- Video shows Ruby Franke’s son after he escaped Jodi Hildebrandt’s home on August 30, 2023. The 12-year-old, who was emaciated, broke free from being tied up and rushed to a neighbor’s home while covered in duct tape. The young boy asked Hildebrandt’s neighbors to take him to the nearest police station. Franke and Hildebrandt were arrested later that day. I don’t understand why the prosecutor only wants Ruby to do four years. The amount of time she does should be up to her children.
I just can't pass through this. Knowing that these filth got their verdict & punishment, when is Kevin, the father charged? If he insist that he hasn't seen any of his children, yet have contact with his wife, he should still be charge for neglect. Remember, he wanted to get his oldest daughter arrested for accusing her of stealing things in Ruby's house, that to me is a Redflag of just how ridiculous this guy is.

To that neighbor who was comforting that boy, you are a hero. That was probably the first actual love and comfort that boy has felt in his life.
Sickening that they got away with what they've done to him and his siblings, both may be released from prison after only 4 years.

How he was so compassionate but non chalant, like not reacting emotionally until he was on the phone, that was the best thing because if he'd been different he might have scared him off. He just talked to him like a baseball coach. That was amazing.

Exactly. They will get out one day. Those children will carry the trauma and scars for the rest of their lives. They're going to need a lot of therapy.
Don't forget about the children's father...... completely negligent. He shouldn't be left off the hook.
He doesn't ask for "help". He asks for two "favors" and then reduces it to just one "favor". "Favor" instead of "help" shows he's aware he's asking for something without being able to offer anything in return. He's been taught not to expect anything without it being transactional. How very sad. This breaks my heart.

There were multiple people that reported and came forward about it. Exactly one of the reasons she was already on the phone with her lawyer when she answered the door.
EVERYONE was reporting her.

The woman asking if he has any allergies to nuts broke me. With that one scentence she showed more love and care for that boy than his mom ever did.

She was so distressed, you could tell how much she was freaking out. The phone call made me cry and watching her made me cry too. Poor woman to witness this, but I’m glad this boy made it to a house with a couple like this to help him.

The kindly neighbour's voice is so caring and emotional. It made me cry hearing how he described the child's condition to the operator. Bless that man for all he did that day.❤

I wonder if the nice couple have been able to stay in touch with the children, or at least R. I hope they have been able to give the kids lots of hugs so they know that strangers love them and won't hurt them.
The neighbors did everything right. The called 911, sat outside with the child, got down on his level and spoke in a calming tone.

The boy must be very intelligent. At that young age, it's difficult to go against your parents. He experienced these horrors probably all his life, but still realized something was wrong and went for help.

The smell was rotting flesh and when they were taking off the tape his flesh came off with it. These two women are monsters.

I guarantee it was infectious, that creates a big smell sometimes. Especially with no airflow, probably sweating, too no doubt
They also stated they put cayenne pepper / honey on the wounds with the duct tape ... sounds like a form of torture to inflict more pain on the kid =/

His wounds were worse than what the medic explained - the area where the handcuffs were shackled cut into his skin & muscle nearly down to the bone. They were so deep!! It’s so sad! These women are evil! To make things worse, they both felt justified in their actions & thought they did nothing wrong after their arrest & being in jail for awhile. Ruby never once expressed guilt or remorse for her abuse or love for her kids in her journal throughout their abuse. It was all evil torture. 20/20 did an excellent story on this case on Friday & shows how this situation was much worse than we thought.
For this little boy, to go out and trust a stranger after the cruelties done to him by his mother and traitorous behavior of his father is so brave . May he find peace

Big mama bear energy from that lady neighbour. Distracted him during the call when the guy cried, got a banana and told him to take small bites so he didn’t get sick and pacing in justified fury. Appropriate reactions all. Thank goodness SOMEONE was exhibiting normal,caring behaviour so soon after he bravely went for help.
They both treated him with respect and dignity unlike the monsters he was with beforehand. Those neighbors are angels

I hope Ruby doesn’t get away with 4 years. She needs to serve the maximum sentence. I believe that is 30 years in this case
I can't imagine the mothers will let Ruby get out of prison. There's a hierarchy, they're on the bottom.
She got charged with 4 counts of child abuse(I think), a class 2 misdemeanor. The maximum sentence for one count is 15 yrs, and she needs to serve those counts consecutively
If I got the facts right she would have faced 60 years in prison max. She should have at least…it’s a disgrace that she got the minimum sentence and she’ll walk free in 2027

When the neighbor stops himself and says "he's been.... detained" it's obvious he doesn't want the little boy to overhear him talking about what his condition looks like. Just heartbreaking.
i remember hearing that when the 911 call first came out and it just broke my heart. it never hurts any less every time i hear it. those 3 words have stuck with me so much throughout this whole ordeal

Check out the other video they face on this case. Apparently Ruby was told by Jodi that she needs to cut ties with her husband in order to mend their failing marriage. So Ruby “exiled” her husband for a year, cutting all ties with him and forbade him from contacting the children
Anyway, he is guilty because the abuses started very long time ago

Whenever people say something like "u don't know the full story" in a situation like this, it's always BS. There's no "full story" that justifies starving and torturing a child.

