    I'm 15 sessions into running an MCCRPG campaign. I started with Tim Snider's Dead in the Water and that gave me a great base for the campaign and a handle on the setting. I've ended up with a setting based on Gamma World 4th edition to give it some verisimilitude rather than totally gonzo. And it's been easy to use DCC adventures like The Tower Out of Time, The Hellson Horror and The Star Wound of Abaddon as well as Goodman Games' MCC adventures, and the third party MCC adventures have been excellent.

    I personally prefer Mutant Crawl Classics over Dungeon Crawl Classics. I never really got into D&D but Gamma World is a favorite. Especially it's fourth edition. MCC has just enough similarities to Gamma World to really speak to me. I think that's why I like it more. 😊

    your comment on the TL checks and using it for fantasy sounds really fun. And it got me thinking that having artifacts and magic items done more like spells would be really cool.
    So when you find a magical staff or something you roll a identify check and the higher you roll the stronger effects you can get out of it.
    1 - crit fail, mis fire, item destroyed
    2-11 fail, you can't figure the item out. you can retry when you level up
    12-13 cast knock once/week
    ...
    ..
    35+ cast dimension door once/day

    I got this book as a Christmas gift and I completely vouch for it, I've never played Gamma World but this is amazing. I'm definitely adding the 3 mutated classes to my DCC games and thinking about running a Umerica game that also has the classes and Artifacts from MCC. You don't need fireball when you have photon grenades!

    Just as DCC is an open love letter to 1970's D&D, MCC is an open love letter to 1970's Gamma World. Goodman Games has another post-apoc game in the works that's provisionally titled "Radiation Crawl Classics." It is apparently meant to imitate Mad Max/Dieselpunk, rather than re-state Gamma World as they did with MCC. So, basically, it sounds like a mid-point between Umerica (which is 3rd party content) and MCC. I'm curious to see how that turns out.

    • @JocularJunction
      @JocularJunction  2 года назад

      I am also curious! I hope they find a two syllable word instead of Radiation to keep with the naming conventions. Pulling MCC, Umerica, and RCC together would be a sweet game.

    How well does the Healer class match up with the Cleric as a alternative?

    • @JocularJunction
      @JocularJunction  2 года назад +1

      So the DCC cleric has the roll disapproval mechanic and can heal unlimited times; you might just upset your deity. The Healer class has a set amount of times and HP they can heal in a day. But I imagine this balances out with medical artifacts, of which you have a bonus to use.

    • @midnightgreen8319
      @midnightgreen8319 2 года назад

      @@JocularJunction That sounds like a good variant, frankly. I love the Classes in DCC but some of the other ones out there are overpowered, I've considered getting MCC to add to my DCC

    So from what I can tell MCC is more sci-fi post-apocalyptic and Umerica is more near future mad max post apocalyptic.

    Looks like my comment got deleted. I provided a link to Jim Wampler's (the author of MCC) site. Was that a no-no? I guess so. I understand.
    My comment was that MCC has been criticized as not being as gonzo as DCC RPG. The classes are kind of like a bland version of what is in DCC. I think that criticism has some merit to it. The other stuff Jim Wampler does (I will not provide a link), however, which is written to be fully compatible with MCC, *is* more gonzo.
    My hope was that MCC would be to Gamma World what DCC is to the world's most famous fantasy RPG. It wasn't. I say this not having gone through the adventures. The adventures may add much more flavor, as DCC adventures do often add something of an extension to the original rules. And in a lighter and more flexible and useable way than with the large adventure books and their contents produced by wizards.
