    I wanted to say a big THANK YOU for this video, while at first i thought your step 1 was silly, I waited for the second part about how the trackpad works and I had no idea the seam was so important. My MBP had a few little splashes of orange juice on the trackpad and I had removed and cleaned it, but it was still ghost clicking and jumping the cursor all over. I took your advice and cleaned the seam and the case thorougly with rubbing alchol and put it back in and now it's working perfectly, 1 million thumbs up to you!

    I agree 100% with Tim... Older MB, trackpad "shot" when I bought it used, but I have upgraded RAM and SSD, etc and this was the 'final fix' to make it a sweet, high speed/performance laptop that is every bit as good as one costing much more $. THANKS a lot. The switch was also out of adj, so it took some "larnin' but after a few times apart and together, it's now workin fine!

    THANK YOU!! This solved my "ghost-clicking" and "ghost-moving" cursor problems. There was a visible amount of mung on the edges of the trackpad, and the problem started soon after I had splashed a few drops of seltzer on the trackpad. I just cleaned the trackpad edges and the case edges with a Q-Tip dipped in 91% isopropyl alcohol.

    Based on the title of your video (about how to fix ALL trackpads), I expected a stupid software fix that only applied to one specific situation. I started watching it (while already mentally composing my comment telling you how stupid and inappropriate your video title is)... but boy was I wrong...! This video is fantastic! It’s very comprehensive and it fully delivers on its promise! Great job - and thank you!

    The trackpad in my macbook pro 13 inch, mid 2012 has suddenly become erratic. The pointer keeps moving around on its own, connecting an external mouse works very well. I discovered that the battery inside had become swollen, is it possible this could have damaged the trackpad?? Do you think is just a cleaning issue?

    Hi, my trackpad works but after having my Macbook checked for a problem it had, I've noticed a different click, like it has been clicked hard and now it goes a bit deeper when I click, it's loosened and makes also a sound. Kinda hard to explain, it would be clearer just by touching it. I hope I gave an idea of the problem. My question is: should I do something like this (with the screwdriver) to regulate it as it was before or I risk to damage it even more? I've never done something like this but it seems quite doable from your video :/

    • @Dee-hi5zj
      @Dee-hi5zj 4 года назад

      You MAY need to adjust the screw above the switch. I had trouble with mine like that too... it takes a tiny torx screwdriver - a small allen wrench sometimes will work as well. you need to take the battery out and leave the trackpad screws secured in place then try turning the adjustment screw one way or the other, with your finger constantly working the trackpad til you get the feel that works best for you. If it gets too tight it won't work andthe same for too loose... it's "happy medium" situation... took me about three times but then I could hear the switch making contact correctly and it works great now... hope this helps... As for damaging it - not likely as it's not very delicate... but the correct screwdriver type and size are important, even so, the adj screw is stainless, I believe and would be hard to strip. Make sure the torx driver tip is nice and FLAT, as some are made cheap and if so you'll need to drag it across a sharpening stone a few times, otherwise the tip can get chewed up easily if it doesn't fit the torx head snug...

    I have a couple of MBPs with so badly expanded batteries that they stopped the trackpad from working completely or cracked it!. On reassembly after taking the battery out, the trackpad response is affected. the pointer moves and clicks but not consistently. Can this damage be fixed?
    (Incidentally I replaced that cracked 15 inch 2011 MBP with a white A1342 trackpad which I had lying around and the results are similar, the pointer moves but not particularly consistently. It seems to click OK)
    By the way, yours is a particularly clear video, with a great explanation and camera work.

    Hello! My trackpad doesn’t work. It’s not the fact it can’t click, it’s the fact that the trackpad doesn’t pick up whenever I move it. The curser moves by itself, I am still a child and cannot get it fixed at a store, nor take apart the mac. Is there away too fix this? Thanks !
    EDIT: I do not have a mouse, either.

    • @GRIBSOFT
      @GRIBSOFT  8 лет назад +3

      I would take it out and clean the edges like in the video. If that's too complicated, you can just turn the computer off, get a toothbrush, soak it in 90%+ alcohols and dig it into the cracks around the trackpad. It might seem like they are tight and there is nowhere for the brush bristles to fit but the alcohol will sip through the cracks and clean the dirt that's not allowing the click. Also the battery might be swollen so the thickness of the battery is preventing the clicking (it's that fragile). You can remove the battery and just see if it the clicking works with the battery out, if so replace the battery.

      I would take it completely out and reseat it. If that does nothing then just replace it. What year and screen size is it and i'll link you the part.
