    Leadbetter is magic. I played in a pro-am years ago and we were able to spend a day at his academy. He happened to personally come up to me and spent 5 minutes showing me a simple backswing change (much like this) and he had me playing out of my mind.

    Garrett is a victim of his own skill. He’s good enough to always be able to hit it from almost every position. I would love to see what he could shoot by drilling like this. Lots of fun to watch and really helpful. Much appreciated.

    • @blue24563

      It’s the downfall of a good athlete. If your hand-eye coordination is very good, you can get away with poor technique and believe your technique is sound by seeing the results. But under pressure, the tension takes its effect on your natural ability to compensate for technical flaws and it can go awry very easily.

      Rylan, really practice your chipping and putting when possible. Those last few strokes to scratch come from being able to get up and down from anywhere once you've missed a green, and you will miss a few greens. Good luck.

      To get to scratch you need to do 3 things:
      1. Hit the fairway
      2. Hit more fairways
      3. Hit all fairways
      As a 10 or 5 you lack the game to hit greens from imperfect lies. It's like a .5-1.0 shot penalty missing the short grass.

    I was always under the impression that the takeaway was not that important like many. Turns out its what makes the swing. I watched bubbies coaching and literally without any practice went out and hit 3 straight pars in the first round after which I have never done. Its absolutely phenomenal how simple David Leadbetter makes it.

    I’m about a 15 handicap. I obviously struggle with consistency. I just went and practiced the leading elbow thing. Seemed counter intuitive, but I’ll be damned, not only am I hitting it straighter more consistently, way more distance as well. This is gold! Thank you.

    • @BrianLincourt
      @BrianLincourt Год назад +2

      I had a similar, positive experience. Currently have a 12 handicap, but have been as low as 9. I worked on a subtle lead arm roll. I found that my contact was good, and even in 40 degree temps on Trackman Range, I was picking up a solid 1/2 to 1 club length improvement. With the colder temps, I still posted 243 carry/275 total distance with my driver. Pretty good numbers for me---especially with a 40F temp. I will be curious to see if this holds up when it's for real and the weather is warmer. First impression was good though. And my swing felt good and repeatable.

    Had 2 kids and had to stop playing golf for a few years.. I recently started playing again. Talk about steep into the ball, it’s been driving me crazy. Video after video, on the range. Lessons. Nothing working. I end up seeing this Ledbetter straightaway and start watching videos. I started practicing the take awake today at the range. It felt strange the first ten balls I hit, I was hozeling everything. Once I started feeling comfortable I was flushing every iron. Really unbelievable, this was the best lesson I ever had and it was free. I ordered that straight away anyways. Truly amazing. I was watching video of myself the last few weeks and was totally disgusted with what my take away even looked like. My down swing move was steep and over the top no matter what I tried. Truly amazing I recommend to anyone who wants to change there game instantly…..

    Just worked on this with my pro. I was getting stuck behind with a low, flat hip plane takeaway. He put a pool noodle about hip high parallel with my knees and said takeaway above this. Striped 7i about 165 all night, great for me. Leadbetter goes into more detail, but it's the first time I felt the smash of the compression from being ahead of the ball AND swung hard enough to feel my reg flex get "whippy". Awesome vid.

I think a lot of better players have gotten in this over-the-line backswing and then trying to make a big shallowing move in transition via shoulder/forearm rotation, when you can just bring that position to the top and then release from there? Tiger's rounded/laid-off swing with Haney will always be the GOAT

    I got a very similar lesson from a lad called Barry Power in Dublin about 12 years ago. He actually reckoned you could play well just by doing that half swing (ie the drill) but I never had the guts to try it.
    Only problem with that lesson is that if you arent naturally good at making a good hip/body turn your arms can end up lifting anyway (this was always the problem I had). But if you are comfortable making the actual turn away from the ball that is an awesome lesson.
