@@gooey448 just watched the video. First off hight is inconsistent in the anime you can't use that to determine Ash is older then ten. Next, just because Ash looks feels and act different, he is still ten, and has moments to remind you of that, such as Ash being Goofy. And also the reason Ash acts mature is because the director wanted a "Cool Ash" so all this is to say, he is not 16 15 14, but 10. Plus he is ten in future series if he really did age up be wouldn't be ten in alola and journeys. So once again, it's a lie based on facts, that are glazing at best. Sorry but these things just work me up, I hate misinformation. Hopefully this will help you improve for the future. :3

Greninja didn’t choose Ash because he was “worthy” or thought he’d make him stronger. It’s stated by Olympia that Greninja left all its previous trainers because a trainer wasn’t what it wanted. She says it’s because it wanted someone equal, someone it could love and be loved by. And I don’t think greninja left after Wulfric because of Ash, I remember a scene that heavily implied Greninja was going through the same thing as Ash, i.e. blaming itself for their loss and feeling spiritually defeated by their loosing streak. They both felt they failed each other and that’s why both ran off
8th grade me was OBSESSED with the Ash-Greninja plotline to the point it's become a core memory of my middle school days. My fav moments were the ones where people first reacted to the bond phenomenon and went "WOAH WHAT IS THAT?!". Ash's depression arc was the definition of peak fiction, and I learned the Japanese opening (Iku Z!) by heart. It's so embarrassing cuz I would walk up to classmates and flex that I new the Japanese lyrics, very cringe inducing LOOL. I loved the sun and moon anime, and I might actually prefer it overall, but NOTHING will ever reach the peaks and the hype I felt from the XYZ anime. It's always a treat whenever someone makes a video about the XYZ anime so thanks!
Iku Z is still one of my favourite anime openings. And yes, one of my best friends currently bonded with me in middle school thanks to Pokemon XYZ (Ash Greninja). I was a huge fan of it back then and I was drawing a cool portrait of Ash Greninja. He noticed it, came over and talked about it. Clicked instantly. Even though we’re in different colleges now, we still regularly hangout, play games and plan travelling trips together.
To me nothing beats XYZ. I quit pokemon after sun and moon was released. I even made a video I privated when I was in elementary school about how sun and moon was the worst “anime” to exist and I thought pokemon went downhill from there. I recently got back into the scene and damn it’s more popular than ever. But looking back I’m glad people still make videos on how good XY series was even after all these years. To this day I still have my Ash Greninja EX card, and he will always be my favorite Pokemon. (XY also introduced me to hoopa and zygarde, which are my top 2 and 3). I’m glad people realized how significant ash and greninja relationship was, and it was definitely a significant moment in Pokemon because they literally almost beat Mega Charizard, and I still remember the disappointment when he lost. Then again, we were all happy when Serena did what she did at the end of the series, so I guess that’s a positive.
@@PlayByEarPianist damn, I had almost the exact same experience as you, except I was in primary school when it happened. I remember I was approached by a kid one year my senior, and when we started to introduce ourselves, it was my strong interest and love towards Pokémon XYZ that brought us together. And though we’re in different secondary schools now, we do still hang out and talk.
One thing that i also really like in this anime is that there are a lot of little details like mega evolutions have things like a scarf like sawyer's sceptile to hold mega stone.
It’s such a small detail but one I hope they bring into the main games. I want to customize where my Pokémon holds their mega stone and where I have the key stone. It would be even cooler if they retain the clothes in the mega form.
ye I like this too and I hate when they just get rid of this detail in pokemon journeys/horizon...thing...???.. the last season with Ash anyway, cant remember title because I was watching this in japanese version - where mega stones are just spawning out of nowhere.

