Think Media
How about a video on methods for taking live calls during a livestream podcast?
18 year and running show, podcast since 2007 www.deepershades.net/podcast . Video on my channel (doing things a bit different)
I am launching a podcast in February. The Treasure Coast podcast. A community show about the Treasure Coast in Florida.
Think Media - Need an assist or a video about this would be pretty great!! I picked up the Shire SM7B and Cloudlifter 1 for my RUclips channel recording. The mic sounds great - the issue we are running into is that the audio recorded will not play or transmit over Apple AirPods for the viewer. This is pre production, and after editing to the point if you play the video it just will not play the audio. The 2 inserted pre-made intro and outright audio is fine but anything recorded from the Mic and Cloudlifter it will not play at all through AirPods. It does play clearly through Beats Bluetooth, Car Audio Bluetooth, Wired Sound, Through Apple IPhone X and other devices ply perfectly fine just not AirPods. I have had multiple people try around the country as well. Any help would be AMAZING!!
Equip Sm7B / CL1 Cloudlifter, / Mackie 1608 Mixer
I do it’s called the RX for CEOCENTRIC Living.. I’m at the point I need and want to move my show on my own.. it’s kind of overwhelming to be honest.
I´ve started my podcast. Mostly in Portuguese though. But we're in Australia, and we cannot wait to produce more content in English
Cool tip about filming in 4K and then cropping down to 1080 with 3 angles!
I am super interested in this part but didn't quite get the how to do it... please summarize... I can look it up if I knew how to better explain it.
@@NYC559LEXI Sry if this is a bit late. Essentially you record both participants in 4k, then you can zoom in and frame each individual without having the quality reduced
I'm learning from you all, thanks
At long last I have found a video for the best equipment. Every other video is talking about how you don’t need the best and here is a budget option. I don’t want to have to upgrade later. Thanks so much for sharing! ❤️
I’m in the process of starting a podcast, and you guys are really helping me out. Literally answering every question I have. Thanks!
A small correction. The Shure SM7b is actually a Dynamic Microphone. It does not require phantom power. The Cloud Lifter is actually a preamp which gives the mic a pre gain boost prior to running into your Zoom or Rode recording equipment.
I usually love your content, but In my opinion - 1. the mic is overkill, you can get great audio quality, 2. you can find many excellent quality mics that don't require cloudlifter. 3. Zoom H6 is a great piece, but the new zoom Podtrak costs half as much AND allows each guest to monitor with multiple headphone jacks
Just got the Zoom Podtrack... its awesome
I agree some of this is a bit overpriced
In the first 15 sec of the video he says “you can buy and never have to upgrade in the future…. I’m gonna show you one of the best setups” so that’s what the video is about it’s about future proofing and using the best not the most affordable. they do make videos about budget mics or best mic under $100 but that’s not what this video is
@@1990Co i agree
I think the video is valid if the intention is future proofing. The Shure is by far, universally considered the best podcast mic, so that’s def not a starter pack for a budget podcast but it is for longevity.
Definitely thinking about starting a podcast in the future so you guys always post valuable and timely videos. Its incredible
great video omar, and great DJ skills haha. really trust that all this gear is on the sweet spot of price - performance for creators. also appreciate your thoughts on 3 cam vs 1 cam for these types of videos, I always think simpler is better. each new camera just introduces a new degree of risk factors in any production
Recorded my first 3 podcasts and just need one more to publish a months worth. Had all the problems so far, sound dipping, video stopping but learning with each one. Thanks for this you got a sub!!
Nice! We have a WAY cheaper option for our video podcast if anyone is starting out. Samson 2QU mics into a Zoom H5. Line out cable into the camera for audio backup. Sony a6400 for recording ourselves. Works and sounds great 👍
The Moe and O Photo Show Podcast
Way cheaper is way better to start, right?
I've heard that the a6400 battery life is relatively short. Have you noticed that it can record past an hour with a full charge?
Yeah I think they give bad advice in the video basically saying go big or go home. Most people are on a budget and the set up you just mentioned is perfect for that.
What do you use to line into camera, so the camera will record the same quality audio coming from mics?
Thanks for breaking everything down in what are the things we need for podcasting! Love this video!
Great video. I love using the SM7B. Great sound. I have been running them into the RODECaster Pro for podcasting and audio recording.
Andy George Leadership nice! Do you use the cloudlifters or does the rode do well without them?
@@ThinkMediaTV No I don't use the cloudlifter. The Rode does great plugging the xlr cable directly in.
