- OH v. GROVES (2020) - DEFENDANTS' SON TESTIFIES: Daniel Groves, Jr., the teen son of Daniel and Jessica Groves, testifies for the prosecution detailing the swelling and bruises he witnessed on his infant brother's head.
Daniel and Jessica Groves are facing life in prison in the death of their two-month-old son, Dylan. They were arrested after Dylan's decomposed body was found at the bottom of a 30-foot well near their home. His body was wrapped in plastic bags and duct tape, then placed in milk crates secured by chains, padlocks and zip ties. Dylan’s cause of death was determined as “homicidal violence.” The child had suffered multiple bone fractures and broken ribs. Methamphetamine and amphetamine were also found in his system.

This guy is testifying against his parents for his brother. What a legend.
What a horrible guy.

He was not “soft spoken”. He was there to clearly defend his brother. They’re full of garbage asking him to repeat himself over and over
I agree ☝️ that had me so mad 😡 the poor kids already going threw enough & she’s speaking low choppy questions 🤦🏻♀️
@Jack Nicholls He’s a 15 year old boy, having to testify against his mom and dad because they murdered his baby brother. There should’ve been stricter rules to prevent trying to rewrite his testimony. It was not appropriate, and it made me feel even worse for the boy.
So, this is actually a court reporters issue most likely. While WE hear everything fine through the microphones, depending on where the court reporter is seated, she may not be able to hear him. It’s very important as a court reporter that we get EVERYTHING said, and unfortunately that can mean asking for folks to speak up. She even mentions she can’t see where he is indicating on the body; that’s because she needs to notate that in the transcript.
@@lornahalbert Thank you for explaining this. It was just hard to hear a young man have to recount something so difficult.
@Jack Nicholls
That must have been an incredibly difficult to do, but I'm very impressed that your younger self did that once, but twice.
Having to testify in court myself, especially when the lawyer for the other side would start his questioning with "Would you agree with me that ...", which, because my own couldn't be bothered to prep me for such leading questions ... but then that was in a case of Constructive unfair dismissal from my last paying job, so not exactly a Criminal Court.
Closest I came was also to testify against my own father, which would have been when I was in my mid-late 20's, some 20 years old. At the time I was glad he pled guilty for the crimes of sexual harassment, abuse, and rape on my younger, severely disabled, sister, and myself, so you can imagine having to recount everything that I experienced and saw. Only years later, was it truly explained that had he pled not guilty, and it went to a full jury trial, my testimony alone would have been enough to have him sentenced to far longer than 9 years, of which he served six, because that is how sentencing goes, here in the UK.
I can only hope, in both cases, justice was done on your behalf ...
Respect to this teen who is being a voice for his baby brother.
The weak hurt the defenseless; the courageous stand up for them.
Bravo. Well said. Thank you for your words for victims.

Poor kid. Can't imagine having to testify against my parents about something that will put them away for life. Good for him, though, for having the strength to do that! He's very well-spoken. I hope the best for him.

There is a reason why there are signs in tubes that say "don't shake the baby" post partum depression can make parents accidentally kill their babies. Just because you have a great time, doesn't mean others have it. I know nothing about this case so my comment isn't about that, but this comment is extremely ignorant. Imagine what he must have gone through before the court date, knowing he was going to be testifying against his parents, realizing there would be no parents or family home to return to. That he could end up in child services. For a 15 year old, that must have been very frightening. What a brave young man.
He got removed from their custody to his Aunt and Uncle says it all. The baby should been taken to them too.
He said he lives with his aunt.
Child abusers are truly the lowest of the low. And for these parents to sit and cry like they’re so upset just makes me sick. People like this are crying for themselves. And I disagree that the Attorney is “warm”, she just sounds trite and fake to me. She’s just straight up trying to box the boy into a corner to help her client. NOT Dylan. A parent that has his son pee for him is just beyond disgusting. There are a lot of degenerates that do that and they need to STOP.
Crying because you are caught and the consequences ahead might be a thing.
Crying because you have put your teen in this situation might be a thing.
Crying because it’s pretty embarrassing that this is all public and your lives are basically over except for incarceration
I've been saying for YEARS that EVERYONE has a basic test to determine if they are emotionally, mentally able to raise a child to a minimum standard of care and responsibility including first aid n safeguarding. Too many abuse/neglect children just to receive DWP benefits. Too many start school unable to use toilet, speak, count, follow simple instructions, basically a feral state. Don't have a child if you're unwilling or unable to educate, love, protect him/her etc.
@@englishmadcow7461 while it sounds like a good idea, it’s mild eugenics. I may not be able to teach my child because of my own learning disability, but that shouldn’t disqualify me from being a parent.
It’s infuriating seeing the mother cry like that 😡
@@stephanycarroll571 I'm dislexic, I have ADHD and a few other mental disorders. However I'm very good with kids. I'm very close with my nieces and my nephew even though they're teenagers now. We're still very close and every time I help them with anything they tell me I'm good at communicating with them. All in all, everyone tells me I'm more than caring and responsible with them or with any child that's left in my care.
But I don't give myself the right to have children. I still have shortcomings. I could get depressed sometimes to an extent that I need to be completely on my own for a while but still I can manage to hold myself together around them. I've never yelled at them even though I can be very impulsive sometimes, due to ADHD and I might lose my patience because of my sensitivity to noises and etc. having children shouldn't be something that everyone deserves even if they're good people. Having children has been romanticized way too much to encourage people to have them. But the reality is that I rarely see parents that aren't constantly frustrated. And we don't even know what happens with others behind closed doors. If I was an official of something I would encourage people to adopt more instead of just conceive a thousand children. I get the joy of being a parent but we're not doing anyone any favours by giving birth to them. Becoming parents is all about us. It's selfish. So I think there should be more strict laws for having babies.