To be honest, Ash's maturity in Kalos was a huge focus on the show. The other characters routinely acknowledge his maturity and learn and grow because of it like Clemont, Serena and Sawyer. His chemistry with Sawyer and Serena works so well because of how they are both rookies and see him as a role model. The growth of these characters does highlight how much of an influence Ash was. That scene where Serena helps Ash get over it really shows how much she looks up to him. Also, the series included some elements that were quite mature and something I never expected in the Pokemon anime. Clembot's death is a good example because its not just a tragic passing that just happens and is never brought up again. The anime dedicates an entire episode after Lysander's defeat showing how it affects Clemont and the audience can feel it too given how Clembot also got a fair share of screentime. Also there was that one episode in the Kalos League where a guy who couldn't qualify for it tries to take out his frustration on Ash by battling him when he was supposed to get in the stadium for a battle. These things might be small but The Kalos arc really worked well as a slice of life that showed many aspects of the Pokemon world than just adventures of Ash and his group.

I kid you not, I got called the N word for liking Greninja once, I got called an Ipad baby for liking Gen 6 in general, and in one comment section I I kid you not, every single positive comment had this one guy shoving his negative opinion of XY in everyone’s faces, and always replied with this smug superior attitude saying stuff like “ash was immature” “serena was just an object, not a real character” “the story if boring” etc. And whats worse, he said that the Orange Islands were better than XY.
The scene on top of Prism Tower where Ash tells Lysandre that he’s fighting for the future he wants to create for everyone is the most mature thing he’s ever said. The “forever 10” rule really holds Ash’s character back imo

You forgot the part of the team flare arc where Lysander basically tells Ash he and Greninja are the peak of human majesty and tries to brainwash them into being his cult’s messiah. With that said, I agree with Bonnie being the “glue.” Because of her the whole gang has such a lovely family-like dynamic. Serena is incredibly maternal towards her and Ash is like another big brother she can look up to and admire. Clemons may be her guardian but they all pitch in to look after her and she returns those acts of love with her own. Just like an actual child
XYZ is actually so nostalgic to me, like I remember just sitting down and absolutely binging the HECK out of that series, and now I’m actually rewatching it! I’m on season 5 or 6 of XY. Btw love your vids
Kalos league was the only time, where all children, teenagers and adults came together and made it a global event, the hype and the controversy was real! Kinda like the Tournament of Power for dbs
That team is perfect, Dedenne ( first Pokemon basically ) Squishy ( her zygarde ) Tyrantrum ( she befriended) Lapras ( she befriended) Meaowstic ( she befriended a trainer with a meaowstic ) Ampharos ( mega and electric type)

It was the Pokemon anime the OG viewers were waiting for. We got it with the only exception being the director didn't want Ash to win because he believed Ash could never win. Alan was a anti-ash because they had to have a way for Ash to lose because he was just that good of a protagonist that season. XYs backlash caused ash to win Sun and Moon and retire Ash in Journeys. I fully believe if there was no director meddling, Ash would have won, and that's enough for me.

Lake Acuity is still the most crushing defeat Ash ever suffered; no other battle has come close in terms of making him question his own philosophy, beliefs & overall convictions as a Pokémon Trainer. It's even crazier when you consider he'd previously managed to beat the Battle Frontier (including Brandon, who he'd watched Paul get demolished by), so clearly his methods had merit, yet he _still_ questioned every decision he'd made up to that point.
There is that fight, yes. But this is also on a similar level because Ash literally downgraded from almost beating the ace Pokèmon of the Champion, to getting no-diffed by randos. The kind of downgrade would put anyone in a slump.
Each gen Ash ages 1 yr! Episode 1 : Ash age 10 Movie 3 : Ash age 11 AG : Ash age 12 ..... BW : Ash age 15 And so it goes like that. Cause if Pokemon Expects me to believe the whole series took place in less than 3 months they're Sadly Mistaken! 👿👿

