@Jack Nicholls He’s a 15 year old boy, having to testify against his mom and dad because they murdered his baby brother. There should’ve been stricter rules to prevent trying to rewrite his testimony. It was not appropriate, and it made me feel even worse for the boy.
So, this is actually a court reporters issue most likely. While WE hear everything fine through the microphones, depending on where the court reporter is seated, she may not be able to hear him. It’s very important as a court reporter that we get EVERYTHING said, and unfortunately that can mean asking for folks to speak up. She even mentions she can’t see where he is indicating on the body; that’s because she needs to notate that in the transcript.
@Jack Nicholls That must have been an incredibly difficult to do, but I'm very impressed that your younger self did that once, but twice. Having to testify in court myself, especially when the lawyer for the other side would start his questioning with "Would you agree with me that ...", which, because my own couldn't be bothered to prep me for such leading questions ... but then that was in a case of Constructive unfair dismissal from my last paying job, so not exactly a Criminal Court. Closest I came was also to testify against my own father, which would have been when I was in my mid-late 20's, some 20 years old. At the time I was glad he pled guilty for the crimes of sexual harassment, abuse, and rape on my younger, severely disabled, sister, and myself, so you can imagine having to recount everything that I experienced and saw. Only years later, was it truly explained that had he pled not guilty, and it went to a full jury trial, my testimony alone would have been enough to have him sentenced to far longer than 9 years, of which he served six, because that is how sentencing goes, here in the UK. I can only hope, in both cases, justice was done on your behalf ...
The parents don't cry for their infant son and older son they cry for themselves knowing they will get life in prision or the death penalty. This is one case that deserves the death penalty.
@@laurieh4742, why are you getting so upset? If we can hear him perfectly, shouldn't we assume that they can hear quite adequate since they're standing right in front of him and he is speaking into a microphone?
To be fair, the mother seemed to have real remorse whereas the father just looked as if he was trying to make tears. Doesn’t make her any less guilty tho.

I certainly don't envy defense lawyers. I couldn't imagine trying to set someone free that I know is guilty. And then to belittle someone to further help that cause; I don't know how you can live a normal life.
The recording microphone is picking him up just fine. The courtroom one may not be, but yes, it seems it is a team tactic. Also seems the judge grew tired of The tactic, and so asked him to scoot closer. Young man handled himself very well.
@Nina Delgado it’s their job. They defend them because they may not be the murderer even if it’s most likely it’s still possible they aren’t. So a lawyer states any evidence to provide that may be an indication they didn’t do it.

I was thinking the same thing. Why would they be tried together? I would not want to be sitting next to that man if this was my case! Look at the Mother acting all out of breath and deeply inhaling. What an actress. She looks more like she’s being inconvenienced
The system is fucked. I say this as a psych in family courts. Children are dismissed and abusive parents are awarded custody. So many have PTSD due to failure to protect. Attorneys are in on the “act” and this is common. Most only care about money. Our court system is not about morals and humanity.
Honestly, his parents *deaf* lawyer, had me wondering it she was trying to frame the 15 year old boy. She definitely was trying to rattle him, to discredit his testimony. Smh.
It is a strategy for Defense because they are hoping it will distract the witness and the jury and keep him from telling his story with emotion. It’s disgusting.
The defendants lawyer is horrible, trying to confuse this young man. She cannot even ask a question well, she did not hear what he was saying, constantly asking the same questions differently, trying to confuse him.
Questions you are not allowed to ask a juvenile in open court: did your parents buy or did someone require drug test kit for you to have turned in? At age 15, many have begun ‘experimenting..’, 🤷♀️
The second lady is absolutely ridiculous. Very unprofessional and talks to him like he is incompetent. He is very brave! I am glad he is being the voice for his brother!
How, she needs to be able to hear everything to be written down, and they ask questions over and over to 1 make sure they got everything, 2 to see if they can catch you in a lie. Doesnt matter if they know their client is innocent or guilty, that's their job and sadly they have 2 hey their client who is usually murderers or other criminals off the hook
She was testing him to see if he was lying or saying the truth. They twist and turn questions so you can trip but boy didn't. The boy handled it really well and it isn't the lawyers fault because she is just doing her job.
There is a right way and a wrong way to talk to someone. Regardless of what their job is. If I talked to my patients in a degrading demeanor I’m sure I’d have tons of complaints. Just because she is a lawyer doesn’t make her any different. 🤷🏻♀️
@@kaceefeemster1113 there is a difference between how a doctor has to talk 2 their patients and how lawyers talk for their clients behalf. The lawyer job is to get their client off, so that's what the lawyer is doing

