@DiablerieNot in protective custody, it is soley up to prison staff to maintain his safety, they have a job to do, and with such a infamous prisoner, they have a lot of responsibility and a huge amount of scrutiny will be on them. Liability both financially and legally will be on their heads from the bottom, to the very top if correct procedures are intentionally or otherwise lead to his injury or death. Look at the amount of infamous killers who have lived out their full lives in prison

The families were given a lot of restrictive orders including: no facial expression, no colourful clothes, no clothes with writing eg the names of their children (listen to Mrs Guttenberg enumerate them). So Mr Oliver was able to 'break' restrictions on the occasion of these post-decision, concluding speeches.

This is the first and only statement I've witnessed about the trial, and completely at random, so I can only share some words of respect. A cartoon emoji salute isn't enough, wishing more hate towards the inhuman garbage he's speaking to isn't enough, so I'm commenting what I can because it's the only option that I have. 🤘
Here's a father who loved his child. Being unable to protect his son from something unimaginable is something I am not sure I could get past. I hope he and his family and all impacted get some peace.
For real I have two young boys 7-4 and if something like this happened to them I’d go to prison to kill this monster if I had to.
I applaud the parents for their courage to stand up and speak powerful messages. I pray they finally get that call their justice was served and I also pray everyone of the attorneys and their employees for the defense all lose their licenses. Continue to fight all the way til we get the change we all deserve . Protect our Children.

His son doesnt even need protecting in the first place because its a school. He sent his son to school to learn only for Joaquin to get murdered and hunted by this pathetic excuse of a human being. There is something really wrong when someone can easily get an assault weapon, ride an uber, hide the weapon in an instrument case, who then proceed to murder 17 and injure another 17 and then calmly walk away to order something in subway.

This father’s eloquence brings tears to my eyes the restraint shown despite the anguish he suffers was classically given and felt by all those with shared empathy .
I give this man so much credit for what he did. He was willing to stay home so he wouldn't disrupt the trial (blasted defense team would have loved if he had), and came in to tell it like it is. He was barely controlled, but bless him he kept it together. This murderer destroyed the lives of all these families, and it makes me sick how much they all are still suffering as if it just happened yesterday. My heart goes out to all of the families. I applaud the prosecution team for handling this with excellent decorum, and the judge who was absolutely awesome at how she sympathetically and very professionally handled this very very difficult case. My love, and prayers will continue to pray for healing to the families.

Joaquin was such a handsome, sweet young man, it's obvious he is loved and cherished by his family and all he came in contact with. His father's strength and wisdom is evident. I don't know that I could endure what these families have, the strength and composure they've displayed is inspiring. He is the pillar of his family, his son would be so proud of him. My heart literally ached for him and all the families who waited 4 years for this token of justice fir their children. I write token because it is the best that can be gotten. The children can not come back. But the killer has no chance of ever being free ever again. May justice come to too many other families who await their day in court for the murders of their children by similarly hateful young murderers -too many school, store, concert, etc shootings. 😪😪😪

By far one of the most powerful victim impact statements I’ve ever heard. I have the upmost respect for these parents as they’ve truly displayed such awesome strength of character, restraint, class, bared their hearts & souls, & used their terrible losses to fuel them to make meaningful changes to protect others. Seeing that monster be unmoved by the suffering he inflicted upon so many shows he has neither empathy or remorse & has no place in civilized society. It’s sad they jury failed to provide real justice to these precious families. I have a feeling, as he said, someone will take up the cause & steal his ‘fame.’ As some who’s lost a family member to a murderer I empathize with them on a level I hope no one else ever has to suffer the pain of knowing. My prayers continue to be with them.
I saw another one that’s was powerful on RUclips. It was a case where a guy killed his gf and the sister or aunt gave a powerful victim statement.
Intelligence too. They are such a true American sampling of people, that everyone can relate to and identify with. It’s just so terrible, what this murderer did.

My heart goes out to the victims of this tragic loss. As parents we carry their burden and must do better as a society to take all measures in preventing such horrible events. Our children need us more now than ever.

I've watched (from a long way away, in Australia) most of the statements of the families of those killed, all of them spoke well, made well structured, articulate statements that really hit home to most people. They also showed their rightful anger at the murderer, the shameful defence team, and the "justice system".
But that murderer is not like most people, he doesn't care of their pain, suffering and loss. He has no idea, no comprehension of such things. If anything, in his twisted mind their statements validated his actions.
But this guy, Joaquim's father, he got to him. He said the things that really got into his head. You can see it in his eyes. The loss of "fame", the fact he will die in pain, and that after everything, no one will care about him.
Well done Mr Oliver, Sir. You have my respect, and you all have my deepest condolences. I lost my son just before his 16th birthday, so I think I understand your pain.

Such a tragedy. All the kids lives lost and their families left to grieve. Joaquin Oliver was such a beautiful boy. He was so handsome but listening to how his family and friends speak of him shows truly how beautiful he was. His parents are so gracious. I can’t imagine such loss. They are in my prayers as well as all of the other families who so tragically lost their babies way too soon.
I lost a brother in an auto accident 41 years ago..he was 17...It was and still is the most God-awful thing I have ever experienced till this day...but I can in no way come close to feeling these families pain..I was always told it would get better...but I can honestly say I miss him more now as I get older....all I can say is.."JUST KEEP BREATHING".

It’s not gotten easier because it’s just been that much longer since I’ve seen him.. my life before and after this incident aren’t even remotely identical

I lost a brother in a car accident also.. he was 16yrs old. I was 11 at the time. Jacob Harris. He was killed in a police chase that he wasn't involved in, at all . Cop crossed 3 lanes into oncoming traffic to go around my brother in the center lane as he was turning left.. Just the wrong place at the wrong time. Well, and one jacked up hillbilly cop from a small town excited to finally see some action lol.. anyways, I turned 30 February of this year. Really sorry for your loss brother🙏
Dylan Brean was a friend of mine and coworker for 4 months. He died in a forklift accident at 21. Very sad.

Some ordinary day turns to your own hell on earth as you watch your mom dad son daughter covered in blood gasping for life you are helpless when they look in your eyes begging not to die, then they die you have a front row seat to the demise of your loved one. This father's words were powerful and the pauses between sentences made his words more stronger and to the point - If this father was my teacher when I was a kid I would of paid attention in class how can anyone not listen to what he had to say - So sorry for your loss so senseless my prayers are with your son and family may he rest in peace 🌹

This father has been so vocal in gun reform since this happened. I’m pretty sure they put him last on purpose bc he doesn’t like to censor himself at all and says it like it is. I’m really impressed with the composure he had here. I really wanted someone to just tear into him. So many had such deep impactful statements. I don’t think I had a dry eye for any of them.

I felt for all of the parents that have spoke during this trial. This father speaking though honestly made me weak to my knees and chills in my body. I felt him speaking in my soul. May God bless these parents and families

I love this man. The love he has for his precious son that is lost because of a monster. And the restraint he showed. I don't think I would have the strength that all these families of the victims are showing. God bless each and every family member and friends with comfort and peace. I unfortunately know the heart break of losing a child. My son in 2012. The pain is always with you, but God is our greatest comfort.