XY was what you grew up watching. For me, it's what made love Pokemon all over again. I totally skipped out on gen 5 but when XY was airing, the conversation about this anime was so loud i was curious what all the people were talking about. "Ash got a girlfriend" and "mega pokemon" YT videos started to show up on my feed. It was the only anime I was excited to watch every week.
"Ash got a girlfriend" made me sit up and go "WHAT!? WHO!?" and I saw adorable fanart of Ash and Serena so I had to check it out. AMOURSHIPPING MY BELOVED
I love this version of Ash Cause He feels like a really really expressionist Pokemon trainer He is Like Red In this Series And I will say this even though he reverses back to classic Ash in Sun And Moon especially The aether Arc he still has his XY version Still in Him
The XY anime is what really got me into Pokemon, the first cards i bought were form the XY sets, X was the first game i beat i chose it as my birthday present when i turned 13 despite sun and moon being less than a year old and to this day X is the game i have played the most. XYZ is the only anime series i have watched ever .

9:50 Looking at badass shots like this makes me happy, but also sad, how they threw all of it in the trash when XYZ ended and we never saw this Ash again, and the extremely bad anti climactic ending of Ashs journey
Finally someone pointed out how the character design especially Ash's design was so much better and mature, the characters he journeyed with became better and better. Like Serena just joining for Ash later discovers her passion and actually does give Ash something to remember about her. Clemont and bonnie are good pair of siblings and have purpose in the story and they also gain confidence in their abilities like Clemont realizing that he needs to do better to give a good fight to his opponents at the gym battle leading to one of the best best Pokémon gym battle with Ash. The Mega Evolution was also such an amazing concept which really deserves a whole video on itself, some complain that not every pokemon can mega evolve but I think that BECAUSE NOT EVERY POKEMON can use it makes it even more majestic, powerful and rare, unlike the other gimmicks which are so accessible you don't even need to be surprised or feel excited about it! Man it's kinda weird how looking back the Gen V and Gen VI qualities between the games and anime switch, with Black and White and there sequels having the great games but a pretty subpar and not too good anime, while the story of Gen VI was quite subpar along with the games, the Anime stood out as seen as possibly the best of all the pokeanimes
BW anime is amazing, step up from everything before and very mature, XY is regression, terrible writing, immature as heck. Don't just buy whatever ytubers who haven't watched the series tell you
I think it's because Ash was finally the most mature person in the group. Before this Ash almost always had one person in the group who was more mature than him (namely Brock) so he never really feels like leader material, just the happy go lucky protagonist. But in XY they changed that. Ash is the most mature person in the group and Serena outright says that she views him like a leader. People like this because it feels like natural progression. If your protagonists don't accumulate the knowledge and wisdom they gained in previous arcs and don't put it to good use then what's the point? Another reason is that they finally start to portray his Pokèmon saving moments as cool. Like the Garchomp rescue on Lumiose Tower or him going "BATTLE ME LYSANDRE!" in the Team Flare Arc. Dude damn near feels like a superhero at times.
I’ve never been a huge fan of XY (too many hot takes) BUT I love the way you explained your reasonings here. Very solid opinions. Also THANK YOU for saying Ash is 16 here, I’ve been saying that for years. I refuse to be believe the permanent 10-year-old thing. Great video!
I would say Sinnoh was an anime Pokemon season too.Offing off Pokemon Hunter J was crazy! I wish the English version of the XY anime used the Japanese opening. Especially when Ash Greninja is battling.

To the people who call XY/XYZ series "overrated". It deserves its spot because it is PEAK Pokemon Anime. Nothing tops it. If anything I believe Ash should have won against Alan. He grew the most and got the Character arc he needed after so long. Sun and Moon Anime got nothing on XY/XYZ series.
Your opinion. I think it's overrated and I prefer Sun and Moon. Does that mean I'll invalidate your opinion ? Of course not, just don't try to say it's the best when in the end it's just personal opinion. To me XYZ Ash is the one that feels the most Out-Of-Character. Even though I admit it, I haven't watched XYZ since it stopped being broadcasted on TV.

The art style isn't even that bad, even though it could have been better. It's kind of hard to not consider it canon when Journeys builds upon it a lot more than upon XYZ.