@Goof Ball she can defend her clients without minimizing the injuries of a dead baby ... her calling the bruises “lil” when the child died from those injuries is straight up disrespectful
They are when you're in court, even as a child, you're treated as an adult. I was 15 and in court as I was assaulted by a taxi driver, Dec 25th 1998, when I was 14. It was horrible having to repeat certain things and they (the defense) just push and push. He was found not guilty and over 20 years later Christmas is still hard for me. I remember how I was spoke to, with his team telling me "How I'd asked for a kiss" and kept repeating it as if I was suddenly going to agree with them. Yeah, still gets me.
Exactly! They were "sobbing uncontrollably" when he first came onto the stand, like they were trying to guilt-trip him into protecting them. However, as soon as they realised that he was going to tell the truth and not change his story, their faces changed so fast! If I was on that jury, that would tell me what I needed to know...
She heard him. She is just asking it again to steal and make the 15 year old nervous. He handled it like a champ. As a person who broke the cycle myself it is the hardest journey ever to embark upon. Him having to testify against his parents is definitely a struggle that I cannot comprehend. My heart goes out to him.
This woman acting as if she couldn’t hear him as a painfully obvious attempt to try and catch him in the act hoping he’ll mess up some details in his story is irritating.
She's having him repeat what the baby's injuries were so she can continue to minimize them by calling them "a little bit of swelling (7:33)" and "a little bruise (8:08)".
This was absolutely ridiculous. Who is protecting the boy testifying? Why the hell isn't he judge saying something? This is a perfect example of a child being required to be the only adult in the room. ffs.

I agree ☝️ that had me so mad 😡 the poor kids already going threw enough & she’s speaking low choppy questions 🤦🏻♀️
@@nalylovedoncat Thank you for explaining this. It was just hard to hear a young man have to recount something so difficult.
@Jack Nicholls
That must have been an incredibly difficult to do, but I'm very impressed that your younger self did that once, but twice.
This seems like the most disorganised court room and incompetent lawyers I have ever seen.

@@jimthecactus7425 by doing so they can know much more surely of what was said is truth
It’s a trick they do to see if he’s lying, if he doesn’t remember what he said the first time then he’s probably lying .
I a greed with you on that one
Yup
How about calling the deceased child by his name, Dylan, instead of “the baby.” Sickening.
It’s a lawyer tactic to make sure the jury doesn’t lose sight that this was a helpless baby, a child. Sometimes when trials go on for so long even if it’s just a few days, jurors can disassociate from just saying people’s names
@@kenadihunter6621 i just feel like shes a shitty lawyer and has no respect; but in other cases i'm sure that's true
they do the same thing in homicide trials by saying "the body" instead of the personal name .. they also use "the deceased" .. they do this to try to make it "less" of a crime if they can get the victim de-personalized ..
She also called the baby an "it" a couple of times. 🙄
@@BEAUTYnIQ "it"?
Poor kid. Can't imagine having to testify against my parents about something that will put them away for life. Good for him, though, for having the strength to do that! He's very well-spoken. I hope the best for him.
Should not be hard if you tell the truth and be the one to speak for your brother!!! I would send my parents to prison for my baby sister or brother in a heart beat 🤨!!!!! Period
@@laram00that doesn't mean it's not hard, even if parents are abusive you still form a bond as a young child. He's an amazing young man but it must have hurt 😢
I would do that for any my relative if they abuse children and babies!
I doubt they get life.
@@laram00
You know bat s#!t!
I'm so glad they both got life in prison. Her without parole!!!! Their poor son..poor baby Dylan. God bless both boys.

