    • @matthewscott2538

@@andymacduff2 I think the point is players need the ability to be adaptable to the changes in their game. Right now Rory is looking at what Callaway is doing with their drivers and probably wishing he was able to throw it in his bag and give it a shot. TaylorMade isn't doing anything to innovate their equipment besides the carbon face. Outside of that they have tweaked and added money bumps to their drivers and then do a GREAT job marketing the products. You could even argue the carbon face is not producing nearly the stats that titanium is still producing. Honestly if Titleist were to steal the head of TaylorMade's marketing department, then the TSR driver would be in every players hands and the carbon face driver would phase out quickly.

Taylormade do NOT built clubs for just for professional golfers. That is nonsense. All the golf Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) build their clubheads based on the USGA/R&A specifications. The shaft and grips usually come from different companies. If buying directly from the OEM, they usually offer different shafts and grips so golfers can pick & choose what they thinks works best for them. And it is why it is highly recommended for all golfers to go to a fitting studio and get fitted for the clubs they wish to play.
The Stealth-2 Driver Head Rory uses is the same Driver Head available to ALL golfers. Sure, one can change the back-weight or sliding-weight, one can alter the Adapter Sleeve to affect lie angle and face angle, one can choose to play a different shaft... heavier/lighter, longer (up to 48") or shorter, softer flex or stiffer flex. They may even choose a different lofted Driver head, but it's all the same equipment the professional golfers use.
Rory uses the Ventus Black, (tipped at 1"), 60g X-Flex Shaft, made by Fujikura. I have literally found two identically tipped Fujikura Ventus Black X-Flex shaft with 2 different (Butt) frequencies. Things like that happens with golf equipment. Rory’s problems could be identified and rectified. They could start by checking the club’s MOI against his old driver.

Some good points about TM. TM are great at promotion though. No doubt the best in golf. I've have always wondered about how much revenue having a player on the books generates. Personally I've never chosen a pieces of equipment based on who uses it. Reviews by yourself, Sophie Walker or James Robinson for example have been far more influential. I bought my G425 from Trafford AG and recall the fitter telling me how often people have come in to try the Stealth and walk out with Ping or Callaway. So in many respects TM's shortcomings in designing a driver for the average man has driven sales for other manufactures. I agree. I agree TM save cash on tour players. Invest in demo days. Reduce the price point and design a club Pro's want to stick in their bags without paying them to do so. No better indorsemant than that is there?

I loved the M5. Played it for 3 years. Didn't see any reason to move to a SIM or SIM2...when the Stealth came out, I got fitted for a Stealth+...I hit it well and 20 yards farther than my M5...so I went with the Stealth+ last year. On the course, I found what Rick found. Inconsistency. When I hit it well, it was nice, but just a bit off and it could go anywhere. So this year I decided to try something. I got fitted for a Stealth2+ and a Paradym....took both home and tested them in my simulator. I found the Stealth2+ to hit the same speed/distance as the original Stealth+ and more controlled and consistent.....then I found the Paradym to be so much better. Much more consistent and easier to control and faster and farther than the TaylorMade. Even off hits go farther and straighter than most Stealth2 hits.

I think brands have forgotten the concept of making the best clubs which players want to use, versus paying players to use their clubs. I'd feel more confident buying a club or brand because it has genuine backing from players. One of the reasons I decided on zx7 irons over p770’s is because Brooks chose them when he was brand free.

    • @tomvankamperdijk4392
      @tomvankamperdijk4392 Год назад

What has that to do with your swing? I would never take a set of clubs because a tour pro uses them. Even when he is brand free. Simply because I can't swing a golfclub like a tourpro. In Brooks his case I hardly doubt that there wasn't a sponsor deal there because it was announced soon after. He did play Mizuno JPX 919 Tour brand free.

@@tomvankamperdijk4392 I think you misunderstood my comment Tom. I didn't pick the zx7’s just because Brooks used them. It was a brilliant move for TaylorMade/Callaway to begin hiring influencers to help market their stuff. It feels like popular influencers such as Bob Does Sports could have the potential to move more product than a big name like Rory because they are more relatable as fellow high/mid handicappers (besides FP). If you see Joey Coldcuts cranking a bunch of great drives in a video, then he attributes them to his new Paradym driver, that could easily be more influential since most viewers are mid/high HCP. You can also hire them for pennies on the dollar compared to top tour pro's. We all expect someone like Rory to stripe the ball every time, even with hickory sticks. Most of us aren't delusional enough to think "if I buy that driver I'll hit like Rory", but seeing other high/mid HCP'ers hitting well with it could hold some real weight.

Brilliant conversation about the way clubs are manufactured and I agree that there needs to be a change. There are loads of good points in here. Though getting the average consumer to pick the right club would be MUCH more difficult. The TaylorMade Smasher 4-12 handicap would cover about the top 25% of players out there. But how many players are currently playing a shaft that is too fast for them? Lots. Getting the average player to admit where their game is and buy equipment for that game, I don't know how that would go over.

Regarding cheats in golf, I’ve seen so many ‘trophy hunters’ and handicap manipulators in the last 20 years. I was brought up to try to achieve the lowest handicap you can as a test of your game. Prizes at club competitions almost encourage people to manipulate handicaps so they can be serial prize winners

100% agree with Rick; cheats need to be called out at the moment. Waiting does nothing to improve the situation and may backfire when people think you're petty. There is a way to approach the cheat that isn't so accusatory. "Not sure if you know the lift, clean and place rules, but the ball needs to be placed within 6 inches of the spot it came and rest."

In regards to the equipment manufacturers putting their R&D into the average player and fine tuning the line for a pro with the "TP" Line, isn't this what Callaway is doing ? They have the ST Rogue line for the Masses and offer a PRO version in irons and triple diamond in woods. For the Apex they market the Apex standard strong and offer the Apex Pro line for the low handicapper and Tour Player. I also see something similar from Mizuno. Is this what you were thinking?

Im playing the SIM Max, and still love it. I’ve hit Taylormade since I was in grade school in the late 80’s. I’ve hit others, but I always go back to TM. I feel like it’s individuals vs. the brand. I feel like if a player plays for a brand, they should be able to use whichever club they wanted from that brand. Did I look at my SIM because of who was hitting it, sure, but I was also due a new driver and that’s what I felt suited me the best for my swing and my game. No hate either way, just my thoughts.
With what you said about having a “regular” and a TP, I feel like Taylormade used to do that. They used to have TP drivers, they still call some of their putters TP (not sure they are). But yes, why not get back to that?

Every single weekend I end up wanting to watch, but always spend time working in the yard or playing baseball or golf myself.

For PGA, I would watch on Thur-Fri while working (just a window on the computer), and then on my phone or tablet while golfing...but that isn't an option unless you want to get a subscription service. Some of the "direct to consumer" brands openly say that they can sell their products cheaper because they don't pay a fortune sponsoring tour pros. Inesis have a page on their site explaining exactly this, and what they spend their money on. There's definitely an opportunity for a big manufacturer to get ahead and drop their tour pros in favour of the club golfer.

Stealth 2 may just be a bad driver for him
