I get the reason why they did it because of the amount of foot traffic. However, it could have been done in a better way and not as noticeable with maybe putting some Astro/fake turf down rather than trying to match the existing bridge.
Option 1) They could rope it off so you have to walk to one side or the other. Option 2) If they had buried the stones so just the tops were exposed it would have blended in better.
Even if they'd done a decent job of it, adding a patio was a ridiculous idea. By the looks of it, though, they had a contest for worst design, and after a few million entries, this design stood out as the clear winner of "least visually appealing."
I can't tell you how much I look forward to the podcast and all the videos. My youngest son lives in America and has just had his first lesson after several years of trying to get better. I sent him the link to the Royal Birkdale Break 75 as I get lessons from James Robinson. He is now scouring the archives to try and catch up. Another new subscriber.
I bought the Cobra F9 one length irons in 2019, G-4, and I still love them. Having one length really simplifies my club choice decisions which saved my golf game.
Loved this weeks podcast and also loved the collaboration with stacked golf as they are a lovely couple and hope you’ll have more videos with Jon and Ashley
I play One length Cobra irons (F7) I bought them before I knew much about Bryson. (wasn't following PGA much at the time). The one posture one swing made sense to me, and it has helped me a lot. I have moved my handicap from 21 to 10 in the past 18 months. What the one lengths did for me was take a lot of decisions out of my head so I could focus on target, distance, wind etc. There is an issue with gapping from the 6 and 5 iron, but I play a 4 and 2 hybrid and so I end up using my 5 iron in a non traditional way. (low draws) and it works for me. I have thought about going back to traditional length irons but anything i've sampled hasn't felt good enough to warrant the switch.
The Bryson Taylormade driver to me is interesting because Bryson has done a decent amount of collaboration recently with both Grant and Micah who are newly signed Team Taylormade.
He said in one of their videos that “they’d be working together”. At the time I thought that mean they might join Cobra. But, now it seems it’s possibly the other way around. I do think Bryson stays a free agent though. He’s already got the money and is such a tinkerer.
People forget this about Bryson's driver history. During that stretch when he was really bombing it over the lake at the Arnold Palmer and driving greens at the Ryder Cup, he was using a blacked out Cobra King LTD driver from 2015 (the one with the space port window). He openly discussed that Cobra's modern faces weren't ideal for his speed. I'm not surprised he's trying other options if he's no longer contractually obligated.
I'm incredibly excited about Full Swing. Anyone who's had the pleasure of running into Joel in Arizona knows what you see is what you get. He's an awesome person, and I can't wait for Feb 15.
Agreed you're right to keep production values high at the expense of release. It's what differentiates you from other channels and whilst there's always a place for a new channel starting out using iphones etc. this channel's experience is far past that and better for it imo! Cheers gents
It’s a negotiating tactic. No other company than Cobra will bend over backwards for brysons weird ways of going about things. But if his contract is up and their negotiating, if he just uses all his same cobra clubs he doesn’t have as much leverage with getting a big contract from Cobra cause it seems like he needs them just as much as they need him. If he starts using other drivers that’s like giving the company a preview of what it’s like without him and how easy he’ll move on
Not sure sponsoring Bryson achieves much. Playing on Liv means minimum exposure for them and it’s not like he needs the money. Where he may come unstuck is that like you said other oem’s might not want to put up with his attitude and make special clubs for him.
I think the key to the F1 series is the team aspect. It's not just the individuals personalities but the team principals that lord over these expires like kings and have their own underlying rivalries. This makes it hard for very singular sports to compete with the complexity of the interest.... kind regards, Ben from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Yep, they should film different aspects of the players' lives, like seeing them getting fitted for their clubs, watching them film adverts and getting their lines wrong, etc. Other things such as discussing techniques with other players on the range. I think it's a different filming crew and director that do the F1 show. I don't think Full Swing has the same filming and editing skill that they have with music and filming angles etc.
As Guy pointed out most golfers don't care what tour Pro's use - most club golfers haven't got the swing or club head speed of a tour Pro. I get more knowledge of different branded clubs from the likes of Rick's reviews, than I get from which tour Pro endorses which manufacturer.
Rick, Suggestion for the Swilican Bridge grass approaches. Create removable trays of real grass with the exact contours of the current group on either side of the bridge. With about 4-5 sets of trays for each side, they could be rotated on a roughly weekly basis. The ones not in use would be stored in nearby area. They could be maintained exactly like the rest of St Andrews course so that the grass closely matches the current condition of the surrounding area. If done properly with proper engineering, drainage and precise fitting, the seam would be invisible.
The St Andrews Link Trust has removed the "patio" at the Swilcan Bridge. Rumour has it, that it was Sir Nick Faldos comments, but we all know it was because of Rick and Guy. Great job guys! True legends of the world of golf.