My stepmother starved my sister and me. I was eating boxes of cake mix from the basement that were so old they had bugs in it and then hiding the empty boxes behind the paneling on the wall. Years and years later, my dad removed the paneling and casually mentioned finding them. I told him AGAIN why and he didn't bat an eye and never mentioned it again. Like it never happened.
So sad. He was scared to tell the man what was really wrong and kept saying it was "personal business." Poor kid

This pure and true love pouring from his neighbours, is divine affection. Extremely rare to receive this form of comfort and kindness, especially for children. Most likely he felt overflown with love in that moment, as that would have been in my guess, only one of the few times he has ever felt the reassurance and care from an adult figure I am sure. I will continue to pray for the rest of the family, and this beautiful boy. Kindness goes beyond limits, and is directly given back to your soul in many ways of the future. Take this as an example of how you are choosing to change lives in the blink of an eye. Transformation for you both in these situations. It is yours to choose to be the humanitarian and humble human. Bless you all.

When they were checking his legs under the bandages, and saw that the wounds were so infected, and smelled so badly, I can’t even imagine what that boy went through 😭. If it wasn’t for that kind neighbor, who finally answered the door, called the police, and his wife gave R. something to eat & drink he (the boy) & his sister would have died. He was definitely a real hero in that monsters house 😠.
The scariest part is the boy escaped once before and Ruby & Jodi went driving around and found him walking down a road at 2am and took him home… I shudder to think of the abuse he received after that. He must have been so scared knocking on these doors thinking Jodi or Ruby could be coming after him again.

The first house he came to no one answered the door… so glad he went to another house and didn’t let fear make him go back home. The terror he had to be feeling is beyond words.

they also planned to move both..of them to the middle of nowhere to work on a ranch in a day or two from the date he escaped. his timing was the ONLY thing that could possibly be seen as divine intervention in that situation.

This couple is the reminder I need to remember there are truly beautiful souls in this world!! They feel so rare but watching them care for a little boy they don’t even know is just amazing.
The worst part is Jodi and Ruby’s behavior when they were caught. Jodi said if people understood they’d have empathy for her. Ruby shut down and was angry, and annoyed that the officers were detaining her. They both believe they did nothing wrong and only plead guilty to avoid life in prison.

I knew a girl who was an EMT and volunteer firefighter. She said the worst was when children were seriously injured or died. Those calls broke her.

I’m so happy there was a woman home to help him as well. She was so sweet and comforting just what he needed in that moment. The definition of a mother. What an amazing and brave kid. That he had the grit and courage to try and escape again after being caught the first time. And to have the concern and love for his little sister. He’s just a special kid. 😢

The point is that criminals receive better treatment than these kids did, who shouldn't have had comparable experiences to begin with, especisince they didn't do anything to receive that as a punishment. They aren't criminals of any sort, they are children who were abused. They shouldnt be treated as prisoners. Different.

It's just disgusting. I personally know someone that was abused starting at a young age is in her 40s and she's still remembering things and trying to cope.
That little boy is a hero for himself and his sister and those neighbors are Angels ❤ So thankful they answered the door and helped him.

Not only did the paramedic say she was going to cry, but the guy who responded to her said "oh yeah, that's why I've got my shades on".
They need to give her the full sentence, not one to 15 years, give her the full 15 years per charge.

The maximum sentence is 30 years, the minimum 4 years for both of them. The degree of the offenses was quite severe, they‘re going to spend some serious time in prison.
The max they're gonna get is community service. Bcz female not bad. And the victim was a boy too, so it doesn't matter that much, to the law and society.

Same thing is happening in Geneseo illinois....the Milem family adopted 3 kids and have been singling out the youngest to lock in a room all day without food...i called dcfs but they are catholic and go to the same church as the adopted parents and keep finding the abuse unfounded ..even though the teacher and several others have called... They have now pulled the young boy out of school and he's not allowed to go to school anymore... He's home around the clock locked in his room... :(

Both these women knew exactly the evil they were committing to those children. One has an attorney on speed dial and the other is quiet as a mime in a library.
But they will still get better treatment in prison than they gave to those kids. Better treatment as long as they stay in solitary confinement that is. It is well known that prisoners will deal with child abusers in the worst way, just a matter of time before it happens.
Wild that both those women lived in multi-million dollars homes, eating well & lookin healthy, but their kids lived no better than slaves. Those poor kids will need YEARS of therapy after what those two monsters have done to them.

I find it hard to believe dad had no idea. This abuse started way before they separated. The kid said he had to sleep on a bean bag for 18 months. The dad was supposedly only out for a year. He’s not free of guilt. Suing your daughter for a laptop was a bad look as well.

It was in fact very brave of him because he had to actually escape. He wasn't allowed out and would have surely have been severely punished if caught. It must have been hugely stressful for him when he finally had the opportunity. I can't even imagine his stress levels.
