'You Terrorized Children': Judge Rips Jodi Hildebrandt Before Sending Her to Prison

- A Utah judge sentenced Jodi Hildebrant to one to 15 years in prison Tuesday. Hildebrandt and her business partner, RUclips mom Ruby Franke, pleaded guilty to numerous counts of child abuse. The convicted abuser briefly spoke at sentencing and claimed she pleaded guilty so the victims would not have to "emotionally relive" their experience at her hands. "You terrorized children," John J. Walton said to Hildebrandt before sending her to prison.

under the same treatment you gave THOSE TWO KIDS!!!"
It wasn't just 2 kids that she abused, she abused her niece, those 2 kids, and who knows how many others in between over the last 15 years. Past behavior is predictive of future behavior and unfortunately l don't see too many people coming forward because she psychologically brainwashed her victims into thinking they deserved it and the parents that dished it out certainly aren't going to turn themselves in as the abusers.
Except it’s so heinous and cruel that it’s unconstitutional…yet MULTIPLE kids (that we know of) endured that 🙄

There most definitely are NOT "two sides" in a child-torture case.
Her lawyer said that there are two sides to every case but quite forgot to mention what the other side in this case is. It seemed to me to be that last desperate effort of a lawyer with nothing to say.

How did Franke's husband get off scot free? His failure to protect his own children was criminal.
I don't disagree but that's not how the law works.
They weren't in his custody and they didn't live together when the abuse escalated. The court would have to prove he willingly knew and did nothing, which is near impossible here.
He should have been prosecuted with them. He’s a disgusting human being who cares more for his psychopath wife than his poor children.

I thought the same thing when Ruby was sentenced. If she takes the classes and programs and stays out of trouble, they could both be out in four years. Horrible.

@@sheldonmurphy6031most defense attorneys separate their morality from their contractual duty to their client, thus there is no reason to ask for forgiveness as it’s simply an occupational requirement. That being said there are many defense attorneys who avoid certain clients based on their charges.

Because Hildibrand talked Frank into buying a LARGE property in the Arizona desert. She had stated, “let’s see if they try to run away here”! A Detective said IF they had moved, the children wouldn’t have lived after being subject to the outside punishments they were previously subjective to. Arizona is hotter than where they were!

She needs 60 years in prison for what she did to those children.
She won’t. Utah state penal code prevents consecutive terms exceeding 30 years, and unfortunately it’s unlikely she’ll serve even that. Given that she has no prior felony convictions, (and is a respected member of the Mormon church which runs that state like a mafia) a parole board will probably free her in as little as 4 years.

Unbelievably brave given he must of been terrified he would have to face their anger and their punishments if he had failed in getting help for himself and his sister.
Brave, only in that he and all those kids must have been really messed up under mom's spell. Because in most other child abuse situations, a twelve year old boy would have taken a baseball bat to his sadistically abusive mother. A 12 year old kid is about in 7th grade. 7th graders play rough tackle league football, wrestling, hockey. In some countries they fight in wars. Why didn't he escape sooner? I guess he was brainwashed into thinking Satan would catch him and drag him home to mommy and her torture schemes.
Esp being caught last year and likely punished severely. He risked his life to get away again. Jodi was out there 20 mins after he escaped looking for him. Imagine if that kind neighbor had turned him away.

Jodi had ruined so many lives, even before she did this to the children of Ruby Franky.. Never forget as a therapist she hated men and many woman at Jody's behest were pitted against their own husbands and even had to divorce them. We have seen how much she hated children too. She should absolutely not be allowed back into society because she has no regrets whatever and would just continue ruining even more lives in the future! I assume that all her diplomas as a therapist have already been taken away from her for live?

@Mehki227 , I would have to disagree. Prison politics always come into play. You have women who are locked for selling drugs or other crimes. Those women miss and love their kids just like anyone would. So when they get a new female inmate and they find out she hurt and tortured her kids. Someone will get at her.