The system is fucked. I say this as a psych in family courts. Children are dismissed and abusive parents are awarded custody. So many have PTSD due to failure to protect. Attorneys are in on the “act” and this is common. Most only care about money. Our court system is not about morals and humanity.
I can't even begin to imagine the courage it must take, at 15yrs old, to not only face the brutal murder of your infant brother and to find out your parents were responsible; but then to go to court, stand up and testify against them. This young man is a credit to the so-called parents who didn't deserve him. The world needs more people like him. Thank you, young man, you were undoubtedly your baby brother's hero and now you are mine and a great many other people's too. I hope that in time you can find peace in knowing that despite the horrific situation you were in and the trauma and grief you were experiencing, you still had the courage, maturity and good heart/moral nature to know exactly what is right and wrong and to seek justice for your baby brother, who's life was cut tragically short.

She's trying to get him to change this story, or see if he will. Smart, but he's obviously telling the truth.
By her method is shitty
It’s crap because it’s just so obvious what she’s doing. Even if he was lying it wouldn’t be to difficult to keep the lie very wrong method hahah
Shes trying to put words in his mouth.
@Nina Delgado it’s their job. They defend them because they may not be the murderer even if it’s most likely it’s still possible they aren’t. So a lawyer states any evidence to provide that may be an indication they didn’t do it.
@Nina Delgado however the jury will be able to decide on the truth
Honestly, his parents *deaf* lawyer, had me wondering it she was trying to frame the 15 year old boy. She definitely was trying to rattle him, to discredit his testimony. Smh.
I hope he didn't actually kill the baby. But I just pray justice was rightfully served
@@val3sha Agreed.
I agree. She knows her clients are guilty. She is low balling the 15 year old.
@@anabel_5155 Exactly.
Unfortunately thats a lawyers job. Even in cases where representing the guilty
That poor boy. I can’t imagine a child of 15 having to testify against his parents. I hope he can get through this trauma and have a good life. 💔
Daniel was articulate & loud & clear -
This 2nd woman interrogating him apparently could neither hear or see him!
Her behaviour is totally unbelievable! 🤥
I hope this kid goes to law school, he speaks so well compared to these lousy ass “attorneys”

It seems like the kid testifying is the smartest one in the room.

He’s been coached
@@p.sherman3158 Too bad the lawyers weren't coached.
That is why we are being culled. Really stupid people in offices lousier than criminals
It's interesting to me how emotional they are when they see him.. before he starts testifying.. Then when he starts to talk the emotions switch off
The way the parents are eyeballing that poor kid is creepy. What a brave soul.
“I’m still having trouble hearing him.”
“Well you can move closer then.” I loved that lol.
Me too. 😂😂 they were probably sick of her saying that 😂😂
I heard everything and iam deaf in one ear and have a faulty speaker on my phone.
If you can’t hear get a damn mic . He’s speaking clearly. Those adults are way out of line .
They need hearing aids, not mics. They are already using mics.

They are when you're in court, even as a child, you're treated as an adult. I was 15 and in court as I was assaulted by a taxi driver, Dec 25th 1998, when I was 14. It was horrible having to repeat certain things and they (the defense) just push and push. He was found not guilty and over 20 years later Christmas is still hard for me. I remember how I was spoke to, with his team telling me "How I'd asked for a kiss" and kept repeating it as if I was suddenly going to agree with them. Yeah, still gets me.

