You absolutely do need to be careful not to get caught in collecting all the alternate covers. I've bought DCC three times, MCC twice. Only a shortage of shelf space stands between me and abject poverty.
The umerica setting for DCC deserves a look if you like post apocalypse. Where MCC assumes much time has past since the apocalypse and that technology is old and forgotten (planet of the apes), umerica is the opposite in that the event is more recent history (mad max).
@@himurogentoku7117 The game is unfinished in places. It has to do with Jim Wampler and why he's not employed by Goodman Games anymore. Personally, if you want a Gamma World clone, Mutant Future is better. If they update MCC and add about 15 pages, it could solve all the issues.
I was just about to search for a video describing this or Gamma World and instead this video was at the top of the front page, brand new, from one of my favorite creators. I've never seen something so perfect!
This is an excellent game if you want to do something like Thundarr. It’s also a natural crossover, just add the magic from DCC to recreate the sorcery from Thundarr.
I love MCC and so do my players. My biggest gripe is the lack of spell variety for Shaman and how boring the Healer class is. I did get the Computarchs book. It is full of imagination, but sloppily is edited and adds complexity to the system. All in all i hope to run more MCC in the future. PS.. Goodman Games, please release another supplement for this game. We need more shaman and healer support.
Jim Wampler is such a super-fan of the post apocalyptic genre and it really shines through MCC. It's fun listening to old spellburn episodes where he talks about it's development a bit.
Hello Dave, check Scientific Barbarian, the zine Jim is publishing. He even publishs annuals containing 4 issues in one book. Wetware Programs, Artifacts and lots of other stuff. The "missing" parts are there.
This game was actually my almost-first roleplaying game. My actual first campaign (its on season break haitus) and longest campaign by far, possibly ever.
We do in fact play with DCC blended in. The judge crafted a story involving that, and the A.I. gods, we gradually uncover. He figured out how to make it sort of a westmarches, and very low prep between sessions. Naturally we are inclined to venture further up the central mega dungeon/tower but other times we feel like exploring the boundaries. Sometimes he fits an adventure from a module into our world. It doesn't even need to be a DCC or MCC module.
I just bought this book and plan to do come up with a campaign that includes characters from the TMNT universe. I think it would fit well in this style when looking at the original comic book line.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love DCC and MCC and their adventures, but I hate the funky dice. Just more unnecessary clunk. I honestly wish the system was build around less dice...
Sounds like it hews much more closely to GW than I had guessed. I knew it was inspired by it but this very much sounds like an edition of gamma world as opposed to a game that draws from it. Actually pretty exciting to me
@@yagsipcc287 I've been through a couple of funnels. Really great way to learn the mechanics. It's hilarious and brutal in the right proportions. Get it! You won't regret it.
So far, I've only used it to give one of my DCC player's characters a mutation. But I definitely plan to use it again. Not sure if I'll be able to find a group to play it straight up or not.
MCC is very good…but felt a bit unfinished to me. If you haven’t already checked it out…go check out The Mutant Epoch. That for me is the final word in Post Apocalyptic mutant mayhem. 👍
Amazing piece! I have seen a Dry World something, also post apocalyptic, and it also was a great booklet. Should check it out!! ❤❤ It has three similar classes: pure blood, quant and mutants (don't remember what they are called. It was a great read, actually. Something was missing, an AI... And I think it needs it, given the setting.
@@midnightgreen8319 One of the Cons for me is that is kinda complex to make a character... and we need to create a bunch as it is generaly made for 5 to 8 characters
@@IAcePTI I'm currently running a DCC Umerica campaign using the Mutant Epoch setting. I absolutely recommend the Crossroads book and the Pitford book for any PA game
@@midnightgreen8319 Ohh for sure... i love the books of Mutant Epoch, for every mutant genre game it have so many things to roll to what we get on towns and bunch of mutants and mutations. Im realy waiting for the new book to have the Worm mutant type to play xD I have so mutch fun rolling new characters, even if i dont know if im doing it right is so mutch fun

But what a way to get there! Sanjulian covers have cost my child a college education.
For real...
And the fucking cylinder-packs of dice...

I am not a giant fan of MCC, but I absolutely love Umerica!
@@midnightgreen8319What do you not like about MCC if i may ask Midnight? I am rather interested in MCC but still hesitate to buy it.

@@midnightgreen8319 Much appreciated, Midnight! Thank you very much! I will look into Mutant Future!
@@himurogentoku7117 It's fantastic! Drive Thru RPG has it for like 16 bucks for the softcover.
MCC is one of the greatest TTRPG's I've ever played, hands down. It amplifies everything that is FUN. Great review!
Doing a review of Weird Frontiers would be a great follow up to the DCC and MCC reviews!
Seconded

I'm glad the universe and I could team up to do you a solid.

Just steal from DCC. Use the spells for cleric and MU. I realize that's sort of a cop out, but its a viable in-between.
Black and white art is so retro...love it...this adventure reminds me of thundar the barbarian...a world of sorcery and super science
I don't "RPG"...but this game I will play. Brilliant!

The cross eleements between like He-Man, Thundar the Barbarian, and other classic 80s shows is palpable, fun, and a great time capsule all together.

This must be the inspiration for Caves of Qud. Which is an amazing roguelike crpg in this setting
Great in-depth & useful review. MCC is a nostalgia hit for me. Looks like a really fun game. On my to-buy list, as well as some of the supplements.
God, I love the art! Especially the alternate arts look so good.
We picked both this and DCC up at Origins this year. Totally looking forward to joining the road crew next year. Fantastic games.
Have you played many or any games yet? If so how are you liking it? I am thinking of getting this as well as DCC core.

MCC is so cool but missing the higher level spells is a dealbreaker for me. I’d they’re going to charge full retail price then I want a full product.
Great review!