It was clear that her lawyer's hands were tied and he had nothing to work with. She clearly thinks the children and/or Ruby were wholly to blame, as evidenced by her lack of cooperation with the pre-sentence report team and her extremely sparse statement. She is a deluded and dangerous person.

Hildebrandt's sentence should have been life in prison. Imagine if the boy who escaped had not, this horrific treatment would have continued and possibly killed one of the children. Hildebrandt is pure evil, and evil has no place in our society.

As a licensed therapist myself, I'm curious to know what her education and credentials are. No professional, ethical therapist would EVER do what she did.
Jodi has an M.S. in Educational Psychology. Those are sketchy credentials for Family/Child Therapy. That was the 1st thing I looked up. With that degree, isn't it usually for high school counseling, setting students' schedules, etc?

You know what irks me is knowing the fact that Kevin said there were several FAMILES that Jodi was counseling, so every single one of those families should be having a welfare check into those children as well. I'm sure those children were being treated exactly the same way, and those parents aren't going to turn themselves in for child abuse if, like Kevin said, they adored Jodi's teachings so damn much.

Our laws on crimes against children are awful!!! I think the judge in the Shanda VanDerark trial is a hero- he said nope, I’m going outside the guidelines given to me and giving you more time because the guidelines aren’t enough for this.

Even though I believe every indicted person has a right to an attorney, I don't think I could stomach the job.

It's a job someone must do and pays very well. Most defense attorneys have no conscience in life that's why they're able to do it. They show no empathy and have no remorse, just like their clients.

There are probably some that are innocent. That's why we have this system. "Better to let 10 guilty men go than convict 1 innocent man" (because that innocent person may be you) No system is perfect, but I wouldn't trade ours for 95% of other countries systems.

4 to 60 years - why cant the judge just commit to a definitive sentence - ridiculous
because of that 30 day appeal clause in Utah. if he gives the full sentence today they will appeal. if the state of utah waits until March 19 (its a leap year this year) - they cant appeal.
Utah's strange justice system. The parole board gets to determine the sentence and if and when she might be up for parole or not. She could serve a minimum of 4 years to a maximum of 60 years.
It is part of how the penalties are set out and is also to do with the plea agreement he was following the plea.
It puts it into the hand of the parole board after four years, I'm assuming she has to do the four years at least?
As different offenses come under different penalty and sentencing laws. The judge has to follow what is set out from the powers at be. Judges don't make the sentence up at the time their are rules and guidelines, parameters to follow.
Maximum of 30 years - not 60 - on second degree felonies in Utah. There was no chance of 60 years

It’s incredible how much remorse she feels in court when she’s being sentenced but when she’s on the phone to her friends she expresses absolutely none.

I hate when people say "the judges failed the victims." More often than not, judges are bound by a certain sentence range for many cases that are very low for a majority of crimes. It's not neccessarily the judge's fault that he's restricted by what law makers have imposed.

If this woman were released tomorrow, she would be terrorizing new children by the end of the week. There is not a doubt in my mind she will return to committing even more heinous acts than before. When she began her pitiful speech, and said she truly loves these children, my jaw actually physically hit the floor. I cannot believe she actually said that. Jodi had ruined so many lives, even before she did this to the children of Ruby Franky.. Never forget as a therapist she hated men and many woman at Jody's behest were pitted against their own husbands and even had to divorce them. We have seen how much she hated children too. So, basically the judge sentenced these 2 monsters to 4 years in prison for the atrocities they committed against CHILDREN; and left it to the LDS church to determine how much longer they should remain in prison. RIDICULOUS!
All about the plea agreement. It is a minimum sentence and goes to 60 years it is left in the hand of the parole board.

Thinking of her niece Jessie today. Jessie is a wonderful young person that is an inspiration to me! The fact that she is who she is today despite the horrors that Jodi inflicted upon her is amazing. I only wish Jodi could be charged with the crimes she committed against Jessie❤️