I think the Rodecaster is good BUT for a portable set up/pull down the Zoom H6 is awesome.
Thanks for the great content guys
Only just started a podcast with the first episode being uploaded yesterday. It covers films, film gear and the filmmaking process.
Also, thanks for the recommendations on gear for proper podcasting. I'm kinda stuck using a lapel mic at the moment.
Thank you for this video. You guys are great teachers. With the help of your videos think media has helped me open up a podcast studio on Palm Springs California and learn how to create various assets for others as a digital content studio owner and operator. Thank you for all your help. Keep it coming. 🙏🙌👏
This was really good information and tips!👍
A couple of things.
1. You should probably know the difference between a condenser and a dynamic mic. The Shure SM7B is a dynamic microphone that is gain hungry thus the need for a CL1.
2. Getting two RE320’s and a RØDEcaster Pro would have been much more efficient and economical in the long haul.
That sound switch blew my mind! Was that edited at all? It really cleared out the room noise. Thanks very much for this video.
Sean, we met at Vidcon 2018 and i told you that i was thinking of focusing on being the bts guy producing podcasts and shows and two years later, my fulltime job is now producing podcasts/vidcasts using kits like this! All of my productions use the same mobile kit i roll around the world and allows me to do everything as a one-man operator. SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE.
Hey bro I need help setting up my podcast. I have an iMac, yeti microphone, headphones and a powershot sx540 hs. Do I need a audio interface to actually record? I'm going crazy trying to figure this out
You guys should review the RODE Podmic. For 1/4 the price it picks up way less plosions and pops and sounds just as good as the SMB7.
I got it
@Most Average Guy Ever Why would you need to upgrade from the Podmic if it sounds just as good as the SM7B? As far as stuff being "made" to work with it...it's a dynamic XLR mic...anything that's made for it works the same with any other dynamic XLR mic.
Most Average Guy Ever I think you’re confusing these XLR mics with USB mics. There’s no software built into these mics. It’s all hardware in there. My Focusrite, Mackie, Rodecaster Pro, and my Beringer all have there own firmware because they are audio interfaces. Either the SM7B or the Podmic plug into interfaces first. The interface turns analog audio into a digital signal. Analog doesn’t have firmware.
@@fatheringautism I agree with you however I wouldn’t say _exactly_ the same. There are noticeable quality differences in the midrange, low ends, etc. That said, the Podmic is still a fantastic choice and will sound almost the same as the sm7b to most people.
Especially with a little eq and editing in post
Yes! We started our Podcast in 2016, it’s called Therapy Without a Degree Podcast! We also have the Zoom H6!
Great content! I’ve been podcasting a little over 5 years. I’ll definitely be applying these tips!
I’ve been thinking to upgrade my love stream mic from a yeti to the sm7b. Your tutorial is so detail, love that you walk is through the steps. I have the zoom h5 and love it :)
The whole thing was really helpful. That crop with 4k tip was so simple but so helpful. Thanks. All the best.
I have had my podcast for a few years now and have been through multiple microphones to find the one that fits my voice properly. I have used Dynamic mics, Condenser mics, and Ribbon mics. I have spent so much money on microphones that it got stupid. So I did a mic test to see which of the mics I had that would compliment my voice, I went through rode mics, Se mics, Shure mics AKG mics, GAP mics etc until I found the mic that suited me. I then moved on from the mic into sound card into a computer. So the final setup I settled on is the Shure SM58 mic into a DBX 266xs compressor/gate into a warm audio WA12 discrete mic pre into a Focusrite 2i2. Now I get the sound I want. But I still have all those other mics and will probably switch them out now and then.
This is super helpful!!! Thanks so much
I Just Bought the MD5 Microphone Stand by Samson for My RODE PodMic.
If the MD5 Doesn't Work Out with My Workflow, I'll Consider the RODE PSA1.
Very Informative Video Vlog.
Kadeers!!!
What a fantastic breakdown! Thank you for posting.
🤘🏼
Great value. I don't think I have come across any channel who does an in-depth technical review which would help the people making decisions. (Other than those who buy and do product reviews just for the sake of it). Thank you!
Nice information!
I’m in the process of writing my first Podcast and finishing my studio! I can’t wait to get started!
Tons of value in the video. I love it Thank you
Hi Omar,
Awesome video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us small You Tubers. Have a great day. 👍
Thank the lord my boyfriend is a music producer so he has this Shure mic! But definitely purchasing the desktop stand so I can utilize it for podcasting. Thanks as always Think Team 💙💪
Great video! I personally prefer the RE20 mic for podcasts and voiceovers, however, the SM7b is still awesome and to does look a little cooler than the RE20, but I do think the RE20 picks up some of the deeper sounds a bit better and gives more of that classic radio tone.
