INSIDE EDITION's House of Shame series is putting more home repairmen to the test - this time to see if they give a fair deal for cleaning an air vent. After hiding cameras throughout a rented house, we called local technicians to check out vents that can build up with dust, debris and mold. One repairman tried to charge $700 to clean and sanitize the air duct system, which only needed a basic cleaning. #InsideEdition

They did it years ago at some quick lube places forget the name. Basically they were all trying to upsell everyone on flushes and what not even if they didn't need it. Or they said they did something but didn't.
hugeslacker - Ain't that the truth. I have a Honda Civic hybrid, and the hybrid battery has been acting erratically for the past two years or so, only sometimes kicking in and working. So I took the car in to get it looked at, they told me that certain codes were showing up, and they were insistent that I'm going to have to either replace the battery (which would cost over $2000), or just get a new car. It's been about a year since then and the car is still running strong. I'm going to drive this thing into the ground so I plan to get another few years out of it. If I listened to them, I'd be out two Gs or this car would be in a junkyard somewhere right now.

Alex Brooks has nothing to do with cheap labor, ppl will take the easy way out and take advantage of you if you allow them especially when you don't know what you're doing, asking for or need/want. This is why i always look up when i need something done so i at least understand the basic of it and when i have anyone working at my house im right there, who cares if they feel uncomfortable its your house and you're paying for their service.

well there's an easy solution to that. Whenever you or anyone goes to a dressing room and have any doubts just place your finger on the mirror which leads to 2 possibilities -
1- If you can see the reflection of your finger in mirror |(a tiny gap) its an actual mirror.
2- if you see that your finger is touching the mirror but no reflection at all (no gap, like when you place your finger on any opaque objects) its a see through mirror.

Unfortunately for both of us too many people had too many bad experience for blind faith. If the mechanic or contractors is doing it for free of charge?(fat chance) not even for part(s), then I won't stare at them continuously.

Good on you. I had a local computer shop lying about the problems and charging me a lot for simple fixes that took no time at all then the internet came along and since then I fix the computer myself every time and the computer shop has shrunk to half its original size :-)
Once had a plumbing company try to charge me $10,000 for something that, according to 2 other plumbers and the city, DIDN'T need to be fixed.

This video is not wrong. I work for a company that does just this and it is a crime. My foreman on the job will tell me the customer only wants basic no deep cleaning for $30 so he has me just vacuum the outside of the register and if the customer is watching shove the hose in once and pull it out. he says basic should take 45 minutes... I've done this professionally at a different company and they did it right. a proper cleaning is an all day activity. At the moment I am trying to save up the money to start my business and get NADCA certified. This way there can be one more business out there that does the right thing.

I think it's because in America truth is a defence for libel so if they sue they would lose because everything shown is truthful. In addition their privacy isn't being invaded because they're in someone else's home and there is no expectation of privacy in that case.

whenever I hire someone, I make sure I intermittently watch him and let him know I've done my reasearch, I.e.,ask questions I already know the answers to. I've caught contractors too often in a lie.

i agree what he did is wrong. But at the same time the defaming part is pretty unjust. for example I volunteer at a legal insitution and almost every week someone with a child por#o case comes in and has the right not to have their identity disclosed and appropriate legal representation.
