  • What is RAID 0? and How to Setup RAID on an iMac (OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks).
This video will show you the benefits of setting up a stripped RAID 0 on any iMac 2007-2011 (OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks).
Please note, the optical drive will be removed and replaced with an Optical Bay Storage Adapter.
RAID 0 or Stripped RAID combines data throughput from each SATA Controller channel thus doubling data access rates.
This effectively improves the time it takes for OS X to access system files and display information to the user. To sum it up, a RAID system can double an iMacs performance even if it already has a Solid State Drive. In fact, 2011 iMacs can see transfer rates of up to 1GB per second. That means you can move a 10GB file in 10 seconds.
    You will need:
2 Hard Drives (SSDs are suggested)
    Phillips head and T-6, T-8, T-10 Screwdrivers
Optical Bay Storage Adapter (Also Know as “Data Doubler”)
2.5” Drive to 3.5” Drive Bay Converter
    2 SATA to USB Cables
All of these can be found at most online retailer or at:
