For a man who already was going to leave behind a massive legacy, making this channel as a resource for game devs to have for years to come is one of the most selfless acts I can imagine. Thank you Sakurai!
Especially with that ¥90Mil loss (not including his own time)💀 Man... he should've gotten some monetary compensation... But I guess it wouldn't feel right to him, which I also get. Tho hopefully he can *FINALLY* sleep (more than 6hrs) after this.
One of the most tragic things about Iwata is that his death was so sudden that he didn't leave any memoirs or something like that. I feel that might be the reason Sakurai did this in the first place. I know he's been fighting cancer for years but the fact that he didn't leave anything like this behind makes me think he REALLY thought he was going to make it 😢
The entire project is honestly kinda surreal. A professionally made, self-financed archive of incredibly high value advice on various topics, by an absolute juggernaut in the industry. And it’s completely non-profit, as there’s zero ads, or sponsors involved. Thank you Sakurai!
To think that Sakurai used his very rare time-off to plan out two and a half years of content for a new RUclips channel, wrote 300,000 Japanese Characters worth of scripts, recorded all the commentary in one go, and then recorded all the game footage he would need to... Not to mention, all the upkeep work he had to do as the channel actually started: 6-8 rounds of reviews and 3 months of production on each video, rerecording footage and redoing voice-over when necessary, all while being very busy each day as a Game Director, running on 6 hours of sleep every day... The fact that he put in 90 Million Yen (More than 600 Thousand USD) into the project, all without any compensation because this channel isn't monetized at all, all because he wants to make the gaming industry a better place, and for people to have this channel as a resource... It makes me appreciate these videos so so so much more. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the wisdom and insight you've imparted on us. This channel will go on to become one of the most important parts of gaming history, I'm sure. Big shoutouts to HIKE and 8-4 as well for their work in this channel, we wouldn't have had all these amazing videos without you all! THANK YOU BASED SAKURAI!!!
I regret that i didn't watch some of his content that didn't clicked my interest, but I would watch it later on if encountering the topic of a problem he already did
Sakurai is super human and to spend over $600,000 on this is unbelievable. I don't know any other famous creators of any other medium that have so selflessly spent that much time and income to give away freely all their best advice for whatever profession they come from. What a role model.
He also touched in this in the video, but the value of the yen was weak during the time of this video, which means the cost of living in Japan was comparably low. That means that while it may have costed 600,000 USD, it probably felt more like a million considering what that money could buy in Japan.
As if the crazy expense wasn't enough, he dedicated so much effort and time... Just because games matter. Absolutely goated. These Nintendo All-Stars are a different breed.
I am a Japanese living in the U.S., and I can assure you that it would cost over a million dollars if he had done this in the U.S. Prices and labor costs are twice as much here in the U.S.
Yes, especially there are just massive Wealth of Knowledge lost because a lot of legendary key people die without passing their knowledge to the next generation, or they're just fading into the background, fired and replaced by the less ambitious person. we saw this again and again, Modern games can't beat the Masterpiece from 2008-2015, it's just a massive downgrade, they cut the features down to the point that nothing is exciting anymore. because Great people behind it are no longer there, the companies treat them like a replaceable burden, and the new guy just do the bare minimum to not get fired i think this series is the thing that cement Mr Sakurai into becoming the true legendary in the gaming industry
The fact that Mr. Sakurai completed 260 videos in such a little timeframe, spent so much money to make it happen and doesn't earn anything from it... if this isn't the best gift we could have ever gotten, then I don't know what is. Thank you so much again from the bottom of our heart, Mr. Sakurai!
Even if this channel doesn't immediately produce tangible results within the industry, the fact that it will always be here as a resource for devs and players alike is invaluable. It will no doubt continue to inspire and inform gamers for generations to come. Thank you, Sakurai-san.
Couldn't have said it better! We really can't truly appreciate how influential this content will be! Even if Sakurai's wisdom only brings about a few "eurekas" for some of the developers who watch, that's still potentially invaluable for their games!