@ Katie Guzman Ikr as oldest sibling of my siblings if something happened to one of my siblings is in distress or something like this case will be heartbroken. 💔
He sounded very credible. A courageous young man. His answers were to the point, short & articulate.
Yes. He sounded very intelligent and like he loved the baby. 😢
The attorney would have prepared them for that!
Yes, they coach them well before court
😮
@@barbarahegwood2254 yes but you have to be coachable to sound truthfull. He sounds like he is coachable. intelligent and we'll spoken
I’ve served on jury’s. This “I can’t hear you” tactic is a way to unnerve him so he appears nervous and rattled. No respect for half the DAs I’ve seen and met. They don’t care and they treat anyone with no empathy or respect. Idiots
How absolutely disgusting is that! This poor child has already been through hell!! 😡😡
@@kimberlykoester8703 I agree. One jury I sat on was with a 14 year older boy. His mom was in his car with him and the cop pulled them over for going 15 in a 25 zone.(the roads were covered in black ice and we lived in a rural town so no stops lights anywhere) She was known for harassing kids and trying to “catch them” doing something. Anyway, things progressed and she found 1 Vicodin pill, which came from his moms purse when she knocked it over to retrieve her ID. She had a valid RX for it and everything. But the cop charged the boy with possession and wanted to throw the book at him. And the DA was trying to paint this kid as horrible and a drug user. Which he was not. I knew him bc I was also an optician from the only eye clinic in town. The next nearest one was over an hour away. It took us 15 mins to say not guilty. It’s ridiculous and horrible how they do things and especially with this case.
@@Raphsody86 I thought you were not allowed to be a juror if you know the either the accused or accusor (can't remember the actual term used). I live in Australia, so it might be a different.
@@jakesaunders8955 in some cases that’s true. But we lived in a very small town. The end of no where really. And even in bigger areas, they will ask you if you think you could be impartial and judge with an open mind based on the evidence provided. I literally helped most of the juries, cops and judges to pick out their glasses and did testing on them. I knew the kid, but I wasn’t friends with him or anything.
@@Raphsody86 oh okay, that's makes sense. I don't live in a small town so I was completely uneducated on how it changes from place to place and country to country. Thanks for the response.
He was speaking louder than the women asking him questions....the fack? Terrible...just making him go over the details over and over and over. He's in high school and his maturity level is higher than everyone in that room.
In the UK, when a child is being interviewed like this they are assigned an ‘appropriate adult’, who protects their welfare and stops harassment like this. This is a disgraceful abuse of power by these females. If this is the American judicial system, it stinks.
We call those people guardian ad litems...I’m from the USA and I will 💯 agree our system sucks ....the welfare system here and in the UK have a bad habit of letting kids down they often die in foster care.....there have been cases in the last few years here in USA kids have literally DISAPPEARED and they could not tell parents where their kids were at...and a few of these kids were special needs kids....one mother the system had no reason what so ever to take ONE kid out of five and she was a special needs child....her mother was frantic her house clean kids clean fed she worked and all on her own took care of the kids she was responsible for I never heard if they found her child or not....it’s a sad sad world that’s all I know...this world isn’t meant for children anymore
Its corrupt like our government.

How some kids come out ok in spite

It's goes both ways too
@@kim8928 amazing.
It's one of the greatest mysteries on earth.
He probably is not “ok”. I’ll bet that the infant wasn’t the first child of theirs to get abused. Childhood trauma usually has a lifelong effect, but children learn to mask to fit in.
@kim8928 Parents bring children into the world. No child ever chooses to be born. It doesn't go both way.
Why do they keep minimizing the bruising.... “it was a little swollen, a little bit bruised” ... kid said like 5X now THE WHOLE TOP OF HIS HEAD WAS A BRUISE.
It's common for people who have been through trauma to minimize it.
Because that's what they want the jury to picture, a tiny bruise. Makes me sick. I could never defend monsters like those two.
@@PerkyHedgewitchThat's often true, but in this case they are referring to how the defense lawyer is minimizing the injuries in the courtroom. In addition, she really sucks at her job.
They will do what they can to twist and minimize what you say if you find yourself in that situation be very careful with what you say and correct them when they try that shit
Um....a little swelling? Swelling is NOT normal, no matter how much or little! Period.!
So sad this young boy has to be a part of this horrible situation, something he will never forget. And to tell this story to a courtroom.
That 15 year old boy sounds like the only mature person in that courtroom.
I wish this brave young man a happy and healthy, especially mentally, life ❤
After that he will need help