One of Ash's biggest lesson in XYZ is being overly to hellbent on pushing on his journey for the league and end up disregarding the feelings of people around him and even his pokemon as highlighted with his fallout with Greninja and Ash snubbing Selena. Pokemon Sun & Moon is the proper answer to that on making Ash learn how to Chill meanwhile still being a competent trainer. As much as I like XYZ, Sun & Moon fleshout the Region, Ash's Pokemon and the supporting cast better than XYZ.
I love Bonnie in the series I wish they aged her up in journeys along with Max, even though we didn’t get to see Max and may injure needs, but if you count the flashback we kinda did see max but I mean I actually see him like actually see him apper and with Pokémon, or his Pokémon team
XY/XYZ will always be my favorite Pokémon series, nothing can replace this GOAT series and will always be an anime for me. When SM came it look more like cartoon, childish and too weird to enjoy, i can say Journeys art style looks better because it looks like it combine the sharp style from XY and smooth it a little from SM.

XY was the series that i started keeping up with the anime as it released and still am it was so good the whole video through i was waiting with baited breath for the mention of the Wulfric episodes and you didnt miss great video!
XY/XYZ is definitely one of best alongside DP and SM. I like DP and SM more but XY definitely had great vibes and characters to its series. This was like a Starting point of Ash Becoming a Champion although he didn’t win Kalos, He won the Alola League afterwards then the World Championships! I believe Ash learned his mistakes from BW then started again to have his skills back in XY

7:08 This is why it was my favorite Pokemon Anime (Also I appreciate you acknowledging that the masters 8 had some phenomenal battles). I loved battling when I was younger. I actually played a few online Pokemon tournaments when I was younger. I love how it portrays his setbacks, development, and continual strive for mastery over battling. He had a passion in this series that is lacking in the others.
I remember when i was younger watching XY and I NEVER thought Ash was 10, Ash was 16+, no question. In my opinion it is more enjoyable to have someone older that you can aspire to be or look up to rather someone your age or younger. It begs the question, would Ash be as cool if they drew him like a 10 year old? In my opinion no. Either way Im pretty sure ive read somewhere that it is stated by the creators of the anime that Ash is not necceceraly 10 years old but they use the age as a sign of youth. Might be cope but it works for me. Great video as always❤
One of the things I love about X & Y is how experienced Ash is as a trainer. He remembers everything from his past battles and catches, even little things like remembering that all Nurse Joys are cousins. It irritated me that in some of the new series, he forgets things he should already know by now.
I actually liked how they gave the rivals an Arc of themselves unlike in any other Region where the player who will beat Ash will just pop up one day without any story.

To the people claiming theres no way Ash was 10 in XY because of how he looked: welcome to anime. This is an extremely common thing. Kids look like teens, teens look like adults, and anyone over 25 is considered elderly and gross.
The downfall with people is that they lack critical thinking and always resort to "if a the story or characters act more mature = they have to be older" or if the characters looks a kid = the story is for kids."
Nah I disagree, Pokemon "turned" to a real anime in Gen 4. That's when Ash looked and acted more mature from Hoenn. Even had a deeper voice and that's when the art style started to look more sharp and clean. The dynamic between Ash and Paul was for older audiences not just for kids. Ash's team was BUILT to win but we all know The Pokemon Company couldn't let it end after 4 generations. If it wasn't for Black & White being totally TRASH and turning Ash into an idiot, Sinnoh Ash would've gotten a lil more shine imo. But nonetheless Gen 4 walked so Gen 6 could run is what I'm saying. They took all the good things from Sinnoh and added Mega Evolution on top.