I can say at the very least as a game developer, I have been massively helped by this channel's existence, and I've seen other people within the game development industry cite these videos when discussion various topics. So I'm confident this will make a very tangible effect in the indie scene VERY soon
Mr. Sakurai, Thank you so much for this video series. I am currently a student of Computer Science and the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Furthermore, I am seeking a second degree in Art History. Your channel has been an absolute treat to watch, and has had a tangible impact on my work ethic and success as a student. Your work with this channel will certainly have a great impact on the academic discussion surrounding video games. You provided excellent and professional knowledge about video game concepts and theory. This channel is revolutionary for furthering the discussion around games at an academic level and will become an invaluable citation. I cannot understate how impactful your series has been on my outlook of the future. I mean this from the bottom of my heart, 本当にありがとうございました🙇
Given I've seen comments of professors using this series for their classes, I expect you'll be seeing this channel used for a long time. Such a prolific designer with few at the same level as you. The video on Iwata is going to be my favorite though. He really did seem like someone who truly loved games. It was nice to hear more about him and his legacy. Even something more personal like you showed.
I've never seen a big name videogame director or developer pass down their knowledge like Sakurai. My appreciation for this channel's existence is unmeasurable.
The end of an era. I believe I speak for everyone when I say that the appreciation for this channel goes beyond words. Thank you for everything, you’re a legend Mr. Sakurai!
Indeed, well said! Mr. Sakurai, I would also like to thank you for creating this channel! I am certain this will prove useful to a lot of people out there! We will never forget this!
Busy man had by some miracle a five month-wide open schedule and said "I'm gonna make *_260 short videos_* about my game-making experiences while I wait". Absolute legend. Good to know we can still expect more out of Mr Sakurai in the future though; he may be a man that doesn't like to stand still, but he *_always_* makes his newest crazy adventure worth waiting for.
Easily one of the best examples on how to execute a concept for a RUclips channel ever made. The man just devoted his time and effort to the task - did what he set out to do - and is now moving on. Perfection. Good luck in all future endeavors, Mr. Sakurai.
@@enemystand2981 Yes, but this type of project to share one’s industry experience is exactly what we should hope from from professionals in every field. This channel was a public service for the games industry!
I don't normally leave RUclips comments at all, but I had to say thank you, Mr. Sakurai. I work in development at a AAA studio and your channel has given me plenty of insight and, as you said, a little boost to my knowledge on so many different topics. Your work on this channel will inspire and teach and level up the current and next generation of game developers for years to come. Thank you.
As a professional AAA game developer - thank you for sharing this. Your games inspired me to be a developer in the first place, and now these videos will help inspire the next generation. Much love Sakurai san!
I'm a game designer, and I have learned a lot from this channel. Thank you for your insights, and thank you for investing both your time and money into sharing your knowledge!
I feel like most of AAA publishers would give that amount of money to a CEO as a bonus for starring in such a video and yet Sakurai just pulled it out of his pocket for fun. And he doesn't even turn on ads.
Thank you. I always thought Mr Sakurai somehow managed to get some volunteers for this video. But learning how he spend his own money, it make me appreciate these videos better. Thank you sir. I like the video when I rewatch them in future.
I said it before I'll say it again: This whole channel is extremely interesting and informative, and I'm so glad it exists!! Being able to hear the behind the scenes on game dev directly handcrafted from someone so knowledgeable in the field, and for FREE, is a massive privilege!!! Thank you Mr. Sakurai!! 💕💕
Thanks you so much for creating this channel. I can’t believe so much effort and cost went into to it! It’s truly remarkable. As a gamer myself, I’ve followed the channel from the start and watch every single episode with joy. And I learnt so much little things about game design details and workflow and creation process. I probably won’t make any games, but the lessons in work ethic and creation process is so helpful in my daily life. Thank you Sakurai san!
25:03 Massive Shoutouts to 8-4 for their amazing translations! I think all of the news articles that have come out about your various episodes should show just how many people they've reached around the world!
The channel is incredibly helpful! I am always sending links to fellow gamedevs. The videos are so bite-sized and focused that they are easy to watch and learn from, so the knowledge spreads easily.
90 million yen for this. Sakurai will go down in history not only as an influential, legendarily talented game creator, but also as one of the most selfless teachers, freely offering his knowledge to the masses out of a genuine passion for improving the industry itself. Thank you Mr. Sakurai!
I think ultimately this channel will be an amazing resource for many types of people looking for insight and inspiration. thank you for making a lasting impact on all of us!
