You just saved another mid-2012 MacBook Pro from the landfill -- this worked great! Took me 15 minutes. Trackpad now clicks reliably, and I can finally click and drag again (which it wasn't doing, or would do for a few centimeters, and then it would stop -- so frustrating!) Thank you so much. What a gift.

I tried adjusting the set screw on my white 2010 MacBook's trackpad. I thought that fixed the problem with thumb and thumb+finger click. But it still wasn't working consistently. I finally did this fix (offsetting the little metal clicker as shown here). Now my trackpad is working perfectly. Thanks!

Thank you for presenting this, it's not a repair I would have considered. It took about ten minutes to fix my unresponsive trackpad. Thanks again.

Excellent tutorial- it's a little tricky without the microscope thingy but the button peels off relatively easily with tweezers....Also, I would add, when you put it all back together, don't despair if it doesn't work first click! Mine took a minute or more to bed in and now it's great! Thank you!

Wonderful advice if you have this problem - and not too difficult to fix. I've just repaired the trackpad on a mid 2012 15in MacBook Pro which has had little use but still stopped clicking. The first time I did it, I must have moved the little dot too much because it fixed the clicker but would not click and drag - and felt slightly wrong. I took it apart again and pretty much centred the spot in the middle, re-assembled and hey presto, works perfectly. My advice then is don't worry too much about moving the spot off centre, just clean under the tape and put it back.

Worked like a charm !! Thank you so much !!
I could manage to do it without removing the hard drive (aftermarket SSD).
Also, the flat wire could be disconnected from the board's end, not from the trackpad end.
So you avoid the always delicate unsticking part. Only have to be super gentle when sliding the wire out and back in from under the little "bridge".
Took me 20 minutes over all. Including the time to find where I put my triangular screw driver to remove the battery.
    Thanks once again !

    Thank for the video/tutorial!!
There is one thing that annoying me the most with my mbp mid 2012: except the semi working physical click, i almost can't click&drag or click&selection/highlight... Do you think i'll manage to fix all of these issues with your repair procedure?
    Thx again 😊

First !!! Look at the big screw at the bottom of the trackpad at 11:08 and adjust it with a screwdriver (left or right) for a good click !!! (no need to disassemble everything) If there is no change, then do everything in the video. Thanks for the tutorial.

The cursor on my MacBook Air, is totally erratic. It's the same whether I'm using the touchpad or a mouse. It causes unwanted commands and is a hazzard looking for images .. opening folders a now a folder "Pictures" has dissappeared. I am struggling to find where it has gone.

10:17 That sounds risky mate. To connect the flimsy ribbon cable first when installing the trackpad is basically the 101 course of how to fuck your ribbon cable :)
What you wanna do is to angle the trackpad in such a manner as the man is doing.
Then you want to fully insert it into its position.
Then lay the laptop down on the table while holding the pad in place with your fingers or any tool that will not damage it. i prefer to use the tip of my fingernail under one of the tiny brackets on the opposite side of the adjustment screw for the depth of travel.
Then fasten the screws through the bracket holes while using a flat tip screwdriver bit on the offhand applying ever so gently resistance to your pressure with the screwdriver :)
THEN you fasten the ribbon cable lastly.
This way is the safe way. Best keep it safe and not break the ribbon yeah?
10:45 you can see the ribbon cable twist from the small motion of the trackpad... this is why you connect lastly sir. I hope you have since these 3 years you have improved your routine.