Fully agree w all ur points, one thing id add personally is that it felt like ash finally got the respect from his rivals it felt like he deserved. The first 5 seasons more often then not the other trainers didnt rly look up to him, but rather looked down on him (even tripp lol) Now ppl like sawyer clemant serena rly made u feel he has earned his status and already puts him more as the experienced trainer who goes for his goals rather then the young one who needs to focus on learning
This was the Pokemon anime at its peak. It will never be topped, this would’ve been the perfect way to end Ash’s character, he could’ve won, stayed in Kalos and stay with Greninja to protect the future he talked about when he fought Lysandre.
I’m currently 30, grew up watching this series from the first Kanto series up until Sinnoh. Stopped watching at Unova, but then Kalos series began and man…I remember vividly how Pokémon fans and even not fans of the franchise were following the anime emission closely, week by week, identical to how we follow shonen like One Piece and the like (leaks, theories, speculation, reviews, analysis). This was Pokémon anime at its peak, bar none.
I see XY/XYZ and Sun and Moon as two very integral part of Ash's arc. Part of Ash's arc in XY/XYZ was that he was aiming to win more than ever in the story. But being way too eager to win was exactly the problem and ends up messing his battles. Which is why he does things like trying to copy Tierno's battle style after he defeated him before the Korina battle, also why he struggles a bit against Ramos when he told him to chill down after he noticed this "too eager to win" attitude from Ash (something that even Ramos pointed out to him) and it's also why he gets frustrated and fake smiles when he sees that Sawyer already surpassed him in number of gym badges and that made him lose his focus for the battle against Wulfric. Sun and Moon is him remembering why he likes to be a trainer in the first place, while still being a competent trainer but this time with his head in the right place and as part of a region that thanks to his new mentality also became like a second home to him.
I will always remember the hype weekly during the tournament arc in XYZ. Every week I’d find new things to talk about with friends. It’s been 8 years since it ended, but I still remember the feeling as though I just watched Ash vs Alain yesterday for the first time.
DP & XY will always be my favorite arcs of The Pokemon Series, it was definitely when Ash was at his very best as a Pokemon trainer and story development. Both definitely pushed Ash to improve passed his limits to actually feel like a shonen protagonist. His rivals were not pushovers and neither were the Gym leaders. And Ash had developed quite the powerhouse Teams. I Like the indigo League but its mostly for the sake of nostalgia
I’m a bit biased myself but I would put Diamond and Pearl on the same level as XY. I will concede that XY did do some things better than DP but DP did some things better than XY. For example XY did battles better, but the battle on DP had more emotional weight behind them. XY had better characters but I’d argue DP had better character development. The rivals in XY were great, but I have never been so invested in watching the rivalry between Paul and Ash develop. XY gave us the greatest Villian arc in Pokémon history, but the galactic arc was also incredible. XY tackled mature themes while DP covered themes like animal abuse and psychological trauma. The filler in both can be pretty fun to watch , but they both suffer from some pacing issues. I think both anime are equally amazing.
XYZ was the definition of "it only goes downhill from here". Both the Anime and the Games became increasingly worst after Kalos, and they have not recovered since. With Pokémon Legends ZA comming out this year at least the games have a chance to return to their proper glory, the Anime however has lost It's identity to such an extent that It's pretty much over for It. *_AT LEAST they gave Ash a proper ending before things got out of hand, It's way more that I could have hoped for._*

Ash's depression arc was the definition of peak fiction, and I learned the Japanese opening (Iku Z!) by heart. It's so embarrassing cuz I would walk up to classmates and flex that I new the Japanese lyrics, very cringe inducing LOOL. I loved the sun and moon anime, and I might actually prefer it overall, but NOTHING will ever reach the peaks and the hype I felt from the XYZ anime.

Iku Z is still one of my favourite anime openings. And yes, one of my best friends currently bonded with me in middle school thanks to Pokemon XYZ (Ash Greninja).
I was a huge fan of it back then and I was drawing a cool portrait of Ash Greninja. He noticed it, came over and talked about it. Clicked instantly.
Even though we’re in different colleges now, we still regularly hangout, play games and plan travelling trips together.

