Mac Book Pro 2012 - Trackpad Not "Clicking" Issue

  • I was having issues with my trackpad not making the "click" sound which drove me nuts. But it was also not working for single clicking unless you pressed it REALLY hard, which was ever more annoying.
    I was able to get by, using the 3 finger touch/swipe to drag things, and few other work arounds for certain apps. But enough was enough, so I bought a new trackpad, and about at the same time my battery needed servicing. So I got a new one via my warranty from EGOWAY, I recommend these guys when buying batteries online. Great customer support.
    Ended up that I only needed a new battery, and to adjust the tension on my current Trackpad.
    Model A1278
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

    to fix mine without even taking a screw out I simply pushed fairly hard
    on the trackpad for a few seconds in the four corners and the middle. It
    pushes the battery back down and my trackpad worked immediately
    afterwards. less of a headache. Thumbs up so everyone can see this
    easier fix.

      Yea except the battery keeps growing, so there is only so many times you can do this. Eventually you won't be able to push it down, as well as you can easily crack and break the pad. Seen this happen before, be careful. Few screws and a battery can prolong your device lifespan.

      Did you press all four corners and the middle for sustained time, or like a few times?

    Thanks for sharing. My track pad quick clicking a while back. So I just quit using it and recently purchased a new battery. It wasn't until you mentioned the battery that I checked my track pad and it's working again. That's exactly what it was, the battery had gone bad and swelled. Happy to have it back.

      Yea, its a silly design. Swell of the battery can ruin the experience of using the Mac. Glad you were able to get yours fixed. :-)

    Hats off to you, bro...I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I was having the same issue with not being able to "click" on anything. With the Trackpad or a mouse.
    3 mins into the video and you solved my problem. When I put the laptop back together, I accidentally tightened the "tensioner" too much. I loosened it and now it works. Saved me money and expensive lesson...Thank you!

    Thanks for the tip / tutorial. My Macbook Pro had the same issue since changing the battery. Should have thought of post it notes, they have been the solution to Macbook problems since it was called the Powerbook ;)
    We used to use them to temporarily fix graphics chip issues on the G3... and Apple thought sticky notes were just for the desktop haha!

    I knew my battery needed replacing for quite a while before I got around to changing it. Replacing it did instantly fix all the problems. I wish I'd watched this first and checked the click of the trackpad before completely installing the battery. There was a LOT of dust in my computer, I wish I'd had some canned air on hand. I'm going to complete the calibration process and then recheck the trackpad w/ and w/o the battery.

      Make sure you don't over turn/tighten the screws holding the mouse down, its glass so it can crack easily under pressure. :-)

  • @stevenshaw3060

    Wish I saw it earlier. My battery caused the same issue. Realized that it was the cause when I was replacing the battery. However, I had been using too much pressure on the pad when it was not working correctly that it caused sensor damage to right side of the pad. So need to replace the trackpad now. But feels like new again.

    Great :)
    I actually did that and I wanted to ask, if somebody notices this :) I don't actually remember how it was... I mean that it clicks now in lower area and in the middle, but on the upper side it still almost does not, very slightly and tightly, so, was it like this before or it was clicking in all areas equally? Am I overthinking that?)

    Mine clicks on the left and right side, but on the left side even though I can hear and feel the click, my macbook won't respond to it. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it? I already replaced my HDD with an SSD and upgraded ram, so I don't mind opening it up.

    • @pr0d1gyvisions74
      @pr0d1gyvisions74  7 лет назад

      Have you checked your mouse settings to see if its enabled to feel the clicks on the left side? Cause I know there's like 3 ways to left click that you can set.

  • @leorosendow9728

    mine is triggering the click when I pass the finger, it may be a defect in the TrackPad or just the Flex cable ??? thanks .

    • @pr0d1gyvisions74
      @pr0d1gyvisions74  4 года назад

      It may be the battery swelling up and pushing against the trackpad. See if there is ample room between bottom of track pad and battery. You may possibly just need to loosen the tension, if it’s too sensitive or tight.

    how much cost track pad

    • @pr0d1gyvisions74
      @pr0d1gyvisions74  7 лет назад

      Can vary between $25-50 depending on where you buy it. I got mine on ebay for around $27. Just search your model number and "track pad".

  • @CoelhoSports
    @CoelhoSports 2 года назад

    It looks like you're using a screw driver to adjust the track pad but the thing you are putting the screw driver on is not a screw. Putting a screwdriver on it and turning it does not rotate the thing you're touching with the screwdriver

    • @pr0d1gyvisions74
      @pr0d1gyvisions74  2 года назад +1

      The track pad has its own torx type screw, which I had the correct screw driver for it, its why I was able to turn it.

    • @pr0d1gyvisions74
      @pr0d1gyvisions74  4 года назад

      You may need to disconnect it, and clean the terminals. But if it's actually freezing it may be some other cause such as heavy load on your CPU.

    • @pr0d1gyvisions74
      @pr0d1gyvisions74  7 лет назад

      Which black cable? The one coming from the actual mouse? You may need to check your wire as it could have become disconnected or it might have been bent and separated the wires.

    • @aruanamic8766
      @aruanamic8766 7 лет назад

      hmm i got a new trackpad and it's still having the clicking problem i honestly don't know what to do

    • @pr0d1gyvisions74
      @pr0d1gyvisions74  7 лет назад

      Does it click when the battery is out? It could be your battery, that was the point of what was wrong with mine.

    • @pr0d1gyvisions74
      @pr0d1gyvisions74  7 лет назад

      Try not screwing in the battery tight, just enough. The body of your mac might be warped.