I already miss this channel. I didn't manage to have time to watch as many as I wanted, but I watched as many as I could and always learned a lot from them. The Kirby "bye-bye" was perfect. No notes. A nice ending to the series. GLHF to Sakura and anyone else who reads this.
Gotta say, this channel launched at a precarious moment in my life. I just started an extremely frustrating and exhausting low-level job, but you giving the advice that work is still work at the right time gave me the resolve to push onward with it with dignity and discipline, and the dignity and discipline to end it on good terms when it wasn't getting any better. Even more, this channel unlocked a potential in me I didn't know I had before! Management positions used to scare me, they felt overwhelming, I thought I'd be happy just turning over others' work and leave looking over everything to others. But as Sakurai was showing in small chunks every category of game and project development I thought "hey, this is actually overseeable. I can do this! I already have been doing a lot of this!" This led me to rethink where I want to be in life, and I am reaiming accordingly to a position where I can be even more hands-on, in an environment where everyone wants to go above and beyond to change the world for the better, and will be appreciated for it. Here's to hoping I will find such paying work in due time. Meanwhile I was in several smaller projects. They didn't fully take off yet but my teammates fully appreciated my workload and my vim, with them willing to work with me again. Your channel at the very least gives the net value of forming meaningful connections! I've been on RUclips since the beginning, since its rise as a legitimate video platform, since the rise of RUclips Poop, through the great copyright takedowns, through the peak of RUclips animators and them moving onto other things, up to the rise of vtubers and even more. Even then I have to say, RUclips reached its true peak with this channel! I hope you were irritated about requests for Smash Bros. rather than joke and meme comments. I'm sure the latter mean no harm, as with things such as RUclips Poop and meme videos there on-topic comments are the exact opposite of what the uploaders want. One of _the_ star game designers, perhaps the closest to being gaming's St Peter of holding the keys to the gate of the ultimate gaming crossover, and as such someone who should know best how video games work to the core, decided to make his knowledge public and widespread -- all on his own time, stamina and money, even if he had to sell some stuff away in the process. This isn't even the first time someone like that did it; the Hideo Kojima podcast is a little older than Sakurai's channel, also Ratchet as well as Conker had creator-driven Let's Plays. But the breadth and cadence of Sakurai's channel is something else. It's even got to the point that when other game creators open their RUclips they make a disclaimer their content _won't_ be educational. "Learn from the best" indeed! Still, how do you keep up with 10-hour work days, RUclips on the aside and six hours of sleep? I know it's scientifially proven that people need less sleep with age and theoretically only 6 hours per day are needed, but I still wouldn't be able to survive on just that. But I guess that only shows learning from the best isn't just emulating their schedule and worldview as-is, but having the pragmatism to be the best you can and realizing their lessons where it's applicable to you. "Learn from the best" doesn't mean sacrificing your sleep, forcing yourself to do overtime if you're more efficient when putting off some work for the next day or futilely imagining that you too may one day be at the top with two houses, it means being the best you can wherever you are right now. Even if you might not end up where you wanted to be, you'll still have the peace of mind that you gave it your all. Big shout-out to HIKE for putting the videos together and recording additional footage. Everyone remember to respect and pay your editors! Shout-out to 8-4 as well for bringing the videos over into English, even the more niche ones like the Arino crossover. This is why I hope the finished projects of us viewers here can credit this channel as Special Thanks, or at the very least as Special Inspiration! It hasn't been said often enough, so once again from the bottom of my heart, #ThankYouSakurai Also, who's gonna tell him you should have at least 2 cats so they don't feel lonely when you aren't around?
I want to thank you for making this youtube channel, and for making the effort and investment to share it on english. It has been really useful not only for game development, but for inspiration as well. Even just with this video, watching how you organized this channel and how hectic your daily schedule is, has motivated me to work more effectively, to be more methodical in planning projects, and to work hard. Thank you Mr. Sakurai!
my husband is a producer at one of the Big 3 companies, and this has been a joy for us to go through from his lense as a game dev and my lense as a fan of all of Sakurai's games. it's a bittersweet day, but so glad to have been here start to finish!
Thank you 🙏 I watched all of your videos. I was excited when I saw my favorite games (Dark Souls & Fire Emblem). I teared up listening to your reflections on Mr. Iwata. The realization that sharing a creative idea with someone too early can deflate your motivation in the internal pressure video was novel and eye opening. Mostly, I enjoyed hearing your voice and getting to know you a little. It’s never a silly pursuit when you put something so wonderful like this channel into the world for people to learn from and enjoy.