To me nothing beats XYZ. I quit pokemon after sun and moon was released. I even made a video I privated when I was in elementary school about how sun and moon was the worst “anime” to exist and I thought pokemon went downhill from there. I recently got back into the scene and damn it’s more popular than ever. But looking back I’m glad people still make videos on how good XY series was even after all these years. To this day I still have my Ash Greninja EX card, and he will always be my favorite Pokemon. (XY also introduced me to hoopa and zygarde, which are my top 2 and 3). I’m glad people realized how significant ash and greninja relationship was, and it was definitely a significant moment in Pokemon because they literally almost beat Mega Charizard, and I still remember the disappointment when he lost. Then again, we were all happy when Serena did what she did at the end of the series, so I guess that’s a positive.

I remember I was approached by a kid one year my senior, and when we started to introduce ourselves, it was my strong interest and love towards Pokémon XYZ that brought us together. And though we’re in different secondary schools now, we do still hang out and talk.
One thing that i also really like in this anime is that there are a lot of little details like mega evolutions have things like a scarf like sawyer's sceptile to hold mega stone.

It’s such a small detail but one I hope they bring into the main games. I want to customize where my Pokémon holds their mega stone and where I have the key stone. It would be even cooler if they retain the clothes in the mega form.

To be honest, Ash's maturity in Kalos was a huge focus on the show. The other characters routinely acknowledge his maturity and learn and grow because of it like Clemont, Serena and Sawyer. His chemistry with Sawyer and Serena works so well because of how they are both rookies and see him as a role model. The growth of these characters does highlight how much of an influence Ash was. That scene where Serena helps Ash get over it really shows how much she looks up to him.
Also, the series included some elements that were quite mature and something I never expected in the Pokemon anime. Clembot's death is a good example because its not just a tragic passing that just happens and is never brought up again. The anime dedicates an entire episode after Lysander's defeat showing how it affects Clemont and the audience can feel it too given how Clembot also got a fair share of screentime. Also there was that one episode in the Kalos League where a guy who couldn't qualify for it tries to take out his frustration on Ash by battling him when he was supposed to get in the stadium for a battle. These things might be small but The Kalos arc really worked well as a slice of life that showed many aspects of the Pokemon world than just adventures of Ash and his group.

You forgot the part of the team flare arc where Lysander basically tells Ash he and Greninja are the peak of human majesty and tries to brainwash them into being his cult’s messiah. With that said, I agree with Bonnie being the “glue.” Because of her the whole gang has such a lovely family-like dynamic. Serena is incredibly maternal towards her and Ash is like another big brother she can look up to and admire. Clemons may be her guardian but they all pitch in to look after her and she returns those acts of love with her own. Just like an actual child

It was the Pokemon anime the OG viewers were waiting for. We got it with the only exception being the director didn't want Ash to win because he believed Ash could never win. Alan was a anti-ash because they had to have a way for Ash to lose because he was just that good of a protagonist that season. XYs backlash caused ash to win Sun and Moon and retire Ash in Journeys. I fully believe if there was no director meddling, Ash would have won, and that's enough for me.

It's even crazier when you consider he'd previously managed to beat the Battle Frontier (including Brandon, who he'd watched Paul get demolished by), so clearly his methods had merit, yet he _still_ questioned every decision he'd made up to that point.
There is that fight, yes. But this is also on a similar level because Ash literally downgraded from almost beating the ace Pokèmon of the Champion, to getting no-diffed by randos.
The kind of downgrade would put anyone in a slump.

XY was what you grew up watching. For me, it's what made love Pokemon all over again. I totally skipped out on gen 5 but when XY was airing, the conversation about this anime was so loud i was curious what all the people were talking about. "Ash got a girlfriend" and "mega pokemon" YT videos started to show up on my feed. It was the only anime I was excited to watch every week.

To me, Pokemon XY always felt like the final send off to Ash's journey before Horizons. The real canon ending in my books.
The XY anime is what really got me into Pokemon, the first cards i bought were form the XY sets, X was the first game i beat i chose it as my birthday present when i turned 13 despite sun and moon being less than a year old and to this day X is the game i have played the most. XYZ is the only anime series i have watched ever .

XY was my first exposure to pokemon as a kid so finding out that Ash was 10 and looked like this really confused me.