They have the nerve to cry
The parents quickly forgot their crying act once they started listening to his testimony against them. A strong and very brave boy. At his age, no one should have to defend their baby brother against their own parents. He would have left this court a man, not a boy anymore. Shame on those excuses for parents.
Title should be “teen son testifies against parents accused of murdering infant”
Thank you! I re-read this title so many times. I guess it was a successful click bait because I had to click to see what they were trying to articulate. 😫
Yes, very misleading.
Right I thought its the teen who killed the infant jeez
Thank you. I was confused
Im glad its not my broken English that made it confusing 😅 😌
Casually, the parent's "tears" stopped as soon the the boy started recounting. Then they had apprehensive faces, but no grief in sight.
Yes!!!
Exactly
Exactly! They were "sobbing uncontrollably" when he first came onto the stand, like they were trying to guilt-trip him into protecting them. However, as soon as they realised that he was going to tell the truth and not change his story, their faces changed so fast!
If I was on that jury, that would tell me what I needed to know...
Yes, I noticed that too
exactly what i saw. fake tears
Why don't people like this, GIVE UP the baby for adoption as they clearly were unable to raise another baby! Seems like a miracle their son made it to teen years raised by those same people.
She heard him. She is just asking it again to steal and make the 15 year old nervous. He handled it like a champ. As a person who broke the cycle myself it is the hardest journey ever to embark upon. Him having to testify against his parents is definitely a struggle that I cannot comprehend. My heart goes out to him.
The second lady is absolutely ridiculous. Very unprofessional and talks to him like he is incompetent. He is very brave! I am glad he is being the voice for his brother!
How, she needs to be able to hear everything to be written down, and they ask questions over and over to 1 make sure they got everything, 2 to see if they can catch you in a lie. Doesnt matter if they know their client is innocent or guilty, that's their job and sadly they have 2 hey their client who is usually murderers or other criminals off the hook
She was testing him to see if he was lying or saying the truth. They twist and turn questions so you can trip but boy didn't. The boy handled it really well and it isn't the lawyers fault because she is just doing her job.
There is a right way and a wrong way to talk to someone. Regardless of what their job is. If I talked to my patients in a degrading demeanor I’m sure I’d have tons of complaints. Just because she is a lawyer doesn’t make her any different. 🤷🏻♀️
@@kaceefeemster1113 there is a difference between how a doctor has to talk 2 their patients and how lawyers talk for their clients behalf. The lawyer job is to get their client off, so that's what the lawyer is doing
Exactly when it is her that’s incompetent
This was absolutely ridiculous. Who is protecting the boy testifying? Why the hell isn't he judge saying something? This is a perfect example of a child being required to be the only adult in the room. ffs.
I agree with you . ..ridiculous how they questioned this young boy...like they wanted to catch him in a lie....pathetic.
Kids being expected to be the adult is all too common. This young man lost his entire family and it's all just heartbreaking imo
This happened to kids at the border. Their parents were gone and babies as young as 5 years old were forced to testify by THEMSELVES. It's abhorrent.
@@sezzyridge Well you'll be happy to know that the democrats renamed the cages at the border to Youth Detention Centers so you can feel better.....maybe the Trump administration should have left those kids with the adults that brought them? Trump was having them do DNA checks since so many kids are brought here to be sold as sex slaves? 100,000 kids alone at our border, what parent sends their kids? Ones that are paid a lot of money.
@@Alwayscatlike I love that you immediately assumed that person was a democrat & felt the need to defend Trump. I’ll put it simple. Under the Trump administration they separated kids from parents (most likely trafficking/harming those kids as there were already cases of assault & rape in the centers) and under Biden administration they’ve worked to reunite those kids to their parents...and also rename to facilities, & mass deport many. His goal seems to be on making it easier to obtain citizenship, but failing on dealing with those who are still in those “facilities”. America still running concentration camps at the southern boarder.
This boy is a hero he standing there knowing that his parents can see him the pressure he will feel he is under will be huge I hope he’s got some support and love I hope he has a wonderful life god bless him ,,,,, and the mum and dad look like mother and son she has to be more than 20 years older

cps removes a 15 yr old but allows an infant w these monsters.
CPS HAS TO BE ALSO ACCOUNTABLE
My mother lost custody of me and my sister when I was 3 I'm from Australia btw. Years later we hear from someone from child protection she's had 4 more kids and three are in foster care seperated unable to live together. When they were with my mum at times apparently they were without food or a house staying at friends just fucking awful I never had an opinion on my mum because I have a great dad and he never put her down to us but now Its hard not to hate her. The system doesn't work
CPS definitely needs to get their shit together, in just about every State, County, City. It’s sad how many children are let down by CPS.
I knew a then 6yo who was with returned to his mother & his infant sibling when the sibling died of neglect. I met him after he was finally removed permanently.
I dont think they knew about the baby because he says she asked her was she pregnant as if she was even hifing it from him at first
CPS is constantly at fault in much to many cases (or should I say “understaffed” as they like to say) and NEVER held accountable!
How does this wonderful young man live with the horror he witnessed? I'm so concerned for him. He deserves the finest professionals to help him long term.
His parents are crying in an effort to manipulate his testimony... To make him feel guilty for testifying against them. What monsters!
How about calling the deceased child by his name, Dylan, instead of “the baby.” Sickening.
It’s a lawyer tactic to make sure the jury doesn’t lose sight that this was a helpless baby, a child. Sometimes when trials go on for so long even if it’s just a few days, jurors can disassociate from just saying people’s names
@@kenadihunter6621 i just feel like shes a shitty lawyer and has no respect; but in other cases i'm sure that's true
they do the same thing in homicide trials by saying "the body" instead of the personal name .. they also use "the deceased" .. they do this to try to make it "less" of a crime if they can get the victim de-personalized ..
She also called the baby an "it" a couple of times. 🙄
