  • Victims’ families get their final say in court prior to the sentencing of the Parkland school shooter. The statements follow a nearly three-month trial, after which a jury of seven men and five women could not unanimously agree on the death penalty for the convicted killer, resulting in a life sentence.

This speech sounds like something someone would say right before being recruited by Batman. And I can't blame her. My life has been a living hell, and I would never hurt anyone. I understand that abuse can make people mean, and change them, but there is no excuse for this. None. Even if a holocaust survivor went on a killing spree, it would be their responsibility. I'm against the death penalty because I don't like government having that power, but hearing these victims speak out has made me question my own beliefs.

She's just processing her grief and she's right to feel angry. However, she's wrong about the death penalty. I doubt she would have felt better if he escaped justice by taking his own life. The jury is NOT at fault. This wasn't a win or lose case for the families. He confessed and the only options were life w/o parole and the death penalty.

Even though the trail outcome wasn’t what you hoped for, please take solice in knowing that the defendant will likely not have a moment of peace in prison. When all is said and done, he will probably wish he got the punishment he should have gotten.

I wrote the following, while pondering the composure and eloquence of Meghan Petty, big sister to Alaina Petty, who was killed on that horrible day. :(
    Beautiful Big Sister
It is rare to witness such purity of word,
wherein so much depth of everything
    is palpable, when it's heard.
The way you displayed your being,
    with so much harnessed thought,
bearing the heart of a sister,
    in such horrible trauma, caught,
    while delivering with such focus
and power worth echo through ages,
as your love gave artisan craft
to the love for your sister that rages.
Your ability to share what is true,
as you translate it through your eyes,
    matured on the anvil pain,
    to surgically scalpel disguise,
is glowing evidence of the quality
of sister you were and are.
That you were ever a wing who shielded her,
you can be sure you were her star.
I do not pretend to write anything
    that can minimize your pain
or reduce the tears you are sure to cry
    throughout the years you remain,
but I noticed you worthy of a poet's applause
for what would make a little sister proud,
as you gave a gift to the World,
by pouring your soul, out loud.
    Thank you.
    Sincerely,
alumni of Sandy Hook and Survivor of two bullets,,