Thank you for the 2 years of videos Sakurai! All previous episodes were made 2.5 years ago? Wow, that's actually very surprising to hear. The whole production cost around $630,000 USD? Oh dang
This was such a fascinating look at the behind-the scenes production and release of the videos over the years. Thanks so much for all of your hard work, Sakurai-san! I'm looking forward to going back and watching some of the episodes that I may have missed and revisiting some of my favorites. Best of luck with the continued work on your next project; I can't wait to see what you've come up with! ❤
This was amazing. Thank you so much for passing your legacy down to us! The planning for this is such an inspiration that I myself am dumbfounded. I'm just glad I was here to witness this and learn from it!
Thank you for doing this, Mr. Sakurai. I went to college for game design and ended up never breaking into the industry. I learned more from you than in my entire four years chasing that degree. From the bottom of my heart, thank you and I hope someday I can make something that will make you proud
I know you'll never read this Mr. Sakurai, but to say you've changed my life is an understatement. Melee literally gave me friends and a community, and when I got older and became a game developer, I can largely equate it to my love of games in general. Thank you for taking on the burden of creating this gold mine, and I truly appreciate everything you've done - You deserve a comfy retirement and have made a huge impact on the world. I hope you, and your team are proud of what you all have accomplish and I wish you the best at whatever you hope to do in the future - Go get that vacation buddy, you earned it :)
Thank you so much for sharing your ideas in such a relatable way. It makes Sakurai feel more like a friend than just a producer working for a big company. As someone who also works in the gaming industry, I truly appreciate these videos and hope that more team members understand the importance of the teamwork series, so we can focus more on delivering the best possible experience to players. Best of luck with the new game development!
Infinite thanks for sharing this space with all of us, I really think this will keep on helping people in the future. It's been a joy and an amazing ride. Thank you Mr. Sakurai!
Man's making me cry with this. What a beautiful human being. What a great channel. The hard work, the generosity, the pleasantness of personality, and the absolute gold of the actual content itself...it's immeasurable. Thanks for the inspiration, Sakurai-san!
Thank you for making such a comprehensive and transparent break down of what went into making this series, it was super interesting! In general, an enormous thank you to you and rest the team for making this series! It will always be an incredible resource!
The impact of these videos goes beyond the video-game industry. This is an example of how a laborious, dedicated, persevered effort leads to great things. Sakurai-san is a testament to what can be achieved when you put your heart into something, that no matter what you work on you should give your maximum. To me, the most telling example of this is his game "Sodatete! Kouchuu Ouja Mushiking". A game that surely has its audience, but far less ambitious in reach than his other games. Despite this, Sakurai-san created a game that is a masterclass in terms of game essence, identifying the strengths in such a limited hardware scope. Thank you Sakurai-san for your lessons!
Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you Sakurai for all of the knowledge. You have been used in everywhere from an indie devs office room, to university lectures. A little boost is all we needed and you gave us more than enough
This channel has been the greatest. Mr. Sakurai, your videos helped me have the courage to use the little free time I have to learn to code so I can make video games. I’m working independently right now, but I hope to join a team one day and make fun and even life-changing games with them. Thank you for bringing something new and powerful to my life!
It's refreshing to see a leader in a field still find the time and energy to put themselves in the work flow they may ask of others. It always helps give context for challenges and oversight behind the project and plan execution. Thank you Sakurai for your dedication to this series. It helps people find better ways to communicate with leadership.
