never ceases to amaze me how whenever I watch David Leadbetter give someone a lesson, he almost invariably addresses issues with their backswing. Thanks for posting
I love how consistent Lead’s messaging is. The sign of a teacher who is sure of his ideas. The best in the world say they focus on fundamentals, and you can see here the best teachers reinforce that.
I agree but you can also tell he's making a product and doing some early marketing here. If his new device helped some other part of the swing, he'd be focusing on that. But still great advice from a great teacher.
Love these videos with David , I’ve been taking all tips on board and shot my best score ever last week , even par through 9 ! Hope the lessons on good good extra keep up
since bubbies lesson ive learnt alot and played alot better and i think this one is gonna help even more thanks foe these vids and david for helping you guys
I 100% started realizing that pros have been doing the partial takeaway. Screw waggling (what I used to do ALL the time). All about that takeaway position now. Thank you for the free lesson GG and Lead!
Same! And I have been trying it out and it’s definitely helping my consistency. I’m not the best ball striker but this has helped me get in much better positions. 3 of the good good guys all needed that same takeaway lesson which shows how important it is for your swing. Now I notice pros do it too like you just said.
I copied this drill today and spent an hour or so hitting shots. It completely changed my swing. I’m hitting almost everything straight and way further. Not topping anything anymore. Absolutely unbelievable and such a simple drill. Wow
It's because they all have the same problem (except for maybe Garrett)... The bulk of them have issues dragging the club inside and none of them use their lower body well.
You the man Matt. Take this too the course. I suggest rewatching this video a few times, I kinda feel like Steve forgot quite literally every word of his lesson the moment he left top golf that day Could be wrong but it’s a lot of information in 10 minutes.
Steve has zero interest in golf. He is boys with the guys. If they want to continue to grow the brand they need to get rid of the guy. Give him a nice severance package. Give it a year and both grant and Micah will pass good good in subs on their solo channels
@@ReKo1990haha so wrong. I can't believe how many people forgot how this channel even started. It was built on the crew being 'boys". The were hitting frying pans around a golf course. This has never been the channel for the most technical golf their are other channels that do that everyone needs to stop trying to make this channel one of those.
@@74rocktiger74 except it’s the truth. Good good has hardly grown in 8 months. Micah and grants channels are taking off. The average consumer wants to watch good golf. They don’t want to watch trash
@@ReKo1990 your feelings are not "truth" the only reason their channels grew is because good good subscribers also subscribed to them. Their subscriber growth has been down since the initial rush from the split. Just because it's something you don't like doesn't mean that's how the rest of the world feels. Good good and Bob does sports has a wider appeal than most other golf channel because they are just average golfers who are having fun on the course, again if you don't like it their are plenty other channels out there go watch someone else.
@@74rocktiger74 I don’t operate on “feelings” bud. We operate on logic. I am a high level coach and do it for a living. I analyze and see weaknesses in teams and working at improving them. This is logical- they may very well be cool with status quo- I am, and a lot of other viewers are not enamored with the direction. The Dubai masters was pure garbage.
I hurt my back pretty bad last year. Was a result of early extension+trying to get in good impact positions(trail side bend). The two don't mix. Learning to squat in my downswing cured me.
For irons: im doing this exactly backswing Leadbetter told Garret and the Malaska's hands down and club head out concept in downswing. For approaching 80yds or less: Doing Gary Player's approaching vtip
I remember and tried that process in David's article. It's very difficult to get accurate posture without any reference to the ground. I felt it was easier to get a good takeaway than getting an accurate posture with the club part-way back.
best analogy for striking well is pretend you're skimming a stone, then replace that stone with the club. When you skim a stone your whole body is a chained sequence, starting with lower half to generate whip into the arms (golf club). it's all released at that flick of the wrist. You give someone a golf club for the first time and they only use arms, that penetrating low flight comes from centre of gravity being closer to lead leg at impact, smothering the ball.
For those complaining that it's the same lesson taught over and over. It's likely that you don't understand how important the take away is and how important it is to not swing against a closed, non-rotated body at impact. Gaurantee the bulk of commentors get almost no hip or upper body rotation in the swing and likely drag the club dead insinde on the take away.
I am surprised how some need to throw shade at David Leadbetter. He is a pioneer of golf instruction and will always be considered one of the all-time great coaches.
Does anyone at GG know anything about where to find that TakeAway device David is using in these lesson videos? When it is coming out? Where to get one? PLEASE?!
I get the first move of the takeaway...he's a big component of that first 3 feet...my question is how do you get the club to the top from the initial takeaway?
As much as I cannot stand Matt usually, I thought he was a great student here. Listening and asking really good questions - and, as usual, Mr Leadbetter with brilliant, concise and relatable advice. All the GG sessions with DL have been well worth watching....Gareth is my favourite ;D
I had the same issue as Bubby from his lesson vid, absolutely stole the tips and it's already game changing for irons. Leadbetter is a genius at understanding when and where a swing goes wrong
i gotta say these vids with Mr.Leadbetter, in particular this series with Matt's swing speed cuz it mimics my game style more so, was HELLLA helpful. Would love to see more lessons with some pro's and all the good good boys getting lessons etc..
Actually, I'm shocked Matt can get any distance at all. He has zero club lag. I remember seeing slow motion of Tiger's swing. On the downstroke, his hands reached his right hip while the club head was still horizontal. That's where his amazing speed came from. Matt doesn't bend his left wrist at the top. It seems to work fine for him though.
It will take all the guys a 1000 practice balls to start feeling comfortable with this very easy move…. Please can you all report back when you are finished the 1000 and then you can start the next 1000 😂
This guy appears to give every single soul the same lesson/advice for years … hands in, club out.. look at Rahm, he does just fine turning his hands early
Not the best lesson for Matt, he’s an athlete, he just needs to be confident in his swing like he was in Cali. He doesn’t really need to change anything
Any lesson that unlocks a frame of reference is a good lesson. For example he now knows two things. #1 the effect taking the club too far away from the optimal swing path has, and #2 the feeling of not opening up his body in time and hooking shots off to the left. When you can identify the things that can go wrong in ANY swing, you know when you've done it wrong in your swing and that helps eliminate inconsistency. Which is Matt's #1 complaint to David at the start...
@@FloridaManRacer yeah that’s a good point for sure. I jus think Matt is a solid athlete and his body can get in positions that’s comfortable for his confidence. Yeah I think you’re right tho.

I've read Mr. Leadbetter's A Swing book and enjoyed it but the Straight Away device really helps you visualize the key precepts for the takeaway.

I love that David has swings from professionals on his phone for quick reference at any time.