Finally someone pointed out how the character design especially Ash's design was so much better and mature, the characters he journeyed with became better and better. Like Serena just joining for Ash later discovers her passion and actually does give Ash something to remember about her. Clemont and bonnie are good pair of siblings and have purpose in the story and they also gain confidence in their abilities like Clemont realizing that he needs to do better to give a good fight to his opponents at the gym battle leading to one of the best best Pokémon gym battle with Ash. The Mega Evolution was also such an amazing concept which really deserves a whole video on itself, some complain that not every pokemon can mega evolve but I think that BECAUSE NOT EVERY POKEMON can use it makes it even more majestic, powerful and rare, unlike the other gimmicks which are so accessible you don't even need to be surprised or feel excited about it! Man it's kinda weird how looking back the Gen V and Gen VI qualities between the games and anime switch, with Black and White and there sequels having the great games but a pretty subpar and not too good anime, while the story of Gen VI was quite subpar along with the games, the Anime stood out as seen as possibly the best of all the pokeanimes

I liked the BW anime it wasn't super serious, and Ash got dumber but it was a fun time all the way through for me
I think it's because Ash was finally the most mature person in the group.
Before this Ash almost always had one person in the group who was more mature than him (namely Brock) so he never really feels like leader material, just the happy go lucky protagonist.
But in XY they changed that. Ash is the most mature person in the group and Serena outright says that she views him like a leader. People like this because it feels like natural progression. If your protagonists don't accumulate the knowledge and wisdom they gained in previous arcs and don't put it to good use then what's the point?
Another reason is that they finally start to portray his Pokèmon saving moments as cool. Like the Garchomp rescue on Lumiose Tower or him going "BATTLE ME LYSANDRE!" in the Team Flare Arc. Dude damn near feels like a superhero at times.

XY/XYZ is definitely one of best alongside DP and SM. I like DP and SM more but XY definitely had great vibes and characters to its series. This was like a Starting point of Ash Becoming a Champion although he didn’t win Kalos, He won the Alola League afterwards then the World Championships! I believe Ash learned his mistakes from BW then started again to have his skills back in XY

7:08 This is why it was my favorite Pokemon Anime (Also I appreciate you acknowledging that the masters 8 had some phenomenal battles). I loved battling when I was younger. I actually played a few online Pokemon tournaments when I was younger. I love how it portrays his setbacks, development, and continual strive for mastery over battling. He had a passion in this series that is lacking in the others.
I remember when i was younger watching XY and I NEVER thought Ash was 10, Ash was 16+, no question.
In my opinion it is more enjoyable to have someone older that you can aspire to be or look up to rather someone your age or younger. It begs the question, would Ash be as cool if they drew him like a 10 year old? In my opinion no.
Either way Im pretty sure ive read somewhere that it is stated by the creators of the anime that Ash is not necceceraly 10 years old but they use the age as a sign of youth. Might be cope but it works for me.

One of the things I love about X & Y is how experienced Ash is as a trainer. He remembers everything from his past battles and catches, even little things like remembering that all Nurse Joys are cousins. It irritated me that in some of the new series, he forgets things he should already know by now.
I actually liked how they gave the rivals an Arc of themselves unlike in any other Region where the player who will beat Ash will just pop up one day without any story.

To the people claiming theres no way Ash was 10 in XY because of how he looked: welcome to anime. This is an extremely common thing. Kids look like teens, teens look like adults, and anyone over 25 is considered elderly and gross.
But after a character reaches a certain age they will start looking young again
The downfall with people is that they lack critical thinking and always resort to "if a the story or characters act more mature = they have to be older" or if the characters looks a kid = the story is for kids."