Thank you Sakurai-san and everyone else involved for creating these videos. I, for one, found them very interesting and paid the utmost attention to every video, and enjoyed and understood the theme and intention of every one. I appreciate your effort in sharing your insights and experiences as a famous creator of great games with us gamers, gaming fans, and people involved and/or interested in the game industry to make our beloved passion even better. The videos were enjoyable and very insightful, and helped me further deepen my knowledge about game theory and game development. Even if not everything might have been able to be conveyed/translated perfectly, and even if I might have not agreed completely with every subjective opinion; by far the vast majority was conveyed/translated very well and was extremely informative, factually true, and helpful. Rest assured your videos and their insights reached many of us overseas as well and will continue to do so. I'm sure they will contribute to a brighter even better and more fun future for games. All of these videos from you have been a truly special occasion and I'm glad to have experienced it and (if anything) helped make it worthwhile too by subscribing, watching, and clicking on the like button on every video. Games are my passion too, I have other hobbies but games by far are the main one and also feel they are, or have the potential to be, the ultimate form of entertainment. Like the late Iwata-san said, above all, in my heart I'm a gamer. I don't know if you or any of your staff will ever read this but I will leave it here anyway, because I know for a fact I'm not the only one who feels like this and want to express my appreciation for your work and your passion for games and desire to make them better personally; as a gaming fan, someone interested in the video game industry with a related degree, and fellow gamer above all. Thank you for everything you have done Sakurai-san.
3 years of planning and daily editing/reviews on top of his day job, 90 mil yen and no ROI, all for the sake of inspiring not only game devs for making future games more fun and a tiny bit better, but also work and life advises. I am crying at how noble and humble this legendary man is. Sharing his boundless wisdom and knowledge to everyone for free. Thank you Sakurai-san!
All this, while doing a day job. Consistently being both insightful and transparent, only from a wish to help future game developers. That's truly amazing.
One of the veterans of Nintendo created his own channel about his experience on how video games were developed, now he's leaving a nice send-off that gives MatPat's retirement a run of his money. This goes to show how much of a good teacher Masahiro Sakurai actually is. I'm gonna miss this channel.
MatPat isn't even fully retired he's just running the channel in a different position. He would never write scripts in 1 month, in fact, he never did much beyond recording the voice.
Two things: 1) I was born and raised in England and don't understand Japanese, so when you said about how some people could interpret your speech as emotionless, I found that funny, as based on my upbringing and culture, you seem quite expressive to me. 2) Thank you for this amazing channel. I'm not a Game Dev but I am a lifelong gamer and the insight and behind the scenes knowledge I now have is fantastic. I deeply appreciate the immense effort you have put into this channel because it is incredible! I definitely will keep recommending it to people and be talking about it for years. Thank you for this brilliant resource 😊
Thank you for creating this RUclips channel, I was able to learn so much about the man behind my favorite game franchise. You and Iwata-san have done alot for gaming; more than we'll ever be able to show gratitude for. Whatever this new Project is we can't wait to see it! Thank you again, for everything.
I'm not old enough to work on any big project of the sort, but definitely at the age when i start planning what do do in the future. My dream is to bring the games ive only ever dreamt of to life as a game developer. Watching your videos has given me a deeper understanding of what lies ahead for me if i pursue that dream, even if i havent watched them all. I promise that, whenever I'm finally able to carry out my dreams, I'll look back on this channel, able to proudly say that ive learned from Masahiro Sakurai. Thank you for everything you've taught us, Sakurai-san!
Dont wait until youre old enough to make games, thats what everyone is doing. Get started now and have many good creative experiences under your belt before your peers do
It's incredible the amount of work and dedication that you put into this project it definitely shows, production values were trough the roof, thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion about video games
Thank you Sakurai for imparting your knowledge, online, for free, in such a concise and beneficial way. This channel has enough content to help people learn to make games for years to come. You've definitely helped us!
I'm not a game developer, but I've watched almost every video released on this channel. Even if I won't be able to use most of the information practically, it's made me appreciate so much more the effort, planning, and artistry that goes into making games. I'm certain that this channel will be cherished for a long time to come, and I'm sure it will help both experienced developers who've been in the industry for years and also new developers who haven't released a game yet.
It's hard to really grasp how much effort Sakurai has put into this project. Thank you so much! This really has been a unique look at how games are made from the perspective of Mt Everest. Your hard work and dedication is right there for everyone to see. There is no doubt that your mission of spreading knowledge is an absolute success.
As someone who has a small youtube channel, I always looked towards sakurai-san and his videos. It teaches alot about ethics and I want to use it to the best of my understanding and ability. Thank you sakurai-san.
Here's to everyone's future projects, let's make our games more fun with what he taught us. Thank you Mr. Sakurai for all the valuable lessons and your insight.
Thank you for your hard work and this channel! I can say that these videos have already helped increase my enjoyment of games, and provided much insight into the creation of them.