I think lots of people now go for the SM7b because it’s a little cheaper, looks slicker for video, and also Joe Rogan and a few other popular podcasters use it.
Anyways, it’s still a great mic, and your video was very informative!
No way a sm7b looks cooler than the re20, re20 definitely sounds better for sure too, but I love the way the electro voice looks any day..
We've got a video podcast going where we play drinking games and talk shit the whole time 😂 We're trying to get the quality on this level tho!
Great tips, appreciate how you went over equipment in detail and gave reasons why you chose those particular items. Great video!
Absolutely love this introduction!! Thank you so much!!!
I created a podcast for a business of ours and we just use WhatsApp audio and I use the WavePad sound editor to put the audio together. That's the best budget option available but I'm definitely going to upgrade to a setup similar to yours in the coming months
Love that setup! One day thinking of doing an investing Podcast, and will 100% review this video for setup tips! Particularly love the 3 angles in one shot by cropping down 4k to 1080p - good job
omar i love all your videos!!
were just starting to transfer our podcast onto youtube. we're still super low budget but working towards a better setup!
This was really helpful thanks. YES - I have a podcast called Magnificent Mothers. I interview parents about their life-stories and experiances
Thank you for sharing this content!
Great Advice, thank you for sharing!
i love this video. super informative and easy to follow
This was extraordinarily helpful and meaningful content.
best video to watch for someone seriously trying to podcast. nicely on clivity
Priceless information Thanks so much
Thank you for sharing. Yes. I started a podcast recently it’s on spirituality, lifestyle and wellness. 💕✨
Great video! Will be upgrading my audio equipment soon to this Shure set up! My podcast is about working as a Projectionist and film in general 👍🏻🎞️
Haven't started yet but it's definitely something I need to seriously consider.
I improved my videography sound because of Sean's videos. Thanks to Think Media for the advise. My channel is growing slowly with 18k views in two months.
@RJinspire let’s help each. I just subscribe to you. Hope you can do the same. Thank you
I just started a podcast called “Chasing Robbie Trails” (name still up in the air). I am known for chasing rabbit trails and they often times lead to amazing discoveries. I’m working with a cheap mic right now as budget is almost in the negative. I started it because I usually make excuses instead of just doing it. I can’t wait to upgrade my equipment. Literally everything I use needs upgraded. The sound quality of my podcast isn’t that great.
Haven’t started it yet, but will start it soon. Thanks for the info and God Bless
I was just wondering about that ! Thank you !!
@Emmanuella Alliali; let’s help each. I just subscribe to you. Hope you can do the same. Thank you

Dude you're so freaking awesome! Thank you!!!
Very insightful 👌 Thank you
I have not started but this video is what I needed to get started.
Great insight. Thank you for sharing. Tuesday is launch day for the Healthcare360 Podcast. Audio only for now, although I plan to move to video/YT within 3mo. Reviewing great that needs to be purchased at the moment which is why I loved this video.
My podcast is in Spanish and is call Los de las Orejas and is about all about Disney (Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and obviously Disney) Thanks for all this information its awesome.
Yyeeaaaahhh!!!! Thank you for sharing this!!!!! 😊😊😊

Great info. I’ve become a podcast fan since gaining an hour commute for work.
Very useful work. It is a very useful video for beginners and those who want to improve themselves. Thanks for sharing with us this nice video. Greetings... :)

Outstanding. Thanks.

@Mr Influencer let’s help each. I just subscribe to you. Hope you can do the same. Thank you
Lol! I’m actually a lash tech and have been listening to them for a while now, cool to see the setup so I can do the same in the future
I have been Teaching live classes on my RUclips channel for the past couple months. They're going much better than I expected Some contemplating upgrading my system Le pretty basic lexmark camera and yet he mic.
I'd also love to turn it into a Podcast at the same time While limiting the amount of time it takes me to process at all because my eyes are challenged by too much time on the computer.
Wondering about simpler systems that go straight into the computer so I don't have to do all the transferring of files from the camera and audio recorder.
Systems that still maintain a high level of quality.
Loved the 4k crop hack. thanks. Yes I have started my podcast, it's called Every Body Knows - Living unhindered by disease. thanks for the great content
thanks super informative. I am looking at upgrading my audio. Are these SM7b mics still good in a room that is large and echoes?