Nah I disagree, Pokemon "turned" to a real anime in Gen 4. That's when Ash looked and acted more mature from Hoenn. Even had a deeper voice and that's when the art style started to look more sharp and clean. The dynamic between Ash and Paul was for older audiences not just for kids. Ash's team was BUILT to win but we all know The Pokemon Company couldn't let it end after 4 generations. If it wasn't for Black & White being totally TRASH and turning Ash into an idiot, Sinnoh Ash would've gotten a lil more shine imo. But nonetheless Gen 4 walked so Gen 6 could run is what I'm saying. They took all the good things from Sinnoh and added Mega Evolution on top.

Fully agree w all ur points, one thing id add personally is that it felt like ash finally got the respect from his rivals it felt like he deserved. The first 5 seasons more often then not the other trainers didnt rly look up to him, but rather looked down on him (even tripp lol) Now ppl like sawyer clemant serena rly made u feel he has earned his status and already puts him more as the experienced trainer who goes for his goals rather then the young one who needs to focus on learning

This was the Pokemon anime at its peak. It will never be topped, this would’ve been the perfect way to end Ash’s character, he could’ve won, stayed in Kalos and stay with Greninja to protect the future he talked about when he fought Lysandre.
Based af. Pretty much summed up why i love this series so much. Also every Gym leader coming together to fight Lysandre in final arc was hype too.

I’m currently 30, grew up watching this series from the first Kanto series up until Sinnoh. Stopped watching at Unova, but then Kalos series began and man…I remember vividly how Pokémon fans and even not fans of the franchise were following the anime emission closely, week by week, identical to how we follow shonen like One Piece and the like (leaks, theories, speculation, reviews, analysis). This was Pokémon anime at its peak, bar none.
Facts Pokémon xy was peak it’s what brought me back to watching it too. then sun and moon ruined it for me
I see XY/XYZ and Sun and Moon as two very integral part of Ash's arc.
Part of Ash's arc in XY/XYZ was that he was aiming to win more than ever in the story. But being way too eager to win was exactly the problem and ends up messing his battles. Which is why he does things like trying to copy Tierno's battle style after he defeated him before the Korina battle, also why he struggles a bit against Ramos when he told him to chill down after he noticed this "too eager to win" attitude from Ash (something that even Ramos pointed out to him) and it's also why he gets frustrated and fake smiles when he sees that Sawyer already surpassed him in number of gym badges and that made him lose his focus for the battle against Wulfric.
Sun and Moon is him remembering why he likes to be a trainer in the first place, while still being a competent trainer but this time with his head in the right place and as part of a region that thanks to his new mentality also became like a second home to him.
I will always remember the hype weekly during the tournament arc in XYZ. Every week I’d find new things to talk about with friends. It’s been 8 years since it ended, but I still remember the feeling as though I just watched Ash vs Alain yesterday for the first time.

DP & XY will always be my favorite arcs of The Pokemon Series, it was definitely when Ash was at his very best as a Pokemon trainer and story development. Both definitely pushed Ash to improve passed his limits to actually feel like a shonen protagonist. His rivals were not pushovers and neither were the Gym leaders. And Ash had developed quite the powerhouse Teams. I Like the indigo League but its mostly for the sake of nostalgia
I’m a bit biased myself but I would put Diamond and Pearl on the same level as XY. I will concede that XY did do some things better than DP but DP did some things better than XY. For example XY did battles better, but the battle on DP had more emotional weight behind them. XY had better characters but I’d argue DP had better character development. The rivals in XY were great, but I have never been so invested in watching the rivalry between Paul and Ash develop. XY gave us the greatest Villian arc in Pokémon history, but the galactic arc was also incredible. XY tackled mature themes while DP covered themes like animal abuse and psychological trauma. The filler in both can be pretty fun to watch , but they both suffer from some pacing issues. I think both anime are equally amazing.

XYZ was the definition of "it only goes downhill from here". Both the Anime and the Games became increasingly worst after Kalos, and they have not recovered since. With Pokémon Legends ZA comming out this year at least the games have a chance to return to their proper glory, the Anime however has lost It's identity to such an extent that It's pretty much over for It. *_AT LEAST they gave Ash a proper ending before things got out of hand, It's way more that I could have hoped for._*