Thank you for everything, Mr. Sakurai. I watched every video. Every video was filled with love and wholesomeness. Thank you to HIKE and 8-4 for their help, and all the contributions. I will always look back to these videos for reference in game dev and general work philosophy. I've already taken some tips in organizing my things and pretending that there's a bomb in my room that will explode if I don't finish my work in time. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you.
I’m absolutely gonna go back and watch the whole series at some point! The production value is amazing and I’ve enjoyed the episodes I’ve watched thus far.
Thank you for your massive contribution, this channel will be really helpful to a lot of us. I aspire to be a game developer one day, so having an big archive of experiences and comments of a game developer with experience in the industry is really useful! So I'm really thankful you took the time and effort of making this for us
I had no idea Sakurai's schedule was this grueling. Thank you and everyone involved so much for making such an easily digestible yet comprehensive resource for all current and aspiring game devs. Your work will continue to remain valuable way past the upload of this finale.
I don't have any plans to get into game dev at any level, but as a lifelong gamer with a handful of game concepts in mind, there's a lot to love about this channel! If I do find myself working on a game, I will certainly refer to this channel when necessary. I've really enjoyed watching these videos every week! They've definitely reshaped my understanding of game design philosophy and increased my appreciation for the complexity of game dev. Thanks so much, Mr. Sakurai!
Your devotion to the dissemination of your own expertise--this is valuable. You are amazing. You went above and beyond in your adventure to share knowledge and wisdom. Thank you from USA!
Sakurai started a channel to share knowledge about the videogame industry and ended up teaching us about leadership, planning, professional presentations and work ethic applicable to any industry Thank you X260
Thanks Mr. Sakurai for your altruistic investment and your hard work. I'm not a game dev, but I watched all episodes since day one and always found them interesting and entertaining. Please, take care of yourself.
Thank you Sakurai! The work you put into this channel is greatly appreciated. I am not a game developer nor interested in becoming one but this channel was very interesting and it was nice to hear you talking about different things. Hope you eventually end up posting other things to this channel.
I haven't watched every video, but I want to go back through each one to experience what your experiences were like and to understand your perspective on game design. Thank you for all your hard work over the years in your multiple ventures.
Thank you Sakurai for this gift. You have truly put so much time, effort, and money behind elevating this field. Gamers and developers worldwide are lucky to have your resources given to us with needing nothing in return. I feel like I learned a lot. Hike really elevated this channel in terms of quality and clarity of understanding. And 8-4 did wonderfully with the translations.
Thank you, Mr. Sakurai. Your work here and your generosity is appreciated. I homeschool my son who is interesting in developing games and use your videos as materials to help him learn the things that he needs to be thinking about in your field. He uses Roblox primarily as a template to run wild and ends up with professional looking results that truly blow my mind for such a young man. Your efforts are definitely not wasted by doing this. I hope that this offers you some level of satisfaction by knowing this.
Learning this was a selfless endeavor from an industry legend just trying to leave his knowledge behind makes this channel mean so much more. I think it was well worth it Mr. Sakurai. Thank you for your hard work and teaching us all something. Design schools should use this channel as a resource to raise a new generation of game, ui and graphic designers.
Whether it is a retirement video, a new game, switch 2, or even him simply retiring his RUclips channel, i will remember and respect this dude until the day that i die
For a man who already was going to leave behind a massive legacy, making this channel as a resource for game devs to have for years to come is one of the most selfless acts I can imagine.
Thank you Sakurai!
One of the greatest minds and hearts in game development for sure!
Yo Daryl brother, brainstorm a video tangential to this. How? Idk, you will find a way, like always
Especially with that ¥90Mil loss (not including his own time)💀
Man... he should've gotten some monetary compensation...
But I guess it wouldn't feel right to him, which I also get.
Tho hopefully he can *FINALLY* sleep (more than 6hrs) after this.
Amen.
One of the most tragic things about Iwata is that his death was so sudden that he didn't leave any memoirs or something like that. I feel that might be the reason Sakurai did this in the first place.
I know he's been fighting cancer for years but the fact that he didn't leave anything like this behind makes me think he REALLY thought he was going to make it 😢
HE WROTE THE SCRIPTS OF THIS CHANNEL IN A FULL MONTH?!