Thanks for this. The problem that i have is that when I use two different camera angles, the colors are always different and don't match. Any suggestions?
Looking forward to the other videos. would love to see your editing workflow.
Preston House coming next week!
I have the H6 but the preamps dont feed enough gain without raising the noise floor. Buying cloudlifters, or anything similar, especially with multiple mics, is a good albeit expensive solution. It also adds more stuff to keep track of. My suggestion is to go with something like the zoom F4 ,the newer F6 or the mixpre sound devices such as the mixpre3, which have more than enough clean gain and you can do away with more bits and pieces to lose and keep your setup neat and tidy.
If you're doing a video podcast should you record the audio on the H6 at 48 Khz (video standard) or 44.1 Khz (Audio-only standard)? Since the two sample rates differ, should you resample the audio from the one sample rate to the different one so both the video and audio-only distribution have the standard sample rates?
Yes I started a Podcast, this is it. It's called Truth for the people and I'm currently on all major podcast platforms (through anchor) and on Facebook and RUclips
Dude. This is the most simplified video I have yet to watch. Thank you. Question, so instead of batteries, you can use the micro USB by simply connecting to computer? Do you recommend you have batteries in place as well? Thanks!
what's the recorder for? do you not just directly feed into a computer? Does that box actually store the audio that you have to download later, or does that box just convert the cables to hook to your computer? also can you link the camera set up you use?
Loved this video, ive followed this guide and used a zoom as one angle. Currently looking to get a new mirrorless that goes over 30 min mark using my samsun s20+ currently which is convenient and shoots over 30 minutes GO SAMSUNG learned a lot we have 2 podcasts on our show currently one about tv film, gaming and wresltling called the CURIOUS CANVAS and one show named STORY OF THE MORAL about sports, music and urban culture. Great video thanks
Our youtube actually steamed from our podcast, we started the podcast on the topic of comics and such, then branched to RUclips not too long ago with action figure reviews, unboxing, and toy hunts.
Hey Sean Love your vids
ashok ashok I know where’s sean?
@@Chilupiano you know where Sean lives?
started a podcast called WE ARE SACRAMENTO its on all platforms. i so agree with the the importance of mics i went cheap at 1st and man do i regret it now we got real good pics and the difference is monumental.
Good One
If your mic in your opinnion is 10 of 10, a Blue Yeti would be 8/10 or 9/10?
Or are they completely different?
And what setup would I use for record a podcast alone using my Blue Yeti?
And what is the best for online courses? A Blue Yeti or a lavalier mic?
Thanks in advance.
The SM7B is also great for recording death metal vocals! 🤘
What headphone splitter would you recommend. My setup is very similar to yours in terms of the H6 and the headsets.
#QOTD: I haven't started a podcast yet, but I'm trying to figure out what I want to talk about. I definitely want guests on so it's not just me talking for an hour. But my biggest fear with starting a podcast is being engaging for an hour or more straight. It's the same reason I don't do streaming consistently. I prefer the comparatively short videos so that my audience doesn't have to worry about a long watch time commitment upfront.
Joe Rogan style... You can film an hour podcast but then break it up into segments afterwards. Entice people with segments, and if they want to hear more they can listen to the whole recording.
Cool video.
My podcast is in startup and learning period.
Prepping the Soul
Cool tips bro thanks
@JC FrOM yt let’s help each. I just subscribe to you. Hope you can do the same. Thank you
Hi. Great video! In my case I don't have budget to buy a Sony A7III. Could I use a Canon sl2 (200D) or iPhone 11 to record my podcast? Thank you.
Thanks for the video. What is the device going into the top of the camera?
I’m looking for a camera that would be good with podcasting and with shooting regular videos/vlogs outside of the podcast studio. Is the Sony camera talked about here an option in that scenario?
Thanks. for showing the setup. Like the portability of it. Didn't know you needed a cloudlifter with the Zoom H6.
@Sleeping Elephant; let’s help each. I just subscribe to you. Hope you can do the same. Thank you
I am already at 700 subs because of you! Thanks 👍
That's incredible keep up the good work
@@JamaalNoland thank you! I will 👍
Fantastic setup, thank you for recommending. I wonder what settings you use when recording with the SM7B / Cloudlifter / Zoom H6? I notice some hissing sound with my setup (which is the same as you :) ) and wonder if you have any tricks to avoid it? Or any post-processing tips? Thank you..
I couldn't get any levels to my zoom h6 after setting up the cloudlifter .. is there something in the menu that I missed to get the zoom to read the cloudlifter ?
♡ Love it Very Sturdy.
