This would be a great idea to pair a set of these plates with a table runner you sew with the same fabric and matching patterns like you’d get on a set of precuts. What an awesome table decoration that would be to start with, the add candles, etc.
I've been doing this for years but NEVER thought of putting a monogram on a dish... DUH! Thank you so much for sharing.... 9 years ago! :) It's still so much fun to do these types of gifts.
Love this tutorial because it is so easy, and a fabulous way to showcase the beautiful Christmas fabrics that I collect every year! My son and daughter (ages 8 and 9 the first time we made them) were able to do most of this entire craft themselves, and they were so proud to give to their teachers and bus drivers something they made. Now ages 11 and 12, we have made these every year for the last 3 years!
I made one of these about 15 plus years ago by printing a picture of my son in his Army uniform onto fabric. Then I hodge podged it onto a clear plate. I still have that plate today and it never came apart! I only use it on display and not for food. Probably why it lasted so long. It was a fun project! Thanks for bringing back that memory. ♥️
Several hints for you all. Dollar Tree has clear plates, also you need petroleum jelly (Vaseline) for your Mod Podge around the edges the threads of your MP jar so that it does not glue the lid down (I use it for all my glues and that E6000), also I use wax paper with glues and paints. All of these can be bought at the Dollar Tree. Now we have dishwasher safe Mod Podge, but I see this video was made in 2010, so don't think it was around then. My sewing sheers for fabrics will not come near this type of stuff, I have craft scissors just for this. Loved this idea a lot, so darn cute!
I made these years ago--I also use a very fine sandpaper on the back after the fabric was all dry--then outside or a ventilated area spray the back with polyurethane spray. It makes the plate more washable--still no dishwasher. I also use a cool whip container or margarine tub to help hold the plate. I also used fabrics to match a room and hanger the plates with plate hangers. For example, my Mom had a sunflower in her kitchen and I used sunflower fabric.
What a great idea! The ladies of my church have a "cookie exchange" at Christmas time. I think I will make plates for everyone to take their cookies home on. Thank you for sharing with us.
Wow! 2010?? Looks like I'm 9 yrs later before seeing this. I'm a newbie and really like this. Don't know if you'll see this but I enjoyed watching. Tfs.😀 Judy from Sweet home Alabama 😄
Thank you so much for the tutorial. Members from our Fans of Embroidery Library Group on Facebook have taken to doing embroidery on Canvas and using your tutorial to mod podge it to the plates. So we have shared your link in the hopes of getting more views for you! Thanks again!
I loved this video. I actually had a tee shirt that was too small for me but I loved the saying on it (Made In 1963 Aged to Perfection) so I cut out the saying and followed your directions and OMG it came out AWESOME!!!. You jut created a crafter Thank You!!
That's fantastic! I just had a brilliant brainstorm! Thank you. I' make t shirt quits and pillows, but this is a very cool idea for that special tee from sports to music. Wow. Great idea
Fabulous video to watch, quick and easy and great for the children to help with and great for presents from the children to older family members. Thank you for sharing, you made it simple to follow xxxxxx
Jenny your a great instructor and presenter, your so natural and conversational, yet you stayed on track and never missed a beat, It was so enjoyable watching and learning during your tutorial and the plates are really wonderful and so cute. You gained a new subscriber. Thank you for the tutorial Hope you have a great day Jenny. 0;) B
Since this video came out, Mod Podge has come out with a dishwasher safe version. The instructions for using this product are similar to what is shown here, but curing time is much longer. Also note, the object is only good for the top rack of the dishwasher only.
@@occipitalneuralgia2339 I would think so! I don't have a dishwasher either. I would think it would actually be better and less likely to fall apart if you hand wash
I agree with those who prefer hand washers. I mentioned the top rack of a dishwasher to show how waterproof objects painted with this particular Mod Podge is. If it can take dishwashers, then it is definitely waterproof!,
Loving this SO MUCH!! Im thinking it would super cute to do team colors!! It's getting to be college bowl time, so cute for bowl parties, or of course, favorite NFL teams/Super Bowl parties. You could even do your high school's colors & put your athlete's number on it-- perfect for cheerleader/football player homecoming gifts (anybody else have that tradition?). The possibilities are truly endless!! Thank you!!
I used the gloss and it shows! ALL of the streaks. I am doing Christmas fabrics so it kind of glitters but not my best work! I think the matte might be better suited. And the backs of mine are rough. I thought about backing with a sealant or even packing tape, but I think I will leave as is. I did have a really bad looking one and I just got it wet, peeled off the fabric and re washed the plate. Tossed the fabric. These are gifts for coworkers (loading up with cookies) so I might tell them if they want they can turn them in next year for any other holidays. I will soak the Christmas off and put on fabric for current holiday. But what a cute, easy thoughtful gift! Thanks MSQC!
You make this project look so easy! Have never tried this, but you have inspired me to do so.....Thank You! These plates are really pretty......GREAT idea!!
Very nice plate and fun to watch!!Years ago I made a plate by putting my sons military picture on fabric, and then transferred it to a clear plate just as you are doing. That was over twenty years ago and I still have that plate and it looks as good as the day I made it. FYI, keep your keepsake plate out of direct sun or it will fade.
Excellent! Consider getting clear plates from Goodwill, Salvation Army, or any second-hand store. I get dozens of clear plates from these stores. Usually 50 cents.
I DID IT! It was so much fun. We are having a placesetting challange at 2 of the guilds I belong to Christmas parties. And this was my inspiration. Thanks.
Just made two plates 😀 Several more to go. Like you said, easy, I just have to make sure I get enough on the edges. But an easy fix. Great tutorial, Thanks for Sharing 😊
I have a craft table in my 'living room' ( I live in a very small apartment and have absolutely NO other place for my crafts) and the wall behind it will contain framed fabric (our favorite art form right) and now I can have some of these plates too. Thank you once again Jenny!
Thank you for once again for making a wonderful informative video. Love your ideas, the techniques, patterns. Please continue to come out with more videos.
Thank you for this video. Gladly I look at your videos and have quite a bit over at Patchwork ideas and sewed along. Thanks for all of the instructions. Marita from Germany
I just LOVE, LOVE your videos. It gives me confidence that I can do so many projects. Now if I could just have about 3 months to stay in my house and use all my fabric! LOL Joy
Thank you first for such a down to earth quick video of something I made 10 years ago. Best video of several I watched to refresh my memory. Yours was great. I still have plates and material left over to make more. But after I put my 2nd coat of hodge podge on back I noticed the whilte glue is not dry on inside will it dry to clear now that I've already put the 2nd coat on the back.
used the mod podge on the plates and instead of curtains I cut the material thesize of my basement windows the light shines thru but you cant see thru them easy
Hi Jenny. I am watching ur video and in 3 weeks it will be Halloween. I made a plate with some zombie material on it. I forgot how much fun this project was. thanks for showing it.
this is a GREAT idea!!! you could do this with plates to hang on the wall for decoration!! OHHH...I had another idea for this...you could do holiday plates for all year round for really cheap! You can just go to the dollar store and get the plates and then to the discount section of your local fabric store. It would be great. Thanks
Thanks Jenny. My mother in law made these years ago and I was hoping to make some. Loved the refresher!
Super idea I just love Missouri Star. Thanks to all the staff. You have changed my life.

Right! Like where have I been the last past 9 years.🤦♀️😂
Judy Lake I’m just seeing this for the first time too! She’s using a glass plate. I wonder if it would work with plastic plates.

Gail Jernigan I don’t have a dish washing machine, but I assume I can hand wash the dishes if I use the dishwasher safe mod podge?