Oh my…
Crazy
Dude is a legend.
Proof that he's a pro, there's nothing to think about, he just knows what to relay to us
Sakurai passed NaNoWriMo... three times beyond the expected assignment.
Two steps ahead
The entire project is honestly kinda surreal. A professionally made, self-financed archive of incredibly high value advice on various topics, by an absolute juggernaut in the industry.
And it’s completely non-profit, as there’s zero ads, or sponsors involved.
Thank you Sakurai!
すごいよね
Some Japanese dude wrote a comment on this on Twitter, says "Like a star, he delivered a light from the past to present us."
109
Yooo thats sick!
Bars 🗣🔥🎙🌠
That symbolism could not have been any better.
Ghey
Eternal vacation time for this man, stat. Make it a 10 year paid vacation too.
based sakurai
I regret that i didn't watch some of his content that didn't clicked my interest, but I would watch it later on if encountering the topic of a problem he already did
My very thoughts exactly.
He is just an absolute LEGEND of the gaming industry and we don’t deserve him but we’re lucky we have him!!!
桜井さん、いろいろとありがとうございました。英語は私の母国語ですが、このようにお礼を申し上げるのが適切だと思いました。今後のプロジェクトがうまくいくことを祈っています。
That's awesome dude! How long have you been learning Japanese?
やるやん
Sakurai is super human and to spend over $600,000 on this is unbelievable. I don't know any other famous creators of any other medium that have so selflessly spent that much time and income to give away freely all their best advice for whatever profession they come from. What a role model.
Perhaps Iwata's saintful character has passed on to him..
@@nexusblade8650spooky
I’ll miss this channel
Maybe there will be something else after this.

I'm struggling at the moment to think of any professional that would be willing to share all of this, FOR FREE. Thank you, Mr. Sakurai.
Even more than for free: at (a massive) cost.
Yes, especially there are just massive Wealth of Knowledge lost because
a lot of legendary key people die without passing their knowledge to the next generation,
or they're just fading into the background, fired and replaced by the less ambitious person.
we saw this again and again, Modern games can't beat the Masterpiece from 2008-2015,
it's just a massive downgrade, they cut the features down to the point that nothing is exciting anymore.
because Great people behind it are no longer there, the companies treat them like a replaceable burden,
and the new guy just do the bare minimum to not get fired
i think this series is the thing that cement Mr Sakurai into becoming the true legendary in the gaming industry
There are none except Sakurai; there's your answer.
I'm not even sure why he chose not to monetize his videos
@@buciallstar They would be an annoying reference if they had ad's play every video.
The fact that Mr. Sakurai completed 260 videos in such a little timeframe, spent so much money to make it happen and doesn't earn anything from it... if this isn't the best gift we could have ever gotten, then I don't know what is. Thank you so much again from the bottom of our heart, Mr. Sakurai!
I think that he made feature of amazing games and amazing game creatures.

Mr. Sakurai,
Thank you so much for this video series. I mean this from the bottom of my heart,

What insane work ethic and efficiency. An absolute legend...
Japanese people work HARD, but he's a work horse!! 0.o
The fact he released Melee in a year and a half on new hardware and it ran THAT good with tons of content, none of this surprised me.
The fact he made all of these videos in such a short time is jaw dropping. Your kindess and dedication will never be forgotten.
Sakurai.

It hasn't been said often enough, so once again from the bottom of my heart, #ThankYouSakurai

Thank you Sakurai-san and everyone else involved for creating these videos.
Thank you for all your hard work over the years in your multiple ventures.
The time, money, and effort spent on these videos are huge but very well worth it.
Any word can't describe anything about this but thanks you and long live sensei❤
Finishing so many videos in such short time is incredible, I'm amazed! Thank you for sharing your insights with us Mr. Sakurai!
THANK YOU Sakurai-san, I learned a lot of stuffs which hoping to apply in future game development/animation.
Your channel is very inspiring and not just for game design but for creation in general, thank you Mr Sakurai !
Whether it is a retirement video, a new game, switch 2, or even him simply retiring his RUclips channel, i will remember and respect this dude until the day that i die
I have some huge doubt it is about making a new game. I hope isn't another Smash Bros.
@@MidoseitoAkagelast time sakurai got to pitch an idea, it was kid icarus, so probably no smash
