    I personally find it really cool how some items reference certain species of Pokémon. For example, the Sharp Beak looks like Fearow's beak, the TwistedSpoon is clearly a reference to the Abra line, and as stated the Magnet is a reference to the Magnemite line. The Wings introduced in Gen 5 are definitely connected to the Ducklett line, the Lucky Egg is clearly a reference to the Chansey line, and I believe the King's Rock is a reference to a scrapped Poliwhirl design, where it had a crown on its head.
    Of course most of the items that only work on specific items, such as the Thick Club and Leek, are pretty obvious, but something I just noticed is Ditto's powders are purple and blue, perfectly matching its standard color and its shiny color!
    Also, I never saw the reference between Staryu and Starmie and the Star Piece/Comet Shard, that's really cool!

    I don't have a lore reason as to why Gamefreak has decided to cut back on the number of wild pokemon with held items. My only theory is that they want us to utilize the new mechanics they provide us in order to get the items pokemon used to hold.

    • @BusinessSkrub
      @BusinessSkrub 2 месяца назад +3

      I think it's because it's easier to farm for those held items once the Pokemon are visible in the overworld; for example, wild Pelipper used to hold the Lucky Egg very rarely, if you could just see the Pelipper and only encounter them, rather than needing to hit encounters hoping one spawns, you can force the spawns and only check the Pokemon you're looking for. This principal is present in basically every other aspect of wild Pokemon (shiny hunting, etc), so I have no earthly idea why they would focus on held items specifically in this manner. 🤷🏼

    To be more realistic, its very possible that rich people just threw away valuable items. Unova the region where trubbish is from is heavily based on America and especially some places are based on NYC. As someone who used to live in NYC I can certainly say I have found many high quality items in the trash area of my building like PS2s with tons of games all working, or brand new never used japanese coffee glassware and such. In fact there is a NYC culture of getting free furniture from the garbage. Most of the time these items are still treated with a bit of respect even if the rich people throwing them out are throwing them out so they are perfectly fine to take. I used to take garbage to the curb for a 20 story building thats where I learned a lot of this.

    All of these lore explanations are theoretical, not proven anywhere. And they're all rather flawed.
    Like the Star Piece and Comet Shard lore could make sense for Staryu and Starmie... But it doesn't really explain the other Pokemon able to be found holding them except by saying "well they just picked it up because they were attracted to it", which can just as easily explain Staryu and Starmie holding them. Your logic of where else they can be found is also completely irrelevant. Yeah, being able to find them on some beaches makes sense for them to come from Staryu and Starmie, but in caves and on mountains like Mt. Moon, Meteor Falls, Mt. Coronet, Stark Mountain, Chargestone Cave. The list goes on. Not to mention places like the Ruins of Alph, Fuego Ironworks, Dragonspiral Tower, and randomly while using Rock Smash. Yeah, you mention "where fossils can also be found", but that's not really an explanation. Because that's also where normal gemstones would be found. Not to mention the fact that in Legends Arceus, they're crafted using every shard colour and Stardust. I think its far more likely that the name is just in reference to the shape and it is, as stated, a red gem of some kind. Besides, since you included Comet Shards in it, their item description clearly states "a shard that fell to the ground when a comet passed nearby." They aren't literally pieces of stars (and unlikely to be pieces of comets), but they are gems, likely ones that fell from the sky.
    The other big issue is the Lagging Tail. Even ignoring the visual design of it, there's no way it's the tail of Slowpoke (or it's evolutions), Lickitung/Lickilicki, or Cuphant/Copperajah. First off, its stated to be a very heavy tail. If it was a Slowpoke Tail (which is an item already), I don't think people would be eating a tail that's so heavy it slows Pokemon down. Besides, it fishes with that tail, it would have to be insanely strong to put a tail that heavy into the water and lift it again with something on the end, especially without losing a tail it is stated can be removed pretty easily. You already mentioned the issue for Cuphant and Copperajah. As for Lickitung, the Pokedex suggests a connection between it's tail and it's tongue, specifically stating in one entry "extending its tongue retracts its tail." So I think its very unlikely the tail comes off as easily as Slowpoke's tail does. While it is the tail of something, I think its more likely the tail of something else, not the Pokemon holding it. For example, maybe the tail of an Onix. Remains of prey or just dropped by an Onix and picked up out of interest. More likely the second one. Just because one Pokemon holds the item, doesn't mean it had to be the one that made it. And just because an item came from a Pokemon, doesn't mean it has to hold it.
    These issues continue with the Shed Shell, though less so, as well as the Light Clay.

    5:49 Lickitung is based off a lizard. That's why it has that tail.
    Also snails don't shed their shells . Come on, dude. A little research.