The 15 year old communicates more clearly than the blonde attorney….”a little bruising…” Really, lady. On a tiny baby????
God help this young man...all the people crazy for a baby..and demons like this treating a small defenseless creature like this..😢😢
“His head was tiny, correct?” Does she remember she’s talking about his baby brother? This poor young man must be so hurt, but he is so strong. He is strong for his baby brother. The articulation and the calmness is incredible.
Sounded like she was downplaying... she said "a little bruised" and twice he responded "bruised all over his head "
So true. Bless this man for having this composure and telling his truth
This garbage lawyer tried so hard to make the teen be so much of a child ...
Lawyer :who expalined to you, mommy or daddy?
Teen : my father.
Very brave young man 💯
Kudos for standing firm for your brother, may he RIP

Thank god the son had morals and testified instead of lying for them.
Young chap did an admirable job of being articulate and calm. I'm sure that was a very difficult day for the young lad. At 15 years old, he's still kid.

UK NewsReporter yes
I was just thinking that.
I hope it wasn't. I hope he has strength and wants his parents punished to the fullest extent of the law. He knows that he probably went through just as much. Monsters and DRUGS. All drugs are bad, they are shaitan.
Unfortunately they have more than likely robbed him of whatever childhood be had left, because this traumatic situation is enough to force him to become an adult far too soon 😢.
She says his voice was too soft, but her voice is softer than anyone else’s.
My thoughts exactly
Probably bad acoustics in the court room
@Kd Love: You’re hearing a courtroom audio-video recording made for the record with microphones in various locations and played back here on a RUclips video. The people in the courtroom hear only the live voices, they do not have headphones on and they are not hearing the voices through speakers. This is the reason for the discrepancy.
thats to destract from what he is saying....
Agreed! I’m thinking she needs hearing aids! He wasn’t talking softly! And she’s kind of irritating!
Why can't these "parents " just admit their guilt and stop the torture of their son
Well if they murdered an infant I don't think they have much concern for their other kid's well-being, either.
The parents are shitty, that why they won't admit to anything lol
does it really matter?
Some adults shouldn't get children
Were they innocent or guilty?
Justice for Baby Dylan!
I hope these parents are in prison for life!
"Ur voice is so soft"
It literally isnt soft at all...
THE DATES ARE BLOODY IRRELEVANT.
Correct...her voice was soft
The most unintelligent attorneys I have ever heard. The kid is most definately more intelligent. Unbelievable!
It was probably all they could afford
He was definitely more intelligent and articulate than the dang caseworker that was supposed to protect this baby from his own parents?
Was thinking the exact same thing
Quite literally the lowest of the low they could afford
This is insane. This 15-year-old is obviously 100% honest and knows what he knows, and if he doesn’t, he says so. I feel so so bad for him.
They are crying because they know their teenage son is about to expose the truth, I see two sick dark souls through these "parents" eyes, no light, no empathy, no kindness. May karma reach both of them.
This teen sounds so professional and she's talking to him like he's a little kid. The way he said, "Explain that" when he didn't get her, sounded like an adult.
The way she phrased the question was totally dumb. It made no sense. And the fathers lawyer was just as dumb... its like it's everyone's first time in court and they're all winging it lol
It was annoying that she would be like “was that your daddy or your mommy?” And he was like “my father”.
they're coached by their attorney to use certsin phrases like "explain that"
She was hard to understand
@@snaxbarShe's the parent's defense. Like it's not that difficult to understand how it's her job to dissect a witness statement by e.g. Phrasing her questions in a way that will puzzle the witness.
I’m so glad he testified against his parents and tried to give his brother some justice against his evil parents who are only crying for themselves not for baby dylan
The amount of pressure on this boy's shoulders is tremendous. I'm so proud of him for standing under the weight of it all, remaining strong and doing what's right.