The PGA record for fewest putts in 72 holes is 92 by David Frost at the 2005 MCI Heritage at Harbor Town. Unfortunately he came in tied at 38th with a 6 under score of 290.
as i contemplated cancelling netflix, i received my monthly charge. then i saw the trailer for Full Swing. i really hope they drop the whole season at once.
It's interesting hearing you guys talk about how tournaments are weighted differently in terms of prizing and prestige. It's something I've never considered as strange because I'm active in the Fighting Game community and fighting games like Street Fighter and Smash bros are very similar in week to week tournaments. There are always large tournaments every week, but they're not always worth as much as far as rankings and prizes are concerned. The top players don't always play each large event every week and the number of top players that go to this large events tends to really effect rankings at the end of the year.
Cobra drivers are very popular with club golfers, I played in a four ball comp. last weekend at Prestbury GC and three of us were using Cobra drivers. Neol Bridge
2+2=4, you'd think. The fact Micah and Grant were doing vids with Bryson had people think they were signing with Cobra. They both then go and sign with TaylorMade, and then Bryson uses Stealth 2.
Great podcast again chaps… I just want to touch on the point you make around the “frustration” of videos not being released on time. Although it does get frustrating for us viewers, and I can imagine a lot more frustrating for you and the production team, I feel the new style of break 75 videos really show the effort and commitment you guys put into them. They’re quality viewing, and even if we have to wait a few days for them to be released, they’re always worth waiting for. Keep up the great work, and keep the great content coming 👍🏻 ps we need more James Robinson on the show #ManCrush 🤣
It's clear, especially listening to Rick's comments, that the LIV players are employees of that Company. Sure! they are highly paid employees, but they'll have to do what they're asked to do by their employer. NO LONGER INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS!
I work at Netflix and watched the whole thing with my wife. She actually really enjoyed it, and I think it was perfect for me just really getting into golf and going to play at least once the past 6 weeks. Allowed me to understand how the PGA works and allowed me to appreciate what the pros accomplish even more, and that golf is hard for the pros too
Congrats on the Scottie Guy. I have tried probably 50 Scottie putters over the years. Each one felt different. I tried one maybe 15 years ago that felt absolutely amazing....and I did not grab it. Since then I have always tried them and haven't found that feel. Last year, I found that feel again. This time I did not let it get away.
Update on the Swilcan Bridge... they have removed the patio stones...returning the grass and reassessing what they are going to do to improve conditions in that spot
The Bridge: What I've noticed in the publicity for the last few days - Almost all pictures on the bridge do not show the apron areas - the widely circulated comparison pictures are not the same colour cast - the apron ones "bright up" the stonework, making it look much more apparent.
700 years ago Im sure there was somebody standing in front of the new bridge and saying ,"well now you've down it you wrecked the view of the creek with that dam bridge" give it some time and it will become part of the history.
Rick has more brand influence for me than the pros. I've been playing Taylor Made drivers since 2003. Watching Rick's reviews led to the Cobra SZ, then the LTDx. Would've bought a stealth which my friends have and I don't like. Thanks Rick! When you're in SoCal I owe you a round of golf!
Bryson will sign with the manufacturer that gives him the R&D department to use as his very own workshop. Unsigned, he has to use what ever the tour van or fitting center will give him. I bet a couple of the equipment companies want nothing to do with him, because he can be such a pain in the a$$. Also, almost all contracts have a clause that allows the player to use any club that want, IF the contracted brand does not perform to their requirements.
Guy makes a really good point that I experienced myself. I tried Srixon ZX7s because Koepka was gaming them. Had no plans to buy them but I ended up getting along with them so well that I did. I would not have tried Srixon irons otherwise.
I think Ping has an interesting way of going about things. I didn’t buy the i210 and G425 Woods because of a single player. But, they’re just used by so many across all the Men’s and Ladies tours and that definitely factored into the decision.
I can’t see Cobra being bothered if Bryson stay with them , not the most popular player and would be nice to see them with someone else on there roster
Guy, I play a Circa 62 to this day. I use the No. 4, but its been in the bag for over 10 years. You just have to steel wool the surface and keep it rubbed down with a Silicone spray or WD 40.

Super nice of you. Legends
You guys are the best! Seriously it made the day to see you and Rick team up.
LOVE watching y'all's Stacked Golf channel!!!!
Next time let's see a match of a stacked scramble vs rick. Honestly should be pretty close.
PS after we filmed this we found out that St Andrews Links have decided to do a u-turn on the Swilcan Bridge changes! What do you think about it?
I get the reason why they did it because of the amount of foot traffic. However, it could have been done in a better way and not as noticeable with maybe putting some Astro/fake turf down rather than trying to match the existing bridge.

Man, I love you guys. Watching Guy crack Rick up over the size of the Swilcan bridge put me in mind of the Stonehenge prop from "This is Spinal Tap."
Last week: Taylomade in trouble as Rory isn’t using Stealth 2.0. This week: Bryson using Stealth 2.0.
