it melts ice. You could also play with dark and fighting.
